Sleep — Ivor Gurney Come, Sleep, and with thy sweet deceiving lock me in delight awhile; let some pleasing dream beguile all my fancies; that from thence I may feel an influence all my powers of care bereaving! Though but a shadow, but a sliding, let me know some little joy! We that suffer long annoy are contented with a thought through an idle fancy wrought: O let my joys have some abiding. How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and hear me, O LORD my God; enlighten my eyes, Lest I sleep the sleep of death; lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed against him”; Lest those who trouble me rejoice when I am moved. But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me. #545 The Church's One Foundation — AURELIA
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
After each prayer, the leader may conclude: Lord, in your mercy. All may respond: Hear our prayer.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED CANTICLE
Bound by a Thread — Gaelynn Lea Bound, bound, bound by a thread going down, down through the ages. You could’ve stayed but you came here instead to fill my life’s empty pages. And I, I do believe we’ll see the fruits of our labor. Maybe not now, maybe lifetimes ahead, if only love would be our guide.
SCRIPTURE Matthew 10:40-42
“Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.” (NIV) This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.
SERMON
WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT INVITATION TO OFFERING OFFERTORY
Here's One — Spiritual, arr. William Grant Still Talk about a child that do love Jesus, here's one. In old Satan's snares I once was fallin' but I heard the voice of my Lord callin.' Talk about a child that's been converted, here's one. Ever since I learned the gospel story I've been walkin' up the path to glory.
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Almighty and forgiving God, we your unworthy servants give you most humble thanks for all your goodness and loving kindness, to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. Give us such an awareness of your mercies, that our hearts may be thankful, and that we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
