This Issue: Horsepower At The River Camden Cruise-In Art’s Corvettes Winterize Your Ride Shadetree Street Rodders Halloween Run ‘64 Dodge Polara A Special Cause Help Wanted A Look Ahead

The second annual Horsepower At TheRiver was held in Carthege TN and was a nice way to wrap up the summer car show season. Only a short 45 minute drive from Nashville the drive through the hills with their changing leaves was a nice prelude to what was to come. Once I arrived I noticed the show was a bit on the small side with only around 60 cars but after all this was only the second year for this show and what was there was a nice variety from all eras. While at the show I

had a good time and enjoyed the opportunity talking with the owners. Everyone was extremely nice and seemed to appreciate the effort Music City Speed & Nastalgia put into providing the venue and in providing the venue for them to share their vehicles and passion of the custom auto culture with others. In the next few pages we will be sharing some of the gret pictures we took. As always we also provide a full photo album where we include even more.

Camden CruiseIn Located in the small town of Camden TN the Legend Cruisers Car Club holds their regular summer cruise-in each 4th Saturday of the month April-Oct in the town square. While the town may be small the turnout is not. With nearly 200 vehicles in attendance when we were there we were surprised to see cars that wrapped around the entire square. From an old Ford Model A to a new model Corvette, to

Hot Rods of all makes and models to muscle cars, to trucks and even a motorcycle. All were welcomed and made to feel that way. One of the things I particularly liked was the small town atmosphere and how everyone who was in attendance seemed to embody the type kindness that is associated with the positive stereotype small towns have. We hope you enjoy the pics on the next two pages.

So it has come to that time of year again. The temperature is dropping and nasty weather is on its way. Are you prepared? Is your car? Many people overlook that their car has changing needs to and as the weather changes we need to give them a little attention. First thing you will want to consider is your automobile’s oil. In the winter time oil is less responsive. This means that using an oil that remains too thick for too long increases the wear and potential for damage to your engine. In climates where the temperature drops below freezing it is often recommended to switch to a thinner less viscous -oil. For example if one normally uses 10W-30 it is often recommended to switch to 5W-30. This thinner oil will respond quicker and allow for coating of essential engine parts sooner. For those that have a little extra in their budget consider synthetic oil as it sticks to engine parts better, which can make the difference in wear especially during those hard start periods. This is also the time to make sure you are using a coolant that is at the appropriate ratio. For most vehicles 60% coolant 40% water is the right mix. Make sure also that the coolant being used contains ethylene glycol. Also make sure to clean up any spills that may happen and fix and leaks that may be present. While coolant keeps your car alive it can easily do the opposite to your pets. Since many coolants have a sweet taste pets often find it to be a nice treat.

So now your oil and coolant are in order it’s time to check your battery. Makes because a battery suffers from lost performance as the temperature decreases it is all that more important to insure that the cable connections are on good and tight. Also make sure it is well charged. Most auto stores will do a free test for you. Snow tires may or may not be needed depending on how much snow your region actually gets. Having the right tires for the conditions you face is critical to maintaining control on the road. Additionally make sure the tread that is on your tires is adequate and that the pressure is to recommended levels. Beyond your car you should also keep some emergency supplies at your home and/or office. De-icer is good to have in the event of being locked out due to frozen locks. Salt for frozen driveways and kitty litter for when you are stuck is also nice to have on hand. In your trunk you should also have an emergency kit that includes a blanket, flares, kitty litter, flashlight, spare tire, windup radio, a couple bottles of water, lighter and boots. In your glove box you should have a spare phone charger and ice scrapper. Also it is a good idea to have a stand alone GPS with you at all times. Whilemany phones include these now standalone GPS units often have the advantage of having their own battery source for when your phone does die as well as having points of interest such as gas stations, hotels and hospitals alreay marked.
