MODERNISM
Modernism Week’s annual 11day festival features more than 350 events, including the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale, tours of iconic homes in more than 30 neighborhoods, and the popular Signature Home Tour on both weekends. Also offered are picturesque double-decker bus tours that take travelers through some of the most historic and signature locations that embody Palm Springs.
This open-air double decker bus tour is offered consistently over the course of each Modernism Week, the Premier Double Decker Architecture Bus Tour continues to be a sellout event on most days, and one of the most popular offerings during Modernism Week. If you’re taking part in Modernism Week for the first time, the Architecture Bus Tour is a great primer to get you familiar with some of the different neighborhoods, and the stories behind some of the more notable buildings around Palm Springs.
Stories behind the homes, the histories of some of the more famous residents— like Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms Estate, and
Marilyn Monroe’s bungalow—all have the added advantage of some height to catch a further glimpse over the fence. Tourists can even sneak a peek at Richard Neutra’s Kaufman House; seeing the stones and textures and concretes is lots of fun from a new vantage point from the bus.
Elvis Presley’s Honeymoon Hideaway estate, also known as The House of Tomorrow, is prominently featured on the tour and was originally owned by Robert Alexander who is also the architect responsible for the home’s design. Located at the bottom of the San Jacinto Mountains, the Honeymoon Hideaway is a 5,000 square foot home and has three levels, four bedrooms, and five bathrooms. Located at 1350 Ladera Circle in Palms Springs, California, this house can hold up to 180 guests at a time. The home has a large, pentagon shaped pool at the back of the house, hidden by trees and other foliage surrounding the property. Other outdoor features include a beautifully kept garden, a
charming waterfall fixture, a fruit orchard, and even a tennis court. The entire house was skillfully restored in the 1990’s with the design remaining true to its 1960’s flare. As an added bonus, from the back of the house, you can see Marylin Monroe’s former dwelling.
Another notable feature of the architecture tour is the Twin Palms, also known as the Frank Sinatra House, at 1148 East Alejo Rd. This is a mid-century modern house in the Movie Colony–El Mirador neighborhood, designed by E. Stewart Williams, to a commission from American singer and actor Frank Sinatra. The 4,500 square-foot, four-bedroom, seven-bath estate is best known for its piano-shaped swimming pool, and the pool house comes equipped with a kitchenette and “his and hers” with cabana showers. The Twin Palms Frank Sinatra estate compound includes a canopy skylight entryway past the pool to the house, and the great room’s huge sliding glass doors open up to an expansive patio. Tall floor-to-ceiling windows create an open

panoramic feel to the rooms, and Sinatra designed his bedroom in a separate wing in order “to get away from it all, but not too far away.”
The residence has been completely restored with vintage designer furnishings and features. It includes a 1950’s recording system installed by Valentino Electronics in Hollywood, similar to the one Frank used to record songs at Twin Palms. The snow-white kitchen is the original design but upgraded with Viking appliances and St. Charles cabinetry. And of course, a property-wide sound system belts out Sinatra tunes upon request. Fun memorabilia and personal photos on the walls highlight Sinatra’s career and his life in the desert.
Modernism Week is a community supported nonprofit dedicated to education, preservation and appreciation of modernist architecture and design in Palm Springs. By taking part in the Architecture Tours by Modernism Week, guests are not only choosing the best, they are helping to preserve and promote modern architecture for generations to come.

Opportunity or CIELO Fund at the Inland Empire Community Foundation for a grant. The application was accepted and $10,000 was awarded.
Read With Me Volunteer Programs began in 2004 by Roberta and Clay Klein when they found out from the Coachella Valley School District that local schools needed English-speaking role models to help students improve their English language skills.
Its mission evolved to help disadvantaged children who live in poverty and come from homes where no English is spoken to learn to read and speak English. All research on the effectiveness of education indicates that if a child is not reading at grade level by third grade, they will drop out of high school and
fail to succeed at work, and often get in trouble and wind up in prison.
It is now 2023 and Read With Me Volunteers recruits, trains and mobilizes nearly 700 active retired volunteer tutors at 15 schools in the Coachella Valley. In concert with senior volunteers, dedicated teachers in the classroom and community sponsors such as churches, clubs, and senior citizen centers, Read With Me Volunteer Programs tutors more than 4,200 children and engages more than 10,000 children a year to help them with English language acquisition and provide them with books.
When Read With Me Volunteers received a request to start their proven tutoring program at Cathedral City’s Agua Caliente Elementary School, they turned to the Cultivating Inland Empire Latino
“When the opportunity came up to apply for a grant through CIELO, we knew it would be a perfect fit,” said President and Founder Roberta Klein. “95% of the students at Agua Caliente Elementary School in Cathedral City are Latino. Only 26% score at or above reading at grade level. With the $10,000 grant from CIELO, we will be able to provide 25-30 volunteers to tutor children from lowincome families who are having difficulty with reading and comprehending English.”

PART 2
What is Advanced Disaster Recovery (ADR) Backup?
A disaster happens when a catastrophic event occurs that has a negative impact on your organization and/or data. The incident might be natural, such as an earthquake, flood, or fire destroying a data storage location. A disaster can also be caused by humans, such as an accident or worse a ransomware attack. Disaster recovery is the method through which the data is restored to a previous backup. In addition, enterprises are increasingly putting aside a complete backup of whole environments — whether on-premises or in the public cloud — to guarantee that all of the data can be made available immediately in the case of a disaster.
Why Do You Need a Disaster Recovery and Backup Plan?
Data is critical to all sorts and sizes of organizations. A solid data backup and disaster recovery strategy is recommended as it gives a roadmap for those in control in a disaster scenario to know who is doing what and in what order to restore operational functionality. Your disaster recovery plan should encompass both people and procedures, and it should serve as a roadmap for employees to follow while they restore your critical data. A solid data backup and disaster recovery plan should also guarantee that your data is always protected – both during and after it is moved from day-to-day, production systems for short- and long-term storage. With an optimal backup and disaster recovery plan, you’ll always have your data at your fingertips if you need it.
Consider what would happen if the data required to run your organization, department, or agency was unavailable for even a few minutes, many alone hours, days, or weeks.
Customers would be dissatisfied or in the event of ransomware, your entire organization might be destroyed. All of these scenarios are avoided with effective backup and recovery of sensitive data.
How to select the best backup plan
You must assess several important factors before choosing the type of backup you should choose. According to the importance of the data, organizations frequently combine several data backup strategies. The SLAs that apply to an application, in terms of data access and availability, recovery time targets, and recovery point objectives, should guide a backup plan.
Establishing a backup plan
The majority of organizations develop a backup policy to direct the types and techniques of data protection they use and guarantee that crucial organizational data is constantly and routinely backed up. The backup strategy also generates a checklist that IT can keep track of and adhere to since that department is in charge of protecting all of the organization’s important data. A backup policy should contain a backup schedule. The policies are written so that others can back up and restore data if the primary backup administrator is not accessible.
Data retention rules are frequently included in backup policies, particularly for an organization
in regulated industries. Predefined data retention rules might result in the automated deletion or transfer of data to different media once it has been stored for a certain period of time. Individual users, departments, and file types can all have their own data retention policies.
Because backed-up data is useless if it cannot be recovered when needed, backup policies need to put greater emphasis on recovery than on actual backup. The majority of backup plans used to be focused on moving data to and from tape. Today, the majority of data is backed up to a local backup drive or a public cloud solution are often used. Each target has a unique method for transporting data to and from the disc, the cloud, or tape, and the policy should take this into consideration. Additionally, backup processes might change based on the application; for instance, a database may need a different approach than a file server.
Modern Backup and Recovery Approach
The fact that data often resides in a variety of locations, including on-premises systems, clouds, and the edge, presents the single largest problem when attempting to implement an organizationwide backup and recovery plan. The time that could be spent on organizational innovation is lost managing and maintaining this disconnected data due to the massive data fragmentation caused by fragmented hardware and software and insufficient visibility into the organization’s data.
Acronis Cyber Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) is a backup and recovery solution that converges various point products and backs up data on a single multi-cloud data platform whether it is stored on-premise, at the edge, or in the public cloud. Customer satisfaction is the most crucial part of any organization since it leads to more sales, increased reputation, and “word of mouth” referrals. That is why Acronis is proud to be named a Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice for
BY DENNIS SHELLY
Cyber Disaster Recovery as a Service in October 2019.
To Conclude
To ensure your critical and important data is safe, you must follow a plan, which requires you to store your data in three locations, on two types of storage, with one copy saved off-site. Disk-to-diskto-tape (D2D2T) and disk-to-disk-to-cloud (D2D2C) solutions are excellent instances of this 3-2-1 method. You backup your data to your central network storage and then transfer that backup to tape or off-site cloud storage with these.
The survival of your organization is dependent on the survival of your organizational data. Define your organization’s objectives — the backup scope, RPOs, and RTOs — before implementing a reliable data backup plan. Then, install appropriate solutions, provision storage or a combination of storage, and execute and monitor backups. Only then can you be confident that your organization will be able to continue operating securely even if unforeseen situations occur.
Backing up your critical data on a regular basis can be a confusing and daunting task, especially when you have other things to focus on. EggHead IT and our data backup and disaster recovery eggsperts are here to help and answer any questions you may have.

