SEAFIELD A photographic adventure at 35mm per hour
Seafield
Seafield is a coastal strip situated on the Firth of Forth between Leith and Portobello in north-east Edinburgh, Scotland. An industrial area blighted by crime, desolation, arson attacks, unidentified bodies floating close to the shore, Swans breeding in sewage slurry and a stench so strong “it wakes people up”. One brisk winter’s day at the beginning of 2017, seven people under the disinterested eye of un-fine art photographer Ian Allaway, decided to see and experience for themselves the grim wonders of a haunting relic of an industrial age condemned to history. All armed with a 35mm camera, one roll of Tri-X400 black and white film, they recorded a narrative of cultural/social decline and despondency. The group hand developed and printed all their work to become part of the resurgent art of analogue photography. All works copyrighted by, Ânia Ferreira, Ana Moraes, Ailean Beaton, Dechlan Nicholson, Antero Duarte, Frieda Smith, Geoffrey James Saunders. Special thanks to Emily Chip for the inspiration and Emma Findlow for being there.
