TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST • OCTOBER 29, 2023 • 9:00AM

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Almighty and forgiving God, we your unworthy servants give you most humble thanks for all your goodness and loving kindness, to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. Give us such an awareness of your mercies, that our hearts may be thankful, and that we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

HYMN

WE GO AS GOD’S PEOPLE INTO THE WORLD HYMN

#189 Fairest Lord Jesus — ST. ELIZABETH

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare:

We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children’s good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

YOUTH SUMMER MISSION TRIPS 2023

Today 10:00 am: Sunday school (Youth Commons)

As followers of Christ, we believe we are invited to go out into our community, and the world at large, to be the hands and feet of Jesus though mission work and serving others! Each summer our Youth Ministry goes out into the world, serving the Lord, in two different places. Our ‘ALL Youth’ in Mission Trip (6th-12th graders) head to Mountain TOP (Tennessee Outreach Project) June 16-22, 2024, and our Senior High Mission (9th-12th graders) Trip partners with YouthWorks to work in a different city or country every July. Next year we will be headed to Niagara Falls, NY, July 20-27, 2024. These trips are life-changing, giving you the opportunity to encounter Jesus and truly live out the Gospel message to “love God and love Neighbor.”

There will be breakfast snacks, coffee & drinks, and fellowship before the lesson every week! God is a God who loves both unity and diversity. In the book of Revelation John shares “and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people, and language...” We are a diverse people! Join us as we figure out who we are and how we can be a people of unity in a world that is completely at odds with itself. Each of us, and our identities, are important to the Kingdom of God being revealed. CONFIRMATION 2024 Confirmation by definition is faith formation and one part of a lifelong journey. Our hope is that through our Confirmation ministry you will be given the opportunity, tools, love, support, and inspiration you will need to build your faith on a firm foundation (Matthew 7:24-25). Starting on January 3, 2024 (through May 19), we invite all 7th graders to join us as we meet each Wednesday night from 6:00 pm—7:30 pm to learn about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the spiritual life, and how they form us and help us to change the way we live our lives. You will not go through this class alone; you will pick a Shepherd (a faithful adult spiritual companion from our church) who will walk beside you all throughout your Confirmation. There will be several field trips, two retreats, lots of meals, and space to ask all your questions to help us grow. The hope is that through these experiences, you will come to encounter Jesus in a very tangible way.

We hope you will pick one OR both of our trips and plan to join us! Registrations open on November 1 at 9:00 am in Realm or on our website www. centenary-ws.org/youth.
