Palm Springs Pride Weekend is about to get even more fabulous with appearances by television actor and comedian extraordinaire Bob the Drag Queen, live at the Hotel Zoso with two shows on November 5 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The alter ego of non-binary comic and actor Caldwell Tidicue, “Bob The Drag Queen” describes herself as “hilarious, beautiful, talented and…humble.” Bob’s unabashed confidence won the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar” on season 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, multiple acting roles for HBO, Netflix, Sony Tristar, MTV, and VH1. The third season of Bob’s Emmy Award nominate HBO Max series We’re Here is also coming out at the end of 2022.

Additionally, Bob is an accomplished stand-up comedian with two solo specials and a starring role in the recent Netflix comedy concert film Stand Out, executive produced by Wanda Sykes. Sibling Rivalry, Bob’s podcast with comedy partner Monet X Change, is now on its sixth season and is also hitting the road playing major venues in the United States and Canada in the fall of 2022 and winter of 2023.

“I am very excited for Bob the Drag Queen to come visit and perform for the people of Palm Springs. Bob really feels like the right fit especially for Pride. Not just because of their crown from RuPaul’s Drag Race, but their activism and spreading of love and connection on HBO’s We’re Here,” said Executive Director of Entertainment and Events at Hotel Zoso, John Pirroni.

Pirroni’s job entails quite a bit at the Hotel Zoso. He is involved from beginning to end in terms of the planning and show process— starting with talent negotiations all the way up to show execution and staffing. Pirroni deems it a lot of responsibility, but the payoff is worth every minute. Pirroni credits the venues at the Hotel Zoso to be a factor that separates the hotel from others in Palm Springs.

“The venues are really special and really beautiful. Hotel Zoso has venues that not only

cater to different size crowds and atmospheres. They also cater to different types of talent and art, making it a really inclusive space for artists to create. What I love most about my job is making people happy. After all we went through with COVID, it is such a payoff to provide entertainment for people and see them happy, socializing and enjoying themselves,” stated Pirroni.

In addition to the shows by Bob the Drag Queen, the Hotel Zoso has an incredible weekend lineup planned, offering something for everybody. Pride Weekend will feature a tea dance pool party with drag legend DJ Lady Bunny kicking off the weekend. There will also be an all-live singing Drag brunch direct from Provincetown. Following Bob The Drag queen performing two shows, there will be an Underwear Party sponsored by Andrew Christian and a Piano Bar night with live singing entertainment. Deven Green will be hosting and judging the “biggest” bulge competition at the underwear party.

The party starts as guests join DJ LADY BUNNY and a roster of special performers from across the country as Hotel Zoso begins the celebration with a Pride Kick-off pool party. Work up a sweat dancing to the hottest hits and take the plunge and cool off in the pool. Enjoy incredible beverages from our Zoso Pool Bar, or grab a Bite at the outdoor Zoso Grill. Stay for live entertainment throughout the day.

Advance tickets are $20 General Admission

and $30 for VIP. At the door prices are $30 General Admission and $45 for VIP. General Admission includes in-and-out privileges and complimentary towels. VIP includes in-and-out privileges, complimentary towels, free light appetizers, private bar, and bathrooms in an air-conditioned VIP Lounge.

Attendees can also indulge in Brunch, Booze & Blasphemy with the devilish and delectable hostess with the mostest, Delta Miles. Cheer for song siren and compact dynamo Qya Crystal and revel in the power of Rafter Rocking Roxy Pops.

Tickets must be purchased in advance. Your Say Gay! Drag Brunch experience includes a tasty buffet of brunch favorites. Alcoholic beverages and soft drinks are extra. Pair all of this with daily breakfast buffets, having the grill fired up at the pool and cocktails everywhere, Hotel Zoso has you covered for an unforgettable Pride Weekend.

“Hotel Zoso is so central to everything in town. It has so many incredible venues within it and it could not be a better place to create a playground for all locals and tourists who are coming in for the weekend. We are looking forward to launching headliners here monthly, as well as creating a weekly Tea dance and having our live singing drag brunch ongoing!” shared Pirroni.

Corbin has been gracing stages with his memorable baritone and unique blend of traditional and modern country music for several years. The singer/ songwriter will perform at the Rising Stars of Country series presented by Big 106-FM and sponsored by Toyota of the Desert. The show starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 in LIT Lounge at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.

The concert series gives country music fans a chance to see incredible shows in a rare and intimate setting.

Tickets are $25 and go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 at the Fantasy Springs Box office, via phone (800) 827-2946, or online at www.FantasySpringsResort.com. Guests must be 21 years old to attend.

The Florida native, who boasts two No.1 singles with “A Little More Country Than That” and “Roll With It,” embarks on a new musical chapter with his recent signing to Stone Country Records. Corbin teams with industry veterans Benny Brown, Paul Brown and Jason Sellers as the label’s flagship artist.

Corbin says he and Music Row mainstay Benny Brown initially met and bonded over their mutual love of traditional country music. No stranger to the writing room himself, Corbin has penned songs with Sellers ahead of signing with the independent label. The singer, who has spent several years as an independent artist following nearly a decade with Mercury Nashville, says he’s in a great position being Stone Country’s flagship artist.

“They let me do what I want to do and let me be me, which is very important,” Corbin said.

Corbin’s neotraditional sound shines through on “I Can’t Decide,” his debut single for the label. Soaring pedal steel and eargrabbing fiddle accompaniment combined with a driving beat, plucked guitar rhythms and Corbin’s warm baritone further accentuate the up-tempo song.

Corbin wrote “I Can’t Decide” three years ago with producer Wade Kirby and esteemed songwriters Ashley Gorley and Rhett Akins. The singer, who American Songwriter has praised as “one of those rare, glorious voices that was made for singing country,” has been performing the song on the road since he wrote it and says “I Can’t Decide” always grabs the audience’s attention.

“I immediately knew it was something special,” he says. “It’s very contagious. I love the melody; I love the lyrics and to me it just feels like a hit.”

Label boss Brown thought the same. “Benny is very involved and ‘I Can’t Decide’ rose to the top,” Corbin says.

Corbin continues to write with longtime producer Carson Chamberlain as well as Kirby, Shane Minor, Adam Craig and Wyatt McCubbin, who he penned the romantic wedding song “Marry That Girl” with. Corbin says the past three years have allowed him to focus more seriously on writing music and finding the message he wants to convey to listeners on his forthcoming project.

“It’s about being authentic and that’s what I try to shoot for when I write or record,” he says. “I keep one foot in traditional and one foot in the modern and marry those two. That’s really been my motto through the years.”

Throughout his career, Corbin has amassed seven top 10 singles and three American Country Awards. Named Billboard’s 2010 Top New Country Artist, Corbin has never shied away from his traditional roots with “Your Big Sky” complimenting his “unapologetic and unwavering traditional country sound.” His self-titled debut album was named Country Breakthrough Album of the Year by iTunes Rewind Best of 2010 while American Songwriter has complimented the singer’s “warm, smooth-as-gravy-southern drawl.”

