Typology Analysis

City Regeneration 1 X1 Maintain Street Life in Old Shanghai Time 12/2015 Module Small and Medium Scale Buildings Topic City Regeneration Regeneration; Migrants; Street life

In this part I found that there are a number of types of buildings in the site. Many of them are transformed from other types. The photos below show that residents are willing to extend their space into streets. This will make the street more and more crowded

Case Study - Kowloon Walled City

Diagram

Design Statement

Use the street as the rule to make the building grow

The concept comes from the observation of the situation that residents are willing to expend their space. One big reason of this is lack of space. They always expend their space horizontally. From the site analysis and Shanghai history analysis the situation is emergency that with the speedy development of the city the street life is reducing. After studying case study the concept comes out that to grow the building alone the three- dimensions street, try to keep or recall this kind of street life.

The phenomenon in the site that residents try to extend the space remind me a case-- Kowloon Walled City. This is a case that residents grow their building or space by themselves. They mix use the functions. The city was more like a villege in 1898. With the flow of time, residents grow the building due to their need. After this the concept comes out.

Take the site

Fold the street in three dimensions

After construction of main building, a facade with frosted glass is added. The reason for it is that the building expresses a new type of community, zoon to ensure the privacy of it and at the same time can give residents the feeling of indoor and outdoor.

City Office

Explore Possibility of New Type Office Time 06/2014 Module Small Urban Buildings Topic Combine Office with Urban Public Space Make Office Become a Part of Urban Life

Shaojiemei Health Products Limited Company

Shitaili Tool Limited Company

From site analysis and public space analysis, it can be seen that the site is on the subway junction which is fit for building office. Also from public space analysis it can be seen that the site is not a place which is convenient to public space. For that the company is a product design company, how to attrct customs and to promote the product is a vital question. After consideration that idea comes out that to combine company with public space. The ground floor and floor minus one is totally open to the public. People can communicate here. Also one the minus one floor there is a cafe and an experience center. People can have knowledge on the product of the company.

Location: Barcelona, Spain Project Architects: Daniel Ibáñez, Rodrigo Rubio Collaborator: FAB LAB NETWORK Client: IAAC, ENDESA B3

Project Year: 2014

This project wass done by MARGEN-LAB. It named ENDESA WORLD FAB CONDENSER. It is a thermodynamic prototype, a bioclimatic dome which installed in Barcelona. The concept of it is using parametric to make the apparatus fit the site in aspect of

climate.

The point that the case inspired us most was that it was: 1. It designed on a global scale that all the figures of sites in the world can be input into the parmetric process and then output a thermodynamic prototype. 2. It used vernacular material—timber, which is easy to gain in Barcelona. B2. Input the number of foundations

B5. Generate the cover of roof

Concept Derived from the case study, our team came out with the concept that we wanted to design a pavilion which can fit every site in the world. Clients just need to input the site shape and where the foundations could be as well as the height of pavilion, the procedure will output a pavilion

At the beginning, we needed to define an element to form the pavilion, just like the triangle element in the case. We used column

After thinking the problem came that if the angle between one column and ground is too small, the column cannot be held any more.

1.

Judge what angle is smaller than set smallest angle, and delete the long columns.

2.

Judge which roof point only remains columns less than 3 and delete the point.

C5

C4

C4. Judge the column which is longer than certain length and delete it We try to transform the length to simple parameter to input. SinX of the angle is a good parameter. 30째is seem as the smallest angle in this case (the angle can be adjusted). Then take the highest roof point, take the height to formula: Height/Length=Sin30째 Diagram After this, the biggest length of column can be figured out. Next step is to judge whether the length of column is larger than this number, if yes, delete the column. C5. Judge the roof point which has columns which are less than 3 and delete it After delete some columns, the situation may appear that some roof points only have one or two columns that it cannot be supported. So in this step one judgment will be done to judge whether one roof point has less than three columns, if so, delete this roof point.
