The electronic health record: transforming Healthcare communications in Europe 2 October 2012 Room ASP 3H1, Brussels, entrance Spinelli, Place du Luxembourg European Parliament Concept note The quality of healthcare is closely linked to the quality and quantity of the health information available to individuals and to those who deliver clinical care and services. It is widely recognized by the EU and Member States that interconnected system of electronic health records can improve safety, prevention, participation and optimize medical costs. However, specific policies and practical tools are still in need of further development across Europe. This conference will focus on policy development of the electronic health record and its technologic-organizational deployment. The debate will explore how users, doctors and healthcare operators can be fully involved in the design and development of e-health, in order to improve the efficiency of services and the uptake of next generation technology. In line with the Digital Agenda for Europe 2020 and most recent EU health policy achievements, this event will offer the opportunity to discuss e-health care challenges also from a regional perspective. In order to understand e-health potentials and future synergies, the Emilia-Romagna Region experience and other European regional excellences in this sector will be discussed. EU policy makers and regional representatives will participate to the event that is addressed to high level experts, EU officials and policy makers from different levels of government with an interest in electronic health management and its future developments.
