I Am Hope Retreat Terms and Conditions Nominees must be between 1-5 years from active treatment or metastatic with doctor’s written approval. Attendees must be willing to sign a medical waiver and provide proof of doctor’s approval for physical activity, as we will be engaging in some light movement and breath work.

We ask that all attendees be willing to sign a photography waiver, as well, since photos taken during the event will be used in future PR and marketing materials — if you do not wish to appear in any photography during the retreat, please let us know. Travel costs to/ from the retreat are not included; attendees must arrange and pay for their own travel/ transportation. We require a $100 deposit to hold an attendee’s place; the full deposit will be refunded at the end of the retreat. If

ohn Doe has a beautiful voice.

There, I said it! Soulful, heartfelt and roughhewn! Maybe no one really noticed the true majesty of his vocals because he began his career over 40 years ago fronting X. Formed in 1977, the seminal Los Angeles Punk band established a sound that was equally fast and furious, lyrical and nuanced. A recent Baltimore transplant, John (ne’ John Nommensen Duchac) connected with guitarist Billy Zoom (born Tyson Kindell) through an ad in The Recycler, a free local paper.

During band practice, he brought along his girlfriend, budding poet Exene Cervenka (formerly Christene Lee Cervenka). By the end of that practice, she joined the band, (the couple married in 1980). The line-up was made complete with the addition of ex-Eyes drummer, Donald “DJ” Bonebrake.

One of the first bands signed to Slash Records, they released their trailblazing debut, Los Angeles, in 1980. X quickly followed up with their equally impressive sophomore effort, Wild Gift in late 1981.

Embraced by critics and fans alike, their hometown popularity resulted in a major label deal with Elektra Records. Continuing their winning streak, they released 1982’s Under The Big Black Sun, and 1983’s More Fun In The New World. All four albums were produced by Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek. It felt as though he was passing the L.A. music torch to the next generation.

X went beyond the confines of Punk.

Initially, their sound was characterized by short, sharp songs accented by nihilistic, doom-tastic lyrics. Soon enough, they began incorporating Rootsier styles like Rockabilly, Folk and Country. The lyrics, written by both John and Exene, touched on real world concerns like poverty, addiction and politics. Their dissonant vocal harmonies positioned them as the George Jones and Tammy Wynette of Punk. Although X was the first Punk band to headline the Greek Theater, commercial success eluded their grasp. John and Exene divorced in 1985 After six studio albums and a blazing live set, the band took a break at the dawn of the ‘90s. This allowed each member to sew some artistic oats. John immediately jump-started a solo career. He also embarked on an acting career, landing roles in films like Border Radio, Great Balls Of Fire, Georgia, Boogie Nights and The Good Girl. His self-titled debut arrived in 1990, in the ensuing years he has released nine solo records, as well as collaborations with Jill Sobule, The Sadies and Exene.

Meanwhile, at the turn of the 21st century, X reconvened and have been on the road ever since. Their current audience is a healthy mix of OG Punks and millennials. In 2020, X just surprised the shit out of everyone by releasing a new album, 17 years after their last, and 40 years after their debut. Alphabetland was exactly what longtime fans and new acolytes had hoped for: snarly, smart, cutting and sublime.

Somewhere in the last few years John also found time to author two excellent

books about the L.A. Punk Scene, We’re Desperate and Under The Big Black Sun. Now he’s returned with his 10th solo album, Fables In A Foreign Land.

The record opens with a gust of blustery wind, instantly transporting the listener back to another place and time, before folding into “Never Coming Back.” Driving acoustic guitars (which echo the Spanishflavored strumming that exemplified Love’s stunning Psychedelic masterpiece, “Maybe The People Would Be The Times, Or Between Clark And Hilldale”) collide with slapdash bass lines and rumbling backbeat, before kicking into a sly shuffle rhythm on the chorus. Co-written with Texas legend and Outlaw Country progenitor, Terry Allen, the lyrics paint a vivid portrait of a young Indian boy attending his parents’ funeral. The boy astutely acknowledges that manifest destiny has put ma and pa in their graves; “With a mask upon his face, and whiskey for a knife, you could steal my faith, or show me Jesus Christ.” His sadness is laced with defiance and determination as he vows to break away from; “the darkening of light, or the memory of that night, they’re never coming back to the screaming of the wind, or the ghosts of them again, they’re never coming back, I’m never coming back.”

