(at nearly 8,000 words and lyrics, the role of Higgins is one of the wordiest in the musical theatre canon!). MY FAIR LADY has a rostra of instantly-recognisable characters, with comedy legend Steve Furst playing Alfred P Doolittle, rising star Djavan van de Fliert as Freddy Eynsford-Hill, the iconic Cathy Tyson as Higgins’ mother, stage and screen favourite Sarah Moyle as Mrs Pearce, alongside our barn-storming ensemble. This is a truly memorable company of actors not to be missed and Michael Taylor’s stunning design, George Dyer’s sublime musical arrangements and Jo Goodwin’s glorious choreography ensure this is a festive treat the entire family can all enjoy together and remember forever.
And we are honoured Liz Robertson – one of MY FAIR LADY’s leading Elizas and widow of the late Alan Jay Lerner – will return to Leicester this festive season for a special concert. Accompanied by pianist Simon Beck, Liz will share memories from her time in the 1978 Haymarket production, read passages from Alan’s autobiography and perform songs. Presented on our MY FAIR LADY set, it will be a joyous afternoon where theatre history and our production of this great show collide.
Alongside MY FAIR LADY, we are excited to welcome the little ones aboard a very special ship, as we set sail on a swashbuckling quest in Claire Freedman and Ben Cort’s PIRATES LOVE UNDERPANTS. Adapted by Brad Fitt, the show is directed by Cara Nolan, who helmed our beautiful 2023 production of THE OWL WHO CAME FOR CHRISTMAS. Curve Resident Creative Jude Taylor has created original music for this raucous family show and Debbie Mingham’s wonderful set, costume and puppetry design will bring to life everything from Big Knickers Bay to those fabled pants of gold!
In January, we swap the cobbled streets of Covent Garden for the cobblers of Price & Son, as we present a major new Made at Curve production of Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper’s electrifying smash hit KINKY BOOTS STRICTLY star Johannes Radebe leads an extraordinary company, joined by Curve alumni Dan Partridge as Charlie Price, rising star Courtney Bowman as Lauren, as well as Newtion Matthews, Kara Lily Hayworth, Joe Caffrey, Kathryn Barnes, Lucy Williamson, Jonathan Dryden Taylor, Scott Paige, Liam Doyle and our inspirational ensemble. And a formidable creative team are breathing new life into this Midlands-set story, including designer Robert Jones (last represented here by last year’s dazzling taptastic 42ND STREET) and fresh from her work on the WICKED film, our BEAUTIFUL choreographer Leah Hill returns to Curve. Tickets are sold out, but please check back with the box office team nearer the time, as production seats will be released nearer the show dates.
Looking ahead to the Spring, the beloved novel by C.S. Lewis THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE returns, taking audiences on another magical visit to Narnia. This is closely followed by multi award-winning musical comedy & JULIET, which flips the script on Shakespeare’s greatest love story, with a playlist of top pop anthems by the man behind hits for artists such as Britney Spears, Bon Jovi and Katy Perry, the Max Martin. And reflecting on the life of another music icon is TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL; written by award-winning playwright Katori Hall (her magnum opus THE MOUNTAINTOP recently played here), this sensational musical charts Turner’s journey from her humble beginnings in Nutbush Tennessee, through unimaginable challenges, to the height of her stardom.
Plays coming up include KIM’S CONVENIENCE, GIRL ON THE TRAIN, ANIMAL FARM, Malorie Blackman’s PIG HEART BOY, adapted by Winsome Pinnock and a new production of Moira Buffini’s celebrated play HANDBAGGED, imagining the untold conversations of two of history’s most revered women, Margaret Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth II. Presented as part of our ongoing relationship with the National Theatre’s Theatre Nation Partnership and directed by Alex Thorpe, we’re thrilled to bring this fascinating play to Curve.
After a phenomenal response down under, we’re excited to be producing the UK premiere of MURIEL’S WEDDING THE MUSICAL, collaborating with acclaimed Australian director Simon Phillips, writer PJ Hogan and multi-platinum musicians Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall. This musical is a pure explosion of unadulterated joy, as Muriel finds the courage to be herself, inspiring most of Australia – and the Midlands! – along the way. A phenomenal cast and creative team are busy imagining the show for its Leicester bow and continuing our record of celebrating upcoming actors on the cusp of big things, we’re thrilled Megan Ellis will make her Curve bow as our heroine Muriel Heslop, opposite Annabel Marlow’s outrageous Rhonda. Make sure you RSVP early for the wedding of the year, playing exclusively at Curve in 2025.
We hope you have a ‘loverly’ festive season with your loved ones and look forward to welcoming you for a quintessentially Curve Christmas and start to the new year.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

