You are very welcome to the International Pan Celtic Festival, which visits Derry for the first time in its fourty-three year history in 2014.

Is ceiliúradh é an Fhéile Pan Cheilteach de na nascanna cultúrtha idir náisiúin na hÉireann, na hAlban, Cymru, Breiz, Kernow agus Mannin.

The Pan Celtic Festival is a celebration of the cultural links between the nations of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall and the Isle of Man.

Tá lúcháir orainn cuairteoirí ar an Fhéile ós na tíortha Ceilteacha seo a óstáil agus tá muid ag súil go mór le taispeántais bheoga agus bhríomhara a dtraidisiún féin.

We are delighted to host a number of visitors to the festival from each of these Celtic countries, and look forward to the vibrant and colourful displays of their own traditions that they will bring with them.

I ndiaidh bliain de cheiliúrtha cultúrtha, aithnítear Doire anois mar chathair féilte agus sin ar intinn againn tá clár imeachtaí atá chomh héagsúil sin gur chóir go mbainfeadh gach duine sult as.

Following a year of cultural celebration, Derry has become widely recognised as a city of festivals, and with this in mind we have put together a programme of events so diverse that there should be something for everyone.

Is é an téama maidir lenár n-imeachtaí uilig ná ceiliúradh an Cheilteachais agus tá súil againn go bhfaigheann gach duine deis beagán a fhoghlaim faoi na nascanna uathúla idir na tíortha Ceilteacha, blas na dteangacha difriúla ina measc.

The theme running through all of our events is one of Celtic celebration, and we hope that everyone gets a chance to learn a little more about the unique connections between the Celtic countries, including a taste of the different languages.

Bíodh seachtain iontach agat de shiamsaíocht Cheilteach agus beidh muid ag súil lena dhéanamh arís in 2015.

Enjoy a great week of Celtic entertainment and we look forward to doing it all again in 2015.

Déanta sa bhreogán bánta cruthaíochta atá i nDámh Chruinne Éireann Rince agus Ceol i Luimneach, tá aibíocht Cheoil den chéad scoth ag an cúigear seo anois. Tá clú anois orthu mar gheall ar an ráchairt a bhíonn orthu i measc eolaithe an cheoil traidisiúnta agus fuair siad ardmholadh don dara halbam s’acu ‘Transformed’ a tháirg Dónal Lunny.

Más ceol tíre Briotánach atá uait, ní féidir an mórghrúpa clúiteach seo a shárú. Bunaíodh an grúpa Barzaz i 1988 le Yann-Fañch Kemener (amhránaí), Jean-Michel Veillon (an fheadóg mhór) Gilles le Bigot (giotár), Alain Genty (dordghiotár gan stiallóg) agus David Hopkins (cnagadh).

Luíonn a sainfhuaim féin in ardchaighdeán a bpíosaí ceoil féin a sheinm fite fuaite le foinn thraidisiúnta iomráiteacha, rud a dhéanann gach seit spraíúil agus uathúil. Cuir ort do bhróga damhsa agus bí réidh d’oíche lán de cheol agus spraoi le Goitse! Forged in the white-hot creative crucible of Limerick’s Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, this quintet have graduated with a musical maturity worthy of the greatest. They have made a name for themselves as one of the most sought after bands amongst connoisseurs of Irish traditional music, having won feverish critical plaudits for their Dónal Lunny-produced second album Transformed. Their distinctive sound lies in the quality of their own compositions interspersed with well-known traditional tunes, which make each set entertaining and unique. Lace up your dancing shoes and get ready for a night of wonderful much and fast-paced fun with Goitse!

Faoi threoir cheol súgartha fliúit Jean-Michel Veillon agus guth cumhachtach Yann-Fañch Kemener, tá seantaithí acu i gcuaird dhomhanda an cheoil. I ndiaidh dóibh scaradh sa bhliain 1995, tá lúcháir orthu teacht go hÉireann don chéad uair chun seó a dhéanamh mar chuid de chamchuairt athaontaithe s’acu. The unique sound of Breton folk music is well manifested in this legendary supergroup. Formed in 1988, Barzaz comprises Yann-Fañch Kemener (vocals), Jean-Michel Veillon (wooden flutes), Gilles Le Bigot (guitars), Alain Genty (fretless bass guitar) and David Hopkins (percussion). Led by the magical interplay of Jean-Michel Veillon’s flute and Yann-Fañch Kemener’s vocals, these musicians are veterans of the world music circuit. Following their split in 1995, they are delighted to perform their first ever Irish gig as part of their reunion tour.

AN CEOLCHOIRM MHÓR: CAPERCAILLIE THE BIG CONCERT: CAPERCAILLE Spiegeltent, Guildhall Square | 7:30PM | £10.00

Capercaillie Le linn a ngníomhréime, spreagadh Capercaillie ag dhá mhórthréith. Is é an chéad cheann ná deaslámhacht iontach na seinnteoirí eagsúla fiddle, feadóige, fliúit agus píob a thaibhigh leo thar na blianta, faoi stiúr ag cairdín agus méarchláir bhunaitheoir an ghrúpa, Donald Shaw. Tréith eile an ghrúpa ná glór dosháraithe Karen Matheson a ndúirt Sean Connery fuithi go raibh ‘throat that is surely touched by God’aici.