Along the way, Corbin hasn’t forgotten his roots. The young boy who grew up listening to Merle Haggard and Hank Williams with his grandparents remembers where he came from.

“I do love traditional country music,” he says. “That sound is what drew me to country music as a genre. One of my very first records

was a Merle Haggard album when I was a kid. The way he delivered a song, the emotion in his songwriting and in his voice, he was just the whole package.”

As Corbin embarks on his next chapter with Stone Country Records, the singer promises to honor those roots and says “I Can’t Decide” is just a taste of what’s to come.

“I think it’s a good mixture of the traditional and modern,” he says of the upcoming project. “It’s a good mixture of that up-tempo, midtempo, a few ballads here and there. That song is a good representation of what’s coming. I’m really fired up about this brand new opportunity.”

Tickets are $25 and go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 at the Fantasy Springs Box office, via phone (800) 827-2946, or online at www.FantasySpringsResort.com. Guests must be 21 years old to attend.

COMMUNITY

Incase you didn’t know, the nucleus of Son Of the Velvet Rat (SOtVR) is Georg Altziebler and Heike Binder. A native of Austria, Georg became obsessed with music at an early age, soaking up ‘60s Garage Rock & late ‘70s Punk, as well as the chansons of Jaques Brel and lesser-known American bands like Dead Moon and Green On Red. By the dawn of the 21st century, he had cycled through a series of bands and was in the process of putting SOtVR together when he met Heike, who was concentrating on visual arts at the time. She quickly became an integral part of the band, along with bassist Albrecht Klinger and drummer Muck Willman. In the ensuing years, SOtVR have released a series of well-received and toured the world. By 2015, Georg and Heike began splitting their time between Austria and Joshua Tree. Their ninth studio album, Dorado, took inspiration from their desolate, noirish surroundings. 2018 saw the release of a live effort, Show. Despite the pandemic restrictions, they completed their 10th long-player, Solitary Company, in 2021. The pair are on a short tour which culminates with their annual Furstwurld show. Then they’ll head back to Austria. Recently, I had a chance to catch up with Georg and Heike and they were kind enough to answer a few burning questions.

Eleni: You guys are gearing up for, what’s become an annual show for SOtVR at Furstwurld. Will your set consist songs of your latest album, 2021’s Solitary Company? Or will you be previewing new music?

Georg: “Yes, our set will include songs from Solitary Company and Dorado, which

Williams beatific vocals on the track “Blood Red Shoes.” To me, she is the Doyenne of the High Desert music scene. Have you ever considered collaborating again, or even producing an album of her music?

Georg: “It’s a wonderful memory. Victoria was just so sweet and gracious, and her voice sounds marvelous on Dorado. We’d love to collaborate again in the future. She is definitely the Doyenne of the High Desert music scene and a true legend.”

was released in 2017. But we will also play a few brand-new ones that will appear on the forthcoming album. Also, we have a few significant changes and additions to our instrument-list, probably most important being Heike on floor-tom percussion for a number of songs.”

Eleni: I know you split your time between Joshua Tree and your native Austria. What compels you to return to Europe just as the desert cools down, from the triple-digit temperatures?

Heike: “We love the desert and it’s a very inspiring place, but splitting our time between here and Austria somehow feels like the best of both worlds. Also, we are looking forward to playing live in Europe.”

Eleni: Can you tell me what first drew you to the high desert? The arid temperature isn’t for everyone. Does living here inspire

your music?

Georg: “I used to think geography doesn’t have any impact on songwriting. But then, the reference to places or landscapes can provide a kind of footing for a song. So, it makes it less ethereal and it seems like people can relate to it more easily. So, yes, the desert definitely influences the songwriting.”

Eleni: I was excited to see Jolie Holland is your special guest for the Furstwurld show. I loved her as part of the band, The Be Good Tanyas, as well as her solo stuff. What prompted you to add her to the bill?

Heike: “We’ve been fans of Jolie’s work for years. We got to know her personally when she was touring through the high desert. We feel honored that she will also sing on a few tracks on our forthcoming album.”

Eleni: I fell in love with you guys on your 2017 album, Dorado, which featured Victoria

Eleni: Finally, what’s in store for Son Of The Velvet Rat in 2023?

Heike: “We will release a new album in the Fall of 2023. Right now, we are in the mixing process with Gar Robertson at Red Barn Recorders in Morongo Valley. We feel very confident it’s going to be a great record.”

Eleni: Great, something to look forward to in the coming year. Thanks so much guys, I’m excited to a attend the Furstwurld show.

Georg & Heike: “Thanks Eleni. See you soon!”

Son Of the Velvet Rat will perform at Furstwurld Gallery/Performing Arts Center on November 4, 2022. Tickets available through eventbrite.com/e/son-of-the-velvet-rat-atfurst-wurld-417722458117. Flannels.

Stew. Pumpkin Spice. That’s right everybody — it’s finally autumn. You know I don’t restrict certain beer styles to a definitive time of year. One doesn’t exclusively need to drink porters and stouts in the winter. Summer isn’t just for pilsners. Fall, in particular, welcomes all types of beer. Want to crack open a milkshake IPA in the Palm Springs heat? Go for it! Eyeing that tart saison on a cool Rancho Mirage evening? I’m not stopping you. Whoever told you that you should only be putting back Märzens is wrong (but I would still recommend some good Märzens.)

I love this time of year as it allows me to put down the pumpkin and Oktoberfest brews to revisit some old favorites. Think of it as knocking on the front door and rekindling a relationship with a long-lost friend of sorts. There are still plenty of timeless classics on the shelves which are perfectly suited to our chilly in the morning and cool in the evening style of weather.

Stop 1. New Belgium Fat Tire. Our longlost cousin in Colorado is still churning out a beer that was so popular that consumers thought that the name of the brewery was “Fat Tire”. This beer was born on a bike. When New Belgium’s co-founder pedaled his way through Europe, sampling beer along the way, the tires on his mountain bike garnered glances and comments that inspired the name of the craft beer icon. The flavor profiles he discovered on that ride sparked the recipe for a beer he would begin to brew in his Colorado basement. It’s as good now as it has ever been and certainly worthy of a new test ride.

Stop 2. Karl Strauss Red Trolley. Back in the 1980’s, San Diego was void of the thriving beer scene it has today. The city had not seen fresh beer since Prohibition and the term ‘craft beer’ did not even exist. That didn’t stop Chris Cramer and Matt Rattner; two college buds determined to change the status quo. With the help of Chris’s cousin, Master Brewer Karl Strauss, that Karl Strauss Brewing Company opened its doors in 1989 to kick off the city’s craft beer industry. Red Trolley became the flagship and is still a benchmark for the style.

