Shuey Stock Farms 2016 Bull Sale

1

Welcome to Creston, Iowa and the 4th annual Shuey Stock Farms annual production sale. We are thrilled to be hosting our 4th annual bull sale at the Creston Livestock Auction this year. Each year has presented a new challenge and opportunity for us to promote our cattle, and we cannot be more excited about what we have to offer on this sale. We believe wholeheartedly in the direction that this sale and our breeding program has gone over the past 4 years. The combination of phenotypic and genotypic excellence coupled with real world practicality that these individuals offer is truly some of the best yet. These traits such as body volume, structure, soundness, udder quality, EPD’s and disposition lead to efficiency. In our business of both the purebred and commercial cattle we know that none of this would have existed without a strong cow family. That is how the females within our purebred herd were selected and raised and how we will continue to push this program forward. Please note that the EPD’s provided in this catalog are based off of statistical estimates of crossing the individuals sire and dam. Paperwork was submitted to National Red Angus Association on each of these bulls 4 months ago for registration, and this has yet to be completed. We fully apologize for this inconvenience of the association not providing the registration numbers and most up-to-date data in a timely manner. A complete supplement sheet with each bull’s registration number and official EPD’s will be provided by sale time. We expect that many of these bulls will see a significant increase in their genomic value once all imputed figures are included in the calculations. Please contact us closer to sale time for that information. The individuals before you are the very best we have to offer. As always, they are available for viewing at any time. We take great pride in our herd and will be happy to show you every aspect of it. The bulls are currently being developed at our ranch in Tecumseh, NE. Three days prior to the sale they will be transported to the Creston Livestock Auction. Contact any of our family members for more information on the individuals or directions to viewing locations. All bulls will be fertility tested the day before the sale. Please contact Creston Livestock Auction for online or phone bidding. Thank you once again for viewing this offering. We think it is one of the best groups of cattle we have ever had the pleasure of raising. A very long necked smooth shouldered bull. This cow family has been working for us for over 20 years in our operation. His sire is PIE One of a Kind. Hybrid Bulls Sired by the great Buffalo Creek Final Answer This past year we selected our top commercial cows from a group of 300 and AI them all to this bull as a way to incorporate new genetics into our herd, and produce great hybrid bulls such as these. The dams are all ½ Red Angus and ½ Simmental. They would all be ¾ Red Angus, ¼ Simmental. All bulls were born in January and February and were under 70 lbs. They are all moderate framed easy keeping bulls that should work well for both heifers and cows. All are registered with the American Red Angus Association.

Commercial Heifers Once again we will be offering up 50 head of commercial open replacements from the heart of our crossbred herd. These heifers represent the best and most uniform set of females we have ever had. They are approximately ¾ Red Angus and ¼ Simmental. A few will have a small amount of South Devon breeding as well. These females represent some of the best commercial Red Angus genetics available. In the past 7 years now our commercial cow herd made up of these genetics has won the National Gridmaster Award 3 times. Our 2014 steer calf crop performed remarkably well last year. As a group they graded over 90% Choice & Prime with less than 4% Yield Grade 4’s at 13 months of age. This data was good enough for the National Red Angus Gridmaster Award qualifications. To date we are the only Red Angus breeder in North America to not only show a National Champion Female but also win a Gridmaster award for carcass merit from the Red Angus Association. Something we have done twice now. Finding and breeding these genetics is not easy. Finding and breeding these genetics in an eye appealing package is even harder. In 2015 we have approximately 150 spring female commercial calves. The youngest (May calves) were sold in November. Since October 80 of these females have been “backgrounding” at our farm in Tecumseh, NE. We selected 30 of these females for our own replacements and the rest make up this offering. They are on a complete vaccination program and will be ready to breed immediately following the sale.

Crimson Red 44

Daisey, Dam

Sheena, Full Sister

REG #1737061

Pictured as a yearling weighing 1550 lbs

Pedigree, performance, and one sweet look. These are the 3 traits we believe any bull worth breeding to should possess. We believe Crimson Red is one of the best bulls to combine these traits we have ever raised. First is pedigree. Crimson Red is truly a face card of the top cow family in our program. His dam is one of the most recognized donors in the breed following both her show career and production record. His sire is the breed changing, exclusive, and rare $76,000 PIE Code Red. And his full sister, Sheena, is one of the top females in the Red Angus breed through both her show and production record as well. Crimson Red’s performance traits are nearly just as good. His low BW makes him an awesome heifer bull prospect, but that is coupled with a 1550 lb yearling weight. He has near breed leading traits in almost every category. And last is phenotype. His show record so far includes Division Championships at the Iowa State Fair Open Show and the 2015 National Red Angus Show, Supreme Champion Bull at the Iowa State Jr. Show, and 2015 Reserve National Champion Bull in the Jr Show. He was most recently Division Champion at the 2016 Ft. Worth Regional National Red Angus Show. He is super powerful, wide topped, and big boned all in that very dark cherry red package. We have very high hopes for this bull coming forward and hope with these packages others join in on this great sire prospect.
