Surfacing products from GT Impax are engineered to work with GameTime play systems and are matched to the specifications required for adequate safety surfacing. This includes the correct calculation of play equipment fall heights. Our products are certified to meet all applicable ASTM standards, including F1292 for impact attenuation and F1951 for wheelchair accessibility.

Tips

• Upgrade to a clear UV-stable aliphatic binder to avoid normal ambering of standard aromatic binders

• Include black granules with your color choice to create a more affordable color combination that helps hide wear

More Design Options, More Fun

Poured in Place Rubber (PIP)

A popular unitary surface choice, Poured in Place (PIP) Rubber is one of the best surfaces for ADA accessibility. A wide range of colors allows you to add an element of graphic fun to the playground by creating inlaid shapes and themed designs.

GT Impax offers PIP surfacing with available upgrades. Choose standard EPDM 1-4mm granules or premium smaller .5-1.5mm granules based on your needs. Urethane top coats can also be upgraded for more flexibility and UV protection.

Basic Specifications

• Comprised of two layers: a cushion layer made of clean, recycled tire rubber; and a decorative wear course layer comprised of fine virgin EPDM or TPV granules

• Choose from various binder options to meet your site specific needs

Synthetic Turf

Synthetic turf brings the look of nature to your play environment. In playground applications, we include a cushion layer that provides fall protection. After the Synthetic Grass layer is installed, infill is worked in among the blades to discourage blade flattening and help reduce surface temperature.

Our synthetic turf is available in a variety of lengths and colors all designed for multiple purposes. GT Impax promotes NO CRUMB rubber infill and we offer ENVIROFILL®, an American-made, non-toxic, reusable infill composed of naturally occurring sand, as an upgrade to any system.

• Raking is recommended to distribute infill and discourage blade compaction

Recycled Rubber Tiles

We offer a full selection of tiles to meet your site-specific needs, including Secure Lock Interlocking Tiles and standard tiles (individually glued to sub-base). Both tile types are available in your choice of pigmented rubber top or EPDM top. Rubber tiles are low maintenance, long wearing, and accessible. They are also perfect for indoor applications in addition to outdoor since there is no on site mixing required.

Standard tiles utilize adhesive to firmly lock each tile into place.

Interlocking tiles feature a locking edge to reduce lateral shift, corner lift, and strain on tiles.

Recycled Bonded Rubber

Using larger rubber particles than Poured in Place (PIP) Rubber, GT Impax

Bonded Rubber is an attractive, seamless surface that uses clean recycled shredded rubber tires. Often, bonded rubber provides a lower cost option than other unitary surfaces. The product is porous, allowing water to flow through it.

Installation is performed by technically trained, certified installers and requires specific depth, slope, and tolerance of the base materials. Rubber thickness is customized on site to meet your play equipment’s unique and varying fall heights, saving you money.

• Comprised of a precise combination of wire free, cleaned pigmented recycled rubber and a polyurethane binder

• Installed and troweled by hand to provide a resilient, seamless appearance

• Rubber is 100% recycled

• Larger rubber strands provide the natural look of loose fill surfacing without the disadvantages of displacement

• Single layer installation may offer a lower cost and quicker install

Soft, Colorful, Fun

Recycled Loose Fill Rubber

Made from 100% clean, recycled tire material, these resilient rubber chunks offer the best impact absorbing properties of all loose fill surfaces. It is unique among loose fill surfaces because of the color choices available. Despite the higher initial investment, recycled loose fill rubber can be more economical than engineered wood fiber since it doesn’t decompose, requiring fewer top-offs. Loose fill rubber drains well after a rain and will not attract insects or animals.

Tips

• Use wear mats at slide exits and under swings (see page 14) to reduce displacement

• Containment systems like play curbs reduce spreading to non-play areas

• Offer alternative routes of travel using another surfacing material for improved accessibility

Engineered Wood Fiber (EWF)

Engineered wood fiber is a popular choice for projects with initial budget constraints. Once the newly installed EWF has settled, it forms a “knitted” layer that is designed to support a variety of mobility devices including wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers.

Ongoing raking and occasional topping off will be required to maintain this surfacing and its compliance to safety and accessibility standards.

POURED IN PLACE SERVICES

Roll Coat

Recommended for all poured in place surfaces, a Roll Coat is the first line of defense. A clear, safe urethane layer penetrates the top layer to strengthen the bond of granules and aid in the prevention of holes, cracks, and granulation on your surface. Upgrade your binder to Aliphatic for added resistance and UV protection!

Re-Top

A Re-Top by GT Impax is the most effective way to prevent future demolition of the entire surface. Our 1.5” re-top includes a new 1” padded layer under a new .5” wear course layer fixing any major holes or cracks. A cost effective way to avoid potentially expensive full installations.

Patch Repairs

The solution for surfaces in overall good condition that have holes or areas in need of minor repair. Holes can be a trip hazard and should be fixed immediately. Instead of tearing out the entire surface, we will create a fun graphic patch to complement your play surface and correct the damaged area. After the repair, we can roll coat the entire surface to strengthen and rejuvenate.
