Interview with songwriter/ singer Brandon Williams The Curvy Styler

had the opportunity to interview songwriter/singer Brandon Williams who first contacted me via Facebook and asked “when am I going to let a man that celebrate plus size women be in the magazine, lol.” I will admit, I was intrigued and told him I had not heard his song, “Plus Size Diva Anthem”. To his surprise he sent me the YouTube link and I will admit I liked his song. Here is Brandon Williams’ interview.

Jchell: Where are you from?

Brandon: I’m from Ivanhoe, North Carolina.

Jchell: Where did you attend high school/college?

Brandon: I attended Cape Fear Community College which is in Wilmington, NC. Jchell: What is your favorite genre of music?

Brandon: Even though I perform hip hop my favorite genre of music is southern soul. Soul music teach a man the value of a women and her worth. I’m a big fan of Tyrone Davis.

Jchell: How long have you been a songwriter/singer?

Brandon: I been writing music since the summer of 1996.

Jchell: Who or what first got you involved with songwriting/singing?

Brandon: In the summer of 96 two of my cousins and I were just chilling in my room bored listening to music. All of a sudden writing music came to my mind and we started writing. They didn’t write for long but I keep it moving.

Jchell: What was it like starting out as a songwriter/singer?

Brandon: Starting out as a songwriter was kind of easy. I could always write poems so with that knowledge under my belt it was fun and easy.

Jchell: Does it feel like work for you when you write songs, or is it something that tends to come naturally?

Brandon: When I write songs it’s work because you have to brainstorm to make it work. It’s just like working a job. You have to come up with a plan for everything to flow right.

Jchell: Let’s talk about your song “Plus Size Diva Anthem” what or who inspired you to write it?

Brandon: Who inspired me to write the plus size diva anthem? Every woman who’s plus size inspired me because it was lack of celebration. You have men that celebrate plus women behind close doors but I felt that they needed to be celebrated out in the open. It was overdue.

Jchell: Did you feel there was a need for this anthem?

Brandon: Yes, I feel there was a need for the anthem to show plus women all over the world that they are equal.

Jchell: Do you plan on having an official music video for “Plus Size Diva Anthem”?

Brandon: I’m going to film the video in the 3rd quarter of 2016. I’m being featured in the movie plus size diva that’s being filmed in Atlanta so I’m going to link the video up with the movie.

Jchell: What feed back have you received since releasing your song?

Brandon: I’ve been getting so much positive feed back from all over the world. Numerous of people have contacted me saying how much the song made them feel better about themselves. I put my heart and respect in the song.

Jchell: Do you have any upcoming projects?

Brandon: Only project I have is the movie and video.

Jchell: Please leave one tip you think is invaluable for aspiring/beginner singer/songwriter to know?

Brandon: One tip I think is invaluable to songwriters etc. Take advantage of social media outlets. Push your work to the extreme because nobody can see it behind them.

Jchell: Would you like to add anything to your interview or give a shout out?

Brandon: I’d like to thank God for giving me motivation and allowing me to be humble. I’d like to thank Curvz Magazine for giving me a chance to be apart of them.