“I’m not selling out, I’m cashing in, every game was a waiting game, every fuck was a flying fuck, every pause was a pregnant pause, I’m not selling out, I’m cashing in.
That’s Dean Wareham splitting hairs on “Cashing In,” from his new solo album, I Have Nothing To Say To The Mayor Of L.A.
Dean has been creating memorable music professionally for 35 years now. First as frontman for two influential Post-Punk bands, Galaxie 500 and Luna, and most recently as a solo artist.
He was born in Wellington, New Zealand, the Wareham family spent time in Sydney, Australia, before relocating to New York City in 1977 when he was 14. Although the city was mired in crime, decadence and decay, the music scene was thriving, thanks to the advent of Punk Rock.
Dean attended Harvard and it was there that he connected with bassist Naomi Yang and drummer Damon Krukowski. Named after a friend’s vintage Galaxie 500 Ford, the nascent trio gigged around Boston and NYC. Demos soon followed and their debut, Today, in 1988, via the tiny Aurora label.
Galaxie 500’s lo-fi Psychedelic sound was heavily influenced by 60s/70s progenitors like The Velvet Underground and Modern Lovers as well as the British band, Spaceman 3. Following their debut, they released two more gems, 1989’s On Fire and 1990’s This Is Our Music. But just as the band began to gain momentum, they broke up.
Dean persevered, forming Luna in 1991. An indie “supergroup” of sorts, it featured former Chills bassist Jason Harwood and exFeelies drummer Stanley Demenski. In the beginning, Stanley didn’t have his own drum kit, so he (permanently) borrowed one from his pal, Conan O’ Brien.
Preceding Luna’s formation, Dean had already signed a deal with Elektra and their first album Lunapark, was released in 1992. The Velvets continued to be touchstones along pioneering NYC Punks Television (R.I.P. Tom Verlaine). Drafting off the blueprint created by those two iconic bands, Luna began to expand their sonic horizons.
By Bewitched, released in 1994, the trio became a four-piece with the edition of second guitarist, Sean Eden. Their watershed third record, Penthouse, landed a year later. It featured an astute version of Serge Gainsbourg’s “Bonnie And Clyde.” Rolling Stone was so smitten they declared it one of the essential albums of the ‘90s.
The band finished out the 20th century with 1997’s Pup Tent and 1999’s Days Of Our Nights. Jason Harwood left in 2000 and was replaced by Britta Phillips. A live album, Luna Live and two more studio efforts, Romantica and Rendezvous were released before Luna called it a day in 2005.
By that time, Britta and Dean had married and released two albums, L’Avventura and Back Numbers, in 2002 and 2007, respectively. Both efforts were produced by legendary producer Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T-Rex and Thin Lizzy). Following Luna’s demise, Dean kept a relatively low profile, touring sporadically and, along with Britta, composing the score for Noah Baumbach’s breakthrough film, The Squid & The Whale. He wrote a memoir, Black Postcards and in 2014, he released his self-titled solo debut, produced by My Morning Jacket’s Jim James.
In 2015, Luna reconvened, launched a tour and two years later, recorded their A Sentimental Education LP and an follow-up EP,
DEAN WAREHAM
A Place Of Greater Safety. He sorta resumed his solo career in 2018, with the release of a collection of Western-themed songs entitled Dean Wareham Vs Chevel Sombre, which was a collaboration with singer-songwriter, Cheva Sombre. Dean and Britta hunkered down during the pandemic and created Quarantine Tapes. Now Dean has returned with his third solo effort, I Have Nothing To Say To The Mayor Of L.A.
The record is off to a tentative start with “The Past Is Our Plaything. Wispy guitar chords flank Dean’s sing-song vocals on the opening verse. As the arrangement slowly accelerates, sinewy riffs, thrumming bass, flatulent keys and a kick-drum beat are folded into the mix. Lyrics shapeshift from wistful; “Tonight I am playing my three-thirty-five, while gazing at your photograph, we’re living inside a beautiful dream, a winter where memory sleeps…” to whimsical; “I challenged myself to a duel yesterday, I carried a lock of your hair, I insulted myself, I counted to twelve, we fired shots in the air, it’s a gay parade, above my pay grade, I feel like we’ve taken first prize.”
A twangy, reverb-drenched guitar solo shivers on the break, but Dean’s demeanor remains deadpan from start to finish.
Part of “The Past…” was influenced by The Man In The Red Coat, by Julian Barnes, who noted “in writing historical accounts, you can’t really ever know the whole truth. The past cannot talk to you, so you have to invent it.” That opened the door for Dean to add his own spin to actual events. Take “Robin & Richard, a tart homage to the band’s Italian tour manager and driver. The song is powered by iridescent guitars dust up against plucky bass lines and a snapback beat. Slightly querulous lyrics limn a less glamorous life on the road; “I’m living on greenies, and Aperol spritz, I stay at La Quinta and never the Ritz, they’ve taken my girl. I been on a diet, my trousers won’t fit.” The shaggy, slightly countrified melody intensifies on the break when he unspools a ragged, Spaghetti-Western flavored solo.
Meanwhile, “The Last Word” delves into the life of Jenny Julia Eleanor Marx, the British-born, activist daughter of socialistrevolutionary, Karl Marx. Flickering guitar riffs connect with vroom-y keys, tensile bass and a beat so taut, you could bounce a quarter off it. Conversational lyrics sketch out saga of misplaced trust and betrayal; “I fell in love with a Communist cad, a free union, he drove me mad.” When she confronts her longtime partner, Edward Aveling, who had secretly married someone else a year earlier, he attempts to justify his actions; “I told you lies but I never deceived you, you only heard what you wanted to hear.” Men. Sheesh. Fed up, she opts out; “Send for the chemist, send for the maid, my time has come, I’m not afraid.” On the break cascading guitar notes split the difference between Bouzouki and Balalaika, droning cello, prickly keys and shuddery strings mirror her despair. After discovering his staggering, perfidies, Eleanor took her own life in 1888.
Then there’s “Red Hollywood,” which speaks to the shame of HUAC and the Communist which hunts, by focusing on the bleak circumstances for John Garfield (ne’ Jacob Julius Garfinkle). He was talented actor and movie star who refused to name names. A spare, almost bare-bones arrangement of meandering guitar, willowy woodwinds, handclaps and slapdash percussion cocoon the Haiku-ish lyrics that chart his downfall; “Put him on the grey list, put him on the black, my tender comrades, gonna break your back.”
An early proponent of Stanislavski’s “Method” acting style, he was an inspiration to younger actors like Marlon Brando and James Dean. He defiantly stood his ground and held on to his integrity; “The honors are ironic, the compliments are paid, but I can’t write a word, and I can’t get laid/I’m so tired of living in the shadows, living this way, night and day.” Sadly he was blacklisted from the movie industry and he died of a heart attack at age 39.
On a record packed with superlative tracks,
BY ELENI P. AUSTIN
two stand out, “Just As Much As It Was Worth” and the aforementioned Cashing In. On “Just As Much…” the melody and arrangement straddles the line between ‘60s Exotica and modal mysticism. Slithery guitars lattice swirly keys, shivery bass and a thwocky backbeat. Thick as molasses, Dean slowly unfurls an existential narrative before he gets to the point; “And was it worth it? And did it hurt? Just as much, as much as it was worth?/Yes it was worth it, and yes it hurt, just as much as it was worth.”
“Cashing In, is a rueful treatise on the peaks and valleys of the recording industry. Splayed acoustic chords are matched by painterly keys, angular bass and a propulsive beat. The opening verse touches on the fickle nature of the biz; “I used to think we were on the brink, I could just watch my fortunes grow, I used to think our ship was coming in…. all of my chords were minor chords, no major sixths, or B-diminished, all my rewards are just rewards, I’m not selling out, I’m cashing in.” The swelling (synthesized?) strings that underscore each revelation, add a Jimmy Webb patina, almost echoing the humble grandeur of songs like “Wichita Lineman” and “By The Time I Get To Phoenix.”
The album includes a couple of trenchant, slightly obscure covers. First up is the woozy Psychedelia of Lazy Smoke’s “Under Skys,” followed by Scott Walker’s beatific groover, “Duchess.” Finally, the record takes an overly politically turn with “Corridors Of Power” and Why Are We In Vietnam?”
The former opens with spiraling guitars, hypnotic keys, spectral bass and a chugging rhythm. Surf guitar riffs squiggle and slash, acting as a wordless Greek chorus for Dean’s mounting indignation. Suddenly the arrangement shapeshifts, locking into a lo-fi shuffle, before the song shudders to a halt.
The latter, which closes the album, weds feathery guitar chords, throbby bass lines, and a wash of keys to a hi-hat kick. Lyrics take the bloated, military industrial complex to task, questioning the efficacy of American troops stationed across the globe; “Why are we in Tripoli? Why are we in Baghdad….they don’t know the score, or what we’re fighting for, they don’t like us anymore.” He also takes aim at his own inertia; “Why are we in Beverly Hills? Why are we at Hooters? Why are we in Echo Park? We need to stop the looters.” Pointillist guitar notes quickly dart across the break before cascading riffs usher the album to a close.
This is a solo record in name only. While Dean handled lead vocals and guitar, longtime collaborators like Roger Brogan played drums, Britta Phillips added bass and backing vocals and producer Jason Quever provided guitar, organ, cello and drums.
From Galaxie 500 to Luna to his solo music, Dean Wareham has charted a course that honors his musical influences and manages to expand his horizons, creating new sonic landscapes. Coming off lockdown and the pandemic, I Have Nothing To Say To The Mayor Of L.A. is equal parts insular and expansive.