Stop 3. Bell’s Amber Ale. Bell’s Brewery is deeply rooted in homebrewing, their community, and sharing their craft with beer lovers old and new. Coming to Kalamazoo, Michigan to attend College, Larry Bell started homebrewing in the early 1980s and opened a homebrew supply shop in Downtown Kalamazoo in 1983. As more and more people were requesting samples of his beer, Larry began brewing commercially in a 15-gallon soup pot and opened Kalamazoo Brewing Co., which sold its first beer on Sept. 19, 1985. Amber Ale quickly became their

flagship beer. It’s another benchmark for the style and more than worthy of a visit.

Stop 4. Deschute’s Black Butte Porter. In1988, Gary Fish established a small brewpub in downtown Bend, Oregon and named it after the iconic waterway flowing through town, the Deschutes River (pronounced da shootz). With a belief that good beer brings people together, Gary founded The Deschutes Brewery & Public House as just that – a home for the public. A community gathering place, where friends, family and strangers could come together over some great food and a house-brewed pint of beer. Black Butte contains what I can only refer to as a ‘silky’ combination of chocolate and coffee which will remind you why Porter is not always playing second fiddle to Stout.

Stop 5. Sierra Nevada Celebration. It seems that Celebration makes nearly every list I make, so why deviate from the norm? Once they pick fresh hops, the clock starts ticking. Each year, after visiting the Pacific Northwest to hand-select the best Cascade and Centennial hops, they race the harvest home and brew immediately to capture

citrus, pine, and floral notes at their absolute peak; aromas and flavors for the perfect autumn beer. It’s a magical time at the brewery (has been for 40 years) when their brewers huddle around the fermentation tanks, toasting the start of a special season with a fall beer in hand. Cheers to the beginning of the holiday season!

Stop 6. Left Hand Milk Stout. It all started with a humble homebrew kit and the drive to make better beer. Tired of the same bland and dated choices everywhere, Air Force friends Eric Wallace and Dick Doore set out to make the kind of beer that excited them; beer they wanted to drink. A hobby quickly became an obsession and it wasn’t long before Left Hand Brewing was born in Longmont, Colorado. Over 26 years later, they’re still forging our own path with iconic brews like Left Hand Milk Stout…possibly the most-awarded beer in the history of the Great American Beer Festival.

So, there you have it. A perfect mixed six-pack to kick off the beginning of the new season in the Coachella Valley!

When Ed Heethuis isn’t brewing at Spotlight 29 Casino for 29 Brews, you will find the Certified Cicerone / Brewmaster out on his road bike, strolling in a pumpkin patch, or talking beer with the patrons at Taproom 29. He may be reached at: heethuis.ed@gmail. com or wherever beer may be found in the wild.

RIVAL SONS

“Pressure And Time,” the title cut from their breakthrough 2011 record. Ricocheting guitar riffs collided with boomerang bass lines, lithe keys and a Jackrabbit beat. As Miley pounded out a triple-time tattoo on his kit, the audience joined in with some spontaneous call and response, and Jay eloquently unspooled a catalogue of woes; “Take me out of this mudslide of never enough, let me eat from the fruit right off of the trees, when God gets his rest because six days are just too rough, I can only pray he doesn’t forget about me.” A stinging guitar solo, thready bass lines, fluid keys and a whipcrack beat brought it all home.

This week Rival Sons announced their that seventh long-player, Darkfighter, will arrive on March 10, 2023. Preceding the highly anticipated album, the Long Beach four-piece released a tantalizing, Tarantino-esque video for the first single, “Nobody Wants To Die.” You know you want to check it out on Youtube. Go ahead, this can wait a few minutes. You watched it twice, didn’t you? Recently, the band rewarded 150 exceptionally lucky fans with a free, secret show at The Peppermint Club in West Hollywood.

Rival Sons has been a going concern since 2009. Guitarist Scott Holiday, vocalist Jay Buchanan, drummer Michael Miley and original bassist Robin Everhart hit the ground running, by touring non-stop in Europe and America they quickly built up a passionate fan base. The Rock cognoscenti quickly caught on, and superstar acts like Aerosmith, AC/DC, Judas Priest and Kiss recognized that Rival Sons were as kindred spirits. A couple years in, Robin grew weary of the road, and left the band. Luckily, Son’s compadre, Dave Beste stepped in and has been anchoring the low-end since 2014. That same year, they began augmenting their live sound with Todd Ogren-Brooks on keys.

Over the last 13 years Rival Sons have released six long-players and an EP. From the jump, their sound was a supersonic comboplatter of Blues and Soul, hints of Folk and Country and ballsy Rock N’ Roll. This band has paid its dues, opening for Deep Purple, Lenny Kravitz and Guns N’ Roses. Their profile was raised exponentially when Ozzy and Sharon Osborne picked the Sons to be the only opener for Black Sabbath’s final world tour. Their 2019 record Feral Roots, hit #22 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart, and netted them two Grammy nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance. Fans were treated to a lean and mean, ninesong set on Tuesday, beginning with the onetwo punch of “Do Your Worst” and “Back In The Woods.” from 2019’s Feral Roots. On

the former, Scott’s signature opening riff splintered and squalled as sinewy keys and throbbing bass crested atop a bulldozing beat. Jay’s melismatic croon somersaulted into the scrum as he warned of a seductive stranger who will “blind your eyes, steal your tongue, he’ll take you when you’re old, but he likes them young.” Fans joined in on the irresistible shout-it-out chorus, as Scott unleashed a fuzz-crusted solo on the break.

The latter opened with Miley’s pummeling drum fusillade and was quickly supplanted by Scott’s snarling guitar. Grabbing the musical reins, the guitarist that the fans have dubbed The Fuzzlord, roughshod over Todd’s sylvan keys, Dave’s prowling bass and Miley’s primordial kick. Jay slipped effortlessly into the skin of a desperado on the run. His savage yowl was matched by the lyrics’ crafty and cunning guile; “That deputy don’t get paid enough, risking his life trying to catch me on this country road, we’re far from the city and this land is rough, now I’m taking him to a place that he don’t know, whoa I’m almost home, I’m back in the woods again, and I know this mountain like the back of my hand…” On the break, he cut loose with a stratospheric guitar solo that melted a few faces at the front of the house.

As a frontman, Jay has always managed to straddle the line between Dionysian Rock God and Soulful, Socratic thinker. That duplexity was on full display when the band revisited “Open My Eyes,” off their watershed LP, Great Western Valkyrie. A thick slab of heaviosity, the song was anchored by a walloping backbeat, ascendent bass lines and prickly keys. Scott pivoted between pyrotechnic electric notes and honeyed acoustic fills. Meanwhile, Jay’s keening and cathartic vocals ebbed and flowed across the see-saw beat, as lyrics like “Falling off the ladder, holy water hellhound, folding like a jack knife, but the truth, to myself you know it cuts to the bone,” longed for spiritual salvation and some emotional rescue.

