CUMULUS
STUDIO architecture & design
cumulus-studio.net
who we are. Cumulus Studio is a collaboration between two of Tasmania’s most successful emerging architects, Peter Walker and Todd Henderson. From the Latin word for ‘Heap’, Cumulus refers to our conviction that great ideas are developed through sharing and workshopping ideas together in a co-operative way and that this leads to better outcomes.
Through working together, a criticalmass of ideas can be accumulated quickly. These ideas can take on any size or form as required by conditions. With the combined experience of over 25 years working in award winning design practices, we have gained a unique understanding of the importance of design in creating successful projects that are enjoyed
by those who interact with them. Our involvement in some of Tasmania’s most successful public and private architectural projects has also given us a strong appreciation of the commercial requirements for cost control throughout the project and the necessity to provide creative solutions to tight budget constraints.

how we work with you. Cumulus Studio is interested in a collaborative process in which many ideas are considered during the design stage.

It is our experience that, like a good conversation or delicious recipe, the result of mixing good ingredients is often greater than any one of the individual components. These components, gathered through discussion & workshopping ideas,
often include inputs such as budget, program, site, the environment, specialist information, feasibility, people, financial return, user requirements and timeframe. During this process we also examine how we can value add to the project by interrogating the brief, analysing precedents, and looking for efficiencies and value for money. All of these ingredients
are then refined into a design while strategically working through issues with the client and relevant stake-holders. The collaborative process we undertake starts with a strong focus on assisting you to establish a clear budget for the overall project. Once a detailed understanding of the project’s budget has been formed, it can
then be monitored by a cost control professional during all stages of the design process with the design adjusted if necessary to suit. We have a vested interest in the successful delivery of your project and understand that careful cost control is just as integral as our design abilities in us meeting your expectations as your architects.
