Stephanie Jo Yocum won the Democratic primary election May 7, securing her party’s nomination for the Indiana House District 88 general election.

Yocum was ahead by 60 percent or more over her primary opponent, Starr Joy Hairston, throughout the district.

In the Nov. 5 election, Yocum faces Republican incumbent Chris Jeter of Fishers, who was unopposed in the primary.

In a telephone interview May 7, Yocum said her day started at around 3:30 a.m. She dropped signs off at various polling places, noting that there are quite a few in the large district, which includes portions of Hamilton, Hancock, Madison and Marion counties.

“Then I have just sort of been bouncing around to different polling locations so I can interact and talk with voters, check on volunteers and all that good stuff,” she said.

Yocum said voters seemed engaged and expressed concern about a variety of issues, such as local control and the cost of living.

“(I’m) hearing a lot of concern around women’s rights and reproductive rights, a lot of concern around safety and guns,” she said.

“(People are) definitely concerned about property taxes and gas tax increases and health care costs — costs in general. Wages aren’t keeping up with inflation. So, not a shortage of concerns that I’m hearing today.”

Yocum said that, moving forward toward the general election, she plans to continue engaging with residents. She said the role of an elected representative is to understand the community’s priorities and she wants to hear from voters.

Jeter won reelection to the District 88 seat in 2022 with about 60 percent of the votes cast.

A $30 million, multiyear project in downtown Fishers has been completed, and Hotel Nickel Plate opened for business in late April.

DEVELOPMENT

According to an announcement from developers Browning Investments and the Dora Hotel Co., the 116-room hotel also has a full-service restaurant and direct access to the Nickel Plate Trail. It is part of the Tapestry Collection, one of 70 high-end Hilton hotels.

Construction at the site, 8651 E 116th St., started in fall 2022 after five years of planning.

“We are extremely proud of our team for working diligently on making Hotel Nickel Plate come to life,” stated Tim Dora, president of Dora Hotel Co. “I know everyone put their hearts and souls into this project. It makes me proud to drive down 116th Street and see not just a hotel but a home away from home.”

Registration open for Fishers youth academies

Registration is open for a variety of City of Fishers youth academies, including the Mayor’s Youth Academy, Fishers Police Department Teen Academy and Fishers Health Department Teen Public Health Academy.

OPPORTUNITIES

Participation is free for all the city’s youth academies, according to an announcement from the City of Fishers.

“Investing in the education and engagement of our youth is essential for cultivating the next generation of community leaders,” Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness stated. “The City of Fishers is proud to offer these unique academies as a gateway for young people to gain hands-on experience in careers in government operations and public service. Through these programs, students have the opportunity to understand and contribute to the city they call home.”

The Fishers Police Department Teen Academy provides law enforcement-type training for teens to better understand how law enforcement works and to strengthen the relationship between Fishers Police Department officers and the community, according to the announcement.

The program provides an overview of roles and responsibilities of officers, as well as insight into specialized units and skills, including the K-9 Unit, Fishers Dive Team, Crime Scene Investigation and Patrol.

The four-day program is set for July 8-12 at Sand Creek Intermediate School. Applications are open through May 17 for local

students entering seventh through 12th grades.

Fishers Health Department Teen Public Health Academy is a one-week opportunity, July 15-20, that provides an interactive experience for high school students to explore public health disciplines while learning how the Fishers Health Department works.

Students will work with department leadership, public health nurses, environmental health inspectors, communicable disease investigators, public health clinical staff, City of Fishers officials and community partners to learn about retail food inspections, water sampling, pest control and more, according to the announcement.

Registration is open through May 31. Applicants must be a Fishers resident and an incoming high school freshman through senior.

The Mayor’s Youth Academy program allows local high school students to work with Fadness and other city leaders to address issues facing the community, according to the announcement. Students experience behind-the-scenes tours, discuss policy questions and explore career opportunities.

Mayors Youth Academy students will meet monthly throughout the year and conclude the program with a presentation to the Fishers City Council in spring 2025. The deadline to register is June 28. Applicants must be a Fishers resident and a junior or senior in high school with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Woman rescued from submerged car

EMERGENCY

A woman was rescued April 30 from her partially submerged vehicle by Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies, an Indiana Conservation Officer and first responders from the White River and Jackson fire departments.