‘A Loverly Made at Curve Christmas Musical’
2024’s smashing, positively dashing Made at Curve Christmas musical is Lerner and Loewe’s classic rags to riches tale, MY FAIR LADY. A beautiful musical adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play PYGMALION, MY FAIR LADY was first performed on Broadway in 1956 starring Julie Andrews and adapted into a 1964 Oscar-winning film starring Audrey Hepburn. This brand-new production is directed by Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster (EVITA, THE WIZARD OF OZ, BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL).
MY FAIR LADY follows Eliza Doolittle, a cockney flower seller in Covent Garden, who by chance meets phonetics professor, Henry Higgins. As part of a wager with a fellow phonetician, Higgins sets out to teach Eliza how to speak like a lady of high society – but learns a few lessons of his own along the way.
Filled with comedy, romance, and dazzling songs such as The Rain in Spain, Wouldn’t It Be Loverly and I Could Have Danced All Night, this unmissable production is set to be a charming Christmas treat. This production of MY FAIR LADY is sponsored by De Montfort University (DMU), with the show’s orchestra sponsored by music licensing company PPL. Age guidance: 9+

We are proud to officially launch our Made at Curve Buddy Scheme, generously sponsored by PPL PRS.
We realise some people may feel anxious about attending the theatre alone, especially if it’s your first visit with us. Having a Buddy enables audience members to enjoy any Made at Curve production in the company of a Buddy.
Anyone can request a Curve Buddy: A Buddy may be particularly useful for the elderly, people with neurodivergence, those living with dementia, individuals with learning disabilities and other sensory or communication needs.
Our Buddies are trained in safeguarding and health and safety, as well as getting a disclosure and barring service (DBS) check. This is to ensure you are in safe hands and have the best experience with us during your visit to Curve.
HOW DO I REQUEST A BUDDY?
• If you’d like to share your visit to Curve with a Buddy, please let our Box Office team know when you make your booking. The best way to do this is by calling 0116 242 3595, emailing access@curvetheatre.co.uk, or by coming into Curve to speak to us in person and we will be happy to assist you.
• Buddy requests should be with us at least two weeks prior to the performance or event.
• If there are any specific adjustments that will make your visit more comfortable, please detail these when requesting a Buddy.
• Once paired with a Buddy, you will pay for your ticket and your Buddy’s ticket will be covered by Curve. You will meet your Buddy at Curve ahead of the show. For more information visit www.curveonline.co.uk/ made-at-curve-buddy-scheme/

TUE 25 FEB – SAT 1 MAR • STUDIO THEATRE
A powerful re-telling of George Orwell’s chilling and timeless classic. When the downtrodden animals of Manor Farm overthrow their master and take over, they imagine it is the beginning of a life of freedom and equality for all. However, over time a cunning and brutal elite among them, masterminded by the pigs Napoleon and Snowball, gradually take control. Soon the other animals discover that they are not all as equal as they once thought and find themselves ensnared as one tyranny is replaced with another.
Orwell’s enduring and devastating satire about the corruption of power is brought vividly to life on stage in Octagon Theatre’s compelling critically acclaimed production.

The Queen and her most powerful subject, behind closed doors.
TUE 25 – SAT 29 MAR • STUDIO THEATRE
Moira Buffini’s clever and fiercely funny comedy is a fly-on-the-wall look at what might have happened when Queen Elizabeth II and Margaret Thatcher came face-to-face in the privacy of the palace.
Over the course of a decade did the Monarch and the Iron Lady ever find a common ground, or did their stiff upper lips reign supreme? This highly entertaining Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch and Theatre Nation Partnerships production explores the intense relationship between two of history’s most revered female leaders, and the legacy they each left behind.

