WELCOME TO WORSHIP

THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED SCRIPTURE — John 1:1-14 (pew Bible New Testament page 111) This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God. SERMON — “It’s His Birthday. We Got the Gift” HYMNS

WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT OFFERTORY Ring the Bells — Harry Bollback Ring the bells, ring the bells, let the whole world know, Christ was born in Bethlehem many years ago. Born to die that man might live, came to earth new life to give, Born of Mary, born so low, many years ago. God the Father gave His Son, gave His own beloved One, To the wicked sinful earth, to bring mankind His love, new birth.

PRELUDE GREETING CALL TO WORSHIP O God our Father, you have brought us again to the glad season when we celebrate the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Grant that his Spirit may be born anew in our hearts this day and that we may joyfully welcome him to reign over us. Open our ears that we may hear again the angelic chorus of old. Open our lips that we, too, may sing with uplifted hearts. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, goodwill toward all; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

HYMN OF PROCESSION #245 The First Noel — THE FIRST NOEL

Ring the bells, ring the bells, Let the whole world know Christ the Savior lives today as He did so long ago! Ring the bells, ring the bells, what a glorious morn! Men and angels worship Him, singing, Christ is born! Born to die on Calvary, born to set His people free, God Himself in human form, tell it! Christ is born. He has left His royal throne, He has come to claim His own, Christ the Lord has come to earth, go spread the news of Jesus’ birth.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

GLORIA PATRI #71 Glory Be to the Father — GREATOREX Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

DOXOLOGY #221 In the Bleak Midwinter — CRANHAM What can I give him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; if I were a Wise Man, I would do my part, yet what I can I give him: give my heart.

PRAYER OF DEDICATION Almighty God, giver of every good and perfect gift, teach us to render to you all that we have and all that we are, that we may praise you, not with our lips only, but with our whole lives, turning the duties, the sorrows, and the joys of all our days into a living sacrifice to you; through our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

ADULT FORMATION NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS PARENT FOUNDATIONS ROOM 310 Raising young children is a challenge. From teething and tantrums to homework and soccer practice, it can be hard to find a free minute to spend time with God. We are parents of younger children who participate in member-led studies of books and topics to enhance our faith as parents. Conversation is geared so that those who have not been able to read the material can participate. We also discuss ideas, strategies, and support one another as we hope to raise our children with a strong Christian foundation. On January 8, we begin a new study on “Undistracted” by Bob Goff. We would love to have you join us! For more information about this class, please contact Katie Allen (kpallen846@ gmail.com).

If you are interested in helping, save the date: Wednesday, December 28, 8:30am. We will meet on Fifth Street in front of the sanctuary. Each year, we load the plants onto the church bus and proceed to Chrystal Towers, Sunrise Towers, and Healy Towers in order to disperse these gifts to our neighbors. You are welcomed to ride along for the gift giving. To RSVP or if you have any questions, call or text Frank Hassell at 336-456-4399.

The seminar will run on Wednesdays, January 11- March 22, except February 22 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. Register your interest by January 8.