According to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched to 296th Street and Carpenter Road in northern Hamilton County following a report of a vehicle upside down and submerged in a culvert next to the road.

“It was determined that the occupant was still inside the vehicle and unable to be extricated due to the windows being submerged,” the news release stated. “Without regard for their personal safety, Deputy Rick Hay, Deputy Scott Hazel and DNR Conservation Officer Billy Doss removed their personal safety equipment, entered the water and worked to extricate the victim.”

A winch from a responding fire apparatus helped to angle the vehicle upward and move a window out of the water, and one of the responders was able to break the window.

In a bodycam video from the rescue, the woman can be heard stating that she was the only occupant. She was concerned about getting out through the window, but rescuers assured her that that her head would not be submerged during the process.

The unidentified woman insisted on responders taking her purse before she positioned herself to go through the window.

“Without these measures taken by the first responders, the outcome for the victim could have been much worse and likely have resulted in a drowning,” the news release stated.

According to the news release, the woman, whose age was not provided, received treatment at the scene and was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with complaints of chest pain.

Fishers Arts Council

May is national Mental Health Awareness Month and the Fishers Arts Council’s newest exhibit highlights the role art plays as a therapeutic expression for human emotion.

“Art that Heals: Focusing on Mental Health” opened April 29 and is on display through May 31 at the Hub Gallery, 11810 Technology Dr., inside the Hamilton County Community Foundation building. According to a news release from the FAC, the exhibit features work by 16 artists telling their stories about the positive effect of art on their lives.

“Their art is both diverse and beautiful — and sometimes troubling as their creations echo difficult times,” the news release stated. “Their art also shows them working through mental health issues as they created their various works. The mediums they use are as diverse as the art itself and the people who created it.”

The exhibit includes small sculptural pieces; works painted in bright oils; and watercolors — with a focus on the healing properties of water.

“One artist focused on portraits of people whom she likes and admires. Another artist created large, textured acrylics in a rainbow of colors,” the news release stated. “Two artists have painted pieces that are continuing and unfinished and they are asking people who view the art to add their own comments directly onto the canvas. This exhibit is eclectic, fun, colorful, lively and very much worth a visit to the gallery.”

The artists, some of whom are mental health and health care professionals, live in Fishers, Indianapolis, Noblesville and Greenwood. They are John Anderson, Caitlin Bischoff, Sydney Brink, Krista Darrow, Shakila Garugu, Liz Hamstra, Ashley Marie Meyers, Caroline Pyle, Elaina Robins, Karissa Rumsey, Mansoureh Sameni, Sven Schumacher, Carolyn Springer, Skye VanWinkle, Ruth Williams and Tania Michelle Wineglass.

“It has a lot of that DNA that has stayed with it through the years,” said Sam Murtaugh, Mecum Auctions chief operating officer. “Corvettes and muscle cars are definitely the main theme, if there is one, but we have everything in between.”

The event was scheduled to start May 10 and will conclude May 18 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. The Spring Classic is the event Mecum started with in 1988 and then moved from Illinois to the Indiana State Fairgrounds in 2008.

Since then, consignments have grown to 2,600 consignments and $113 million in sales at the Spring Classic in 2023.

“We’ve now taken over the entire Fairgrounds, every building and every parking lot,” Murtaugh said. “We use the infield of the track for parking. The rest of the facili-

Fishers farmers market opens for the season

The Fishers farmers market, operated by Fishers Parks, opened for the season May 4 and will take place from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Sept. 28 at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater, 6 Municipal Dr.

ACTIVITIES

According to an announcement from the City of Fishers, the farmers market is ranked sixth in the state by the American Farmland Trust: Farmers Market Coalition. It also is one of the few dog-friendly markets in central Indiana.

“On any visit you can find an array of local goods made, grown, baked and harvested by farmers and producers,” the announcement stated. “Each market morning kicks off with yoga or fitness operated by a local studio, offered to visitors for free.”

Starting at 10 a.m. each market day, visitors can listen to tunes from local musicians while browsing tents with more than 70 vendors, plus a group of weekly Biz Kidz vendors — young entrepreneurs. Applications are still open for international food vendors — a new offering this year.

Families with young kids can stop at the Fishers Parks tent directly in front of the NPD AMP stage for hands-on, interactive kids activities that change each week.

