Imagine a world without competition. Imagine a world where every student that couldn't solve a simple math equation was accepted into an Ivy League school such as Harvard, or Yale. That wouldn't be very safe now, would it? The student that we were counting on to create the "next best" medical technology had no idea what they were doing because the only reason they got into the school was that the dean "didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings." Although this is a far stretch, this is the reality people like Satasky in "Children Need to Play, Not Compete" wish could come true in today's children's sports. Playing sports for 15 years of my life and competing competitively for 11 of them have done nothing but good for me. Obviously, there have been hardships such trying my best to juggle sports and my many other obligations without letting any of them fall beneath the other, but I did it, and I owe it all to the many years of playing. Although children's sports are becoming increasingly competitive, their parents are playing a major role in the risk of injury and other mental hardships, such as their child being discouraged if they don't make the cut. However, the values the children learn by playing competitively such as perseverance and the opportunities that they bring upon themselves through hard work outweigh the disadvantages. With playing a competitive sport at a young age comes great responsibility not only on the child but the parent's end as well. The underline problem

Competitive sports

Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to stop you from doing what you love because they think it's not useful or a waste. Some people say competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in. However, for many youth, competitive sportsplay a positive role. When kids play competitive sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also, they learn life lessons that they will need for the future.

One thing that is a positive outcome in sports is the overflowing happiness people get when they participate in competitive sports. One example is that "children who were involved in sports were more assertive, had greater confidence in their skills and physical appearance, and reported more positive feelings than those who didn't participate. (Merkal, Donna, Youth sport: positive and negative impact on young athletes, 201, May 31)." If children hold an extreme love for the sport they play, most children use that sport as an escape. Playing sports blows off steam and helps people relax. "Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research ,Exercise: 7 benefits of regular physical activity, 1998)." Playing sports can help bring families or other kids together to build strong bonds. "It appears that US children are healthy and happy as they engage in this traditional pastime, and families report higher levels of satisfaction if their children participate. (Macdonald, Brian, Kids in Sports, Part 5: Can sports help shy kids to make friends?, 2009)." A pat on the back from a parental figure is enough to keep kids going and doing their best. Because sports make children happier, they are more prone to keep playing which all in all makes children happier and it teaches kids to do what makes them happy. With suicide being the second biggest fatality for adolescents doing what makes them happy can be a life or death situation.

Correspondingly, fitness is a huge plus side of competitive sports. Diabetes is affecting around 8.6% of America's population. "More than 29 million American

Comparing the athletes to celebrities in the press releases also serves an additional purpose for the event. Davis (2013) argues that celebrities bring public visibility to an event, which in turn provides opportunities and status as well as financial rewards in the form of sponsorship. The number of well–known participants at a sport event has become part of the currency of the sport business as well as the general promotional culture (L'Etang 2013). That means that the Tour de Yorkshire team not only tried to persuade the audience of the worth of the event but also tried to encourage sponsorship at the same time. L'Etang (2013) states that reaching out to sponsors is one of the most important roles of sport public relations. That implies...show more content...

That includes content that shows the benefits of the event as demonstrated by the quote: "The Tour de Yorkshire is all about growing the visitor economy" (TDY Press Release 2). Furthermore even though the negative attitude of the audience might be a result of an experience with last year's Tour de France, the campaign team still connects the new event with the former one. However they highlight the connection only with regards to positive achievements such as the fact that last year's race generated "ВЈ100m (...) for the Yorkshire economy (TDY Press Release 3). Nevertheless Surma (2006) argues that praising good work in public relations stories often evokes a negative public response. According to her these stories instead of creating goodwill often lead to the opposite feeling of distrust and cynicism. It can therefore be assumed that if an individual already has an established negative response to the Tour de Yorkshire built upon personal values and experience it will not be changed by the arguments in the texts. More likely the reader will receive the message with distrust like Surma (2006)

Use your best persuasive techniques. Dear politician, You spend all our time trying to connect and benefit the older community, and I'm not saying that's a horrible thing. It's great that you are paying attention to people like that may need more help. But you shouldn't cut off your ties with the youth of the community. You need to start making a connection with the future voters that will essentially make the choices of this nation. You need to open the connection with the youth, make them interested in what's happening in their community before it happens and they get upset about it because you didn't let them know in the first place. Teens get anger at whatever is placed in front of them and what makes them even more upset is the fact that they might not had a choice in what's happening to them. If you let them know that they can make a choice they most likely will take the opportunity to do so. Firstly you need to make them aware of what's

"No more football today!" Those are the words us kids hear all the time, the words of rejection. Sports allow us to work as a team to accomplish a goal. If we win we learn how to win with class, if not we learn how to lose with dignity and how to get back up and try again. Some think that sports can lead to negative life skills and pressure. I am arguing that competitive sports are a essential element to the lives of our youth. It is clear that overall doing sports is better than not. Research shows that sports lead to healthy lifestyles and better attitudes and grades in school. Sports are also a pro because they are healthy, they have many life skills and because it helps the youth's perseverance and confidence in their current life and their future life. According to Kirk Mango, Sports Climate (2012), "Kids can develop coping skills while playing competitive sports, no matter how good an athlete becomes there will always be times when they "fail." It is what one does after a failure, how they cope, that will determine future positive outcomes." This tells us that, kids that play competitive sports can learn to accept succeeding and failing, which you deal with in everyday life. So in all sports have many pro's that can lead to a better life in our youth and their future to come.
