WINS

Frannie Lorenzi, PA-C

APF Director, Frannie Lorenzi, was awarded 2024 PA of the year by the Colorado Academy of PAs (CAPA). CAPA strives to recognize the incredible work their members and community allies are doing every day in their clinical, administrative, and educational settings. Awardees undergo a process of nomination, review and selection by the Awards Committee.

Here’s what the Colorado Academy of PAs said about her!

“PA Lorenzi is highlighted for being an incredible clinician, patient advocate, and decorated clinician educator, leader, and mentor. Currently working with the Medical Oncology team at the University of Colorado Division of Hospital Medicine, PA Lorenzi shines as the director of the Advanced Practice Fellowship in Hospital Medicine. She has developed over 50 different core faculty talks, expanded the Monday education lecture series, and created the first ever APP education conference and orientation handbook. Because of her work, advanced practice providers who complete the fellowship are competent and well-rounded providers, well-equipped to deliver the highest care to their patients.”

Congratulations, Frannie! We are honored to have you lead our program with your advocacy and dedication to our team!

APF GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT

Lexie Gallant, PA-C

Lexie Gallant, PA-C, graduated from the University of Colorado Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant Program and went on to complete a fellowship in hospital medicine before joining as faculty with the Division of Hospital Medicine at the University of Colorado.

Her passions include development of physician-APP best practices, clinical excellence post-training, APP education and career development, and clinician experience and wellbeing. As one of the lead APPs in the division, Gallant has spearheaded discussions around APP promotion and mentorship, aided in recruitment of numerous APPs and leaders throughout the division, and assisted with onboarding of the rapidly expanding hospitalist program.

With a strong desire to ensure her teammates thrive in the division, she became co-director of Provider Experience where she collaborates with colleagues across the Department of Medicine on wellness-related initiatives. She frequently advocates for her fellow hospitalists through provider experience rounds, where she discusses clinical and academic work and determines areas in need of improvement.

This past March at the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Converge Conference, she was awarded a grant aimed at improving provider workspaces for our medical oncology urgent care clinic. Gallant is honored to receive the SHM Award of Excellence for Clinical Leadership for APPs.

UPCOMING APF

Shereen Arco, NP

I graduated in May 2024 from University of Colorado with an MSN as an Adult Gero Acute Care NP. I have ten years of nursing experience in the ICU, cath lab, and on the medical/oncology floor, with most my time spent in the ICU. Historically I’ve loved critical care and cardiology, and learned that I really enjoyed hospital medicine when I completed a month long clinical rotation with HMS-6 this last March. At home I have a wonderful six-year-old daughter, the cutest little nine-year-old bonus son, and an incredible partner and best friend. I’m most looking forward to becoming a thorough and competent provider, who kindly and confidently provides top notch care to my patients. I’m also overjoyed at the prospect of creating relationships with a group of similarly-minded and knowledgeable people who share my passion for caring for others.

Evan Bale, PA-C

I graduated GW PA program in DC in 2017. Prior to this, I worked in Ortho, Emergency Medicine. From this fellowship, I want to learn how to think like a hospitalist. I want to expand my differentials. I want to work with a variety of internal medicine attendings and APPs whom I can model my practice after. I have a black cat (Genie) and a corgi (Sherman) as well as a toddler (Owen). Ask me about my wife, she’s cooler than me (she’s an animal investigative reporter).

Julie Delgado, PA-C

I am a Cuban American born and raised in Miami, Florida. I just graduated from the CHA/PA program this May! Prior to PA school, I worked as a medical scribe in the ED in Fort Worth, Texas. I am looking forward to gaining experience and knowledge treating complex patients and working with the supportive hospital medicine team. I hope to come out of this fellowship experience a more confident and competent provider and be able to provide quality care to hospitalized patients.

SEPTEMBER 2024 COHORT

Jessica Gerlach, PA-C

I graduated from PA school at the University of Colorado in May 2024. With this fellowship, I am looking forward to enhancing my confidence in providing high-quality care to a diverse set of patients and improving my clinical reasoning. I am also excited to foster community within the fellowship and with the hospitalist team as a whole! I’m originally from Conifer, CO and I went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for my undergraduate where I studied public health. In my free time I like to read, hike, ski, camp, and watch UNC basketball!

Jordan McKain-Miller, PA-C

I graduated from Wake Forest University School of Medicine Department of PA Studies, C/O 2024. I hope to expand my clinical skills and knowledge by gaining exposure to a diverse range of pathologies, practice styles, and various aspects of Hospital Medicine, ultimately aspiring to practice at the peak of my professional scope. I am a born and raised Denverite who loves reading historical fiction, watching movies and trying new foods, so I love giving/receiving recommendations! I have a Golden Retriever named Winifred that I love showing pictures of and weather permitting on the weekends I can be found walking around a lake, on a trail, or in my neighborhood with my fiancé, Loc.

Morgan Orand PA-C

I am originally from the Denver area and will be returning there from Grand Junction where I graduated from Colorado Mesa University in May. I am excited for the opportunity to develop my medical decision-making skills, to learn how to treat medically complex patients, and hope to leave the fellowship feeling confident and competent in my abilities as a hospital medicine provider. Outside of work, I love traveling and all things outdoors - hiking, skiing, paddleboarding. I am also a huge Kansas Chiefs fan, grew up playing volleyball, and love sports.
