THE SERVICE OF CONFIRMATION
INTRODUCTION OF SERVICE
Brothers and sisters in Christ: Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ's holy church. We are incorporated into God's mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God's gift, offered to us without price.
Through confirmation, and through the reaffirmation of our faith, we renew the covenant declared at our baptism, acknowledge what God is doing for us, and affirm our commitment to Christ's holy church.
PRESENTATION OF CANDIDATES
RENUNCIATION OF SIN & PROFESSION OF FAITH
On behalf of the whole church, I ask you: Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin?
I do.
Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?
I do
Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations and races?
I do.
According to the grace given you, will you remain faithful members of Christ's holy church and serve as Christ's representatives in the world?
I will.
2
WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED
To the sponsors
Will you who sponsor these candidates support and encourage them in their Christian life?
I will.
To the congregation
To the congregation and candidates
Do you, as Christ's body, the church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ?
We do.
Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include these persons now before you in your care?
With God's help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround these persons with a community of love and forgiveness, that they may grow in the trust of God, and be found faithful in their service to others. We will pray for them, that they may be true disciples who walk in the way that leads to life.
Let us join together in professing the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.
Do you believe in God the Father?
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ?
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, (Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead.)
Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, (the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.)

Members of the household of God, I commend these persons to your love and care. Do all in your power to increase their faith, confirm their hope, and perfect them in love.
We give thanks for all that God has already given you and we welcome you in Christian love. As members together with you in the body of Christ and in this congregation of The United Methodist Church, we renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness, that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.
The God of all grace, who has called us to eternal glory in Christ, establish you and strengthen you by the power of the Holy Spirit, that you may live in grace and peace.

YOU CAN HELP FEED HUNGRY STUDENTS IN OUR AREA
Did you know that we partner with Brunson Elementary, Wiley Middle School, Reynolds High School and the Winston Salem Street School to help fill their food pantries? At Reynolds and the Winston Salem Street School, we help stock food pantries where students can “go shopping” for food at school to take home. At Brunson and Wiley, we partner with them through the BackPack Program. The school administration identifies students in need of food and enrolls them in the program. We purchase “backpacks” through Second Harvest Food Bank – each one has two breakfasts and two lunches. If you’d like to partner with us in helping these students gain access to food over the weekends, you can do so through prayer, financial support, and volunteering to transport backpacks to schools! Contact Kate May (kmay@centenary-ws.org/ext 1331) and she can tell you about all the ways we need your help.
KITCHEN SUNDAY SCHOOL BEGINS JUNE 2 FOR K-5TH GRADERS!
This summer our Sunday school forces will combine for a delicious cooking and learning experience for kindergarteners through fifth graders. Throughout the summer our kids will gather in the Community Room at 10 am and then head into the East Building kitchen to experience a Bible story through food! Rev. Kate May will be leading our lessons but each week we will have a grown up helper to make sure we all have a yummy time! Want to join us? Reach out to Kate May (kmay@centenary-ws.org/ext. 1331).
BE A PART OF THE SUNDAY SCHOOL TEAM!
Do you love spending time with elementary aged kids? Are you filled with joy by their questions and observations about the world? Are you energized by sharing God’s love with kids? Then you should consider being a part of our Sunday School team! This team is made up of amazing folks just like you who commit for one school year to serve as a small group or large group leader. Using provided lesson plans large group leaders share a Bible story in an engaging and hands on way with a mixed group of kids ages 1st-5th grade. Small group leaders build relationships with one age group of kids while facilitating activities that build on the large group learning. If you are interested or have questions, reach out to Kate May (kmay@ centenary-ws.org/ ext. 1331)

STEPHEN MINISTRY
I haven’t been the same since my mother passed away 2 years ago. I’m exhausted, irritable, and often withdrawn. I’ve been so busy taking care of my surviving father and my own family that I didn’t allow myself time to grieve her death. It’s time now, and I’m receiving much needed help from my Stephen Minister.
If you or someone you know could benefit from Stephen Ministry, please contact Deena Morgan (336-692-2314) or Wilba Brady (336-723-6236).

Join us for our series in Youth Sunday school, “Faith Face to Face”. This new series is all about exploring your questions of faith. We asked you what your questions are; you told us what you’re wondering about, and together we will find the answers! In 1 Corinthians 14: 33 we are reminded that “God is a God not of confusion, but of peace”. We can’t wait for you to be part of this great opportunity to take one question of faith each week and seek God’s wisdom so that we might more grow in the likeness and love of Jesus.
