id you know that prostate cancer affects one in eight men? SKY Sport’s presenter, Jeff Stelling visited more than 30 football clubs, completing 10 marathons over 10 days from 21 to 30 March 2016 on his Men United March, raising money and awareness for prostate cancer. He was joined on each leg of the journey by a select band of Men United supporters and his mates from Soccer Saturday, including Matt Le Tissier, Chris Kamara, Paul Merson, and Charlie Nicholas. Jeff started the march in his home town of Hartlepool at the Victoria ground then via Middlesbrough’s Riverside to finish the first leg at Marske United’s ground, the GER Stadium on March 21st. Walking with him on this first leg was Marske United’s own Commercial Manager, Peter Collinson, together with ex Chelsea and England midfielder Ray Wilkins, Hartlepool Utd’s manager Craig Hignett and Pools chief executive Russ Green, who walked the whole distance with Jeff, finishing at Wembley Stadium on 30 March. The walkers arrived at the GER Stadium around 6pm to be greeted by lots of supporters who applauded them as they approached the ground. Peter told Coastal View: “The idea of the march is not just about raising money for Prostate Cancer UK but to raise awareness of this disease which affects one in eight men. The awareness is as important as the money.” Jeff said: “The statistic relating to prostate cancer are shocking as one man dies every hour

from this disease. “Recently I was sitting in the stand at Victoria Park, home of my beloved Hartlepool United. The stand holds 1,000 people, which means 125 of those 1,000 people are likely to get prostate cancer at some point during their lives. So we need to do everything we can do to beat prostate cancer.” Peter said: “If I can help just one person by raising awareness of this terrible disease it would all be worth it, but we need to get the word out there that if anyone shows any of the symptoms they must go and seek medical advice immediately. “I would like to thank Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council, Marske Brass Band, Marske Bowls, Marske Utd and their supporters and sponsors for their support. With the help of Coastal View and other publicity which has enabled us to get the word out there I am hoping that men who are over 50 or at risk will go and get the checks done as it may save their life.” To date Peter has raised £2000 and it’s not too late to donate.