Throughout their career Capercaillie have drawn on two great strengths to inspire them. The first of these is the astonishing musical dexterity of the various fiddle, whistle, flute and pipe who have performed with them over the years, lead by the accordion and keyboards of band founder Donald Shaw. The other foundation of the band has been the peerless voice of co-founder Karen Matheson, described by Sean Connery as having “a throat that is surely touched by God”.

Is iomaí bua a bhain an grúpa seo amach agus tá milliún albam díolta acu ar fud an domhain. Ina measc siúd trí chinn airgead agus albam óir sa RA, an chéad singil Barr 40 as Gaeilge, ag scríobh an cheoil don scannán Hollywood “Rob Roy”agus ag aistriú ann, chomh maith le seinm i níos mó ná tríocha tír, an Iaráic, an Mhacadóin agus an tSúdáin ina measc.

There have been many milestones for a band who have sold over a million albums world wide. These include three silver and one gold album in the UK, the first Gaelic Top 40 single, writing the music for, and appearing in the Hollywood movie “Rob Roy”, and performing in over thirty countries including Iraq, Macedonia and the Sudan.

Marcálann an t-albam is déanaí acu, At The Heart Of It All, tríocha bliain ag ceol agus thosaigh siad a mbliain chuimhneacháin le ceolchoirm ag Celtic Connections 2014 a díoladh amach..

Their latest album, At The Heart Of It All, marks thirty years making music, and they kicked off their anniversary year with a sell-out concert at Celtic Connections 2014.

Maranna McCloskey Rugadh Maranna McCloskey as Dún Geimhin le clann le fréamhacha doimhne sa traidisiún. Tarraingíonn a glór teolaí altsopráin ó chúlra amhránaíochta traidisiúnta agus a tionchair féin ceoil mar Mary Black agus Dolores Keane. Ceoltóir rialta ag na fleadhanna le linn a luath-óige, chuaigh sí ar chuaird ceol tire trasna na hEorpa mar chuid d’Óige agus in 2008 sheol sí a chéad albam At Last. Maranna McCloskey from Dungiven was born into a family with deep roots in the tradition. Her warm alto-soprano voice draws from both a background of traditional singing and her own musical influences such as Mary Black and Dolores Keane. A regular at the fleadhanna throughout her childhood, she toured the folk festival circuit across Europe as part of Oíge, and in 2008 launched her debut album ‘At Last’.

THE GATHERING DRUM

SEISIÚN NA TEAGHLAIGH FAMILY SESSION + CÉILÍ

the Spiegeltent | 11:30AM - 1PM | £2.00

the Spiegeltent | 1PM | SAOR IN AISCE (free)

Tá ceardlanna ‘The Gathering Drum’ dírithe ar ligean do dhaoine a rithim féin a aimsiú agus iad ag baint sult as imeachtaí rithime. Ní insíonn muid do dhaoine cad le sheinm nó cén uair le sheinm. Ciallaíonn éascú “le déanamh níos fusa”. Tugann ‘The Gathering Drum’ seans do dhaoine a muinín a thógáil agus muid ag cuidiú leo an áit atá á lorg acu a bhaint amach. Cuidíonn muid le daoine tús a chur leis agus ní chuireann muid isteach ach nuair atá an grúpa ag iarraidh dul i dtreo eile. Is rud iontach é nuair atá an t-éascaitheoir ábalta cuidiú le grúpa teacht ar a gcuid rithime agus fuaim féin, seachas iad a chur i dtreo ar leith. Oiriúnach do gach aois.

Cuirtear fáilte roimh pháistí agus dhaoine fásta de gach aois teacht chuig ár seisiún agus céilí ar an lá deireanach den Fhéile. Cuirtear fáilte roimh theaghlaigh agus cairde teacht agus páirt a ghlacadh sa cheiliúradh iontach seo dár gcultúr Ceilteach. Críochnóidh an lá le céilí atá fóirsteanach do thosaitheoirí san iarnóin. Beidh tae agus sólaistí ar fáil fosta.

The Gathering Drum workshops are about letting people find their own rhythms and fun through rhythm events. We don’t tell people what to play and when to play it. Facilitation means “to make easy”. The Gathering Drum lets people build their confidence, helping them along the way to get to where they want to go. We get people going, and only intervene when the group wants or needs to go another direction. It is a liberating event when a facilitator guides a group to find their own rhythms and grooves, rather than pulling them in a certain direction. Suitable for all ages.

Children and adults of all ages are invited to attend our session and céilí for the final day of the festival. Family and friends are welcome to come along and spectate in this great celebration of our Celtic culture. Tea and refreshments will also be available, and the afternoon will finish with a céilí suitable for beginners.
