THE FIRST ISSUE

IF YOU SEE CREATIVE THINGS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO CREATIVE THINGS.

Feel Desain was born with this in mind. In 2010, two Italian creatives started an online magazine, partly as a fun project, and partly out of necessity - this kind of daily blog and creative database simply didn’t exist. Over the years, Feel Desain has built up a huge collection of articles about the best talents and the most exciting ideas on the creative scene, giving readers around the globe daily updates on the newest and coolest things in the world of creativity.Â

FEEL MAGAZINE IS AN EXTENSION OF FEEL DESAIN AND THIS, THE VERY FIRST EDITION, IS A SPECIAL COLLECTION OF SOME OF OUR FAVOURITE PROJECTS FEATURED OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, AS DESCRIBED BY THE ARTISTS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, ARCHITECTS AND DESIGNERS BEHIND THEM. SOME OLD, SOME NEW, SOME LIKE NOTHING YOU’VE EVER SEEN BEFORE, ALL OF THE PROJECTS WERE CAREFULLY SELECTED BY US, AND WE HOPE THEY INSPIRE YOU.

A big thank you to the artists, designers, photographers and architects who’ve collaborated with us on this first edition - we couldn’t have done it without you..

‘‘We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us

1. ART

realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand. The artist must know the manner whereby to convince others of the truthfulness of his lies.’’

IN THE

SHADOWS Kumi Yamashita strategically shines light on eclectic collections of objects to create her Light & Shadow sculptures, casting incredibly realistic human forms onto the walls.

ART / KUMI YAMASHITA

New York based artist Kumi Yamashita has been creating her Light & Shadow sculptures for over 20 years. Each work is created by sculpting single or multiple objects and then placing them in relation to a single light source.

The complete artwork is therefore comprised of both the material (the solid objects) and the immaterial (the light or shadow). Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private and public collections.

11

ART / IAN BERRY

13

IT’S ALL IN THE JEANS Denim is by no means a traditional medium for creating wonderfully detailed artwork, but Ian Berry uses old pieces of clothing to make incredible portraits.

ART / IAN BERRY

Ian Berry makes his work from many shades of painstakingly cut denim jeans, all layered up and blended together using the wash in the denim to create portraits and often melancholic scenes. From a distance,

the viewer is often tricked into thinking it is a painting or even a blue toned photograph and not until closer inspection do they see the depth of the work and the texture of the denim, leading to quite a surprise.

15

ART / STEVEN SPAZUK

17

PAINTING

WITH FIRE Steven Spazuk has one of the most original methods of painting we’ve ever come across. At a first glance, you’d never imagine that all of his beautiful images started life as flames and soot.

ART / STEVEN SPAZUK

Steven Spazuk pushes the boundaries of the unique technique of “fumage. His paintbrush is the flame of a candle. Dancing against a blank sheet, it leaves organic swirls as a fine deposit of carbon black. Using feathers, scrapers, pins and brushes, he

sculpts this soot to reveal shapes and light. Immersing himself in the humanity of his subjects, he creates remarkable portraits, and, committed to protecting life, his recent paintings are shocking juxtapositions of wildlife and manmade objects.

BENEATH

THE SURFACE This installation, part of the permanent exhibition at Japan’s 21st Century Museum of Art of Kanazawa, allows members of the public to become part of a fun illusion.

ART / LEANDRO ERLICH

Swimming Pool is a life-sized pool divided into two spaces: the upper, exterior one which gives the illusion of seeing people underwater (in fact, there’s a thin layer of water on a transparent pane); and the lower, interior one, into which people can enter.

In this room, one feels he is in an unreal place, totally unlike his usual daily experience. The surprise and the understanding of the “trick” produce an optimistic consideration: we construct reality ourselves, we can never accept it as given.

ART / GREG ‘LÉON’ GUILLEMIN

25

OFF DUTY

CARTOON CHARACTERS In his cheeky Secret Life Of Heroes series, Greg Guillemin imagines what our favourite cartoon characters might get up to in their private lives.

ART / GREG ‘LÉON’ GUILLEMIN

“The Secret Life Of Heroes series started when I took a deeper look at the sacred nature one puts into heroes, serving the purpose of its story.

This is when I realized I wanted to play around and twist this traditional vision of our childhood heroes and put them in not so sacred situations.” - Greg Léon Guillemin

27

ART / BOAMISTURA

29

COLOURING THE FAVELAS Spanish art group Boamistura is famous for their colourful street art and clever use of anamorphism to get their messages across. Luz Nas Vielas is one of our absolute favourite projects.

