THE OKEE DOKEE BROTHERS

Introducing themselves: Our real names are Joe and Justin. We’re not really brothers, but we’ve known each other since we were three years old! We grew up together in Denver, Colorado, and we were always exploring the outdoors. Whether it was rafting down the neighborhood creek, taking long bike rides into the country, or discovering hiking trails through the Rocky Mountains, we loved taking adventures. Now, as The Okee Dokee Brothers, we’re sharing our love of the outdoors through the music we make. So far, we have released three adventure albums: 2013 GRAMMY-winner for Best Children’s Album Can You Canoe?: A Mississippi River Adventure; Through the Woods: An Appalachian Adventure; and Saddle Up: A Western Adventure. An Adventure Album is a collection of songs that are directly inspired by a particular place or experience. There’s an old saying that goes something like “write about what you know.” We decided that the best way to write a collection of songs about an adventure is to actually have that adventure in real life! Of course, you don’t have to canoe down a river or ride through the mountains to find inspiration for your own adventures. You can start by simply exploring the world around you – the world that you know. Go to a park or take a walk through your neighborhood. An adventure can be anywhere! More about Joe and Justin: Joe and Justin record and perform family music with a goal to inspire children and their parents to step outside and get creative (as you can tell from their own introduction!). They have put their passion for the outdoors at the heart of their Americana Folk music and believe this can motivate kids to gain a greater respect for the natural world, their communities, and themselves. They are five-time GRAMMY nominees and five-time Parents’ Choice Award winners, garnering praise from NPR’s All Things Considered, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and many others. Enjoy exploring their website, okeedokee.org, for their adventure blogs and photos taken on their adventures. There is also information about all of their albums and books, and a “Study Guide” about folk music, various instruments, and more – all geared towards families and children. “Listening to an Okee Dokee Brothers album feels like stumbling out of the woods and finding some old friends strumming instruments around a campfire… Each album has at least one song that makes me cry and another that makes me laugh out loud.” (Outside Magazine) We hope your Okee Dokee Brothers concert experience is the same!