On a couple of tracks John summons his inner Man In Black and the results are pretty Cash-tastic. “Travelin’ So Hard” is powered by a frenetic “boom-chicka-boom,” the style patented by Johnny and his backing band, The Tennessee Three. Jittery bass notes dart between rollicking guitar and a freight train rhythm. A cowpoke on the move rides hell-for-leather, dreaming about some liquid libation. Once his thirst is quenched, things go suddenly awry; “He fell off his horse, as drunk as he could be, yeah he fell off his horse, and nobody laughed but me/That mare didn’t care, one way or the other, she’d been travelin’ hard.” Plucky guitar licks take flight on the first break, the second spotlights thunky upright bass runs as the tempo accelerates wildly before collapsing in a heap.

Meanwhile, “The Cowboy And Hot Air Balloon” is a bit of Wild West apocrypha anchored by galumphing bass lines, a walloping snare drum kick and jagged guitar riffs. John’s wicked grin is barely is barely contained, as he spins this colorful yarn; “He stepped out of a bar and into the street, when a hot air balloon swept him off his feet…” once he settles into the basket and begins to enjoy the ride, the cowboy realizes altitude is the least of his problems; “He figured he was safe, ‘til he saw a toothy grin, there was a grizzly bear straight across from him, ‘I’m not here to harm you,’ he growled through his teeth, ‘I’m just here to take you home and offer some relief, if you can only face your fears and take me by the paw, I’ll show you to the kingdom where the turquoise water falls.’ It doesn’t end well; “Hand and paw united, he was crushed by the the embrace, he smelled the earth and tasted sky, as het let go of the human race.” Eeesh. Who

could’ve predicted a drunken cowboy would have been swept away by a rogue balloon, only to meet his fate following an enthusiastic bear hug?

He serves up a couple of South Of The Border charmers, “El Romance-O” and “Guilty Bystander.” The former offers up the shady saga of a louche lothario.

Strummy acoustic guitars are tethered to giddy-up bass lines and a clip-clop beat.

The perfidies unfurl cantado en espanol and ingles; “Yo hablo el verdad, mi palabra es tu Libertad, y puedo ser tu major amigo, nadie saba porque, y tampoco a donde fue, porque es un mentiroso.” The ambling melody and John’s sunny delivery diminishes the lyrical chicanery.

On the latter, swoony, Norteno-flavored button accordion is matched by courtly guitars, slippery bass and a rat-a-tat beat in ¾ time. The buoyant melody and fluttery accordion nearly camouflage pointed lyrics that assert witnessing a crime is as bad as perpetrating one; “We came into town to watch some ponies race, we spoke not a word, when a master whipped a slave/ There was blood upon his back, he was trembling inside, we turned away from the terror and fright.” Silence equals complicity as the song turns introspective; “Who do you serve, do you serve yourself, open your eyes and save somebody else.”

This record is perfect, front to back, but three tracks stand out. “Sweetheart” is a tender encomium to a paramour, freshly released from prison. Jangly acoustic guitars lattice atop sturdy bass lines and a cantering beat. John’s comforting croon wraps around lyrics that reassure “Sweetheart will sleep good tonight, resting by the fireside, I’ll wash her feet and hands, polish them with sand, sweetheart will sleep good tonight.”

“After The Fall” is a bit of a cracked Country Waltz, accented by see-sawing guitars, loping bass and a tumbling beat.

Lyrics offer a poignant narrative from a Native perspective; “In a generous land came thirsty people, they drank the rivers and left the fish to die, they cried they were hungry, they were thirsty/They were lonely and cruel, self-righteous, relentless, they were fearful and vengeful, insatiable.”

John’s plaintive tone is contradicted by thrashy acoustic riff-age.

Finally, “Destroying Angels” is a crafty collaboration between John, the indie

band Garbage, and his forever partner in X, Exene Cervenka. An elastic little Rocker, the lithe melody is matched by fluttery guitars, agile bass and a propulsive rhythm. Here, John effortlessly slips into the skin of a sadistic killer who murders for love; “Some days they are so shameful, no words for them exist, everyone was tearful when they laid her in her crypt/I stood by the graveside, in my Sunday Best, my sins and all my secrets burned like fat inside my head.” Sugary acoustic guitars bookend each grisly revelation, irresistibly hookdriven, it’s the catchiest murder ballad ever.

The action slows on “Missouri,” John’s lonesome vocals soar an expansive melody that features a sweet pas de deux between fiddle and guitar on the break.

John repurposes “There’s A Black Horse” which originally appeared on his 2005 album, “Forever Hasn’t Happened Yet.” His weatherworn rasp is suitably sepulchral as hushed guitar and brushed percussion coil around this pensive lament.

