...to our Autumn & Winter season at Curve, where you will find a world premiere, the rediscovery of two great British musicals, an epic Shakespeare comedy for all the family, another delicious Dahl, our most ambitious Inside Out Festival to date and much more. We believe there truly is something for everyone and we hope you will find something to entertain, inspire and engage you. Following the phenomenal success of Bugsy Malone last year, Associate Artist Nick Winston will stage Shakespeare’s magical comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In a Curve first, our Curve Young Company will join forces with our Community players, creating our most ambitious production of its kind to date. The 70 strong cast is made up of people of all ages from across the local area, and features incredible designs by local artists Kevin Jenkins and Metro-Boulet-Dodo. As a registered charity, working with our communities sits at the heart of so much of our work and we are all excited by this collaboration. Looking ahead, we are delighted to be working alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber, to produce a brand new Made at Curve production of his Tony Award®-winning masterpiece Sunset Boulevard. Featuring the incomparable Ria Jones as movie legend Norma Desmond, Danny Mac as her would-be lover Joe Gillis (returning to Curve after appearing in Legally Blonde) and with an orchestra of 16, this production promises to be a spectacular event. After two years in development, we are proud to be producing the world premiere of Pink Sari Revolution. This incredibly important story is based on the real life plight of Sampat Pal who, along with 400,000 Indian women, has made a stand for gender equality and equal rights. Adapted by Purva Naresh and directed by our Associate Director Suba Das, the play is based on Amana Fontanella-Khan’s internationally acclaimed book and will go on to tour venues around the UK, after opening here in LE1. Our Inside Out Festival is now a regular fixture of our annual calendar and we have curated an extraordinarily diverse line-up of some of our best local talent. Curve Young Company presents the classic Oklahoma!, local new musical theatre collective Sheep Soup are back with The Leftovers, and Jess Green’s topical play Burning Books are just a few of the highlights in a jam-packed festival of full-bodied theatre. Christmas is always a special time at Curve and this year we are proud to present Leslie Bricusse’s Scrooge The Musical. Adapted from arguably the greatest Christmas story of all time, Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Scrooge is a truly magnificent British musical. The story has enjoyed reinvention across generations and we are thrilled to present one of the most magical and captivating adaptations of them all at Curve this Christmas. Accompanying Scrooge is David Wood’s glorious version of Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine. Following the success of Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox, The Twits and The Witches, Curve’s magnificent new co-production with Rose Theatre Kingston will be directed by Julia Thomas, who completed a residency at Curve this year as part of the Regional Theatre Young Director’s Scheme. Finally, we are proud to have a reputation for producing and presenting some of the finest musicals around and we are honoured the Royal Shakespeare Company has chosen Leicester to open their acclaimed production of Matilda in spring 2018. As ever, thank you for your continued support. Chris Stafford Chief Executive

THU 10 – SUN 20 AUG • THEATRE This summer, merrily wander the night with our Curve Young Company and Community actors in a vibrant new production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Directed by Curve Associate Artist Nick Winston (Director Bugsy Malone, Choreographer Grease and Legally Blonde) and featuring a cast of 70 people aged 12 to 63, this epic reimagining brings aspiring actors together under the Made at Curve banner to present one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies. ‘The course of true love never did run smooth…’ Hermia loves Lysander, Lysander loves Hermia, Helena loves Demetrius and Demetrius loves Hermia. Under the light of the moon, we follow the story of our lover’s quartet as they become ensnared in magical mishaps in a fantastical forest at the hands of the mischievous fairy sprite Puck. SUSAN CALMAN:

THE CALMAN BEFORE THE STORM SUN 15 OCT, 7.45PM • STUDIO It’s Susan Calman’s tenth year in comedy and she’s back with a brand new show. You may have seen or heard her on shows like QI, Have I Got News For You or Mock the Week, and now you have the opportunity to see her in person; life-size, if you will. The show? Well she’s ready to create a storm, to set the record straight, to give it to the man (whoever he is). Incidentally she would also like to be Batman. Ninety minutes of comedy that you will enjoy if you’re over 16, like what she does, and won’t be so drunk that she has to throw you out. Sounds like a terrible personal ad doesn’t it? She also likes fine wines, kittens and walks along the beach. Recommended for ages 16+ TICKETS £16*

MUSICAL

THU 26 – SAT 28 OCT • STUDIO The Leftovers is a comic and stirring contemporary musical about the pitfalls of artistic interpretation from Sheep Soup Productions, graduates of Nottingham’s BAFTA award winning Television Workshop. Following the sudden death of Jodie, occasional gig reviewer and the definition of misadventure, some of her friends join forces in a Nottingham community recording studio. Local singer-songwriter Hayley has penned a song for Jodie, and the makeshift band meets to record the single for charity. However, the situation quickly escalates as the group disagree about what Jodie would have wanted, and the real reasons why they’ve come together. Memorial? Alleviating guilt? A support group in musical form? School friend Angie had drifted away and is back to find closure. Yaz helped Jodie recapture her rebellious youth but craved a deeper connection. Russ wants to find out how much their fleeting romance meant. Jim is just trying to keep the group’s creative ambitions on track. Recommended for ages 12+