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA
This spectacular collection of space photographs combines breathtaking digitalized images from the historic Mariner, Viking and Voyager probes with stunning photographs from the Apollo lunar missions, and ground-based observatories.
Gathered from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the California Institute of Technology, the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh, and the Hansen Planetarium, this awesome display of cosmic spectacles is a journey to the early days of the cosmos. The latest and most ambitious in a string of space observatories is the James Webb Space Telescope, launched in late December of 2021. The JWST is expected to allow us to see
even farther into the birth of the universe. Simply put, the main difference between galaxies and nebulae are an extreme difference in size, as well as their basic structure. A nebula is a cloud of dust and
gas, usually tens to hundreds of light years across. A galaxy is much larger — usually thousands to hundreds of thousands of light years across. Nebulae are one of the many things that galaxies are made of, along with

CHEF TANYA’S KITCHEN
BY DANIEL PARIS PAMPEREDPALATE
My favorite sandwiches are the Bahn Mi & You and El Cubano. The Bahn Mi & You is made with seared garlic chili tofu, pickled daikon and carrot, cucumber, jalapeno pickles, cilantro, mint, basil, and spicy mayo on a toasted French roll. The El Cubano has slow-roasted warm citrus and garlic seitan, mayo, mustard, cabbage, tomato, pickles, and onion on a toasted torpedo.
Salads are artfully composed dishes combining nuts, lettuces, sprouts, avocados, fruits, herbs, and grains.
Chef Tanya has devoted her life to healthy vegetarian cuisine. While in college, she experimented with processes to make seitan and fresh cultured tempeh. Naturally flavored and marinated seitan (say-tan) is made from
wheat gluten protein. Seitan easily assumes different flavors and textures and can mimic various types of meat. Chef Tanya artfully incorporates seitan into many flavorful entrees and sandwiches offered at her restaurants. Soy-based tempeh is available
for those with gluten allergies. Tempeh is more of a ground meat alternative and is used in Tanya’s salads, wraps, and stir-fried entrees. Chef Tanya is a wizard when pairing her house made dressing and sauces with fresh veggies, nuts, and breads.
Soups are full flavored and use Heirloom Rancho Gordo beans. Sides such as the potato salad, egg (less) salad, tuna (less) salad have unique flavor profiles.
The fries are excellent and paired with multiple dipping sauces.
The Palm Desert Branch’s recently expanded space includes baked goods, lots of ready-made takeout items, and additional curiosities. Drinks include freshly made Agua Fresca, iced teas, and fresh brewed coffees.
A key to enjoying Chef Tanya’s Kitchens’ cuisine is to not compare it to meat-centric dishes and savor the offerings on their unique flavors and textures.

