WITH more than 42 car parks throughout the city, the NCP Manchester Ltd team works hard to encourage people to visit and shop in the area by constantly reviewing their offerings and listening to what customers want. Christmas is just around the corner and we are aware the shopping rush will start fairly soon so we will be announcing an entirely new price list for the NCP car park in the Arndale Centre – watch the media and the NCP website (www.ncp.co.uk) for more details. We like to think we bring more to the city than just our car parks by firmly putting our commitment into the local community. This year we have chosen to make Manchester our base for our new purpose-built centre for customer service and in doing so have brought 100 full and part time jobs to the area. NCP’s decision to locate and develop its customer contact centre in the centre of Manchester is evidence of the company’s commitment to being a partner of the city, supporting Manchester City Council in its shared aim to make Manchester a better place to live, work and visit. We are always proud sponsors of the leading Manchester International Festival, and this year proved no different as we became official partners for 2013. We were delighted when the Festival approached us to hold a live screening of Macbeth from the National Theatre in our NCP Bridgewater Hall car park over the summer. It’s not every day you get to experience such culture in a car park, and the people of Manchester supported the experience with incredible enthusiasm – and showed they can put together a great picnic. At the same time we installed charge points for electric

What’s new in The Printworks Big launch for Bierkeller MORE than 1,000 people turned up as a new entertainment complex opened its doors in The Printworks. Bierkeller, which has four bars, launched with an extravaganza of live music, food and drinks to bring the world’s finest beers and dishes along with traditional Bavarian-style entertainment to the city. Guests packed out the upstairs Ski Lodge bar, where you can settle down in a comfy booth with a huge stein of beer to admire the scenic portraits. And more filled the downstairs areas, where the Around The World bar offers brand new menus of beers and food from every continent across the globe. Ukulele band Ukebox took to the stage to entertain guests as they explored the impressive bar, which is decked out with travelling memorabilia and a wall of beer barrels. The menu brings a whole variety of tastes and cultures to Manchester as you can tuck into Spanish skewers, Thai prawns and New Zealand lamb or try a World Burger or Pizza. Delicious desserts of chocolate fudge cake, sticky toffee pudding, ice cream sundaes and arctic roll are on offer to finish your meal with the perfect treat. And guests can drink their way Around the World in 80 beers, with ales and lagers from almost 100 different countries to sample. Drinkers who collect six stamps in a special ‘passport’ – one stamp for each continent – will be entered into a prize draw for two Around the World tickets worth £5,000.

The next stop is the Shooters Sports Bar, where fans can watch sports including football, rugby, cricket and golf from opening to closing time on the 20 HD screens in the biggest sports bar in Manchester. Fanatic fans can reserve packages, including a place and drinks for match days, to make sure they do not miss out on a seat or a moment of the action. And there are also weekly pool tournaments and Xbox competitions in the bar – please check the website and Twitter for updates and more details. Completing the bar line up is the Bierkeller, a Bavarian-themed entertainment complex where guests enjoyed an Oompah Band Show, which are held every weekend. The cosy area also boasts booths where you can pull your own beers and enjoy live entertainment every night of the week, with staff in traditional lederhosen and dirndels. And if you want to watch shows in a little more privacy, the VIP area behind the stage offers up-close seats shielded by glass so others can’t see in. Decked out with leather chairs, tables and drinks holders and a variety of packages on offer, the VIP box is perfect for groups, birthdays, and hen or stag parties. l Visit Bierkeller’s website for their full menu and more information about their special packages and offers: www.thebierkeller.com. Getting a flavour of wagamama By Aimee Howarth WITH a host of new mouth-watering dishes joining the classic choices, wagamama brings every flavour of Japan to hungry guests. And when I was invited to try out some of the new and most popular meals, I headed to the restaurant in the Printworks - the first wagamama to open outside of London twelve years ago. The venue has a retro feel as you go down a sleek metal staircase to get to wagamama’s dining benches. With a long room ending in open kitchens, there is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere – which is added to by the shared bench tables. After being greeted by the attentive staff, I ordered a mango, apple and orange juice, which gave a refreshing, sweet and soothing start to my meal. Hot drinks, soft drinks, and alcohol including Tiger Beer, Kirin Ichiban, and plum wine are also on the drinks list to provide plenty of choice. Turning to the food, starters aren’t an option at Wagamama – instead diners can choose side dishes to accompany their mains to give a little added extra. I decided to try gyoza – vegetable dumplings served with a chili, garlic, sesame and soy sauce – and lollipop prawn kushiyaki – skewers of grilled prawns marinated in chilli and sweet-sour and hot sauce. With a soft outside and gently oozing vegetables, the dumplings melted in the mouth with a just a hint of lemon, while the tender yet crispy prawns brought a kick of tangy chilli. For mains, I tried best-selling dish chicken katsu curry –

grilled chicken breast served with curry sauce and sticky white rice – and chilli men –chicken or prawns stir fried with vegetables in spicy tomato chilli men sauce and served with soba noodles. Inside a gently crisped coating, the chicken was succulent and a spicy sauce brought the dish alive, balanced with rice and a crunchy salad – easy to see why this is a firm favourite. And the chilli men also had a spicy kick to it as the tender prawns nestled on a bed of soft noodles and colourful vegetables. To finish my meal, I chose a taster portion of three cakes – white chocolate and ginger cheesecake, chocolate cake and passion fruit cheesecake. All rich and sweet, they added a soothing and cool final course, with my favourite definitely being the moist, soft chocolate cake with a layer of cream on top. Restaurant manager Jo said: “We love to serve fresh, vibrant food to our customers. Our philosophy is everyone digs in together and has a taste of everything. “It’s a friendly, fast-flowing environment so whether you’re eating with friends, your family or having a quick meal before catching a concert, there’s something for everyone.” l wagamama is open from 12noon to 11pm every day, but closes at 10pm on Sundays. Large parties (six or more) can book in advance. Find wagamama’s full menu, including children’s and their takeaway menu, on their website: www.wagamama. com You can also call 0161 839 5916, follow them on Twitter: @wagamama_uk or download their phone app.