ART / BOAMISTURA

“We had the opportunity to live in a favela with the Gonçalves family. We noticed the framework made by the “vielas”, narrow, winding passageways. The project aims to respond to this spatial complexity. Flattening the perspective from a point,

the words “BELEZA”, “FIRMEZA”, “AMOR”, “DOÇURA” and “ORGULHO” are read and framed by a flat color, equally covering all the construction materials, democratizing the space. For us, these words are the best portrait of the favela.” - Boamistura

31

ART /THOMAS YANG

A CYCLIST’S WORLD Thomas Yang is both an artist and a passionate cyclist, who creates artwork celebrating the sport. We adore this series of images, drawn using the tyres of a bicycle and representing four of the world’s most famous landmarks.

“In an effort to instill a sense of pride in city cyclists and inspire people to pedal their way into tomorrow, I recreated the most iconic structures in four cities from a collection of bicycle tyre marks. It goes to show that there’s no dream

that’s too far, no ambition that’s too high and no divide that can’t be crossed. The collection is comprised of The Cyclist’s Empire (New York), Bicycle Mon Amour (Paris), God Save the Bike (London), and The Unforbidden Cyclist (Beijing).” - Thomas Yang

ART / DAVIDE D’ELIA

33

INTO THE BLUE This space, with walls, nineteen canvases, a buoy and a chair half immersed in greenish-blue paint and named Antivegetativa, is the work of Italian artist Davide D’Elia.

“Antivegetativa is a very thick paint used in shipyards, usually applied as a primer for the hulls of old ships. It is special because it isolates the structure of plant or animal bodies and over time eliminates any possibility of the proliferation of life. The

paintings depict scenes of the sea, rocky landscapes, retouched photographic portraits, images of “boys” from a now forgotten era. The chair is the place where time stands still, the buoy is the symbol of space-the limit not to be exceeded.” - Davide D’Elia

ART / NICK GENTRY

OLD TECHNOLOGY GETS A NEW LOOK Videotapes, floppy disks, cassettes, camera film. Most of us haven’t used any of these things for years, but artist Nick Gentry is determined to breathe new life into the Obsolete...

Nick Gentry works with contributed artefacts and materials, sourced directly from members of the public. This open working practice is a fundamental starting point of each new work. The rigorous

conceptual basis of this work explores the areas where reality meets illusion, while drawing on references from consumer waste, to pop culture and found art.

ART / FRANÇOISE NIELLY

35

ON A KNIFE EDGE Expertly layering bright colours on top of one another using just a palette knife, Françoise Nielly passionately creates stunning portraits which are abstract and lifelike at the same time.

Françoise Nielly’s painting is expressive, exhibiting a brute force, a fascinating vital energy. Oil and knife combine to sculpt her images from a material that is, at the same time, biting and incisive, carnal and

sensual. Whether she paints the human body or portraits, the artist takes a risk: her painting is sexual, her colors free, exuberant, surprising, even explosive, the cut of her knife incisive, her color pallet dazzling.

ART / CRAIG WALSH

EMERGENCE Australian artist Craig Walsh works on unconventional art projects all around the world, and we first discovered him through this digital video projection in Sydney in 2012.

In Sydney’s Hyde Park South, Walsh’s well-known tree projections became an alternative memorial. The Park is full of monuments to eminent people, but has also been a site of activism and protest. Concerned

that the monuments represent a selective history, Walsh projected the faces of three citizens associated with protesting in the Park. Musicians whistling the activists’ favourite protest songs added a haunting soundscape.

ART / HENRIQUE OLIVEIRA

37

A SPACE IN TRANSFORMATION Transarquitectônica is a spatial narrative and a combination of art and architecture. The Brazilian artist behind the work wanted to explore the evolution of the modern into the natural.

“The work changed a bit since the original plan. I kept the main feature of a large, hollow structure, but conceived the whole structure as a space in transformation, starting in the “ideal” modern space, then

a regular building with bricks, mud walls covered with thatch, shacks of plywood and then a cavernous space, a labyrinthine cave. At one end, a modern, utopian space, and at the other, nature.” - Henrique Oliveira

ART / OMID ASADI

DELICATE LEAF CUTS Omid Asadi finds beauty in the small things, transforming leaves which would otherwise have been left to be trodden on into intricate works of art which will leave you speechless.

