Our Division submitted 31 posters total to two of our favorite national conferences, Society of Hospital Medicine and Society of General Internal Medicine. These posters covered topics of everything from parental leave in hospital medicine to hospital medicine provider perspectives on inter-hospital transfers.
We had 15 total oral presentations from our CUDHM members. These presentations included topics like Impact of a Near Peer Coaching Program for New Hospitalist Faculty at a Large and Growing Academic Medical Center, and Dark Side of the Moon: Combating the Health Effects of Night Shift.
We also had the opportunity to lead 15 workshops and special interest groups. These topics included everything from Fundamentals of Design Thinking for General Internists: Applying a Human-Centered Lens to Care Redesign to Updates in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Literature for Hospitalists.
Our division had research projects highlighted in the research plenaries at SHM. The first project was on Grittywork: An Evidence-Based Approach to Building Optimal Hospitalist Staffing Models. The second was on A Randomized Controlled Trial of Physician Rounding Styles.
Team Award in Quality Improvement HOMERuN: Several of our CUDHM team members were able to celebrate with the HOMERuN Research Network on receiving the Team Award. Dr. Andrew Auerbach, founder and leader of HOMERuN, accepted the award on behalf of the large network of colleagues.
SGIM annually presents awards and grants, which are among the highest honors bestowed by the Society. Members may nominate themselves or colleagues who have made significant contributions to the profession over the past year. Awards and grants presented in 2023 recognize achievements and contributions during 2022.
The SGIM Founders’ Grant provides $10,000 in support to junior investigators who exhibit significant potential for a successful research career and who needs a “jump start” to establish a strong research funding base.
This award recognizes the extraordinary commitment that many members make when they choose to advocate on behalf of SGIM. It is named for the late David R. Calkins, MD, because of his tireless advocacy in health policy issues on behalf of SGIM since its inception.
The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) hosted their annual SHM Converge conference in Austin, Texas where hospitalists all over the country traveled to hear from and connect with fellow colleague experts. We had 15 faculty members attend the conference. Our team maintained a strong research presence and shared several different publications and projects they had been working hard on. Our faculty also had the opportunity to run several workshops and presentations for fellow hospitalists.
The Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) hosted their annual conference in Aurora, Colorado – our hometown! We had about 20 faculty members attend the conference. We had a large presence during the poster portion of the conference where many of our faculty members were able to share the projects they have been patiently working on over the past few months/years. One of the prominent initiatives a few of our faculty focused on was a booth/engagement area for attendees to learn about the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. Individuals could learn about opportunities for community improvement/engagement.