The farmers markets have weekly special events. According to the announcement, the planned events are:

Calls for artists and vendors — The Fishers Arts Council has put out calls for artists to participate in upcoming fairs and exhibits. The June exhibit at The Hub Gallery, 11810 Technology Dr., is titled “The Golden Age,” and focuses on work by artists 50-plus. All mediums are welcome, according to the FAC, and artists living in assisted living facilities are welcome to submit. The submission deadline is May 17. The Juneteenth Jubilee exhibit at Conner Prairie is seeking vendor applications, with a deadline of May 24, for the June 19th event. Noblesville senior a powerful presence at the plate

Gabby Fowler has been flexing her power for the Noblesville High School softball team.

“Since arriving as a freshman, Gabby has always been a competitor and has been exceptional at this game,” Millers coach Deke Bullard said.

“She also does a ton of work outside the field. She has athletic weights through the school as well and does other training, including Raymer Strength.”

Through the first 17 games this year, the senior third baseman was hitting .519 with 10 home runs and 28 RBIs.

“I think what we are seeing is her offthe-field work all coming together this year,” Bullard said of her high batting average.

Fowler’s career batting average heading into the season was .472. She holds the school career record for home runs with 44. She had a single-season record of 15

“My biggest improvement over the course of my career has been my mental approach to the game,” Fowler said. “Of course, the extra training and hours in the cages have helped, but I’ve seen a major difference in the player I am from a mental perspective and enjoying the game through ups and downs.”

Fowler has primarily played third base for the Millers, but also played catcher for the Indy Dreams 18-and-under travel team.

The Millers are looking to win their third sectional title in Fowler’s four years.

“Winning back-to-back sectional titles is something that has helped me become the

player I am today,” she said. “Being introduced to a tournament environment my freshman year taught me the importance of being a team player and supporting everyone, no matter what. That team was full of amazing role models that showed me how to be a leader and become what they were. Winning my sophomore year was also super special because no one expected us to win. We were the underdogs that year and were able to come together and accomplish our goals. My goal for this team is to win sectionals and make a long run in the tournament.”

Fowler’s personal goals are to break her single-season home run record and continue to be a leader for her teammates.

Fowler will play for East Carolina University next season.

“When I started the recruiting process, I knew I wanted to go south,” she said. “I looked at multiple schools in the Carolinas, and after many camps, I decided on East Carolina. The coaches and team created an amazing atmosphere that I really wanted to be a part of. When I went on my visit, I also fell in love with the beautiful campus and the culture around ECU sports.”

HEPL celebrating end of Fishers renovations, new public art

Hamilton East Public Library plans to celebrate the completion of renovations at the Fishers Library and the unveiling of “Knowledge,” a public art project in the library’s pedestrian plaza in the Nickel Plate District.

The celebration is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. May 22 at the library, 5 Municipal Dr. “Knowledge” combines a sculpture and ceramic tiles, according to a HEPL announcement. The sculpture is made from carved native stone and onyx and is at the entrance to the Nickel Plate Trail from HEPL’s campus. The 90 ceramic tiles are set into the concrete of the pedestrian plaza on the south side of the building, leading from the Nickel Plate Trail to Municipal Drive. They feature images of Fishers, Hamilton County and Indiana history.

“Knowledge” was supported through a Fishers Arts and Culture Commission grant and HEPL’s Miesse Fund, established in honor of the library’s first librarian, Lulu Miesse.

“The library is excited to partner with the Fishers Arts and Culture Commission on their citywide public art initiatives,” HEPL Director of Experiential Learning Katelyn Coyne stated. “‘Knowledge’ celebrates the community’s dedication to arts and culture and will be a fixture in the landscape of public art along the Nickel Plate Trail.”

Ascension St. Vincent Fishers technology leads to more precise, less invasive surgery procedures

For members of the general public trying out the da Vinci surgery robot at Ascension St. Vincent Fishers, it’s like playing a high-tech video game. However, for surgeons who use the equipment for their jobs, it’s a tool that allows more precision, fewer and smaller incisions and better patient outcomes.

The da Vinci and a Mako robot used for orthopedic procedures were both on display at Ascension St. Vincent Fishers, 13861 Olio Rd., during an April 25 open house. Anyone could take a turn “driving” the da Vinci, using hand and foot controls to manipulate the flexible robot arms to play a game of Operation — with the buzzer turned off.