“Anyone can love a rose, but it takes a lot to love a leaf. It’s ordinary to love the beautiful but it’s beautiful to love the ordinary.” I created this work with carving and cutting techniques on actual fallen leaves using a craft

knife and a needle. I’m very attentive to beautiful fallen leaves. Suddenly, I started seeing them, not simply looking at them. For me these leaves represent our life, which is too short but I’m trying to give them another life.” - Omid Asadi

39

ART / JAVIER PÉREZ ESTRELLA

INSTAGRAM EXPERIMENTS The coolest things aren’t always found in a gallery - Javier Perez shares his creativity with his Instagram followers, adding simple drawings to found objects to create images which are brilliantly imaginative.

“This project is a simple way to create beauty from the small and common things in life. I want people to take a break from the saturation of photos in general. People use this “technique”

to create their own artwork, to exercise their imagination and creativity. I’m also proud to have worked on digital and traditional campaigns with important international brands.” - Javier Pérez Estrella

ART / MAX ZORN

PACKING TAPE PAINTINGS Max Zorn’s artwork requires a huge amount of vision, as he carefully builds up layers of packing tape, cutting away with a craft knife until he finally reveals amazingly detailed images.

These images are made using ordinary brown packaging tape and a scalpel is used in the place of a brush. Layer upon layer of tape on acrylic glass is shaped, and when the whole piece is illuminated from behind,

contrasts and warmth are revealed. The sepia-toned work is freehand, and subjects range from skyscrapers to portraits, the characters depicted like a James Ellroy novel, pulling the spectator into the scene.

ART / ALINE HOUDÉ-DIEBOLT

41

PANTONE TOYS Aline Houdé-Diebolt’s projects are always simple, playful and bursting with colour, and what could be more fun and colourful than Kinder toys laid out as if they were Pantone swatches?

“This project highlights both my passion for toys and my love for color. These Kinder toy pieces are classified by color range as they would be by a pantonier.

Arranged in space like that, they give birth to different types of patterns through which our eyes wander, from piece to piece, unleashing our inner child.” - Aline Houdé-Diebolt

“LessIS is a collection born from the idea of simplifying the concept of the necklace as much as possible. I focused on the concept of the necklace and how the most important role is played by the pendant and not

by the chain supporting it. The idea was to bring something new to the world of accessories through a new way of wearing pendants. 3D printed in bronze or nylon.” - Maria Jennifer Carew

GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT Bringing together art, fashion, and a whole lot of fresh produce, this project by Yeonju Sung really captured our attention. Vegetables have never looked so good.

The Wearable Food series started with a discovery of the unexpected character of foods. Ingredients seen from a different perspective are reconstructed and reassembled, becoming part of a “clothing” object, with a totally different character

and form. The moment of transformation is also a boundary of reality and nonreality, captured in one photograph, also commenting on the contemporary conscience and tendency to ask “How does it look?” rather than “What is this?”.

FASHION / SLOW FACTORY

SATELLITE SCARVES Petit Atlas is a collection developed by Slow Factory and WWF, consisting of a beautiful collection of limited edition silk scarves, created using NASA satellite and telescope images.

Slow Factory and World Wildlife Fund collaborated to showcase the beauty of nature and sustainable products, culminating in the release of Petit Atlas, a limited edition selection of 1,000 scarves on silk twill and

silk crĂŞpe de Chine. The Collection depicts NASA images curated by Slow Factory founder, Celine Semaan, of regions of the earth unique in their offerings of both endangered wildlife and natural land formations.

FASHION / HOID

SCULPTURAL SWEATSHIRTS The creators of the Muybridge Series really know how to break the rules, creating clothing which is half fashion and half sculpture, inspired by the work of an iconic photographer.

The Muybridge series is a digital approach to transporting classic dynamics onto standalone jersey garments. This study leans on Eadweard Muybridge’s photography work in the late 1800s, with which he was a pioneer in the field of

capturing animal and human locomotion. A bird in full flight is rigged, animated and exported into T-shirts. The T-shirts represent three frozen frames from the animated flight, displaying a different position of the bird’s body during this motion.

CAMERA LENSES GET A MAKEOVER When objects are old or broken, it’s always tempting to throw them out, but Stefaan duPont’s repurposed bracelets are a fantastic way to give brand new life to an old or broken camera lens.