SINGING THE BORDEAUX BLUES THE VINO VOICE
The baby-boom generation who entered and played the wine game back in the 1980s, pretty much fell into two distinct Cabernet Sauvignon groups: we learned to love the California Cabs from Napa/Sonoma; or, we jumped into the French red Bordeaux, where we had to catch up fast on the two century-long history and appreciation of the most famous region in the wine world.
Bordeaux, at that time, was the gold standard. Sure California had great Cab vintages such as the 1974s and ‘85s—and would go on to shine at many European wine competition (the movie “Bottle Shock” does a great job with the story surrounding the “1976 Judgment in Paris”). But Bordeaux was all the rage, especially in the auction market where vintage Bordeaux began to bring in the big, big bucks.
But now, as Wine Spectator points out, “for the last few decades, Bordeaux have been grappling with shrinking sales of value wine. Consumption in France has dropped by more than 70% in the past 75 years. In France, people aren’t just drinking less, they’re opting for beer and cocktails; and when they do drink wine, they tend to prefer higher-end reds as well as white, rose, and sparkling wines.”
In the U.S., with all of the West Coast and international wine competitions, Bordeaux has also, in the past decades, shrunk in young American’s vino desires. But the baby-boomers are still buying the stuff— and, they have the money to pay for it.
Sales of Bordeaux wine to the U. S. have increased dramatically in 2021. According to the Bordeaux Wine Council, sales increased by 67 percent to 395 million bottles, thus reaching a new record turnover. The quantity increased by 24 percent to 33 million bottles. This means that above all, more expensive wines were in demand. The U.S. is the second most important market for red Bordeaux—and the largest for white Bordeaux wines. The suspension of the additional import duty of 25 percent on French still wines by US President Joe Biden in March 2021 could significantly strengthen sales.
But have you heard— “The Case of the Meager Harvest and the Imposter Bordeaux”, also reported in Wine Spectator, which doesn’t help with the younger vino voices in our midst: “It all started with miserable weather. Back in 2013, a meager crop of wine from the Blaye Cotes De Bordeaux region panicked the businessmen.”
One of the big wine players there in the region organized the purchase of cheap Spanish table wine that got trucked into France and was eventually sold as generic Bordeaux. Things went pretty well, and from 2016 to 2019, 131 tanker trucks hauled the equivalent of 380,000 of the cheap Spanish wine to France where is was passed off as more expensive French wine, mainly Bordeaux appellations such as Margaux & Pomerol.
I don’t know if there’s any consolation to the wine crime committed, but for a long time in the early history of Bordeaux
BY RICK RIOZZA
wine, Spanish wine—particularly the red Tempranillo/Rioja wine was often taken up to Bordeaux to “augment” the claret wine during very rainy vintages.
And speaking of some “extreme” weather, the latest 2020 Bordeaux vintage, just released, saw all types of extreme weather: “After a very wet spring that showed touches of frost and hail along the way, a warm and excessively dry summer led to one of the earliest harvests of the past 20 years. Heavy rains in August broke the drought, but the downpours were of varying intensity around the region resulting in many different ripening.”
So, are the Bordelaise singing the blues or what? Because the Bordeaux region is so diverse—Left Bank, Right Bank, Barsac & Sauternes, you’ll find some excellent wines and some very good buys—at least for Bordeaux! So sing it baby!
And now: some good buys indeed! For you folks who have deep pockets and have to have the best things in life, consider your favorite wine of all time: Château Pétrus
The 2020 Château Pétrus, which will sell for around five thousand dollars a bottle, was recently reviewed in Wine Spectator: “Delivers a fairly gorgeous beam of ripe, lush, unadulterated raspberry fruit flecked with light anise, apple wood, and sweet tobacco hints along the way… showing a subtle mineral edge that adds detail on the finish.”
It looks as though the 2020 Château Talbot, at $60, from the St. Julien, is one of the best buys of quality for the price. Personally, this Bordeaux has always been one of my favorites because of the quality/ price perspective. The WS review reads: “Exuberant, with gorgeous plum sauce, licorice root, blackberry compote, and apple wood notes vying for attention, as graphite and cast iron accents drive along underneath. Reveals a little flash of exotic toast that snazzes up the finish.” It’s a blend of Cab Sauv, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.
For us Bordeaux die-hards who love all things Pauillac (the Latours, Rothschilds, and Pichons), probably the best buy for a quick peak & taste of the 2020 vintage, is the 2020 Château Haut-Batailley Pauillac Verso at around $35. The review reads: “Enticing with an open feel combined with a good depth of blackberry and black currant fruit flavors, lined with singed balsam wood and tobacco hints. Ends with a perfumed, oldschool feel. A blend of Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon.” Cheers!

ARTSCENE
BY DEANN LUBELL
The high and low desert communities proudly showcase a bountiful number of distinguished writers and artists whose various mediums, either with words or art brushes, are rated among the best creative talents in the nation, if not the world. Brian Hoff is no exception. He is a screenwriter. He pens children’s books. He writes about comedy, adventure, sci-fi, suspense, and coming of age stories.
Brian got his start in the film business in 1994 working on the HBO film “White Mile”, which starred Peter Gallagher and Alan Alda. He went on to work for independent film producer Paul Leder, father of Dreamworks director Mimi Leder. Brian continued to work in the industry and began developing his own scripts and film projects. His first animated short film “Automaton” won an award at the California International Animation Festival in 2008. Brian is an actor and a member of SAG AFTRA and ASCAP.
Brian is the creator of the popular animated book and animated series Secret Agent 00K9: The Fast & the Furriest centered on a silly spy dog agent 00K9 (pronounced Double Oh K 9) who goes on adventures as a detective solving crimes in an animal-only, but wacky humanlike, society. From 2014 to 2016 Brian held book signings and benefits for the Palm Springs Police Department K-9 Unit. He enjoys reading his books to elementary school students in Desert Hot Springs, CA. Brian exhibited his works at the “Palm Spring Comic Con” event 2016-2019.
“I have always been interested in animation and cartoons,” said Brian. “As a child, I think my greatest creative inspirations come from growing up in the mountains of Northern California. In that free open space, I was able to develop a wild imagination and began writing and creating at a young age.” Brian’s late dog Cosmo was the inspiration behind the spy dog character in his book series. Cosmo attended book signings over the years until he passed in 2015. “I honored Cosmo in the last book where I created the character Agent Cosmo and gave tribute to him as a hero who saves the city.” According to Brian, animation can transform, inspire, educate, and allow artists to create visuals in multiple techniques and styles lending to an unlimited word of digital storytelling.
Brian recently organized a special book signing and benefit at the Palm Springs Animal Shelter titled “10 Years of Tails” celebrating the animal shelters 10 years and included the Palm Springs Police K-9 Unit on December 10, 2022, and introduced his latest children’s comedy book series “Keeping Up with the Car Chasers” about a dysfunctional dog family
living the “Furrywood Hills”. The new series focuses on the family with outrageous humor along with valuable life lessons that are great for kids and their parents. In 2022 the comedy book series was nominated for a “Readers Choice Award” by TKC Publishing, American Fiction Award, and was a winner of the 2022 “Mom’s Choice Award.”
In 2017, Brian founded the “Palm Springs International Animation Festival” which featured Oscar winning and contending talent from all over the world. Brian saw the opportunity to bring wonderful and intriguing animated films to Palm Springs including hosting Q & A sessions with filmmakers, animators, and industry executives. Brian has been quoted in Variety Magazine and featured in The Hollywood Reporter, as well as others.
If you would like to meet Brian, he is the featured author at a book signing at Crystal Fantasy Gift Shop in Palm Springs on Saturday, March 4 from 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM. He will have a limited number of his toy kid’s watches that come with the “Secret Agent 00K9: The Fast & the Furriest” book series.

