T

he Educational Services Office (ESO) is offering classes to help prepare Sailors and Marines to take College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams. CLEP exams provide full college credit in a given subject at participating schools by demonstrating that the test taker has an adequate knowledge of a subject.

“Right now we’re kind of at a lull, so it’s good for people to be able to study, to have an interactive classroom situation where they can work on math or talk about sociology,” said Lt. j.g. Sarah Tyree, one of the tutors. The exams themselves aren’t given on board Nimitz. “They can only be done in port,” said Lt. j.g. Timothy Creen,

who helped organize the effort to find tutors for the classes. “The Navy College Office in Everett and San Diego both offer these tests. But they do require some studying.” Creen, who helped find volunteers to lead the classes, said that passing the tests is an achievable goal. “They’re not easy, but they’re not designed to be so hard that you Continued on page 3
