The Choreographers Sophie Amundson was born in Los Angeles and graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in 2018. She is a senior dance major. Sophie has wanted to be a choreographer since she was three years old and is grateful for this experience. She would like to thank her cast for their hard work and patience as they navigated this semester to create a piece to be proud of. Lauryn Crowell is a junior in the School of Dance at George Mason University. She graduated high school from the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham, Alabama. She has had the opportunity to work alongside Susan Shields, as her choreographer's assistant, in the resetting of “Sunlit Song.” Lauryn has always had a passion for choreographing and is ecstatic to share the premiere of her piece, “Vivarium.” Georgia Dahill-Fuchel is a senior from New York City where she attended Ballet Hispanico as well as Fiorello LaGuardia High School for Music, Art and the Performing Arts. She has had the pleasure of attending summer intensives at many wonderful establishments such as Boston Conservatory, Bounce!, and Alvin Ailey. She has had the privilege of participating in the George Mason School of Dance’s annual Gala in Hope Boykin’s piece entitled “Running to and Toward”. Georgia would like to thank her incredible mentors Karen Reedy and Roger Jeffrey for their support and insightful feedback. She would also like to shower her cast with gratitude for their generosity of spirit, bravery, vulnerability, and insane talent during this process. Creating the music and choreography for this piece was an absolute privilege! Chaslyn Donovan was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and graduated in 2018. Chaslyn is a senior at George Mason University pursuing a BFA in Dance and a minor in Arts Management. She has previously been in residency with and performed works by notable choreographers such as Nacho Duato, Lucinda Childs, Micaela Taylor, Kyle Abraham, Rafael Bonachela, and Hope Boykin. As she heads into her final semester as an undergraduate student, Chaslyn looks forward to taking advantage of every opportunity she is given and cherishing the rest of her time at Mason.
The Choreographers (continued) Starla Edwards was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts for Dance and graduated in 2018. Starla is currently a senior at Mason pursuing a BFA in Dance with an Arts Management minor. During her time in the School of Dance, she has worked with multiple guest artists and performed choreography by Andonis Foniadikis, Lucinda Childs, Kyle Abraham, Hope Boykin, and Camille A Brown. Starla will graduate in the Spring and will continue pursuing dance as a professional career postgraduation. She is looking forward to enjoying the rest of her time at Mason and is incredibly grateful for her experience here. Annabel Kaplan is a junior BFA dance major from Portland, Oregon. She began dancing at the age of four at a small studio in Portland called Classical Ballet Academy. Annabel continued training at Classical Ballet Academy, under the direction of Sarah Rigles, throughout high school. She has been lucky enough to spend her summers training at institutions such as Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Arts Umbrella Dance, Paul Taylor American Modern Dance Company, Northwest Dance Project, and Perry Mansfield. While at Mason, Annabel has had the opportunity to perform in several student choreographed works and is so excited to be presenting her choreography for the first time this evening! Will Pettigrew is originally from South Orange, New Jersey where he graduated from Columbia High School. He attended New Jersey Dance Theater Ensemble where he trained under the direction of Nancy Turano. Now as a senior at George Mason University, he is pursuing a BFA in dance. He has had the honor of learning and performing pieces by Loni Landon, Rafael Bonachela, Hope Boykin, and Camille Brown. He is so honored to have his work performed on the Merchant Theater stage and is excited to spend his last 2 semesters dancing with his friends. Rosa Allegra Wolff is a junior at the George Mason School of Dance. Movement has been an integral part of her life ever since she was three years old. Rosa started her training at the Lydia Johnson Dance School and Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts, where she was a member of the Performance Workshop Ensemble. She has completed intensive programs with Alonzo King LINES Ballet, the Gibney Company, GALLIM, and VIM VIGOR. Rosa is also a company apprentice at the Alma Dance company based in NYC. Rosa is interested in using dance to ask questions, to learn, and to bring people together. She is elated to show her work in tonight’s show.
