Calumet Eco-Warriors A watershed-based volunteer engagement program
The Vision Friends of the Chicago River envisions a community of passionate Eco-Warriors involved in projects that preserve and protect the Calumet region’s waterways for the benefit of plant, animal, and human communities. Calumet Eco-Warriors mobilizes and equips volunteers from all walks of life to preserve and protect the Calumet region’s waterways.
What is an Eco-Warrior? An Eco-Warrior is anyone who values the Calumet region’s unique ecological assets and wants to do their part to protect them. Calumet Eco-Warriors commit between 5 and 500 hours of volunteer service dedicated to preserving waterways throughout the watershed.
Goals
Calumet Eco-Warriors
Revitalizing urban waterways requires efforts that go beyond the river’s edge. Therefore, Calumet Eco-Warriors has three broad goals: The geographic area covered by Calumet Eco-Warriors
Engaging Calumet-area communities in stewardship work that improves water quality, habitat, and access.
Educating watershed residents on best management practices (BMPs) on and beyond the river’s edge.
Increasing community support and action with regard to water quality and other river-related policy issues.