Next up was a rawboned take on

A stuttery drum salvo signaled the intro to the Grammy-nominated Too Bad. Snakecharmer guitar riffs coiled around menacing bass lines, sinister keys and piledriving rhythm. The lyrics find Jay deftly excoriating a former flame; “I know you better than you think I do, you could’ve stuck with me, but I guess a girl’s got to do what she has to/But every now and then, my name passes your lips, your late night strolls down memory lane on your, your fingertips, do you miss me so much? Well, that’s too bad.”

At that point, the rest of the Sons peeled off the stage, as Jay picked up his acoustic guitar and took the audience to church, offering up a solo version of the anthemic Feral Roots closer, “Shooting Stars.” Part Gospel-inflected plea, part sanctified stomp, the lyrics judiciously takes a page from Michelle Obama’s playbook, suggesting that we go high, when they go low. Strumming his guitar as the crowd provided staccato handclaps between verses that deliver a potent message; “My love is stronger than yours, it’s stronger than yours, it’s stronger than yours, my love is stronger than your hate will ever be.”

The beautiful thing about live performance is songs that are succinct in the studio are given the opportunity to stretch out on stage. This has become especially true with the song “Feral Roots.” On vinyl, it was originally a track that celebrated Jay’s return to his rural beginnings, these days it has become the shapeshifter centerpiece of the ‘Sons live sets.

As Scott strapped on his double neck guitar, Jay began unfurling concentric rhythm riffs on his acoustic, rather quickly, bucolic keys feathered atop a ticklish backbeat. Scott teased out a few sugary notes as the opening verse set the scene; “On the mountain where I was born, there are trees that would call my name, on the wind, they would bring a song for every feral ear to claim/They’d say keep your eyes open and we’ll teach you how to dream when you are awake, well,

they haven’t spoken, since their branches were broken by the fire they to me to make.” The explosive chorus is juxtaposed by the meandering chord progressions between the verses. Scott toggled back and forth, latticing spacey, Prog-Rock riffs with the sort of chromatic harmonics favored by Jerry Garcia, before looping in a banshee wail solo. On the extended break, the Fuzzlord’s willowy wahwah floated like a butterfly and stung like a swarm of murder hornets. As Miley parried each guitar thrust with a Jazzy contrapuntal kick, Jay, Dave and Todd locked into a polyphonic groove that was simply hypnotic. Coming in at just under 10 minutes it was the evening’s tour de force. As the song powered down the audience was spent, but satisfied.

Eschewing that postcoital exhale, the band sprinted through the thunderous crunch of “Keep On Swinging” off their Head Down album. As buzzsaw guitars partnered with angular bass, spidery keys and a bonecrusher beat, Jay’s stentorian howl cut through the calibrated chaos, as he offered up a mantra that of personal perseverance that has served this band well; “One day, my prayers are going to be answered, so long I been hungry for something else, where there’s a will, there’s a way…I work hard, cause at the end of the day, the Lord helps those who help themselves.”

As the guys caught their breath, Jay sincerely thanked the audience, their label, Atlantic, as well as the venue and their crew. Then he slyly asked the crowd if they wanted to hear something new, and launched into Darkfighter’s apocalyptic first single, “Nobody Wants To Die. The song exhibited a Punky intensity that was mirrored by scorching guitar, guttural bass, frenetic keys and a locomotive rhythm. Provocative and cinematic lyrics like “The priest took off his collar started wearing it like a headband, he said ‘X’s and O’s fingers and toes now, you want to kiss a dead man, do you want to kiss a dead man?’” conjure up a vivid tableau. The action accelerated on the break as Miley’s percussive attack detonated like cluster bombs and Scott’s strafing licks threatened to spontaneously combust. As Jay brought it back to its cataclysmic conclusion the band stopped on a dime.

The show at The Peppermint Club was a gift to longtime fans, some, there from the beginning. Their mission has always been to “share the Sons.” Tuesday night, their loyalty was amply rewarded.

negative, with Dolby Vision HDR-HD Master Audio!

Norman Mailer referred to the novel and film adaptation as a “celebration of love, art and bohemian life… there is nothing like Henry Miller when he gets rolling.” The Catholic Church said it’s “morally offensive. A portrait of human depravity.”

QUIET DAYS IN CLICHY

In May of 1970, the United States Government seized the only Englishlanguage prints of QUIET DAYS IN CLICHY on charges of obscenity. And though it was eventually cleared in Federal Court, the film mysteriously disappeared shortly after its release.

Joey is a struggling writer with no money. His roommate Carl is a charismatic seducer with a taste for young girls. Together, these two insatiable dreamers will laugh, love and screw their way through a decadent Paris paved with wanton women, wild orgies

and outrageous erotic adventures.

Based on the controversial longbanned novel by Henry Miller and featuring the highly evocative and now iconic original music of rock legend, Country Joe McDonald. This film is widely considered to be the most daring film adaptation ever of one of the most controversial (notorious?) authors in history.

Now, more than 50 years later, this landmark ‘adults only’ classic can be seen in a brand-new restoration, scanned in 4K 16-bit from its recently discovered uncut and uncensored original fine-grain

LADY ON A MOOSE–ARCHER ROOSE THE VINO VOICE

Theone thing we particularly enjoy at the CV Weekly Tasting Room, is to enlighten our readers to the delicious new beverages on the market. We’re very judicious and will only recommend top quality quaffs. But you knew that already And, we also love a good story to go along with the product.

So who is Archer Roose? Archer Roose is named for a woman born at the end of the 19th century in New York City. The child of a bygone era, she rejected the social mores of her time, she was renowned for her absurd adventures and the friends she made along the way and has been known to travel the world atop a moose in search of the previously unknown and heretofore undiscovered. She was a favorite traveling companion of Teddy Roosevelt—that, you’ve probably figured out already

What is Archer Roose? Well—since you know this is primarily a wine column, you’ve probably figured out that it is a wine product—in vino scientia! So the info above and below is what we have gleaned from the website: archerroose.com, and, from Whalebone Magazine, a cultural publication that consistently produces humorous and thought-provoking stories.

Now enter Archer Roose, purveyors of chic slim-can, adventure-ready wines from around the world. Archer Roose was founded in 2015 by Marian Leitner-Waldman and her husband, David. The wine company, we are told, is dedicated to producing affordable luxury wines with minimal intervention: thus, they went with the concept of a traveling vineyard.

Marian has shared on media her insightful story on how she came to discover wine while living in Spain and how that discovery set her on a mission to democratize the fine wine industry; and, by the way, create/ perpetuate the “lively” story of the “famed” Archer Roose! In vino veritas, est!

“Archer Roose was a rebel of the Gilded Age who traveled the world with boundless curiosity, living by her own rules. The original oenophile, she explored far-flung regions on a quest for the best wines made from the finest ingredients.”

“Our wines tell the stories of the places she visited, and our logo — Archer atop her moose — reminds us that adventures, like wine, should be a little whimsical. Her spirit lives on in our wine company dedicated to the boundary pushers and feather rufflers— and to the community of like-minded people you meet along the way.”