Other interesting tracks include “Down South.” The sunny melody and buoyant arrangement, fueled by plangent guitars, lowing fiddle and a whipcrack beat, belies a lonesome story of a broken old man.

The willowy “See The Almighty” is a sharp rebuke of religious zealotry. The album closes with the bare-bones “Where The Songbirds Live.” A bit of a restless farewell, it wraps braided acoustic guitars around thrummy bass and a martial cadence. John wistfully concludes “this world breaks your heart, evil and mean.” It’s a desolate finish to a stellar record.

Although the instrumentation is stripped-down, just John on acoustic guitar, Kevin Smith (Willie Nelson) on upright and electric bass and Conrad Choucron (NRBQ) on drums and percussion, they’ve created a rich cinematic soundscape. Dubbed The John Doe Folk Trio, their sound is augmented Carrie Rodriguez on violin, Josh Baca on button accordion, and the record producer, Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) playing “assorted sneaky things on several tracks.”

I was an X fan from Wild Gift on, but the snarl and grit on songs like “We’re Desperate” or “In This House That I Call Home,” didn’t spotlight John’s sublimely soulful vocals. I didn’t really discover the agility and fragility of his voice until he covered Merle Haggard’s “Silver Wings” as part of The Knitters. (The band was a side project featuring most of X, their debut, Poor Little Critter On The Road, arrived in 1985). There’s an ache and a purity to his sound that has only ripened with age. On Fables In A Foreign Land his voice cloaks each song like a frayed, faded and familiar jean jacket. The record takes the listener back to a simpler place and time, when life was just as tough and complicated as it is today.

SAVORING VINTAGE CALIFORNIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON

L

ately, I’ve been taking stock in what is the remaining stock of my wine collection.

Back in the day (I know—I need to give that phrase a rest, at least for a day or two), I had a major wine collection. And a majority of the juice were bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon; a California selection and Bordeaux.

In the ‘80s, Cab Sauv was the collectible.

Most of my wine friends owned the California stuff; I on the other hand had a bunch more Bordeaux. Hey—I had a full case, and a magnum, of the 1974 Heitz Martha’s Vineyard and some other great California wines, but I did have a lot more magnums and bottles from both the right and left bank of Bordeaux.

(By the way—in the early ‘80s, magnums of wine–Cabs and otherwise, were cheaper than the bottles for the amount of wine. That is to say—a 1.5L magnum sold for less than two 750ml bottles of wine. Wine ages a little better in a large format bottle, so it was a win-win to purchase and own magnums. These days, it’s crazy reversed—magnums selling for so much more at almost prohibitive prices.)

In my conversations with my wine collector friends back then, they would always tout how formidable the California Cabs were when compared to their Bordeaux brothers. I, on the other hand, would look at them in wonder on how they could miss all of the layered complexities of the Bordeaux. The discussions were really ironic—especially when dealing with great wines from either side of the pond.

Honestly, sometimes I felt that my vino companions preferred the California stuff because they couldn’t pronounce anything on the French Bordeaux labels. They probably tried early on but were humiliated by some snobby Frenchmen who laughed at their attempt. And that would be it for them: “We love Cal Cabs— done!”

So for this past Mother’s Day, I pulled one of my few remaining vintage California Cabs to enjoy. (not to worry—I still have enough around to keep me writing for a couple of years—maybe.) Actually, when it comes to defining “vintage” wine, we’re probably looking at an excellent wine from a great vintage year that’s perhaps 15 years or older. But these days, with the younger crowd, keeping wines in a “collection” for more than 5 years is a rarity.

Therefore, by such modern standards, the wine we just enjoyed, I’m deeming a “vintage” wine: At only 8 years old in the bottle, the 2014 Arrowwood Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvingon was an absolutely delicious wine. Seriously folks, it does qualify as a vintage wine because it’s from a stellar California vintage year—2014.

For the record, narrow Knights Valley is nestled between the Mayacamas mountain range and the base of Mount St. Helena, and is the eastern-most, warmest AVA in Sonoma County. It is also one of the most pristine wine growing regions in California.

Last year, Wine Enthusiast magazine wrote, “It’s hard to overstate how stunning the 2012– 2014 vintages in Napa & Sonoma were for pretty much every variety of wine.

It was a three-year stretch of great quality and quantity.

“In 2012, the clouds literally parted and warm, consistent weather throughout the growing season gave winemakers a Goldilocks situation: not too hot, not too cold, but just right. You can almost feel a sense of relief and relaxation in that vintage. It offered exuberance and approachability upon release.

“A healthy growing season also took place in 2013, but Northern California was locked in a second year of extreme drought. The resulting wines were more structured, tannic and closed off in their youth, signs of their struggle.

