Trumpet Tune in A Major — David N. Johnson

GREETING INTROIT

Ride On, King Jesus — arr. Hall Johnson Ride on, King Jesus! No man can-a hinder me. For He is King of kings, He is Lord of lords, Jesus Christ, the first and last, no man works like Him. King Jesus rides a milk-white horse, the river of Jordan He did cross, no man works like Him. King Jesus rides in the middle of the air, He calls the saints from ev'rywhere. Ride on, King Jesus!

CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 118:19-24 (In Unison)

Open for me the gates of the righteous; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord through which the righteous may enter. I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.

#280 All Glory, Laud, and Honor — ST. THEODULPH

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

After each prayer, the leader may conclude: Lord, in your mercy. All may respond: Hear our prayer.

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. 3

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED CANTICLE Isaiah 6:3, Matthew 21:9 (Sung in Latin)

Sanctus and Hosanna — Franz Joseph Haydn Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Sabaoth! Heaven and earth are filled with Thy glory! Hosanna in the highest!

SCRIPTURE Mark 11:1-11

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’” They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve. (NIV) This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross — Gilbert M. Martin When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of glory died, my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, save in the death of Christ, my God! All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to his blood. See, from his head, his hands, his feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did e'er such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown? Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were a present far too small; love, so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all! Amen!.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

Most holy and gracious God accept these gifts from our hearts. May they be used to share the message of your love with a world that is hurting. May these gifts shine like light in the darkness offering hope, and peace. May we offer ourselves and dedicate our lives to your service this week using our talents and time to build your kingdom. All this we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Lent is a time when we as the followers of Jesus prepare ourselves for Easter and consider the impact of Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection on our lives. Our Faith Formation ministry has collected a list of ideas, daily scripture readings and other resources to make this season more meaningful for you and your loved ones. To find these resources, click on the Engage tab of the Centenary website. For questions, please contact Rev. Bret Cogan.

STEPHEN MINISTRY "When I found out my spouse was having an affair, it knocked the wind out of my sails. I found it hard to get out of bed or even think straight. With the help of a Stephen Minister, I slowly rediscovered the presence of God in my life, and I was able to move forward."