Instead of building a winery and committing to a specific geography and varietal, the couple wanted to offer wines from the most-renowned regions around the world. So, they fostered personal relationships with small, adventurous winemakers who preserve terroir, and approach viticulture with craftsmanship and deep respect for the environment. Through these close partnerships, we’re able to produce unique, natural wines within 20 miles of their harvest location and bring them to you.

Marian and David again inform, “We continue the tradition of our namesake, Archer Roose’s intrepid spirit: scouring the globe for sustainable, luxury libations. Journey with us by experiencing our collection of consciously crafted, worldly wines.”

And of course, in the brave new world

of wine—winemakers are sustainably cognizant. “We package our wine in formats that are recyclable and minimize waste. And, a single-serve can allows you to enjoy one glass at a time, eliminating the unfinished bottle at the end of the night.” Cans are 80% less landfill and 60% less carbon footprint than traditional bottles.

“Our wines are made with no animal fining or clarifying agents, added sugars, or artificial flavoring or coloring. Our grapes are farmed without the use of harmful herbicides or pesticides, and with minimal intervention in the cellar. Wineries are not required to disclose any of the 70+ legal additives they can include in their wine. You should know exactly what you’re drinking, so we share everything that goes into our wine.”

And now: Archer Roose’s comments on their current portfolio:

Bubbly: Crisp and dry. Fruit-forward notes of pear and apple. White flowers on the nose. Our sparkling white wine hails from Veneto, Italy: the birthplace of prosecco. This perfect blend of glera (40%) and garganega (60%) grapes is fruity and refreshing. Top your Aperol Spritz or sip at brunch —because bubbles are best.

Bubbly Rosé: Fragrant and seductive, with aromas of rose, white fruits, and wild strawberry. Our Bubbly Rosé is from Veneto, Italy, one of the most famous sparkling wine regions in the world. A blushing stunner, this refreshing sparkling rosé wine is made from the perfect blend of Glera (90%) and Pinot Noir (10%) grapes.

Pinot Grigio: Fresh, bright scents of white flowers, citrus fruits, aromatic herbs, and the sea.

Sauvignon Blanc: Tropical citrus and grapefruit notes with a balanced minerality.

Malbec: Dark ripe fruit, with notes of vanilla, blackberry, and plum. Refreshing with a lingering finish. Slip away to the “Napa Valley of South America” with our Argentine Malbec — a hallmark of the famed Mendoza region. Our soulful interpretation of this classic red wine is grown in lush vineyards overlooked by the Andes.

Archer Roose comes in Four-Packs and can be found at most markets at reasonable prices from $13 to $16.

When a periodical asked the company’s founder, “When is the best time to enjoy your wine?” Marian responded, “Archer Roose is best paired with aprés ski, book clubs and all lazy days with friends.” Cheers!

PET PL ACE DAISY, A DELIGHTUFL DOG!

she raced out into the yard to enthusiastically greet them. She bounced up and down and followed them as they entered the building. Richie recalls, “We fell in love on the spot. We spent an hour visiting with her. It immediately felt like she was part of our family. We named her Daisy, and she is the sweetest most loving doggy anyone could ever ask for. Loving All Animals is an amazing organization!” The charming dog had a giant smile instinctively knowing she was soon going to her forever home

Enroute home they stopped off at Bones & Scones and purchased a pair of booties to protect Daisy from the hot pavement. Next stop was an outdoor patio restaurant where Daisy garnered lots of attention and more human fans.

In a recent update, Richie tells us, “The highlight of having her is how much joy Daisy brings to our household. We wake up in the morning and play games with her. When we arrive home she attacks us with kisses. She has a huge following in the neighborhood

and in local cafes. She’s such a good girl and wants to greet people and other dogs. Our vet estimates she is only 6 years old”. Her charismatic photos on Facebook are priceless.

There are numerous Chihuahuas at our county shelter in Thousand Palms, the Coachella Valley Animal Campus, including the adorable one pictured below, www.rcdas. org. There are almost always Chihuahuas at Loving All Animals, www.lovingallanimals. org, (760) 834-7000.

Daisy’s message is “Adopt a Chihuahua! I hardly bark at all except when I need to protect my home. Please don’t go to a breeder and spend thousands of dollars for a Chihuahua when there are so many of us of all ages in shelters!”

Greatthings come in small packages, and a once homeless 6-pound Chihuahua brings amazing joy these days. The little stray dog was desperately running through the streets in the hot summer when a Good Samaritan scooped her up and brought her to the Loving All Animals shelter. She had no ID tag or microchip to identify an owner.

They named her Gidget. The organization provided veterinary work that included stool sample check for parasites, vaccinations, Rabies vaccine, and spay surgery. Her veterinarian estimated her age to be 8 years. Given that small breed dogs can easily live 15 years or longer with good medical care, she was middle aged. Chihuahuas and Chi blends make up the largest group of small dogs in public shelters, and limiting their numbers is critically important. Gidget was a happy pup, enjoying the company of other dogs, staff, and volunteers.

However, Chihuahuas suffer from a bad reputation, usually unwarranted. Prospective fosters and adopters often call in, “I want to get a small size dog, anything but a Chihuahua!” There is a stereotype some

people believe that Chihuahuas are snippy and bark too much. Gidget’s story tells us that each dog is unique, and stereotypes can keep us from getting to know a variety of dogs we can fall in love with.

Chihuahuas originated from the State of Chihuahua in Mexico. They are best known for their big erect ears and prominent eyes. Their personality is similar to terriers, fearless, devoted, and loyal. Initially bred for companionship, they were also used for their ability to hunt rats.

The dogs became more popular after the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and some greedy breeders sought to cash in on more profits with more reckless breeding. Accidental breeding by Chihuahuas kept outdoors made their population soar. We see rows of Chihuahuas and Chi mixes in public shelter kennels. Sadly, they get passed up for meet and greets where they could display their charming personalities.

Sometimes a dog orchestrates its own adoption. Richie Wood and Ido Barbibay arrived at the Loving All Animals shelter to meet a different dog. Gidget was inside the lobby, and when they knocked at the door

TOP GROSSING HALLOWEEN FILMS OF ALL TIME

five years. The 2018 reboot, Halloween, was made on a modest budget of $10 million and became the most financially successful film in the series with ticket sales of $255 million. By erasing anything that happened in all prior sequels, this reboot captured the terror that Mike Myers originally represented and brought Mike Myers to a new generation of horror movie fans.

Danny Elfman, to score the film. At a cost of $84 million, this film earned $160 million at the box office with one sequel was made.

When thinking of Halloween movies, first thoughts often go toward some of the scarier films like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Chuckie and Freddie. When it comes to success at the box office, a lighter, more family friendly film is more successful. If that film includes Tim Burton or Danny Elfman, all the better.

You may find it hard to believe but the 1995 film Casper is the highest grossing Halloween film of all time having generated $298 million at the box office. At a cost of $55 million, Casper was the first film to use a computer-generated (CG) lead character in a feature length film. It took two years to complete the digital characters in the film. One two-minute scene took eight months to complete. As a number of cheaply made, direct to video Casper movies followed the blockbuster, a big-budgeted CG film was not in the cards.