However, that also makes them just about ideal to drink right now.

The 2014 vintage, a year during which California went from extreme drought to exceptional drought, was somewhat of a tweener. The wines displayed 2012’s opulence and approach ability, but with some of 2013’s power and tannin.”

For those of you so inclined, it would be a great treat to go on the auction market, or wherever you’d find older wines, and pick up and savor any decent 2014 Napa or Sonoma Cab. And 8 years is all one needs in bottle aging for the wine. It’s at its perfect stage—so delicious. It’s what world class wine is all about.

Indeed, Community Wine Reviews wrote, “Arrowood Knights Valley 2014 is a mediumplus bodied and juicy red blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 4% Malbec from Knights Valley, Sonoma County. Nice nose of ripe red berries. On the palate, the wine is dry with blackberry and blueberry fruit, cedar spice and black olive flavors on the palate with balanced acidity. Graphite notes in the background.

Tannins are fine. Drink now and for the next 20 years.

And you see—I couldn’t wait 20 more years.

But you don’t need to, again, it’s drinking perfectly. I’m sorry that I’ve never written on the Arrowood Winery& Vineyards. Their wine is so impressive. The winery has been around for a long time and it’s high time to visit.

pring is here and many local dog owners are enjoying the great outdoors in the company of their dogs. Dog friendly hiking trails are a joyful place for you and your pooch to get some exercise and fresh air. We all love this Southern California sunshine however rattlesnakes also enjoy this sunny weather and may pose a threat to both humans and our beloved dogs. If you enjoy hiking or camping with your dog, consider learning how to protect him from venomous snake bites.

This year has seen more snake sightings than usual. Our early summer weather may be a contributing factor explaining why snakes are seen inside gated communities and residential neighborhoods. One friend discovered a snake inside his living room while his two dogs chased it underneath the couch!

Dogs have no fear of snakes, and they are naturally curious about other living creatures. They love to play in areas with thick vegetation where snakes may hide.

When out walking, it is advisable to stay on the open trails. Dogs are most often bitten by snakes when walking over rough, rocky terrain or through wild vegetation. Try to

prevent your dog from overturning large rocks since rattlesnakes can hide underneath these.

There are over 700 specious of venomous snakes worldwide, and almost every part of the globe is host to some of these feared creatures. It is estimated that over 150,000 dogs are bitten by snakes every year.

Venomous snake bites have the potential to kill a dog. Even if your dog survives, a bite can cause serious muscle and neurological damage. The best way to enjoy the great outdoors without worrying is to have a dog that is trained to detect and avoid snakes.

The Coachella Valley is a geographical area with a high concentration of rattlesnakes.

What should you do if you encounter a rattlesnake when you are outside with your dog? Freeze your movement as soon as you see or hear the snake. Ascertain its location and slowly back away until you are no longer in its striking distance. Never try to handle a snake. Never allow your dog to handle a dead snake as they can still envenomate their venom.

How do you know if your dog is bitten by a snake and what should you do? There is a puncture wound that often bleeds, and the dog is immediate and severe pain. There is

usually swelling. Bruising and discoloration will occur within hours of the bite as the venom causes the blood not to clot. You may also see collapse, vomiting, muscle tremors and depression in breathing. You must seek

Not all veterinary clinics have the needed antivenom. Call ahead to make sure your vet has the antivenom on hand, as time is of the essence. Try to keep your pup as immobile as possible. Do NOT attempt to suck out the venom, do NOT attempt to cut open the area, and do NOT apply ice. Get a look at the snake that bit your dog so you can describe it to your vet.

If you live in a “high risk” geographical area or your dog is involved in frequent camping and hiking excursions you may want to consider getting a rattlesnake vaccination for him. This relatively new vaccine was finally approved for nationwide distribution in 2004. It will help lesson your dog’s reaction to the bite, but you will still need to seek immediate veterinary care.

THE MIS-ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES

T

he 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s were the heyday of American radio. Before the introduction of television in the 1950’s, much of the world-wide news and entertainment came across the radio airwaves. Folks would gather around and listen to news broadcast, adventure stories, mysteries, comedies and music. With only their imagination to paint the scenes, the audience is dependent upon their sense of sound to visualize the story, as it unfolds.

One of the most remembered American radio dramas was the Orson Wells, 1938 Broadcast of H.G. Wells novel, “War of the Worlds.” Performed and broadcasted live on October 30, 1938. The audio performance told the story of an alien invasion and was reported to have caused panic in the streets, as listeners mistook the drama for a real-life Martian attack.