Among them were Fishers High School Tiger Dynasty robotics team members Brandon Ogawa and Taj Gill.

Ogawa said there were some similarities between the da Vinci and driving robots made by the school team — mostly the need for precision.

“It was really cool,” he said, noting that it is something like a video game. “When you actually put your face up in there, you actually get some decent depth of field.”

Gill said the experience was “trippy.”

“It doesn’t feel like a (virtual reality) headset because it feels a lot more realistic,” he said. “The way the arms move, it almost feels natural in a way. And so, when you’re moving it, it doesn’t feel like you’re moving some robot. There’s no delay.”

Visitors were not able to manipulate the Mako robot themselves, but it, too, was in operation, showing how it helps to calculate and offer guidelines for a surgeon to precisely replace a knee joint.

Some of those surgeons were on hand for a slide-show presentation during the two-hour event. General surgeon Jennifer Zyromski said the da Vinci robot is a relatively new piece of technology at the hospital — it arrived in fall 2023 — and it’s been a big help in her work.

As a general surgeon, Zyromski said, she performs a lot of abdominal surgeries. Historically, that kind of surgery involved large incisions. Later, they were able to do

more minimally invasive techniques using small incisions and manipulating tiny surgical tools attached to wands, with miniature cameras allowing surgeons to see what they’re doing.

But, she said, those wands are straight and don’t have much maneuverability. Also, the cameras have one lens. They show what’s happening in 2D and surgeons depend on team members to move the camera.

“The advantage of the robot, there’s actually two cameras — there’s a left eye and right eye, and it gives you 3D vision,” Zyromski said, adding that the robot’s arms are more maneuverable. “So, instead of just having a straight arm … you can move

your wrist all around — the surgeon can control all the instruments in the robot. When I’m operating, I can control the camera and all three instruments, I can toggle between the instruments, I can position the camera exactly where I want it.”

Obstetric surgeon Valerie Gathers said she’s been practicing for 11 years, but learned to use a surgery robot when she was still a resident. She joked that she “drank the Kool Aid” early on, and became a firm believer in using robot technology.

Gathers said hysterectomies, for example, used to require large incisions and a significant loss of blood.

“The robotic hysterectomy came out in the early 2000s, which was able to really

According to the company website, more than 12 million procedures have been completed using the da Vinci surgical robot since 2022, and there are

about 7,500 da Vinci systems in hospitals around the world.

Mako surgical robots are distributed by health care company Stryker, which bought the original Mako company in 2013. According to the Stryker website, its various products are used in about 75 countries worldwide, affecting about 150 million patients annually.

Smaller incisions lead to better post-surgery recovery, Gathers said, including less chance of infections and less need for pain medication.

Orthopedic surgeon John Martin talked about the Mako robot, which he said calculates exactly where a surgeon needs to cut into bone for joint replacement procedures. That precise calculation leads to better post-surgery balance for patients.

“It allows us to individualize each knee replacement per person,” he said. “This allows us to lower how much pain meds and analgesia that people need after surgery, improves the outcomes (and) gets people home quicker.”

A Mako surgery robot is becoming a more common tool for orthopedic surgeons performing knee and hip replacements. It also was on display during the April 25 event at Ascension St. Vincent Fishers.

Visitor restrictions lifted — Visitor restrictions put into effect during the winter months due to an increase in respiratory illnesses have been lifted at all Community Health Network Hospitals. Duke Energy files for rate increase — Citing $1.6 billion in investments, including a modernized electric grid more resistant to power outages, hundreds of miles of new power lines, increased electric grid security and new systems for customer convenience, Duke Energy has filed a rate increase request with state utility regulators. If approved in early 2025, rates would go up 12 percent in 2025 and 4 percent in 2026. On average, that would be an overall increase of about $28 per month for residential customers, according to an announcement from the company. In the world of unhealthy choices, there are some overachievers. Starbucks offers to start our day with the 590-calorie White Hot Chocolate. Happily, according to its pitch, we will find it to be “creamier than creamy,” and standing in line to get it probably burns a few of those calories. And if an average U.S. female can consume less than 2,000 calories per day, taking down 30 percent of the gross amount for the 24 hours might not be too bad if she evens out her remaining intake with something abundant with a few more redeeming qualities. Broccoli?

