Mother's ABCs of Marriage

Page 1

BY RUTH CURRIE

To my favorite daughter, Caitlin God really outdid himself when he created you. What I wonder is, how did He think I would be a fitting mother to raise you? And now, before I hardly had time to collect my own wits, you are beginning a life of your own with your very own soul mate. There are many words that I could have chosen to create a marriage vocabulary. Simple as they are, these are the ones that came to my mind. In fact the way I see it, the simpler, the better.

P hoto C redits :

Belong mainly to your father, Jeffery Currie Although I actually took some of the photos, it is only due to his undying passion for capturing a moment in time and his unique eye on the world that inspires me to do the same.

The phrase, “this too will pass applies to marriage as well as children. Things change. Count on it. Jobs change, houses change, waistlines change and attitudes change. Change is good. It keeps things interesting.

J Joy

Joy is not happiness. Joy is the deep sense of satisfaction and well-being that is not based on your circumstances. Find the source of your joy, and work hard to protect it.

“I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show for any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” –R alph W aldo E merson

K Kindness

“Be ye kind one to another.” It’s so simple, yet so hard to do. It is easy to slip into being bitter, to hold a grudge or have a bite in one’s tone of voice. Practice being kind. Practice being nice. It makes everyone’s life easier.

Monkey Jungle, Miami, FL

L Laughter

I know, it should be love, right? That’s a given. Love is the engine. Laughter is the grease for the wheels. It moves the marriage forward. Learn to laugh about things. Plan to laugh as often as possible.

Waiting is not easy. Being on the same time line is not a given in marriage. You could be going in the same direction, but not at the same pace. Remember you are “yoked and be patient with your spouse.

You must remember this A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh. The fundamental things apply As time goes by. And when two lovers woo They still say, “I love you.” On that you can rely No matter what the future brings As time goes by. Moonlight and love songs Never out of date.
