Individual Sport Programmes The Complete Guide

Introduction Culford sports programmes provide a pathway to develop pupils at Foundation, Development, Performance and Elite levels through individual and small group lessons. Bespoke sessions supplement major sports and foster the key sporting attributes of confidence, resilience, and selfawareness as athletes also develop the sound technical and tactical knowledge in their chosen sport.

Our goal is to produce dynamic, innovative, flexible and resilient sportsmen and women. We pride ourselves on taking an holistic approach to each individual. To this end, academic life is integrated with each pupil’s sporting aspirations. Culford’s unique approach has attracted the attention of American universities and a number of pupils in recent years have been awarded sports scholarships for study in the USA.

Strength and Conditioning Strength and Conditioning support is available to all pupils through our team of coaches, led by James Earle. James is an accredited Strength and Conditioning coach with five years of experience working with young athletes and professionals, including designing and implementing Olympic level programmes. Facilities include a fitness suite and a specific performance based Strength and Conditioning gym.

Culford Strength and Conditioning covers the following: Pilates A system of exercises designed to improve physical strength, flexibility and posture to enhance physical coordination and mental awareness.

Speed, agility and quickness Improving linear, lateral and game-based speed which is crucial for all sportsmen and women who want to improve their explosive movement capabilities and awareness whilst moving.

Aerobic conditioning and technical running development An aerobic session focuses on building running technique and stamina through a combination of different exercises including running, circuit training and small sided games.

Strength, power and athletic development These sessions are gym-based, using appropriate apparatus and weights to build strength and power.

Physical screening The screening and muscular conditioning assessment is seeking to identify anatomical areas of concern. The aim of the process is to direct subsequent training and organise strategies to minimise injury risk.

Applying for a place on a specific programme Please contact the Head of Sport of your choice, who will discuss the programme options in more detail and will give your child a practical assessment in their chosen sport if required. Once this process of testing is completed, we will assign your child to an appropriate programme. These programmes will be billed in arrears at the end of each term. To account for the fact that your child may be absent owing to tournaments, school trips, exams or ill health, fees are calculated on the basis of 30 weeks of a 34-week school year. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis, with priority given to sports scholars. A pupil can opt out of a programme at any point but billing will be issued for the remainder of the term.