The reigning and unchallenged champion of excess goes to the Triple Stacker King from Burger King at 1,370 calories for the sandwich. Add to it fries weighing in at 434 calories and a Coca-Cola at 507, and she’ll hit 2,311 — or 116 percent of the daily allowance. Sure, most of us don’t choke down the gut-busting combo meal daily. So, let’s go with the regular cheeseburger with medium french fries and cola. How bad could that be? It turns out that it’s not so good

My uncle back in New York was accused of fixing an election for a city councilman. And my sister? Well, she spent most of her free time fixing up her friends. Even our dogs were fixed. Fixing is in the Wolfsie blood. Everyone had some kind of repair skill but me. That’s a tough fix to be in.

I used to have a great handyman. He installed our ceiling fan, rescreened the porch and patched up the leak in our roof. He charged $50 an hour. “Unless you help me,” he’d say, “then it’s $65.”

Now that he’s gone, my wife’s favorite expression is, “You need to call somebody.” So, I call the plumber, the electrician, the roofer, the computer repairman. Yes, I can’t fix a darn thing, so I pay these guys at least 100 bucks an hour.

Here’s a word of warning. If you are like me and can’t fix anything, you will end up broke.

Feinstein pays tribute to Tony Bennett with Palladium concert

As founder of the Great American Songbook Foundation, Michael Feinstein has a great appreciation for Songbook Hall of Fame member Tony Bennett.

Feinstein became friends with the legendary vocalist, who died at age 96 in July 2023.

Feinstein, artistic director for the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel will present “Because of You: My Tribute to Tony Bennett” at 8 p.m. May 17 at the Palladium at the Center. Feinstein, who will be joined by Carnegie Hall Big Band, shared some thoughts of the tribute and his relationship with Bennett.

How special is it to do the tribute to Tony Bennett given your close personal relationship?

I would not have been able to achieve what I do if it weren’t for the individuals who preceded me and imparted their knowledge, one of whom was Tony Bennett. I had the privilege of knowing Tony personally — I once had the opportunity to sing with him and I spent time with him socially, along with his wife, Susan. Thus, being able to express gratitude and celebrate his legacy, as well as to discover different and novel ways to interpret his music, presents a significant challenge because he’s not just an icon. He is a legend.

Continuing his music for new generations in “Because of You: My Tribute to Tony Bennett” holds great importance to me and our audiences, an importance I know Tony shared because of his dedication to the arts and educating the youth about music. Bringing the production to Carmel is incredibly special because of everything the city, the people, our foundation and venue mean to me. Indiana is home, and to borrow from “The Wizard of Oz,” there’s no place like home. Therefore, I am doing this not only for myself but also in honor of Tony, espe-

cially because of you.

Can you describe how important Tony’s contributions are to the history of the Great American Songbook?

Tony Bennett’s work has left a significant mark on the Great American Songbook, making timeless classics shine even brighter. His songs, ranging from the iconic “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” to the uplifting “The Best is Yet to Come,” show his unique ability to bring freshness and depth to well-loved tunes.

Whether he’s delivering the smooth elegance of “Fly Me to the Moon” and “The Way You Look Tonight” or the heartfelt simplicity of “Smile,” Bennett’s performances are a showcase of his emotional depth and commitment to the music. His impact on American music is undeniable, ensuring that these songs will be cherished by future generations.

Do you have personal favorites of Bennett that have particular meaning?

For the Tony tribute, I’m performing the songs associated with him, including a lot of the Cy Coleman pieces, like “The Best is Yet to Come,” which he introduced, and “I Want to Be Around,” which Tony also made famous. Of course, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” will be included, along with Gershwin songs because his first commercial

record featured Gershwin’s work. Then, songs associated with people he worked with, like Judy Garland, Nat King Cole, Sophie Tucker, will be part of the repertoire. So, it’s going to be an overview of his career through all of that music.

Do you share stories and anecdotes of your time with Tony?

The first time I met Tony Bennett was in 1983. I was doing a benefit with Rosemary Clooney and Tony was asked to participate. I remember talking to him on the phone first because he wanted to perform some unknown Gershwin songs that I had access to, thanks to my work with Mr. Gershwin — Ira Gershwin. Then, I met Tony in ‘83 backstage at the concert, and he was great. Being a young kid who knew his world, I knew his music and the songwriters, so it was easy for us to start talking and become friends.