PET PL ACE GIRLFRIEND IS NOW BEST FRIEND AND NAMED SUGAR
BY JANET McAFEE
of the fence on the property they managed. A medium sized Husky/German Shepherd blend, Maverick became their best friend. Maribel was hoping to adopt a Shih Tzu and didn’t realize they could be found in shelters. The couple came in together to LAA a couple days later. It was love at first hug when Girlfriend and Mirabel met. Mirabel tells us, “When I arrived she ran towards me with such joy! This pup is a kind soul who just wants to be loved. We named her Sugar. She is blessing who just wants to be with you, so smart and well behaved.” The wise pup sealed the deal with a kiss on her adoption day, January 30, 2023.
The adorable Shih Tzu dog was brought into Loving All Animals by the Good Samaritan who found her as a stray running the street. Her coat was matted, though she seemed to be well adjusted, liked other dogs and adored the staff and volunteers at the shelter. Their veterinarian estimated her age as one year. They named her Girlfriend since the neutered male pup she shared a yard with came in with the name of Boyfriend. Girlfriend became very sad when Boyfriend was adopted. She cheered up when another happy pup came into her yard for play and companionship.
Shih dogs are an extremely popular breed. They are small, adorable, playful, and loving. They are hypoallergenic and a favorite of people with allergies. Being female and young put Girlfriend in even greater demand. She could be the poster pup for homeless
rescue dogs. Surprisingly, approximately 30% of the dogs in shelters appear to be pure breeds.
People pay thousands of dollars for Shih Tzu puppies when they can adopt one from a shelter or rescue for a nominal fee. Prospective adopters may not realize that cute puppy they see online may never arrive after they pay a hefty deposit. Out of sight, dogs can come from a puppy mill where the parent dogs are kept in cruel conditions without human touch or veterinary care. I have received phone calls from heartbroken families who adopted sick puppies from breeders who required extensive medical care and even passed away. Their phone calls were unanswered. Motivated by high profits, some breeders neglect medical care and adopt puppies when they are too young to leave their mothers.
Bruce Beaston came to Loving All Animals looking for a dog to adopt. His wife Maribel Andrade was at work that day. Understanding selecting a new dog needs to include everyone, Butch took videos of several pups and sent them to Maribel. Who wouldn’t fall in love with Girlfriend’s sweet smile? Girlfriend went to the top of the couple’s list, and Butch put in reservation to adopt her.
Butch and Maribel are “rescue warriors” with a history of helping homeless animals. In2019 they transported 40 cats for Forever Meow to a shelter in Oregon where there was then a shortage of adoptable cats. Their close friends, David and veterinarian Dr. Leigh Kirk, operated this respected local cat rescue. Maverick, the couple’s other dog, came to them when Butch discovered him tangled in chicken wire in a broken section
ADORABLE ANGEL MEET CARTER
The staff at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus named me “Angel” because I’m such a sweet girl. I’m a 2-yr-old Pit Pup, 35 lbs of doggie love. No one understands why I’m the longest shelter resident here for 90 days! Come meet me, dog ID#A1712422 at 72-050 Pet Land Place, Thousand Palms 10am to 4pm Mon through Sat. I love all people and other dogs. www.rcdas.org.
Butch reports, “Sugar is an unbelievable dog! She and Maverick run like the wind together. When I throw one toy, both Alpha dogs grab it and bring it back to me running and holding it together.” The pair of pups chasing each other throughout their property are quite entertaining. Sweet Sugar has won everyone’s heart.
If you are looking for a specific breed or type of dog or cat to adopt, www.petfinder. com is an excellent place to start. It allows you to enter your zip code, breed, and age range you seek, and rescue animals closest to your home will show up. According to Fortune Magazine, the total value of all homes in the United States is down 5% or $3 trillion from a June 2022 high of $48 trillion. Still, prices are $13 trillion higher than before COVID. Redfin states that the average price of a home in the U.S. was $384,000 last week.
In the most recent release minutes from the last Federal Open Market Committee meeting, Fed officials believed that the valuation of residential homes “remained high” with “the potential for large declines in property prices.” The committee came to this conclusion despite the fastest decline in home values since The Great Recession of 2008 over the last six months.
It is easy to see why prices are falling. Mortgage rates are 3% higher than just one year ago at 6.5% for a 30-year fixed rate loan. Due to strong numbers for the U.S. economy in January, most market watchers expect the Fed to boost its key Fed Funds rate to at least 5.5% range by this summer. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan Chase stated just last week that he sees the Fed rate moving above 6% before the Fed is done with its monetary tightening policies. If this is the case, home buyers can expect 30-year fixed rate mortgages costing more than 7% during the second half of this year.
With this as a backdrop, it is no surprise that 23 of the 29 top real estate forecasters expect lower prices on homes as the year

According to Redfin, it remained a seller’s market in places like Fayetteville North Carolina, Fort Wayne Indiana, Omaha Nebraska, Richmond Virginia, Wichita Kansas, Virginia Beach, and Anchorage.
progresses.
Across the United States, 274,000 homes sold in January, a 34% drop from only one year ago when 414,000 homes were sold. Overall, 1.3 million homes were up for sale in January, a 20% increase in inventory from one year ago. The average time of the market was 51 days, a 24 Zillow day increase from last year. About one in five homes sold for less than the asking price while one in five sold for more. For comparison, 60% of homes were selling for more than the list price last June.
At the end of January, found that 276 of the 400 largest metropolitan markets had the prices on home sales falling while 124 markets remained near 2022 highs. The strongest markets have been in more affordable parts of the United States that boast lower tax rates. Weakness is felt most heavily in the most expensive metro markets.
SENIOR VETS SCAMMED AGAIN
Senior vets, who have put their lives in harm’s way to protect America, are often the victims of elder abuse and fraud. This is especially true in the CV where we have more elderly, who are the most gullible to SCAMS. Though this is not my area of law I have over the years felt compelled to alert Seniors. This could be happening to you, your parents or grandparents… so read on.
There have been lawsuits which hopefully will be a huge step towards protecting seniors from potential “Nationwide” financial scams...per a consumer’s advocacy group. Hopefully, it will stop those that refer to themselves as “veteran advocates” from preying upon seniors. Hopefully it will punish these “advocates”, and others, from engaging in egregious fraudulent conduct against the senior vets.
“One filed case arose from a widespread nationwide scheme of inducing elderly residents of retirement homes, and assisted living facilities, to reposition their assets earning 7-10%, in order to apply for the free Aid and Attendance pension benefits offered by the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Unwitting senior veterans are sold unsuitable annuities that generate .06%. However, they generate handsome commissions and profits for the insurance agent and insurance company.
The Chicago Tribune said, the insurance “advocate agents” set up a “free lunch or dinner Educational Presentation” at retirement homes and assisted living facilities that are ostensibly to “educate senior vets on
benefits available to them”. However, they do not disclose, as mandated by California Insurance Code 785 et seq, that they are insurance agents. Thus they violate the law demanding a duty of honesty; good faith and fair dealing when the “purchaser” is 65 or older (i.e.elderly). They also fail to advise in writing, as required by Insurance Code section 789, that use of a mutual fund or other asset to fund the annuity may have tax consequences in addition to early withdrawal penalties etc.
In the past, the SEC and Financial Industry Regulatory authority, scrutinized 110 securities firms that utilized the “free lunch”. The report found that 100 percent were sales presentations despite the facts they were advertised as educational.
Per a past AARP bulletin “for years AARP has warned about “veterans advocates” who are unscrupulous investment advisers targeting Senior Vets throughout the country.” The advisors are not accredited with the US Department of Veteran Affairs. They allude that they are part of the government and are a nonprofit 501c3. Sometimes they wear a picture badge (with a patriotic looking logo) that ID’s them as a “Volunteer Veteran Advocate” with a senior veterans group.
They convince the innocent victims to buy annuities under the guise of an Aid and Attendance program which benefits lowincome war veterans and spouses for which they are often not qualified. They go after wealthy seniors in expensive retirement facilities, because people who are truly
One in four home buyers were looking to relocate to places where homes were more affordable, and the cost of living was lower. This meant that people were migrating from high-cost locations like California, New York, Washington DC, Illinois and Massachusetts in order to move to Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Arizona and South Carolina.
Redfin reported that Miami was the most sought-after place to relocate to with Sacramento, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Tampa rounding out the top five. The Miami market continued its surge – up 20% over the last year. Knoxville was second at 18% followed by Charleston SC and the state of Florida at 17% each.
People were looking to leave San Francisco the most followed by Los Angeles, New York City, the District of Columbia and Chicago. San Francisco saw the biggest drop in the market value of its homes, down 7% or $37 billion to $518 billion. Bend Oregon had the largest drop in prices at 9% followed by San Francisco at 7% and Phoenix at 6%.
In California, 71,000 homes for sale at the end of January. The median price (the