If you consider 2000’s Scary Movie as a Halloween film, it is the second highest grossing Halloween film with $278 million at the box office. The film includes Jamie Lee Curtis in a parody of her Halloween role. This Wayans brothers film cost only $19 million to make and led to four Scary sequels.

Mike Myers and the Halloween franchise have twelve films made in over nearly forty-

Sleepy Hollow was released in 1999 and grossed $206 million at the box office. Produced by Scott Rudin, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp, this $70 million film won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction and was nominated for Cinematography and Costume Design. The film won two awards from the British Academy for Production Design and Costume Design while being nominated for Visual Effect. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films found this to be one of its most nominated films with Danny Elfman winning for Music Score and receiving a total of twelve nominations.

The ultimate Halloween family has to be The Addams Family. Currently preparing for a reboot on Netflix next month, the 1991 film grossed $191 million. Producer Scott Rudin originally wanted Tim Burton to make this movie but Burton was too busy making Batman Returns. Barry Sonnenfield took over the $30 million project while Marc Shaiman produced the film’s score and soundtrack.

Do you remember the Goosebumps book series of the 1990s? This children’s horror book written by R.L. Stine was turned into a movie in 2015. Tim Burton was originally going to direct this film. Rob Letterman ended up in the director’s chair and used Burton favorite,

The animated film Monster House grossed $141 million with a cost of $75 million. Produced by Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg, the film garnered an Academy Award nomination as well as a Gold Globe nomination for Best Animated Feature. The American Film Institute added this to its Top 10 List of Animated Films.

The Corpse Bride is a stop-motion animated musical that comes in eighth on this list. This Tim Burton film generated $118 million at the box office at a cost of $40 million. ParaNorman is another stop-motion animated film made at a cost of $60 million while generating $107 million at the box office.

Rounding out this list is the Christmas/ Halloween film, The Nightmare Before Christmas. This 1993 film cost $24 million to make, generated $92 million at the box office and millions more in toys, games and media.

SHOULD COVID CANCEL HALLOWEEN?

Willyou celebrate Halloween this year? Will kids go Trick or Treating? Will you give out candy? Many say it is still too dangerous. Maybe the Living Desert Party is the answer?

We are considering turning the lights out and not having candy. My wife says, leave a bowl of candy for kids to take. I said one kid will take all the candy and nothing will be left, and we should cancel Halloween. After all, many kids have NOT been vaccinated and we have lost to many friends to Covid in the last few years.

However, the danger goes beyond Covid. There are more kids running across the streets without looking. Of course, in the CV we poor street lights.

Most people don’t realize other things happen on “All Hallows Eve”? Sure we all grew up Trick or Treating and bringing back bags of candy, but that is not all that happens on Halloween. Danger lurks and it is not just COVID.

Do you think Halloween danger is just about kids and candy and Covid? Did you know, kids are twice as likely to be hit by a car during Halloween? Will you dress your kids with reflectors, light colored clothes and a flashlight? Will you instruct them not to take loose candy, without a wrapper?

What about your kids entering a home? Some homes invite the kids in for the candy and demand a trick while the adults drink. Watch your kids! This is a different world from the one many of us, of a certain age, grew up.

Many use the evening as an “excuse to party and drink”. They leave the party impaired and they are an accident, or a DUI, “waiting to happen”. With all the kids running/darting into the streets, it is also more likely to be a very serious accident. … which means the DUI could be a Felony.

We should all have a designated driver or take Uber or Lyft. Did you know that in the CV, we have more DUI fatalities than anywhere else in California…Per Capita.

So, if you are driving home after drinking, and hit a kid, there are two things that may cause you to need a lawyer. If arrested for a DUI, or are injured in a not at fault accident, you must hire a lawyer.

In both instances you ask the question, “who do I hire to help me that will be both competent and honest… and who has the experience to do a good job for me.” For years I had a talk show entitled “Accidentally Yours” that addressed that question.

On each show I would suggest, that “people don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan”.

The last thing you want is to have to make a major decision like that, under pressure. Thus, my advice is to Plan Now! Decide now who you would call if you or a friend were arrested for a DUI or were in an accident.

We all keep the names and number of vendors to assist us in case of an emergency…a plumber, an electrician etc. Why not add to that list the lawyer you would call so you can make an intelligent decision now, and not when you’re pressured!

In both instances the best thing you can do is to Keep Silent. Silence is Golden and Handcuffs are Silver when it comes to interrogation on a DUI or questions by an insurance adjuster after an Accident case. I always advise my clients to say they would be happy to talk after their lawyer gives them permission to talk. Thus, you use your lawyer as a strawman, so that you are the good guy and the lawyer is the bad guy who has told you not to talk.

You should talk to your lawyer first and stay OFF of Facebook and SOCIAL MEDIA. Social media has made it very easy for police investigators and insurance adjusters to learn about YOU. It is not always what you say…but rather what the police or insurance adjuster THOUGHT s/he heard you say.

If you have been in an accident and tell the doctor you hurt everywhere and can’t do anything, then you certainly do not want

the wrong person to see you talking about playing golf or tennis or carrying luggage on a trip. Likewise, you do not want the wrong person to read your comments about the accident or your impaired driving.

So, the Moral of the Story is… DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE, CALL A TAXI OR UBER…… IT IS A LOT CHEAPER THAN HAVING AN ACCIDENT OR DUI AND CALLING ME……SO DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER DURING HALLOWEEN.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD MUSCLE?SENDMEATRAINER

Building muscle is a major fitness goal for many people, for good reason. Adding muscle mass can help you with functional strength, injury prevention and some of the negative effects of aging. Basically muscle is your Cushion that protects you from injuries and holds your frame.

But do we really know how long it takes to put on some lean muscle? it actually takes a long period of time – at least a month, but probably longer – to see muscle gains of any significance. Patience is a key ingredient for adding muscle, especially if you are new to weight training

Let’s first breakdown what muscle building is:

Any form of resistance or strength training, also can be bodyweight exercises or weights, to break down your muscle fibers. This process creates microscopic tears that are essential for building muscle. Those damaged muscle fibers stimulate satellite cells for growth factors for muscle repair.

This eventually leads to a greater amount of muscle over time.

What type of training would “Send Me A Trainer” recommend? An effective resistance training routine should incorporate a combination of high-load, low-rep exercises and high-rep, moderate-

load exercises that constantly overload your muscles.

The question is how much muscle can you realistically gain in one month?

We don’t want to have high expectations and get disappointed after seeing no results right?

For most beginners, gaining 2-4lbs of muscle per month is a realistic rate of muscle gain. More advanced lifters should aim to gain 1-2lbs of muscle per month, as

research has shown slower rates of muscle gain the more advanced a lifter becomes.

It’s worth mentioning that people who have more muscle burn more calories, in general, because they have more tissue that requires fuel.