Desert Theatreworks, has been taking their audiences on a trip back to the golden age of radio, with their annual production of staged radio plays that not only tell an imaginative audio story, but present a behind the scenes look at how the script is staged and how sound effects are created.

This year’s production of “The MisAdventures of Sherlock Holmes,” was adapted by Lance Phillips, based on

characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, with additional material from Sherlock Holmes and the West End Horror

by Martha Milgrom Dodge, Anthony Dodge and Nicholas Meyer.

The comedy showcases Sherlock Holmes (James Owens,) and his side-kick, Mr. Watson (Hal O’Connell,) on the case of a murder mystery, as the behind the scenes live sound effects and unseen studio drama unfolds around the actors. The cast also features Bobby Guenther, Adriana Reyes, Ron Young, Kellen Green, Michael Hamlin and Emily Unnasch, all wonderfully performing a variety of roles.

Owens, was absolutely phenomenal as the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes, aside from the occasional narcolepsy that Holmes suffered in this particular storyline, Owens, was spot on with presentation and portrayal of this iconic character. I’d love to see him perform this role in a fully staged production. Emily Unnasch, as the Co-Foley person and jingle singer could have been transported directly from another era. Her elocution reminded me of a 1940’s screen star and the radio commercial jingles were not only beautifully performed, (Unnasch has a stunning singing voice,) but the commercials had me laughing out loud.

While serving as a witness to the behindthe-scenes antics of performers can be a lot of fun, the foley performances by Guenther and Unnasch were incredible. A time or two it did become a bit too distracting to see the onstage director, Kellen Green, continuously waving his arms and throwing paper wads, while the other characters were performing.

Desert Theatreworks continues to

present talented actors performing very entertaining scripts, and this production is no exception. Lance Phillips directs this fun-filled show and proves once more what a multi-talented theatre artist he is. Just about anything DTW does is more than worth the drive to Indio for their top-quality productions.

The Mis-Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is playing through May 29th. Don’t miss this wonderfully creative and entertaining radio play.

THE BEAR AWAKES

L

ast week, stock markets reached a state often referred to as a bear market. A bear market is technically defined as a decline in market prices by 20% or more.

The latest leg down in stock valuations was caused by Target stating that they were having trouble passing higher costs on to consumers causing ‘margin compression’ (aka lower operating profits). Target stock fell by more than 25% as a result. Only a few weeks ago, Walmart posted weak results for similar reasons while Amazon posted its first loss in seven years. While stocks like TJ Maxx, Home Depot or Lowe’s reported surprisingly strong results, market participants were in the mood to sell now and figure things out later.

The last year has shown us that many people buy high and sell low whether that is a stock or house. Greed and fear cause people to do things that, over the long run, are not in their best interests.

Then will things stabilize?

When there is a sense that there has been enough demand destruction so that supply constraints begin to alleviate. It appears that this demand destruction is happening faster than most expected. Housing prices are beginning to soften, and sales are slowing quickly due to higher interest rates as well as significantly higher fuel and food prices. Add to the mix rolling shutdowns across China due to COVID that have exacerbated supply chain issues and you have a near perfect storm for near-term stock price declines.

As supply chains normalize and the Russian conflict subsides, things should begin to recover.

When might that happen?

Putin is the wild card that has messed up the world order and ruined what should have been a strong 2022 (albeit with inflation). If he is indeed dying from blood cancer and the progression of Parkinson’s disease as numerous news agencies have reported, failures in the Ukraine conflict will help force a faster transition away from him in Russia.

Similarly, China has its own issues as Xi had a brain aneurysm five months ago. This has led many to feel that his days in power may be numbered as well.

What should investors do?

The use of recent market declines is to

upgrade the quality of our holdings. With most stocks on sale, an investor has the chance to buy positions that were previously too expensive. Individual bonds can also be purchased that pay returns of nearly 4% for bonds maturing in two or three years.

An investor that does not need to withdraw funds over the next few years should view this period as one where markets are returning to some semblance of normal.

Over the long run, that is a good thing.

The Federal Reserve has been surprisingly fast at reducing COVID-era money supply increases. Where the Fed added 40% to the money supply to get through the pandemic, CNBC estimates that 25% of that stimulus is already out of financial markets. This suggests that we are much closer to the end

of the fiscal contraction than many believe.

As geopolitical events settle and supply chains normalize, we should expect markets to return to growth. Study after study show that businesses and consumers are in far better shape today than during past market declines.

Lastly, another study showed that in 13 of 16 prior market declines like this one, stock prices were 10% higher within six months.

