Self assessment is a process in which you examine yourself in attempt to discover and learn more about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, behaviors, attitudes and habits can be found during this process. You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and weaknesses. I plan on using this course to enhance my personal skills to become a better student and find success in earning my Bachelor of Arts degree at Ashford University in Social Science.Self Assessment is the first step in my successful future. I can remember in high school, it seemed like I was always one of the last students finished with a test. I was sometimes slower at completing a written paper or an assignment. I have discovered some interesting things I have noticed in myself before taking this course. For example, my learning style I have noticed is the visual learning style.

With this, I prefer to see and read information to full gain comprehension. If I forget the data, or not clearly understand it the first time read, I have the option of reading it over. I do not always trust myself to absorb all information the first time around. I take a lot of notes to look at. Notes help me remember even though I may not read the again, I can refer to them in my mind after writing them down. I am not sure if just anyone reading them would get anything out of it, but at least I know what they mean. I like to take my time with material, but am not always given the allotted time to do so. I also like to keep a written list of things to do to refer to. I am comfortable with my learning style, accepted it as my very own. I am not sure if changing it this late in life is such a good idea. I have got by this far, it must work out for me.

I have identified my personality style as being extroverted, one who becomes easily energized by others, and outwardly expressing thoughts as long as I am fully understanding context and material being discussed. If I have no idea what is being addressed, I am better of keeping quiet to save myself from

Now that I have completed the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth course Crafting the Essay, I feel I have tremendously grown as a writer. Even after submitting the first assignment, I looked back at a position paper I wrote for school that I received an A+ on, yet I saw several flaws I wished I had changed.

I feel I have significantly improved on my aspects of punctuation in grammar; the progressions Leslie suggested to me on said aspects synchronized with the grammar lessons taught in my English Honors class. I also feel that my vocabulary has developed extensively throughout the course, as well as my structural and organizational skills in my writing pieces. While I have radically improved as a writer throughout the...show more content...

If I stutter whatsoever or blatantly recognize a fault in my piece, I change it immediately. I also wish I had less work outside of the course (such as schoolwork, housework, social events, etc.) so I could have spent more time on my pieces for it. Some of my pieces were started only a few days before the assignment was due, and I wished I had had more time to edit and proofread. I have gained many insights I have gained about descriptive and narrative writing over this course. The one that I will take the most away from the course is my realization of my own tone and voice that I possess in my pieces and how to apply them in a narrative. I have also learned how to develop a tone and voice for others when I am writing a piece from the perspective of them. There are significant contrasts between characters, such as the wicked, selfish Amber and the kindhearted, welcoming Horace from Assignment 3, and I have learned how to establish nuances in dialogue and activity to individualize my characters. Although this insight may not apply to analytical writing, it certainly applies to persuasive writing. Perhaps if I wanted to persuade someone in a letter, this course helped me realize the tone I would need to establish in that letter to have him or her come to the realization that they should do what I would like. Lastly, revision drastically strengthens my drafts. As a writer, when I start Get

My Evaluation of the Cheesecake Factory

My most favorite of all time restaurants to dine at is The Cheesecake Factory. This restaurant is a famous corporate chain of restaurants that offers a widespread variety of all types of American dishes and of course specializes in the most amazing variety of the best tasting cheesecakes. I love the experience of dining at the Cheesecake factory because the atmosphere is so welcoming and the artwork on the ceilings make you feel very lavish, the food is great and the service is excellent. A particular visit last month proved to me that Cheesecake factory lives up to the expectations of its guests. The cheesecake factory is known for always giving generous portions of food for a ver...show more content... It came with croutons, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled chicken tossed in ceasar dressing in an enormous plate. I was so satisfied with my appetizer and the delicious complimentary bread that I had to order a salad and even that was too much for me to finish. Even though I was too full, I had to order one of their infamous cheesecakes after all. I ordered the Oreo Extreme which was a special edition cheesecake and it was big and delicious enough to feed my whole family.

Lastly the service at The Cheesecake Factory caught my attention. As soon as we walked through the door we heard, "How are you?

Welcome to the Cheesecake Factory". We were taken to our table by our hostess and then we were asked a drink order. Our drinks were received and the order was taken in a timely manner. The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and was very polite while taking our order. We were told our order would be put right in, and the drinks with the complimentary bread came in no time. Then the food arrived and we began to eat. As we ate our meal the server came over twice to check on us and get us refills. We asked for our check and it was received and paid very quickly. While dining at The Cheesecake Factory, the service was fantastic. The server was very attentive and took very good care of us. I enjoyed my experience impressively and will continue to come back here any chance I get. The Cheesecake Factory restaurant makes the best out of everyone's visit.

I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself "what have I learned this semester?" and "what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?". Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self–evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.

During this semester, I have strengthened my writing by trying new writing techniques, learning about purpose, and finding new ways of combating writers block. My first essay in this class was less focused then the essays I wrote later in...show more content...

I have struggled with writer's block with often. In the past, I've learned to take breaks while writing to help alleviate symptoms of writers block; however, during the semester I have learned to carry a pad of paper with me so that I can write down idea's while they are fresh in my mind. Writing down my thoughts has helped me avoid writers block because I have a list of thoughts about the subject before I have even started writing. When I struggle less to write it improves my essay's by decreasing my stress, this can be seen in my writing. I was afflicted with writer's block while trying to write both my compare and contrast essay and my description essay, this caused me a lot of stress and caused my essay to suffer. On the other hand, when I wrote my classify and divide essay I did not have to deal with writer's block. As a result the stress level was greatly decreased and the improvement is substantial.

Although my writing has made some good progress during the course of this semester, I still some things I need to learn in order to keep improving my writing. Grammar, writing in an active voice, and building my rewrite skills are three examples of skills I need to build upon to continue to improve me writing.