Whether it’s his motorcycle or jewelry, Stefaan simply enjoys working with his hands and appreciates the craft of well-made objects. He’s a bit of a gear-head and loves taking everything apart; it was only a matter

of time before he dissected an old camera lens to see what it was made of. Soon thereafter, he started making bracelets out of the aperture and focus rings to give as gifts to his closest friends and family.

WEARABLE TECH FOR CYCLISTS One of many problems that cyclists face is the inability to communicate with other road users. SEIL-bag was designed for just this reason, making cyclists safer and more connected to other people than ever.

“SEIL-bag is a wearable item combining technology and fashion, which provides bike riders the ability to display their direction, stop, and other emotional signals. The design philosophy of SEIL-bag

WORK AND PLAY All of us are more productive if our workplace is a fun place to be. That was the inspiration behind Table & Tennis, which allows employees to take a fun break during their working day.

We no longer work solely in the office, play in the game room, or eat in the dining room. Our ‘worlds’ overlap. There is a need for furniture to be beautiful and have multiple functions to better serve

the behaviors of today’s world. And why not create pieces that can nudge us to increase our health, happiness, and creativity as well, which play is shown to do?

TAKE NOTE Buying plastic water bottles is something a lot of us do, but it isn’t good for the environment, and there are much more stylish alternatives, like these awesome water bottles, mimicking the shape and size of writing paper.

Resembling the shape of a piece of paper, the Memobottle is a slimline, premium designed reusable water bottle which perfectly slides into your favorite carry bag alongside your computer, books and valuables. Made from a durable,

BPA-free material; the Memobottle assists in reducing the number of disposable plastic water bottles that are having a devastating effect on our environment, whilst improving life efficiency and convenience.

“RearViz is an innovative Rear Vision bike mirror designed for the rider, not the bike. Ideal for commuters, athletes, and weekend adventurers, our arm-mounted convex mirror has been ergonomically designed with an

N°33 WORKBED Especially when working from home, the line between work and rest can become blurred. This functional design by Bless solves that issue, offering a workspace and sleeping area in one.

The idea of chambre n°4 in Villa Noailles, Hyères was to comfortably combine private and work space. The Workbed can be transformed from a bed into a table and vice versa, making two functions coexist and supporting artists

temporarily living and working in this room. The fact that the table must be stored away before accessing the bed should help to define a rhythm between activity and passivity, creating a balance between tension and relaxation.

THE HANGER CHAIR We’re always looking for ways to save space in our small, modern homes, and what could be more practical than a set of chairs which can be hidden away when not in use, and even used to hang your clothes on?

The Hanger Chair is a folding chair based on one of the ultimate storage systems: the modest hanger. It allows us to store clothes in an orderly fashion. Most houses or flats are equipped with a wardrobe to

receive the object. By morphing the function of the hanger with that of the folding chair, a new hybrid is born: a Hanger Chair that has a function, even when not in use: to store our clothes in an orderly fashion.

ADJUSTABLE LOAD CARRIER FOR LABOURERS This practical carrier was designed with the health and wellbeing of workers in mind. The construction allows the safe lifting and carrying of heavy loads with a greatly reduced risk of injury for labourers.

The average Indian worker carries between 5 and 50kgs a day, and many are exposed to occupational hazards like musculoskeletal disorders, neck pain, and back problems. The aim of the device is to facilitate the three common methods

ALIENATION At first glance, these images could be creatures from another planet. In reality, they’re real people upside down, and to understand them, we must change the way we see the world.

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”. – Wayne Dyer. The inspiration behind Alienation lies in the fundamental meaning of this quote. This was the reason why I pursued an idea that ultimately led to a search

for the alienated being inside us all. For me, Alienation became an insight into unexplored inner souls. I saw eyes on unfamiliar faces, and in them a whole galaxy of tales to tell. I wish to invite you, to change the way you look at things.” - Anelia Lobuster

RETRO INSPIRED FOOTBALL SHIRTS In this project, Emilio Sansolini combines his passions for soccer and graphic design, imagining how various football teams’ shirts would look if stripped down to their defining elements.

GRAPHICS / EMILIO SANSOLINI

“I’ve always been passionate about graphics and illustrations. I used to spend hours painting and drawing, first on paper and later on my computer, since I was a little kid. Football has always been a huge passion for me

since I can remember. My idea was to see how the jerseys of the main clubs would look in a minimal and smart style, inspired by retro designs. Taking everything off except the essentials that represent each club.” - Emilio Sansolini

HOW TO BE A

HIPSTER Want to create your very own hipster brand, but don’t know where to start? Lucky for you, Tim Delger has created a foolproof guide showing you just how to give your logo that cool, hipster edge.