price where half of homes are more or less expensive) was a pricey $733,000 or $410 per square foot. Palm Springs slightly exceeded the state at $414 per square foot with an average home price of $900,000. Time on the market for these homes was 74 days. For prospective home buyers, now may be a good time to exhibit patience and wait for higher rates to bring down the sales price of a home. If rates peak later this year, 2024 could be when home affordability improves.

qualified for Aid and Attendance have no money. They induce the senior to reposition their assets into an irrevocable trust so they appear poor and can thus apply for the FREE Aid and Attendance Pension benefits offered by the US Department of Veteran Affairs. By going along with this subterfuge, the senior veterans may jeopardize their chances to qualify for Medicaid and may be conspiring to defraud the government.
The AARP Bulletin explained, the salesman “advocate” promises if they purchase through them, they can be eligible for Department of Veteran Affairs pensions and other benefits. Some Veteran Affairs Divisions, have set up task forces to address these schemes.
The irrevocable trusts usually utilize annuities which are long term investments that are often inappropriate for older retirees. One case involved a 90-year-old vet. Some annuities must be held for a certain period of time. Thus a 90-year-old that purchases a 10 year annuity, will likely not be around when it concludes. If they pass away, their heirs will be stuck with the same investment for that 10 year period.
Rarely do victims of elder abuse pursue litigation against suspected scammers. Because real Elder Abuse requires a senior to go to court. Seniors can’t handle court and they don’t want to be involved. The schemes are NOT unusual and are nationwide to induce war vets to sign away money in exchange for service that don’t exist.
Often seniors don’t know what an annuity is, and the word annuity was never used in the sale. The salesperson often identifies himself as a volunteer for a group for Senior Vets- alluding to their being part of the VA
and government.
When litigation was initiated against one insurance company, they agreed to stop selling this product in California. A special Hotline has been set up for elder abuse victim’s complaints and assistance. Elder abuse can be financial, like the case herein, or a hospital or nursing home mistreating the senior. The law allows for a recovery of three times the amount of the punitive DAMAGES.

LEGAL REPRESENTATION OF THE INJURED & CRIMINALLY ACCUSED
THE “MEGA” CHURCH
As Passover [and ultimately redemption] draws near, for centuries Christians have debated what constitutes as worship, praise, and a true Biblical church service. Some in society refer to a particular group of churches as “mega” churches. These churches practice Christianbased bible study, praise, and worship - not necessarily in that order. However, the acts performed on and off stages mimic the secular form of “entertainment” sprinkled with motivational speeches, and comedy.
Universally, and thanks to the inception of these “mega” church performances, most who sincerely wish to know God intimately are conditioned to accepting that a Christian “church” means singing along to electric guitar riffs and drumbeats, jumping up and down, running around frantic, swaying to-and-fro, rewriting the Bible to suit culture, and accepting all things worldly in place of repentance of sin and true Bible study. Intertwined within the “mega” church practice is the “prosperity gospel”.
The prosperity gospel, as expressed by pastors such as T.D. Jakes, and Kenneth Copeland, has been around for ages and has witnessed a “mega” revival of sorts during the past fifty years. Even during Biblical times, Jesus’s apostles warned those who wanted to discover faith - not to be deceived by false prophets [wolves in sheep’s clothing as they are described].
Most “mega” churches featuring prosperity gospels, focus on the entertainment aspect of a church service. This typically entails a live rock performance, supernatural healings, and teachings about how we can all become rich [as in monetary wealth] in this life. These church services minimize the emphasis of sin, and the repentance of sin, and what truly happens to our eternal souls if we continue along the “wide” path that leads straight to hell. In addition, mega churches [not all] amend God’s Holy Word, like the Roman Catholic church - who openly admit it, and all in the name of appeasing the current “worldly” status quo. That, as stated in the Holy Bible, is an abomination unto God.
The Holy Bible clearly states that true Bible believers of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ are not to conform to the ways of the world. Meaning: If God states in the Bible that he rested on the seventh day and that he wants us to do likewise, take it literally not figuratively. If God states in the Bible that women are not to teach men, take it literally,

tithes are used - no one truly knows but those who collect them. One thing is for certain. A mega church facility, strobe lighting, flagwaving, spotlights, directors of photography, big screen TV’s, pyrotechnics, cameras, music bands, billboard ad campaigns, pastor autobiographies and what have you, cost a lot of money. Is all this necessary? How about the widow who needs financial help? Or the congregation member who lost his/her job? Tithes would be better spent assisting the people who truly need it rather than the production.
not figuratively.
The result of mega church/prosperity gospel splicing God’s emphatic Word to suit worldly ideology is a “mega” disaster waiting to happen for the perhaps would-be true Bible believer as he/she is led softly astray by a compromising sheep in wolves clothing. God’s Word is non-compromising. His Word is unchangeable as it is written in the Holy Bible’s Book of Revelation, Chapter 22.
What does a prosperity gospel church pastor look like?
Aside from the aforementioned, many may be familiar with motivational speaker, Tony Robbins. Now, imagine Tony Robbins performing his routine schtick but adding Bible verses, while peppering anecdotes about God and Jesus Christ here and there - now you have an exact description of a prosperity gospel church pastor.
Joel Osteen - a hero to many [and the Bible clearly states that we are not to worship any other gods than our Father in heaven] is a well-known prosperity church pastor. Even Hollywood celebrities who are anything but Christian love Joel. This is interesting because the Holy Bible clearly states that, “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own, but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you” John Chapter 15 Versus 18-27 [KJV King James Version]. Jesus Christ, the Son of God said this, so take it literally. If Joel Osteen were preaching the true gospel of Jesus Christ, he would not be loved the way he is, much less by Hollywood celebrities.
How is it that Jesus Christ, who performed countless miracles - free of charge, loved
unconditionally, gave his life for others, God incarnate, was so despised, yet certain mega church pastors are loved, albeit worshipped by others? According to many prosperity gospel churches - if you are not popular, loved, and rich, you are not living a Godly life? This is false. The Bible states regarding worldly riches in Matthew Chapter 6 Verse 24: “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money” [NIV New International Version].
Joel Osteen wants us all to “live our best lives now”, and places near zero emphasis on the life that will come in the thereafter. We don’t know about you, but we would much rather live our best lives in the afterlife and as best we can in this life rather than sacrificing the former for the latter. Remember, once this life is complete there is no hope left at redemption. Either you will live an eternity filled with peace and true prosperity, or you will find yourself sizzling on the hot side of a rotisserie forever. It is not a joke. If you care to know the way to avoid the latter, there is but one Way, and that is through the gift of salvation only found through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Another topic while peeling the onion of a mega church, is the concept of worship time versus Bible study time.
Most mega church services focus heavily upon overly loud music or “rock ‘n roll” time - some playing and singing music for up to one hour, followed by maybe twenty minutes of actual Bible study, spliced with speeches of self-gratitude, self-promotion, and the asking of tithes to be given. Where and how these
Regarding the topic of Sunday worship. The Bible states that Saturday or “Sabbath” as it is written in Hebrew, is the Lord’s Holy Day of rest and worship. Sunday was adopted as the day of rest and worship by the “Roman” [those who crucified Jesus] Catholic church [not the Protestant Christian church]. The Roman Catholic church had no qualms about altering and ignoring God’s instructions for humankind - His holy scriptures - as found in some of the final words of the Book of Revelation, Chapter 22 - “If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book. And, if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book” [NLT New Living Translation]. Not to mention, “Sunday” was a pagan name given to honor the day when peoples of old would worship the false “sun god”.
In conclusion, we are not implying with our own human wisdom or understanding that there is a wrong or right way to worship our Lord, or how a church gathering should unfold. That is not up to us, but the Lord God Almighty. We are merely servants seeking the true source that is the wisdom of God through His Words written within His Holy Bible - God’s emphatic and unchanging Word of Truth. None of us is perfect or righteous. But striving daily to be so is what we do.
If we are to have true faith we must study, follow, obey, strive and live-out the true Word of God without compromise.