Even though my grammar has improved during the progression of this class, I still have a lot to learn before my knowledge of grammar can contribute to my writing. I have never had an aptitude for

Peer Evaluation

In order to 'learn how to learn' effectively, students must self evaluate. This is a process in which the learner can facilitate responsibility for their own learning and learn throughout their lives by applying theoretical concepts to real life situations (Arthur,1995) Peer evaluation is also useful in offering professional support and opens up the possibility for change in culture and/or alternative action (Meretoia et al 2000). Culture can be defined as the attitudes and general behaviour of a particular social group or profession (Collins, 2001 page 356) In response to the Mid Staffordshire investigation, The Royal College of Nursing described culture as a "nebulous concept" however a "powerful driver for staff behaviours" (RCN, 2013)...show more content...

It is easy to ask a student to reflect upon their own learning but do we as nurses do this regularly ourselves? It is difficult to evaluate ourselves and even more so others. Students focus upon the vocational skills of their mentor, meaning the skills which they actively observe their mentors practicing within their role. Once students learn to develop good interpersonal skills and build upon their professional confidence they can then build upon concepts for practice through regular self and peer evaluation. Promoting the practice of evaluation in the clinical environment is key to encouraging students and creating a positive culture. This can be achieved through discussion, spoke placement feedback, placement evaluations, patient caseload reviews, reflection, scenarios, role playing and learning from mistakes as thought provoking exercises. Bloom's Taxonomies assist the mentor and student by defining the logical flow of learning and helping us to evaluate which stage of learning we are currently and the stage we aim to

Performance Assessment Essay

Performance Assessment

Not since the development of the objective paper and pencil test early in the century has an assessment method hit the American educational scene with such force as has performance assessment methodology in the 1990s. Performance assessment relies on teacher observation and professional judgment to draw inferences about student achievement. The reasons for the intense interest in an assessment methodology can be summarized as follows: During the 1980s important new curriculum research and development efforts at school district, state, national and university levels began to provide new insights into the complexity of some of our most valued achievement targets. We came to understand the multidimensionality ...show more content...

The purpose of this digest is to provide a summary of those attributes of sound assessments and the rules of evidence for using them well. The various ways the reader might take advantage of this information also are detailed.

THE BASIC METHODOLOGY

The basic ingredients of a performance assessment may be described in three parts (Stiggins, 1984): (1) the specification of a performance to be evaluated, (2) the development of exercises or tasks used to elicit that performance and (3) the design of a scoring and recording scheme for results. Each contains sub– elements within it. For example, in defining the performance to be evaluated, assessment developers must decide where or how evidence of academic proficiency will manifest itself. Is the examinee to demonstrate the ability to reason effectively, carry out other skills proficiently or create a tangible product? Next, the developer must analyze skills or products to identify performance criteria upon which to judge achievement. This requires the identification of the critical elements of performance that come together to make it sound or effective. In addition, performance assessors must define each criterion and articulate the range of achievement that any particular examinee's work might reflect, from outstanding to very poor performance. And finally, users can contribute immensely to student academic

Performance Evaluation Essay

There is a purpose in doing performance evaluations, in which it helps management make general human resource decisions. Performance evaluations provide input to help make important decisions such as promotions, transfers and even terminations. Performance evaluation can help to see who will get merit pay increases and other rewards. In the scenario, I have three concerns about the evaluation that our manager is using. When using individual task outcome; you could be evaluated on such things as the quantity produced, the scrap generated in production, and the cost per unit. Evaluating behavior, you would look at how the employee is helping other coworkers, making suggestions for improve the work environment, and volunteering for additional duties. The behavior is the focus on interaction towards others and the organization. Evaluating traits are a little more trickery than the other two because it is farthest removed from the actual performance of the job. When looking at traits, you look to see if the person has a respectful attitude, do they show confidence in their job, are they dependable, and are they always busy, or do they possess a wealth of experience. These traits are routinely used as criteria for assessing an employee's level of performance. When using a method like the 360–degree to give a performance evaluation has a great advantage for everyone. It helps give the employees in an organization a sense of participating in the process of the person evaluation. By including coworkers, customers, and subordinates; it allows a more accurate reading on the employee's evaluation. I believe that my writing has grown a lot with in this first semester of college. I was the type of person in college that would write a paper, and not review it, and still turn it in. I would usually receive good grades, but that was on the high school level. Those types of under–developed papers do not receive good grades in college. On a paper that I may have turned in to one of my high school teachers would have got me a B, yet if I turn around and use that same paper now, I would receive no more than a D. That is what I believe should happen at this level in the game. You as an individual must recognize your own mistakes, and correct them on your own. In high school many of my teacher's would grade a ...show more content...

For the most part many Religion, and History teachers' don't really focus on the grammar of the paper, but it's content. With me having this English class I have taking it upon my self to try to use correct punctuation, and sentence structures. However, I am not perfect in either one of these aspect of writings I have seen improvement. For example, on my first paper I received a 71% with many red marks, and on my second paper I got a 75% which still a lot of red marks, and on my third paper I earned a 85%. So, it is obvious to see that my papers have been improving. So I have made improvements over the semester

The biggest problem that I have in writing is grammar. This is the worst part of my writing, and it really doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I find it very hard to know when to use commas to prevent run on sentences. I usually end up putting the commas in places not needed, or don't place them where they are needed. This is one of the things that I really have never taken the time out to notice, and probably should. The second flaw in my writing is my vocabulary. I don't really have a large vocabulary because I am a kid who has read few books. My mother always tells me that reading is power, and that's how you build a large and good vocabulary.

My plans for improving my writing is to first proof read my papers more than once before turning them in for a