Ok so how do we start?

First we need to understand your current fitness level. Are you a beginner, intermediate or advanced?

A great way to start a strength training

program is three times a week, with at least a full day of rest in between. Pick four to six exercises and start with eight to 10 repetitions of each.

You can build muscle with any type of exercise, but if you want to see those gains faster, strength training is the way to go.

If you need help with building muscle and the safest yet effective way possible, “Send Me A Trainer” is always here to help.

AN ADDED SAFETY CAUTION THIS HALLOWEEN!

adult. To ensure that kids can participate, have adults make the needed cuts and ask children to dig out pumpkin seeds or refine the edges of cuts with a spoon. If you are working with very young children, skip the knives all together and decorate pumpkins with markers, glitter glue or paint.

Use flameless candles. They are safe, inexpensive, and just like the real thing — without the fire risk. If you insist on using real candles, place candlelit pumpkins on a sturdy surface away from curtains and other flammable objects. Never leave candlelit pumpkins unattended.

tampering with candy is rare, it is best to inspect all candy before letting your child eat it. (This will also ensure you are regulating how much they are eating!). Discard torn packages, unsealed treats or anything that just does not look right. For young children, remove gum, peanuts, hard candies, and other choking hazards. And watch out for ingredients that may trigger food allergies.

WithHalloween just weeks away, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is warning parents to check your children’s candy very closely this year.

Calling it an “alarming emerging trend,” the DEA said “rainbow fentanyl” — brightly colored pills containing the highly dangerous and toxic drug — is a new method drug dealers are using to make fentanyl look like candy to children and young people.

The trend among adolescents follows a wider one. Annual drug overdose deaths have reached another record high in the United States, with an estimated 104,288 in the 12-month period ending September 2021, according to provisional data published Wednesday by the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics.

Rainbow fentanyl comes in a variety of bright colors, shapes, and sizes — even some resembling sidewalk chalk — and is a “deliberate effort by drug traffickers to drive addiction amongst kids and young adults.”

As an extra layer of precaution, drug enforcement agents are asking parents to check your children’s candy very carefully this Halloween. If you see something suspicious, call 911 immediately.

As firefighters, we have seen the spooky side of Halloween — and I am not talking haunted houses. No, it is children out on the streets at night, often wearing costumes that restrict their ability to see and be seen. It’s candles being used carelessly in jack-olanterns or children carving pumpkins while unsupervised by an adult. It is lots of people traipsing through unfamiliar yards and neighborhoods.

In fact, most kids are killed or injured crossing the street on Halloween than any other night of the year.

Halloween can be both safe and fun — it just takes a little planning. No costume needed. Here are some tips to consider:

Carve safely! Carving pumpkins can be tons of fun for kids, but make sure that all carving activities are fully supervised by an

Ensure others can see your children. If possible, create costumes out of bright colors. But if you must go over to the Dark Side, place reflective strips or tape in strategic places on your child’s costume, much like equipping a bike with reflectors. You can also consider clipping a flashing bike light onto their treats bag. Several companies make small, lightweight, inexpensive lights that can be used for these purposes.

Ensure your child can see others. A mask can obstruct your child’s peripheral vision, increasing the chance that they will trip or bump into objects.

Do not let children under the age of 12 trick-or-treat alone. Enough said!

Set ground rules for older children. No one should leave the house without agreeing when to be back and what route to use. Provide them with a cellphone and a flashlight with fresh batteries and review basic safety rules, including staying with the group, walking only on the sidewalk, approaching only clearly lit homes, and never going inside a home or car for a treat.

Inspect treats before indulging. Although

Make your house trick-or-treat friendly. Do not be that one house on the block that everyone is afraid of because the dog barks and lunges at people and the porch light is out. Before it gets dark, clean up the yard and the walkway and check to ensure the outside lights work. Place the pets in a safe room away from the front door. If the doorbell bothers your cat or dog, tape over it and keep the door open so you can see trick-or-treaters coming and meet them. And remember that black cats left outside on Halloween can become targets for mischief; best to bring them in.

Which way? If your older children are going alone, plan and review a route acceptable to you.

Time management. Agree on a specific time children should return home.

Situational awareness! Teach your children never to enter a stranger’s home or car.

Make your Cell phone a ghost. Children and adults are reminded to put electronic devices down, keep heads up and walk, don’t run, across the street.

SWAGFORTHESOUL

CREATING A FIELD OF EXISTENCE

Whenyou are looking to build or create anything, it is helpful to have a defined space in which to create. If you are baking a cake, you need a pan to contain all of the ingredients. If you are building a house, you need a plot of land. If you are opening a business, you need a space in which to operate.

What happens though when you are looking to create something that is not necessarily tangible? What if you are building a friendship, or building trust with someone new? What if you are nurturing a romantic relationship? A designated space is not something that is required to do these things. Or is it?

We may perceive physical spaces differently than energetic spaces, but in the context of creation, they are both critically important to outcomes.

Imagine trying to bake a cake without a pan. It would be very difficult, if not impossible. The pan, in the case of the cake, is your designated space for incubation. When the cake is cooked it has come into form and reached manifestation, but it needed to be contained and supported until that point. The same holds true for any creation, even ones that cannot be seen, touched, or verified by the physical senses.

The quantum field is our field of existence and represents a container for all of our collective creations, seen and unseen. This field of existence is anchored into specific coordinates within the Universe, and where all of our human creations are cured. We can’t see it, but it is there, and it would be difficult, if not impossible, to bring our creations to fruition without it.

We can actually claim a little plot of etheric real estate in this quantum container once we become aware that this is possible. We already do it unknowingly when we buy a house or a cake pan, for that matter. We claim those spaces and use them to cure our creations. A house or a cake pan are physical expressions of energy, but we can also do this with energetic spaces that cannot be seen or purchased.

It is really easy because all you need is a little imagination. Just draw a shape in your mind and put that shape somewhere, such as your back yard, the park, or at the beach. Express your intent to direct the energy of good feelings and thoughts which support your intended outcome to that shape. Each time you and your co-creators devote energy to that creation, your energy will be captured and held safely in that quantum field of existence where it will “cook” until it comes to fruition.

