ENEMY Ruth Clare “I was born into the war still raging inside my father…” Publisher: Penguin|Paperback Rights available: Film/TV Agent: Grace Heifetz (grace@curtisbrown.com.au) Description: Ruth Clare's father came back from the Vietnam War a changed man: a violent, controlling parent and a dominating, aggressive husband. Through a childhood of being constantly on guard, with no one to protect her but herself, Ruth learned to be strong and fierce in the face of fear. After escaping her difficult upbringing, Ruth went on to have a family of her own. Facing the challenges of parenting brought her past back to life, and she lived in fear that she was doomed to repeat her father's behaviour. Wanting to understand the experiences that had damaged her father, she met with other veterans and began listening to their stories, of war, conscription, returning to civilian life. What Ruth uncovered left her with a surprising empathy for the man who caused her so much pain and heartache. Weaving a striking personal narrative with a revelatory exploration of the effects of war, Enemy is a bold, compelling and ultimately triumphant memoir from a hugely impressive new Australian writer. Praise for Enemy: 'Ruth Clare brings history into the home with piercing intelligence, unflinching honesty and total, terrifying recall.' – Clare Wright Ruth Clare did a degree in biochemistry/ journalism before realising she wanted to be an actor. THE NAKED VEGAN Maz Valcorza Over 140 raw vegan recipes for health and wellness Publisher: Murdoch Books|Paperback Rights available: Film/TV, Audio Agent: Grace Heifetz (grace@curtisbrown.com.au) Description: Owner of Sydney's Sadhana Kitchen, Maz Valcorza shares 140+ nourishing, plant-based, raw food recipes for health and wellbeing. There once was a nurse-turnedpharmaceutical sales manager who had always partied hard, chain smoked, eaten as many bacon sandwiches as she liked and exercised just enough to 'stay fit'. One day, she decided to take up yoga (because it seemed like a great way to get a toned butt). Little did she know that this snap decision, made out of curiosity and vanity, would change her life forever, leading her on a journey to organic, plantbased, raw food health, one delicious bite at a time. Maz Valcorza has always had a passion for food that was apparent to her friends and family. It was only natural then, that she would trade in a career in pharmaceuticals to open Sydney's first cafe specialising in organic, plant- based living foods and wholefoods. Maz originally began blogging her own recipes and photographs while still working in the pharmaceutical industry. She couldn't believe how easy it was to eat well and feel good and she wanted to share it with anyone who would listen. She opened Sadhana Kitchen, Sydney's first organic, vegan, raw food and wholefoods cafe, in April 2012.

TALKING TO MY COUNTRY Stan Grant A book that talks to every Australian about their country Publisher: Harper Collins|Hardcover Rights available: Film/TV Agent: Tara Wynne (tara@curtisbrown.com.au) Description: In July 2015, as the debate over Adam Goodes being booed at AFL games raged and got ever more heated and ugly, Stan Grant wrote a short but powerful piece for The Guardian that went viral, not only in Australia but right around the world, shared over 100,000 times on social media. His was a personal, passionate and powerful response to racism in Australian and the sorrow, shame, anger and hardship of being an indigenous man. 'We are the detritus of the brutality of the Australian frontier', he wrote, 'We remained a reminder of what was lost, what was taken, what was destroyed to scaffold the building of this nation's prosperity.' Praise for Stan Grant: ‘Grant is a natural storyteller … at his best when recounting his experiences and observations of Indigenous Australian life with devastating simplicity and acuity. This highly readable book … has the potential to spark empathy and generate important discussion, and deserves to be read widely.' – Bookseller + Publisher Stan Grant was lucky enough to find an ‘escape route’, making his way through education to become one of our leading journalists. He also spent many years outside Australia, working in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa, a time that liberated him and gave him a unique perspective on Australia. This is his very personal meditation on what it means to be Australian, what it means to be indigenous, and what racism really means in this country.

YELLOW Megan Jacobson Being fourteen can be murder. Publisher: Penguin|Paperback Rights available: Film/TV, World excl. ANZ Agent: Tara Wynne (tara@curtisbrown.com.au) Description: If fourteen-year-old Kirra is having a mid-life crisis now, then it doesn't bode well for her life expectancy. Her socalled friends bully her, whatever semblance of a mother she had has been drowned at the bottom of a gin bottle ever since her dad left them for another woman, and a teenage ghost is speaking to her through a broken phone booth. Kirra and the ghost make a pact. She'll prove who murdered him almost twenty years ago if he makes her popular, gets her parents back together, and promises not to haunt her. But things aren't so simple, and Kirra realises that people can be haunted in more ways than one. Praise for Megan Jacobson: 'In her first novel, Megan Jacobson reveals herself to be a masterful storyteller . . . This is young-adult fiction at its best.' Nick Earls 'This story has such a generous heart. I loved it. Utterly unique and beautifully written, Yellow pulls you into the rhythms of life in a small coastal town; its beauty and its harsh realities. But it's the supernatural element that illuminates the story, weaving through the loves and hopes of characters you care for deeply. I was there every inch of the way with Kirra, as she fought for a future she could believe in, and I cheered for her too.' Kirsty Eagar
Megan Jacobson grew up in Darwin and the far north coast of New South Wales but now lives in Sydney where she works in TV news production at the ABC. She has a degree in journalism and has worked as a question writer for TV game shows and as an in-house script storyliner and script editor for several Australian television dramas.
