Spirits of Place - old tunes, new words, new music? November/December workshops with Slumgothic Teenage Art Project: x-church, Ashcroft Road, Gainsborough, DN21 3PT

For information on joining the project please contact Marcus Hammond on 07908 771107 or see www.slumgothic.co.uk The project engages young people with apparently long lost indigenous music. Most of the music that is important to young people presents itself as new when in fact most of it, arguably all of it, isn’t new at all. Folk singer Joseph Taylor was born in Saxby-All-Saints, Lincolnshire in 1833. His music embodied a tradition that delivered some great tunes. What will young people in Gainsborough do with tunes that they appear to have lost all connection with? The project will generate words, music and a short film.