GRAPHICS / TIM DELGER

“The Hipster Logo Design Guide is a satirical take down of trendy logos seen in the hippest neighbourhoods around the world. Using clichés and overused type choices, the guide is as an ironic “How To” for anyone in need of

a new logo for their artisanal brand. And as the guide says, there’s no concept necessary, so you’ll never have to worry about the meaning behind your logo’s symbolism, or the reasons for any of your design choices.” - Tim Delger

GRAPHIC / SILVIA VIRGILLO

TYPOGRAPHY OF TORINO If you’ve ever walked through the city of Turin, you will have noticed the number of signs, featuring all kinds of lettering. We collaborated with Silvia Virgillo, who collects typefaces from all around the country.

Lettering da is a look at the city and at the words “she” says, through a photographic collection of letters and numbers from public streets. The most interesting ones are redesigned and compared to similar typefaces. The first development is

Lettering da Torino, born in 2012 and still active on Facebook and Instagram. The project is constantly growing: selected designers are searching for lettering in Milano (G. Nardulli), Matera (F. Paternoster) and Genova (L. Macaluso).

FONTS WITH FACES Have you ever thought about how a font would look if it were a person? Tiago Pinto has. His Type Faces Project puts a face to a font, creating personalities to match all your favourite styles.

“Back in 2012, before moving to Amsterdam, I took some time off and was able to spend some time doing “not-so-far-from-work-stuff”, and keep my mind busy exploring different things. That’s how The Type Faces

Project was born, by putting a face to every font. I started off with Futura’s good looking middle-aged man, the Italian Bodoni with a fashionable moustache, the sad Courier New and the not so handsome Comic Sans.” - Tiago Pinto

GRAPHIC / KAPIL BHAGAT

SCIENCE IN TYPOGRAPHY Indian artist Kapil Bhagat applied his minimal style to pay tribute to some of the best-known names from the history of science, cleverly indicating what each scientist became famous for.

“My blog is ongoing project of minimal art, reflecting the significance of that day. For India’s national science day, I decided to extend the series of scientists’ names expressed through typography. Finally, I came up with our

all time favourite names in science. My aim was to keep it as minimal as possible, without adding any extra elements to the text. The real success was in reaching many science lovers and minimalism lovers simultaneously.” - Kapil Bhagat

GRAPHIC / JAMES CAMPBELL TAYLOR

THE LOGOS OF NEW YORK CITY James Campbell Taylor, resident of New York and graphic designer, combines some of the best-known logos with neighbourhoods in the Big Apple in order to create a commentary about the American city.

“City in Chains” was a project that developed out of my frustration and disillusionment with the rapidly deteriorating state of New York City’s commercial landscape and the unceremonious demise of its considerable cultural heritage. By branding Manhattan’s

historic neighborhoods as pastiches of familiar trademarks I intended to provide a droll commentary on corporate monotony and its relentless infiltration of modern society.”

- James Campbell Taylor

‘‘In a strange way, architecture is really an unfinished thing, because even though

Daniel Libeskind, Polish-American architect

the building is finished, it takes on a new life. It becomes part of a new dynamic: how people will occupy it, use it, think about it.’’

THE FRIENDLIEST HOUSE ON THE BLOCK Writing “HELLO” on the outside of your home might not be the most subtle way to greet the neighbours, but this renovation is both minimal and modest, and fits in surprisingly well in one residential Melbourne suburb.

ARCHITECTURE / OOF! ARCHITECTURE

This renovation and extension of a Victorian-era shophouse is located on a small but busy street in the suburb of Richmond in Melbourne, Australia. Sitting on a corner opposite the neighbourhood cafe, the house embraces its mini-civic

role by offering passersby a greeting in the form of a Hello in white brickwork, designed in collaboration with artist Rose Nolan. The wall allows separate worlds to exist happily side by side with a cheerful public face that gives nothing away about the life behind.

A LITTLE PLACE IN THE COUNTRY This simple yet fabulous little home was the personal project of a particularly creative couple from the USA, who were keen to build themselves a country retreat.