ARIES (March 21-April 19): In 1993, I began work on my memoirish novel The Televisionary Oracle. It took me seven years to finish. The early part of the process was tough. I generated a lot of material I didn’t like. Then one day, I discovered an approach that liberated me: I wrote about aspects of my character and behavior that needed improvement. Suddenly everything clicked, and my fruitless adventure transformed into a fluidic joy. Soon I was writing about other themes and experiences. But dealing with self-correction was a key catalyst. Are there any such qualities in yourself you might benefit from tackling, Aries? If so, I recommend you try my approach.
“The actions you choose to take in association with the knowledge and experience you have gathered on your journey are a demonstration of your power.” Speaking From Our Hearts, Volume 9, Coauthored by Aimee Mosco, page 86.
Your perceptions dictate many things about the reality in which you live. They color all of the energies you generate from your thoughts and emotions, and hold great power in bringing about outcomes. At the highest level of creation, you are the creator of everything you experience as an individual and as a collective force. You have the ability to fashion an entire Universe, and your perceptions are what make that possible!
We have reached a crossroads in our spiritual evolution where we have awakened to the remembrance that we are monumentally powerful beings. This awareness was cloudy because the energies that comprise our world did not support this clarity until now.
During the cloudy period your soul readied you for the atmospheric energy shifts of the new paradigm. You learned of your power in small ways so you would be ready to use it in big ways when the moment arrived. In the old paradigm your soul studies kept you focused on your performance as a single thread in the collective tapestry. The perceptions you have embraced in this embodiment held the power to move mountains in your personal corner of the Universe, but alone you may not have been successful at moving mountains in the shared material world. That was just not your job to own as an individual.
The job that was yours to own and master in the old paradigm was handed down to you from your soul to meet your mission in this life. That job was to take full responsibility for your perceptions which influence your thoughts, emotions, words, and actions. When you were sticking to the plan, you were collecting the knowledge and experience required to step into the full force of your power when the time was right.
Now that we are at the end of the old era and beginning of the new, it is time to apply our knowledge and experience to master and integrate our lessons in their full expression. If your perceptions hold you back in any way from owning your thoughts and emotions as your domain, from releasing any blame you have put on others for what you feel and think, it may benefit you to invite your soul to assist you in shifting your perceptions, so they align you with your divine power to move mountains in the new era.
In my pursuit to help you connect with your divine power, I invite you to join my Telegram group SACRED Discussions. Go to https://t.me/+8XQ9bgCiF0A2YzIx and enjoy the light of this supportive community.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): Two Taurus readers complained that my horoscopes contain too much poetry and flair to be useful. In response, I’m offering you a prosaic message. It’s all true, though in a way that’s more like a typical horoscope. (I wonder if this approach will spur your emotional intelligence and your soul’s lust for life, which are crucial areas of growth for you these days.) Anyway, here’s the oracle: Take a risk and extend feelers to interesting people outside your usual sphere. But don’t let your social adventures distract you from your ambitions, which also need your wise attention. Your complex task: Mix work and play; synergize business and pleasure.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Astrologer Jessica Shepherd advises us to sidle up to the Infinite Source of Life and say, “Show me what you’ve got.” When we do, we often get lucky. That’s because the Infinite Source of Life delights in bringing us captivating paradoxes. Yes and no may both be true in enchanting ways. Independence and interdependence can interweave to provide us with brisk teachings. If we dare to experiment with organized wildness and aggressive receptivity, our awareness will expand, and our heart will open. What about it, Gemini? Are you interested in the charming power that comes from engaging with cosmic contradictions? Now’s a favorable time to do so. Go ahead and say, “Show me what you’ve got” to the Infinite Source of Life.
CANCER (June 21-July 22): “Only a lunatic would dance when sober,” declared the ancient Roman philosopher Cicero. As a musician who loves to dance, I reject that limiting idea— especially for you. In the upcoming weeks, I hope you will do a lot of dancing-while-sober. Singing-while-sober, too. Maybe some crying-forjoy-while-sober, as well as freewheeling-yourway-through-unpredictable-conversations-whilesober and cavorting-and-reveling-while-sober. My point is that there is no need for you to be intoxicated as you engage in revelry. Even further: It will be better for your soul’s long-term health if you are lucid and clearheaded as you celebrate this liberating phase of extra joy and pleasure.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Poet Mary Oliver wondered whether the soul is solid and unbreakable, like an iron bar. Or is it tender and fragile, like a moth in an owl’s beak? She fantasized that maybe it’s shaped like an iceberg or a hummingbird’s eye. I am poetically inclined to imagine the soul as a silver diadem bedecked with emeralds, roses, and live butterflies. What about you, Leo? How do you experience your soul? The coming weeks will be a ripe time to home in on this treasured part of you. Feel it, consult with it, feed it. Ask it to surprise you!
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): According to the color consultant company Pantone, Viva Magenta is 2023’s color of the year. According to me, Viva Magenta is the lucky hue and power pigment for you Virgos during the next ten months. Designer Amber Guyton says that Viva Magenta “is a rich shade of red that is both daring and warm.” She adds that its “purple undertone gives it a warmth that sets it apart from mere red and makes it more versatile.” For your purposes, Virgo, Viva Magenta is earthy and exciting; nurturing and inspiring; soothing yet arousing. The coming weeks will be a good time to get the hang of incorporating its spirit into your life.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): If you are not