In 15 of 16 cases, markets were 20% higher within one year.

While it is natural to be fearful and markets can move lower from here, history tells us that times like these are when we prepare our future success. Do not let emotions get the better of you. Be thoughtful and invest for long term success.

his Sunday is Memorial Day attracting a lot of tourists and traffic. My advice is to list what was hurting, from the top of their head to the bottom of their toes. A lawyer needs this information, and your memory is better shortly after the accident than it is 6 months or several years later.

I advise my clients to use their cell phones at the scene, to take pictures of the damage to the cars, injuries, the other driver’s license, and insurance card etc. In addition, a driver should get statements from the wits and get the other driver’s statement. With today’s smartphones, this is easy to do.

When injured, drivers should seek a medical evaluation asap. An ambulance validates the injuries severity and provides the information lawyer need to get you a maximum recovery. Unfortunately, often

victims do not want to spend money on the hospital, ER, or ambulance. They don’t realize they will get it back in SPADES in the settlement, if they were not at fault.

Talking to the defense lawyer or adjuster puts one’s lawyer at a disadvantage, as it provides INFORMATION to the defense. A client does not always remember what they told the adjuster and it is not just what the victim said, but what the adjuster/attorney THOUGHT s/he heard them say.”

Clients should take down social media as it is the latest trick used by the defense in both Accidents and DUI cases. The defense will Google the victim in an auto crash and check Facebook etc., to gather information on you.

They may also contact your Facebook friends to get negative information about you.

For instance, IF you post you were just in an accident and thus were 1 hour late for golf or tennis, it arguably suggests you were not hurt that badly. If while treating, you post about playing a sport, going dancing, or on a ski vacation, this might suggest you were ok and thus faking your injuries…..or so the defense would argue. Obviously, one can be injured and still play tennis or golf, but with some pain.

It is harmful if you delay seeking medical help or seeing your own family doctor, who says “go home and soak in a hot bath and come back in a month or two.” The next

month the doctor says the same thing and you return 1-2 months thereafter. After 3 visits, over 6 months, you were discharged with a bill of $600 and the insurance company offers $1000. Then you want to know why your case wasn’t worth a lot more since you were in pain for 6 months and still hurting?

The bottom line is that, “If you don’t see a doctor on a regular basis, the delay reduces the case value, and the case may not be financially worthwhile for an attorney. In other words, the insurance company will argue if you were really injured you would have found a way to get medical care.”

Ideally, you should see a doctor you have never seen before, so there are no skeletons in your closet when this doctor prepares a medical report. The mention of substance abuse, abortion, venereal disease, etc., are negatives to some jurors. In addition, you need to treat with a doctor that knows how to write medical/legal reports. If you delay treatment, the insurance company will argue the treatment may not have been from this accident and ask how do we know the treatment is from this accident?

Insurance companies think most claims are false. They ponder whether you slipped and fell while running around the pool or fell in your shower and then you thought, “I will say it is from my recent accident.” The bottom line is that adjusters are paid to

downplay the severity of the accident and the amount to be paid to you.

These questions will often result in the awareness that food is being utilized for more than hunger and there is a potential to unconsciously overeat.

TURN YOUR EMOTIONS INTO SOMETHING POSITIVE The first step is self-awareness of the behavior of over-consuming to manage emotions.

The next step is deciding that this is not the most effective manner to handle emotions and then deciding that you would like to replace this behavior.

After this, a viable alternative is needed; something that positively impacts emotions.

This could be physical alternatives such as light physical activity, deep breathing, temporarily leaving a situation to regain composure and focus or mental approaches such as looking at alternative ways to interpret the events or look for options and resources to assist with managing the situation (responding versus reacting).

It is also important to recognize the objective is not to completely eliminate emotional eating; this is most often highly unlikely due to the long history that we all have with using food to manage emotions. The goal is the introduction of newer more adaptive options so the food becomes, "a thing you use, but not the thing you use to cope."

Individuals may also engage in other behaviors such as over consuming alcohol, disrupting interpersonal relationships, isolating from others, engaging in self-sabotaging decisions/ behaviors.

So, outside of rewarding yourself with food, how else can you focus your positive emotions?

One of the most important things to focus on is life balance. We all have experienced moments and periods when things were running smoothly. The objective is to make decisions and modifications in order to reinforce and sustain that state or efforts to reinstate it.

The recognition that over consuming food has not contributed to that positive balance in the past is also an important insight. It’s important to recognize that life balance does not always involve the absence of stressors and hassles in our lives, but being aware of non-eating options and choices to assist with the management of the emotions associated with those events.