“In summer 2012 we left our jobs, moved to Nick’s family land in West Virginia, took down an old barn and reclaimed the lumber to create this small home. We talked about the idea on one of our first dates - building something with a wall of windows and

watching a sunset or star gazing from inside the house. It was a risk, but we are both young and realized that’s the prime time to do things that might not be completely practical! The window house serves as a retreat from our current busy lives!” - Lilah Horowitz / Nick Olson

In daylight, a 70-year-old homesteader shack situated in the stark Joshua Tree desert reflects and refracts the surrounding terrain like a mirage or a hallucination. As the sun tucks behind the mountains, slowly shifting geometric color fields emerge until

they hover in the desolate darkness. Smith states, ”Lucid Stead is about tapping into the quiet and the pace of change of the desert. When you slow down and align yourself with the desert, the project begins to unfold before you.”

A RECYCLED

MOON

This Hong Kong based studio decided to draw attention to environmental issues by creating an incredible recycled pavilion which, when reflected in the water surrounding it, resembled the moon.

ARCHITECTURE / DAYDREAMERS DESIGN

Rising Moon is a hemispheric art installation made from recycled plastic bottles and LEDs, lighting up the Hong Kong cityscape. An illuminating geodesic dome created for the Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern

Wonderland 2013 in Victoria Park, Hong Kong. It re-interprets traditional paper lanterns with recycled plastic bottles, at the same time creating a Synthetic Moon, thus promoting the message of environmental protection.

SMART STUDENT

HOUSING Student apartments are not known for being spacious, but these units take that to a whole new level. Cleverly planned, they may be small in size, but they make up for it in character.

Successfully building student housing requires innovative thinking and new solutions. These 10 square metre student units, a collaboration between wood manufacturer Martinsons and real estate company AF Bost채der are

affordable, environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient and smart in terms of design and materials. The efficient layout offers a comfortable sleeping loft, kitchen, bathroom and small garden with a patio.

ARCHITECTURE / ACHILLES DESIGN TEAM

HONEYCOMB SLEEP SPACES Festivals are not known for their luxury accommodation, and many festival-goers end up sleeping in a cramped tent. The Achilles Design Team’s B-and-BEE units are an unusual and much more comfortable alternative.

The B-and-BEE is a modular, stackable sleeping cell for festivals. For the creation of the B-and-BEE colonies the design focus was to create spaces of social interaction, relaxation & comfort. The cozy, king-sized bed can easily

be transformed into a comfortable lounge seat. The project’s main task is to create a social economy by replacing ‘throw away’ tents with a durable alternative that uses materials with a low eco footprint.

UNIQUE SEASIDE HOMES These unusual looking rolling homes in Lithuania, with their enormous windows and picturesque setting, were designed to create a strong connection between occupants and the surrounding nature.

Summer never ends in the rolling homes of SvencelÄ—. These houses reflect the relaxed atmosphere of their seaside location as well as the dynamic people who will choose to call them home. The form of each home facilitates a clever

layout over three levels. Transparent facades allow uninterrupted views of the surrounding canals, while the closed sides maintain privacy. Modern conveniences combined with a stunning natural location create a desirable place to live.

ARCHITECTURE / LUCIANO PIA

URBAN TREEHOUSE Amongst the residential streets of Turin, you can find 25 VERDE, an apartment block like no other. Green, airy, and constantly changing with the seasons, it’s the perfect place for a nature loving city-dweller.

This building, with 63 residential units, was conceived as a living forest. It is a special building because it is alive: it grows, it breathes and it changes. 200 trees produce oxygen, absorb carbonic anhydride, cut down air and noise pollution, follow the

natural cycle of seasons, and create a perfect microclimate inside the building in summer and winter. When all the green is fully blooming it gives the feeling of living in a tree house. You can dream of a house or live in a dream!

A NEW VIEW OVER TURIN The La Torre project is a concept for one of the main squares in Turin. Developed by the studio of SENSEable City Lab founder Carlo Ratti, it would provide a totally new kind of view over the North Italian city.

PHOTO CREDITS: WALTER NICOLINO & CARLO RATTI

The idea is to create a window on the city, with no limits. The city outside is filmed and a real time reproduction projected on the interior walls, completing the real view - framed by the windows - with a virtual one. A panoramic elevator on an

independent flagpole allows access to the restaurant, functions as an emergency exit, and offers a 360째 panoramic view. The new structure becomes a real instrument for viewing the city, as far as the horizon where the hills meet the mountains.
