he Pakistan International Airline (PIA) deposited three pending monthly instalments of Rs70.00million on 14th of February 2017 into the account of Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad. The MCC Islamabad has been corresponding with the Chairman PIA to pay its dues so that colletorate
can meet its assigned target of third quarter of Financial Year 2016-17. According to Shahid Jan, Deputy Collector Customs Air Freight Unit (AFU) Islamabad, it is a major recovery deposited into the account of the MCC Islamabad. From the total amount of Rs70.00million, the AFU recovered Rs50.00million Sales Tax whereas Rs16.00million was collected under the head of Federal Excise Duty (FED) and rest of the Rs04.00million was collected under the head of

Customs Duty. Shahid Jan said that in year of 2016 the PIA has been given notice for immediate deposit of Rs1.173billion on three wet leased aircrafts imported by the PIA at the Islamabad International Airport in 2013, against which PIA has only paid Rs310million till 2016 in violation of the decision of the ECC taken in 2013, according to which PIA was required to deposit the amount of Rs1.4billion in monthly instalements but it has not been deposited since the past three months.