A chance meeting on a hook-up app sets two thirtysomething damaged hearts on a spectacular collision course. Born into Thatcher’s Britain of race riots and rampant homophobia and growing up in the shadow of Aids and Section 28, the pair form a trauma bond so tight, they might just survive it all. But sometimes survival means knowing when to leave.
TOXIC is the explosive new show from award-winning theatre maker Nathaniel J Hall (FIRST TIME, IT’S A SIN) that celebrates the resilience of the queer spirit.

TUE 29 – WED 30 APR • STUDIO THEATRE
Bird song is ephemeral–like dance, it exists only in the moment—sung once, then lost to time.
SONGS OF THE BULBUL, a new dance work by Curve Associate Artist Aakash Odedra with choreography by Rani Khanam and music by Rushil Ranjan, is inspired by the ancient Sufi myth of a bulbul captured and held in captivity.
A sensitive, beautiful dialogue between Sufi Kathak, music that seamlessly blends orchestral and Indian Classical tradition, and Islamic Poetry, SONGS OF THE BULBUL invites audiences to witness a transformation transcending physical boundaries towards enlightenment. Through a journey from Persia to the subcontinent, from freedom to captivity, and the soul’s journey towards the divine love and enlightenment, Odedra poses a universal question: Will we, like the caged bird, remain bound to the material world, or will we soar towards a higher existence of liberation, and the divine?

The long-running West End hit returns!
A truly terrifying theatrical experience created by THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN’s Jeremy Dyson, and Andy Nyman, co-creator of Derren Brown’s television and stage shows. When Professor Goodman, arch-sceptic out to debunk the paranormal, embarks on an investigation of three apparent hauntings – as recounted by a night-watchman, a teenage boy, and a businessman awaiting his first child – Goodman finds himself at the outer limits of rationality, and fast running out of explanations.
After exhilarating audiences for two years in the West End and across the world with record breaking, sell-out productions and a smash hit film, GHOST STORIES is “genuine scary fun” (Sunday Times), a worldwide phenomenon more spine-tingling and fantastically terrifying than ever. “Murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, adultery and treachery… all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts”. So begins the international multi-award-winning musical, CHICAGO
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.
Created by the musical theatre talents of John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, CHICAGO’s sexy, sassy score with one show-stopping song after another includes Razzle Dazzle, Cell Block Tango and All That Jazz. With 6 Tony® Awards, 2 Olivier Awards, a Grammy® and thousands of standing ovations, CHICAGO truly is “SUPERB” (Daily Telegraph).

BOOKING FEES
Curve has enjoyed a successful year, creating and presenting extraordinary work on our stages and engaging our many communities through our inclusive programme of participation and learning.
We are incredibly proud of our subsidised pricing and free and low-cost events which make Curve accessible to as many people as possible. We will always protect that access and inclusivity.
At the same time, we are being confronted by increased costs and financial challenges. We have to ensure that we can continue to make and present world-class theatre for our audiences during a challenging economic climate.
From Monday 1 July 2024, we re-introduced a non-refundable £2 booking fee per order added to all new orders where a monetary value is attributed to the ticket. To keep the impact as minimal as possible, this will be a flat fee of £2 that is not linked to the number of tickets you are purchasing. It will be clearly signposted alongside the advertised ticket price and will be added to your order at the end of the transaction. The fee will be directly reinvested into activities both on and off our stages. Nobody likes price increases, but your continued support will enable us to continue to offer outstanding theatre whilst keeping Curve open to all.
For full information including our terms and conditions of sale and acceptance, which includes the aforementioned booking fee please visit curveonline.co.uk and click on terms and conditions.
• Published ticket prices include a contribution which is invested back into the organisation.

During these performances, audio describers provide a live, verbal commentary on key visual aspects of the show for audience members who identify as Blind or sight impaired. The description is presented via a personal headset (available from the Box Office) and includes an audio introduction to the show before the performance starts.
DEMENTIA FRIENDLY PERFORMANCES (DF)
Dementia Friendly performances are tailored to meet the needs of people living with dementia. They include adaptations to the show, clearer visual markers and signage in the physical environment, and a relaxed attitude to movement and audience responses during the show.

An accompaniment to Audio Described performances, Touch Tours are a tactile tour of the stage, set and costumes, giving audience members who are blind or sight impaired greater access to the performance. Tours usually take place 90 minutes (or earlier) prior to the start of an Audio Described performance.
