† Please stand as you are able
PRELUDE GREETING INTROIT
Schaffe in mir, Gott, ein rein Herz, Op. 29, No. 2 — Johannes Brahms Create in me, O God, a pure heart. And grant anew, a right spirit within me.
(Psalm 51: 10-12)
†OPENING PRAYER
Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us, that we may continually be given to good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
†HYMN OF PROCESSION
#88 Maker, in Whom We Live — DIADEMATA
†AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare:
We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children’s good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen.
†GLORIA PATRI
#71 Glory Be to the Father — GREATOREX
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
(Children, kindergartners through third grade, are invited to exit the Sanctuary for Children’s Worship. Children will return to reserved pews in the Sanctuary at the close of worship.)
WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED
Thank you for joining us in worship today.
SERMON NOTES
CANTICLE
Gentle Words — arr. Wayland Rogers
What the dew is to the flowers, gentle words are to the soul, and a blessing to the giver and so dear to the receiver, we should never withhold. While links of love are broken by words that are unkind, then O, thou gentle spirit, my constant guardian be. “Do to others” be my motto “as I’d have them do to me.”
SCRIPTURE — Proverbs 3:29-30
This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.
SERMON
OFFERTORY
WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT
Prayer of St. Francis — William Beckstrand
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love. Where there is injury, let us sow pardon. Where there is discord, let us sow union. Where there is doubt, let us sow faith. Where there is despair, let us sow hope. Where there is darkness, let us sow light. Where there is sadness, let us sow joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned. And it is in dying, that we are born to life—eternal life.
†DOXOLOGY
#95 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow — OLD 100th Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below; praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
†PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
All things come from you, O God, and with gratitude we return to you what is yours. You created all that is, and with love formed us in your image. When our love failed, your love remained steadfast. You gave your only Son Jesus Christ to be our Savior. All that we are, and all that we have, is a trust from you. And so, in gratitude for all your gifts, we offer you ourselves, and all that we have, in union with Christ’s offering for us. By your Holy Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
WE GO AS GOD’S PEOPLE INTO THE WORLD
†HYMN #427 Where Cross the Crowded Ways of Life — GERMANY

CONFIRMATION 2024
Confirmation by definition is faith formation and one part of a lifelong journey. Our hope is that through our Confirmation ministry you will be given the opportunity, tools, love, support, and inspiration you will need to build your faith on a firm foundation (Matthew 7:24-25).
Starting on January 3, 2024 (through May 19), we invite all 7th graders to join us as we meet each Wednesday night from 6:00 pm—7:30 pm to learn about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the spiritual life, and how they form us and help us to change the way we live our lives. You will not go through this class alone; you will pick a Shepherd (a faithful adult spiritual companion from our church) who will walk beside you all throughout your Confirmation. There will be several field trips, two retreats, lots of meals, and space to ask all your questions to help us grow. The hope is that through these experiences, you will come to encounter Jesus in a very tangible way. You can register for Confirmation in Realm. For questions, contact Tammy Pollock.