working to forge a gritty solution, you may be reinforcing a cozy predicament. If you’re not expanding your imagination to conjure up fresh perspectives, you could be contributing to some ignorance or repression. If you’re not pushing to expose dodgy secrets and secret agendas, you might be supporting the whitewash. Know what I’m saying, Libra? Here’s a further twist. If you’re not peeved about the times you have wielded your anger unproductively, you may not use it brilliantly in the near future. And I really hope you will use it brilliantly.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Storyteller Martin Shaw believes that logic and factual information are not enough to sustain us. To nourish our depths, we need the mysterious stories provided by myths and fairy tales. He also says that conventional hero sagas starring big, strong, violent men are outmoded. Going forward, we require wily, lyrical tales imbued with the spirit of the Greek word metis, meaning “divine cunning in service to wisdom.” That’s what I wish for you now, Scorpio. I hope you will tap into it abundantly. As you do, your creative struggles will lead to personal liberations. For inspiration, read myths and fairy tales.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Many astrologers don’t give enough encouragement to you Sagittarians on the subject of home. I will compensate for that. I believe it’s a perfect time to prioritize your feelings of belonging and your sense of security. I urge you to focus energy on creating serenity and stability for yourself. Honor the buildings and lands you rely on. Give extra appreciation to the people you regard as your family and tribe. Offer blessings to the community that supports you.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): If you are like 95 percent of the population, you weren’t given all the love and care you needed as a child. You may have made adaptations to partly compensate for this lack, but you are still running a deficit. That’s the bad news, Capricorn. The good news is that the coming weeks will be a favorable time to overcome at least some of the hurt and sadness caused by your original deprivation. Life will offer you experiences that make you feel more at home in the world and at peace with your destiny and in love with your body. Please help life help you! Make yourself receptive to kindness and charity and generosity.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): The philosopher Aldous Huxley was ambitious and driven. Author of almost 50 books, he was a passionate pacifist and explorer of consciousness. He was a visionary who expressed both dystopian and utopian perspectives. Later in his life, though, his views softened. “Do not burn yourselves out,” he advised readers. “Be as I am: a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it.” Now I’m offering you Huxley’s counsel, Aquarius. As much as I love your zealous idealism and majestic quests, I hope that in the coming weeks, you will recharge yourself with creature comforts.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Piscean author and activist W. E. B. Dubois advised us to always be willing to give up what we are. Why? Because that’s how we transform into a deeper and stronger version of ourselves. I think you would benefit from using his strategy. My reading of the astrological omens tells me that you are primed to add through subtraction, to gain power by shedding what has become outworn and irrelevant. Suggested step one: Identify dispiriting self-images you can jettison. Step two: Visualize a familiar burden you could live without. Step three: Drop an activity that bores you. Step four: Stop doing something that wastes your time.
Homework: What’s something you’d be wise to let go of? What’s something to hold on to tighter? Newsletter.FreeWillastrology.com

Forward head posture occurs when your neck slants forward, placing your head in front of your shoulders.
It’s also called “text neck” or “nerd neck,” because it results from prolonged bending toward a computer screen, or hunching over a laptop or cell phone. It’s also associated with the loss of muscle strength in the aging process.
Forward head posture forces the muscles in your neck and back to work harder to keep your head upright.
FORWARD HEAD POSTURE. WHY DO YOU HAVE IT AND HOW DO YOU CORRECT IT?
As the head moves forward, the neck straightens while the righting mechanism of the eyes rotates the head up. So, it is a coupled distortion and not just a simple bending of the neck. This places a great deal of strain on the neck structures as they need to balance the weight of the head, about the weight of a bowling ball.
Although there are many muscle groups
involved, research has found that the deep muscles in front of the neck are a main culprit involved with forward head posture. These muscles become overstretched and weakened, allowing the head to move further into the forward head posture. A simple but specific neck stretching exercise can help with this.
Tips for Fixing Forward Head Posture or Nerd Neck
The best way to correct your forward head posture or nerd neck is to keep your neck supported at all times. Here are four things to help you get started:
• Exercise & Stretch
• Supportive pillow
• Ergonomic workstation
• Properly sized backpack or bag
Ways to Combat Forward Head Posture
Today I just want to share 3 postural strategies and movement patterns that you can use throughout the day to prompt neutral neck and shoulder position in order to release tension in your body.
• Find a neutral neck position when upright: think of someone pulling a string attached to the back of your skull, encouraging a gentle chin tuck.
• Practice the active rest position – lie down on your back with your knees bent and either a small pillow or a book under your head. Visualize melting into the floor, flattening your low back against the ground.

This will lower your ribcage as you exhale and cause your chin to tuck gently. This is a much needed break for your neck that will help you destress and develop better posture. Perform a gentle chest opener to release lat and pec muscle tightness. Place your hands on the counter while standing a couple feet away from it. Hinge at the hips, sinking them back until your back is parallel to the floor. Gently lengthen your finger tips forward. If you are very tight through the hamstrings, bend your knees.

The word ‘quantum’ means a small amount. Quantum energy physics is different from classical physics because of its complex scientific phenomenon of “quantization. Quantum physics is regarded the most difficult part of physics because it works with your own body’s life force. The quantum rules and systems behavior follow another set of rules that we may not use or see in a regular science class. (It works with the power of the mind and the hearts will) It works with the flow of your own body’s energetic potential.
The mastery of altering energies within a subatomic degree could energize and heal a sick body, mind, and soul. Merging principals from mind and body medicine, quantum physics, meditation, and Eastern medicine have proved that the body can heal with the power of your mind and heart.
• Energy- in physics, the capacity for doing work. It may exist in potential, kinetic, thermal, electrical, chemical, and other forms of energy that have movement or motion.
• Quantization- To subdivide energy, small dichotomy of measurable increments.
Subatomic- Particles that are smaller than an atom.
• Eastern Medicine-Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a healing system of Eastern medicine developed in China more than 2,000 years ago. Based on expelling negative sickness with positive thoughts and natural remedies.
• Meditation- The mind and body practice; increasing calmness and physical relaxation,
creating psychological balance, managing with illness, and creating a healthy body.
• Physics- The science focused on nature and properties of matter and energy. Physics can be studied in chemistry and biology, also mechanics, heat, light, sound, electricity, magnetism and within the body of the atoms. How can this help a person heal or cope with disease and pain? Understanding the power of your body’s energy field is key to healing or coping with illnesses. Quantum Physics is the science that proves that energy, good energetic thoughts can help many ailments of the mind and body heal. Such as Reiki, Eastern Medicine, and homeopathic medicines such as CBD oil or turmeric; that can assist the endocannabinoid system; to work at its highest level of healing.
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been around for over 2,000 years and
has developed within many healings and energetic approaches such as Acupuncture(the insertion of very tiny needles through the skin redirecting the quantum life force of the body to heal.) It can benefit people who suffer from:
Arthritis
Chronic pain (such as headaches, back pain, neck pain)
Depression
Insomnia
Migraines
Nausea
Sciatica
Sinus congestion
Stress and anxiety
Tinnitus
Weight loss
Healing the body within your own life force may seem difficult, yet when your body

is bruised or it has a scratch- our cells work hard to heal it. Imagine another person with over 2000 years of knowledge helping you redirect your energy field into health. The energetic quantum mind over matter healing works for many people like an invisible energy field that can redirect many of our human diseases into eases.
Another health benefit in acupuncture that has been discovered is regenerating the skin or facial elasticity. Cosmetic acupuncture or facial acupuncture can improve your skin from fine lines, unevenness of skin on your face, head, and neck. Studies have shown that three weeks of steady acupuncture can help your skin look younger. However, and most important- in long-term studies acupuncture overall can help reduce inflammation in every part of the nerve cells. Further in managing any ailment, a healthy diet, and homeopathic medicines, have helped many people manage pain and disease,