The old paradigm had us study the dark and light sides of freewill through our experiences, but the endgame was to awaken us to our divine power as sovereign creators. We had to experience the dark to fully appreciate and live in the light.

The light of freewill shined brightly and gave us power when we used it in spiritually responsible ways that kept us aligned with true divine nature. Freewill was shrouded by the shadows of ego when we assigned blame to others for emotions we generated in response to life circumstances.

Now, as we pass through the gates of the new paradigm, it is time to integrate and live by the remembrance that we are creators of the reality in which we exist. We get to choose every single detail that delivers influence to our lives. We may not be able to choose how others conduct themselves, but we have the absolute ability to choose how we react, how we conduct ourselves, how we respond to the choices of others and what beliefs, thoughts and emotions we carry forward with us.

Since we create what comes next from what we recycle, it serves us greatly to be mindful of our perceptions, thought patterns and emotional reactions that we carry forward. Freewill is woven into the fabric of the soul. Therefore, we always have a choice. Each of us must decide what it is we are taking with us as we cross into the new paradigm and come to terms with whatever we are leaving behind.

ARIES (March 21-April 19): In defining the essential elements at play in a typical Aries person’s agenda, I’m not inclined to invoke the words “sometimes” or “maybe.” Nor do I make frequent use of the words “periodically,” “if,” or “ordinarily.” Instead, my primary identifying term for many Aries characters is “NOW!!!” with three exclamation points. TAURUS (April 20-May 20): I like Joan Didion’s definitions of self-respect. As you enter a favorable phase for deepening and enhancing your self-respect, they may be helpful. GEMINI (May 21-June 20): “Reality is not simply there; it does not simply exist,” claimed author Paul Celan. “It must be sought out and won.” I think that is excellent advice for you right now. But what does it mean in practical terms? How can you seek out and win reality? My first suggestion is to put your personal stamp on every situation you encounter. Do something subtle or strong to make each event serve your specific interests and goals.

My second suggestion is to discern the illusions that other people are projecting and avoid buying into those misunderstandings. My third suggestion is to act as if it’s always possible to make life richer, more vivid, and more meaningful. And then figure out how to do that.

CANCER (June 21-July 22): Wilma Mankiller was the first female Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. Myss would say you have squandered a learning opportunity: “You’ve harmed yourself by blocking your intuitive voice,” she writes. Now, in accordance with astrological omens, Capricorn, here’s your homework assignment: Regard every upcoming event as a chance to learn how to trust your intuition better.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): An Aquarian poet was disturbed when a suitor told her, “I’m really very fond of you.” She responded, “I don’t like fond. It sounds like something you would tell a dog. ver the years we have seen the evolution and advancement of cameras whether using your cellphone or an actual camera. So what are the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of each?

So where do things stand in 2022 when it comes to the digital single-lens reflex camera, often known as DSLR camera versus a cellphone camera? Many people assume that the camera on the current iPhone or Samsung flagship smartphone is as great as, if not better than, that of a DSLR. You'll be astonished to learn that it couldn't be farther from the truth.

When we look at the facts, we discover that there are many differences between the two.

In most cases, an ordinary DSLR is better as compared to the top cellphone camera. A real DSLR camera will provide better photographs and movies. That is not, however, the only factor to consider. A camera's weight and size might be an issue at times. Some people may find the price of a DSLR prohibitive, but they may easily finance a high-end smartphone with a decent camera through their phone service provider.

There are several reasons why someone would select one over the other, and in this article, we'll go over them all to help you make the best possible decision.

Cellphone Cameras Let's start where most people do; that is using your camera phone. The quality of your images is determined by the phone you have.

There are significant differences between camera phones. In most cases, the camera of a newer phone is superior. Your camera phone, no matter how wonderful it is, will never be as versatile as a digital camera. However, there are other aspects to consider while deciding which is best for you.

Other Advantages and Disadvantages: Convenience: It is convenient to use your cellphone camera. After all, you already own it and carry it with you. All you have to do is click, tweak, and upload the photo. No matter how much editing you do, you still have the benefit of having it all on your phone.

Fast: Along with convenience comes the advantage of saving time.

Easy: Cellphone cameras are primarily, if not entirely, automated. As a result, if you are not an experienced photographer, using a camera phone is a good option because it does not need any specific skills.

Affordable: You already have a cellphone, which has a camera. As a result, you are not purchasing expensive equipment. You also don't need to attend expensive photography workshops to capture a good photograph.

Furthermore, editing apps like Pic Monkey and the pro version of Lightroom don't require a computer or a subscription cost.