Do you have other appearances planned with the tribute?

“Because of You: My tribute to Tony Bennett” will be performed nationwide and there are plans underway for the show to cross the pond to the U.K., Europe and beyond. We have a rather full calendar in the United States. The specifics will be announced at a later date.

IWS founder’s final concert set

For his final concert as Indiana Wind Symphony’s music director, Charles Conrad picked his own exit number.

Conrad chose Ottorino Respighi’s “Pines of Rome.”

“It’s the big blowout finale,” Conrad said. “It’s the ultimate concert ender. It features the entire ensemble.”

The Indiana Wind Syphmony’s “Finales and Fanfare” is set for 6:30 p.m. May 19 at the Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel.

Jay Gephart, who will replace Conrad, will serve as a guest conductor on a piece.

“It has been a real pleasure to serve as a guest conductor for the Indiana Wind Symphony this spring, particularly as I transition into the position of music director for next season,” Gephart said. “We all owe Charlie Conrad a debt of gratitude for his vision in creating the Indiana Wind

Symphony. I am honored to follow in his footsteps.”

Conrad, 70, said he’s comfortable retiring from the symphony he founded in 1997.

“I’m sure I’ll guest conduct some places,” Conrad said. “The main thing I want to do in retirement is go hear a lot of concerts and do a lot of traveling. I want to be free to spend a week at the Metropolitan Opera (in New York), hear three or four different shows and maybe catch a Broadway show.”

Conrad also plans to travel to Europe. He said, although not an official IWS act, he is taking 40-plus IWS musicians to Italy in July to perform a concert in Carmel’s sister city of Cortona.

The Carmel concert will include a John Philip Sousa march and the “First Suite of Holts.” The concert will include a “A Summer was Just Beginning,” which is about the career and untimely death of actor James Dean, from Fairmount, who died at age 24 in an automobile accident.

IBC presents ‘Phantom’

Former IBC student Morgan Rust, who grew up in Noblesville, returns to play the role of Christine.

“IBC is the place where all of my formative training took place,” Rust said. “I grew up with the teachers being family to me, so having them guide me at this stage of my career is an incredible blessing. It also comes with additional layers — I want them to see that all their emotional and physical investment in me is reaping benefits.”

Carmel resident Justin Hamilton, who is a high school senior who takes online classes, plays the Phantom.

“The biggest challenge while rehearsing for the production of “Phantom of the Opera’ is not only learning all the choreography, but also being able to find new ways to interpret the character and convince the audience who Phantom is and what he stands for,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton took a hiatus from ballet at age 13 in 2019 for three years. He returned to IBC in the summer of 2022. He will join the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago as a trainee after graduating.

Hendrickson and Erica Lohman share the title role of “The Firebird” as part of BTCA’s production of “Enchanted Tales” May 24-25 at the STAR Bank Performing Arts Center in Zionsville. “Enchanted Tales” includes “The Firebird,” a one-act ballet; and “Les Sylphides” and an “Anna Pavlova Tribute.”

Hendrickson was in the performance as a background dancer in BTCA’s “The Firebird” in 2016.

“I watched Erica dance as The Firebird

and I was really inspired by her,” said Hendrickson, a 2023 Indiana University graduate who performs with the Colorado School of Ballet. “It feels like a full-circle moment because I get to watch her perform as The Firebird again and I also get to do it myself. It’s so amazing to dance alongside her this time. My parents are so excited because it’s hard to come to watch me dance in Colorado.”

Jane Hachiya-Weiner said this is the fourth time BTCA has presented “The Firebird.”

“It is special to me because of Igor Stravinsky’s moving and exciting score and the dramatic imagery of the darkness of Kachei’s Kingdom in direct contrast to the bright light of the savior, The Phoenix — The Firebird,” she said.

As a pre-professional ballet academy, Hachiya-Weiner said the goal is to train its dancers to be become successful professional dancers if that is their goal.

Indianapolis Opera’s “A Little Night Music” closed the 2023-24 season with “A Little Night Music” May 3-5 at the The Toby Theater at Newfields.