Limited: There's only so much you can do with a cellphone's camera automatic settings.

Certain lighting conditions make taking a good photo nearly impossible.

Poor Quality: Depending on your cellphone’s camera, the finest quality you can get maybe insufficient to produce excellent images.

Low Resolution: Low quality is OK if you only use your pictures on Instagram. However, if you want pictures for your website or blog, the poor resolution will not suffice. Furthermore, many businesses need high-resolution photographs for their websites.

because of the limitations of your cellphone’s camera, it might be time to look into digital photography.

Advantages and Disadvantages: Quality: This is the best option when high quality is essential. Your only constraint is your skills.

Versatility: To produce professional-looking images that you can be proud of, you may employ a variety of techniques. Low lighting, excessive brightness, it doesn't matter what the parameters are or what the situation is.

Beautiful photographs are yours to take if you have the right knowledge.

Cost: A low-end digital camera and kit costs between $400 and $500 and can cost up to $1000 or more.

Learning Curve: If you are not an experienced photographer, the learning curve is steep to begin with, such as recognizing parts, point and shoot automation, battery installation, and on/off. To learn anything beyond the fundamentals, you have to search Google and watch YouTube videos.

Time: The digital process requires a significant amount of time. You have more steps to get a picture assuming you know what you're doing (not considering the learning curve).

Differences between Cellphone Camera vs DSLR Camera Resolution Specifications: The resolution of an unedited DSLR image, for example, is 5184 × 3456 (there are more alternatives available), whereas the iPhone outputs an image at 3264 x 2448. The DSLR photograph catches more of the color range on the image, but the smartphone image is bleached off. It's worth mentioning once more that various devices have different capabilities.

DSLRs come as standard with more powerful anti-aliasing. It all comes down to how you interpret your subject and the conditions that surround it.

Camera Sensors: In comparison to DSLR cameras, smartphone camera sensor sizes are small. Even the most expensive point-and-shoot cameras feature bigger sensors. We don't mean pixel count, but rather the physical size of the sensor. You may have a smartphone with a 48-megapixel sensor, but it is just 5 mm (0.2 inch) wide.

This means that each of your 48 million pixels is merely 0.8 microns in size. The pixel size of a DSLR camera with a 48-megapixel sensor is much larger. A 'full-frame' sensor has a width of 36mm (1.41 inch). Each pixel is larger and more light sensitive.

Camera Lenses: The biggest advantage of a DSLR is the interchangeability of lenses. You can connect a 200mm lens as well as an 18mm lens to it, according on your preferences. It is not

possible with mobile cameras. Mobile phone lenses, like their sensors, are small. They are only 4mm wide and 0.2mm thick. This limits their capacity to take high-resolution pictures.

Again, convenience is in their size. It's far easier to bring your phone than your DSLR with a large zoom lens.

Image Processing: For true depth of quality, there is no comparison between an iPhone’s camera and a DSLR. Backend software processing is the reason that smartphone camera images look so good. As phone technology advances, so does digital camera technology. Image processing algorithms are packed into phones to compensate for the small sensors and lenses.

This technology manipulates your images to make them look the way the software decides they should.

Low-Light Shooting: When the lighting is poor, smartphone

cameras frequently produce poor images.

They may appear fine when seen on your phone's monitor. However, as you magnify them, the problems become obvious. Due to the way camera sensors capture light, DSLRs will always have an edge over mobile phones in low - light conditions. More sensors have larger photosensitive sites, which allows them to capture more detail about incoming light even when there isn't much of it.

Cellphone cameras have improved significantly over time. Manufacturers of mobile phones are attempting to reduce the differences between the cameras of their cameras and those of DSLRs. Sensor sizes have been upgraded. They have created numerous camera settings in smartphones to offset the lens changeability of DSLRs since most of them include a built-in macro, telephoto, wide-angle, and standard camera lens. As a result, the gap is narrowing, and smartphone cameras may eventually replace DSLRs. In the meanwhile, you'll have to rely on reputable brands' digital SLRs for superior photography.

“This bill would make lawful the possession, obtaining, giving away, or transportation of, specified quantities of psilocybin, psilocyn, dimethyltryptamine (DMT), ibogaine, mescaline, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetami ne, (MDMA) for personal use or facilitated or supported use, as defined, by and with persons 21 years of age or older. The bill further defines the allowable amount of these substances, who will facilitate this healing, a working study group that will educate the public on the safety and use of psychedelics, and the qualifications of the facilitator.

This psychedelic track was mind blowing.

Now how do I convince by conservative friends to decriminalize psychedelics?