WEEK OF OCTOBER 27 © Copyright 2022 Rob Brezsny

ARIES (March 21-April 19): Of all the rich philanthropists in the world, Aries author MacKenzie Scott is the most generous. During a recent 12-month period, she gave away $8.5 billion. Her focus is on crucial issues: racial equality, LGBTQ+ rights, pandemic relief, upholding and promoting democracy, and addressing the climate emergency. She disburses her donations quickly and without strings attached, and prefers to avoid hoopla and ego aggrandizement. I suggest we make her your inspirational role model in the coming weeks. May she motivate you to gleefully share your unique gifts and blessings. I think you will reap selfish benefits by exploring the perks of generosity. Halloween costume suggestion: philanthropist, Santa Claus, compassion freak.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): What animal best represents your soul? Which species do you love the most? Now would be a good time to try this imaginative exercise. You’re in a phase when you’ll thrive by nurturing your inner wild thing. You will give yourself blessings by stoking your creature intelligence. All of us are part-beast, and this is your special time to foster the beauty of your beast. Halloween costume suggestion: your favorite animal or the animal that symbolizes your soul.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): During the tyrannical reign of Spain’s fascist government in the 1930s, Gemini poet Federico García Lorca creatively resisted and revolted with great courage. One critic said Lorca “was all freedom inside, abandon and wildness. A tulip, growing at the foot of a concrete bulwark.” I invite you to be inspired by Lorca’s untamed, heartfelt beauty in the coming weeks, Gemini. It’s a favorable time to rebel with exuberance against the thing that bothers you most, whether that’s bigotry, injustice, misogyny, creeping authoritarianism, or anything else. Halloween costume suggestion: a high-spirited protestor.

CANCER (June 21-July 22): If the trickster god Mercury gave you permission to do one mischievous thing today and a naughty thing tomorrow and a rascally thing two days from now, what would you choose? Now is the perfect time for you Cancerians to engage in roguish, playful, puckish actions. You are especially likely to get away with them, karma-free—and probably even benefit from them—especially if they are motivated by love. Are you interested in taking advantage of this weird grace period? Halloween costume suggestion: prankster, joker, fairy, elf.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Everyone’s mind constantly chatters with agitated fervor—what I call the ever-flickering flux. We might as well accept this as a fundamental element of being human. It’s a main feature, not a bug. Yet there are ways to tone down the inner commotion. Meditation can help. Communing with nature often works. Doing housework sometimes quells the clamor for me. The good news for you, Leo, is that you’re in a phase when it should be easier than usual to cultivate mental calm. Halloween costume suggestion: meditation champion; tranquility superstar; gold medalist in the relaxation tournament.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): “Education is an admirable thing,” said author Oscar Wilde. “But it is well to remember that nothing worth knowing can be taught.” What?! That’s an exasperating theory. I don’t like it. In fact, I protest it. I reject it. I am especially opposed to it right now as I contemplate your enhanced power to learn amazing lessons and useful knowledge and lifechanging wisdom. So here’s my message for you, Virgo: What Oscar Wilde said DOES NOT APPLY to you these days. Now get out there and soak up all the inspiring teachings that are available to you. Halloween costume suggestion: top student.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): To celebrate Halloween, I suggest you costume yourself as a character you were in a past life. A jeweler in first-century Rome? A midwife in 11th-century China? A salt trader in 14th-century Timbuktu? If you don’t have any intuitions about your past lives, be playful and invent one. Who knows? You

might make an accurate guess. Why am I inviting you to try this fun exercise? Because now is an excellent time to re-access resources and powers and potentials you possessed long ago—even as far back as your previous incarnations.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): I guess it would be difficult to create a practical snake costume for Halloween. How would you move around? You’d have to slither across the floor and the ground everywhere you go. So maybe instead you could be a snake priest or snake priestess—a magic conjurer wearing snake-themed jewelry and clothes and crown. Maybe your wand could be a caduceus. I’m nudging you in this direction is because I think you will benefit from embodying the mythic attributes of a snake. As you know, the creature sheds its old skin to let new skin emerge. That’s a perfect symbol for rebirth, fertility, transformation, and healing. I’d love those themes to be your specialties in the coming weeks.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): “I need my sleep,” proclaimed Sagittarian comedian Bill Hicks. “I need about eight hours a day and about ten at night.” I don’t think you will need as much slumber as Hicks in the coming nights, Sagittarius. On the other hand, I hope you won’t scrimp on your travels in the land of dreams. Your decisions in the waking world will improve as you give yourself maximum rest. The teachings you will be given while dreaming will make you extra smart and responsive to the transformations unfolding in your waking life. Halloween costume suggestion: dancing sleepwalker; snoozing genius; angel banishing a nightmare; fantastic dream creature.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Recently, my mom told me my dad only spoke the Slovakian language, never English, until he started first grade in a school near Detroit, Michigan. Both of his parents had grown up in the AustroHungarian Empire, but immigrated to the United States in their youth. When I related this story to my Slovakian cousin Robert Brežny, he assured me it’s not true. He met my dad’s mother several times, and he says she could not speak Slovakian. He thinks she was Hungarian, in fact. So it’s unlikely my dad spoke Slovakian as a child. I guess all families have odd secrets and mysteries and illusions, and this is one of mine. How about you, Capricorn? I’m happy to say that the coming months will be a favorable time to dig down to the roots of your family’s secrets and mysteries and illusions. Get started! Halloween costume suggestion: your most fascinating ancestor.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): My Aquarian friend Allie told me, “If a demon turned me into a monster who had to devour human beings to get my necessary protein, I would only eat evil billionaires like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg.” What about you, Aquarius? If you woke up one morning and found you had transformed into a giant wolf-dragon that ate people, who would you put on your menu? I think it’s a good time to meditate on this hypothetical question. You’re primed to activate more ferocity as you decide how you want to fight the world’s evil in the months and years to come. Halloween costume suggestion: a giant wolf-dragon that eats bad people.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Do you value the feeling of wildness? Is that an experience you seek and cultivate? If so, what conditions rouse it? How does it feel? When it visits you, does it have a healthy impact? Are you motivated by your pleasurable brushes with wildness to reconfigure the unsatisfying and unwild parts of your life? These are questions I hope you will contemplate in the coming weeks. The astrological omens suggest you have more power than usual to access wildness. Halloween costume suggestion: whatever makes you feel wild.

Homework: Here’s another Halloween costume suggestion: Be the opposite of yourself. Newsletter.FreeWillAstrology.com

CANNABISCORNER

Can gateway drugs initiate and trigger substance abuse? Let us investigate how our bodies work with drugs and even food. The definition of a gateway drug is a substance that triggers the body, when consumed, to crave more of that drug or food. When gateway drugs and certain foods are consumed, it unlocks something in the body’s gene and epigenetic DNA; delivering a compound already present in the body, which is dopamine and several other hormones.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter and precursor of other DNA substances including epinephrine. These hormones are coined “the feel-good hormones”. The bodies miraculous neuro messengers, the hormonal compounds that can give a body relief of pain or a euphoric feeling within a state of being.

Once these hormones are released by our body’s glands within the bloodstream, the hormones act on your bodies organs and tissues controlling the way you function and feel. Hormones are a powerful driving force within the makeup of the human body. The human body consist of about one-hundred trillion cells. Imagine each one of these cells, which carries its own nucleus, meaning a little brain that trigger the messengers or neurotransmitters of the body; to produce the feel-good hormones. Wow! The human body is a powerful organic machine!

The Four Feel Good Hormones:

Dopamine-a compound present in the body as a neurotransmitter and a precursor of other substances.

Serotonin-a compound present in blood platelets and serum, which constricts the

meaning that the participants didn’t react well with the cannabis treatment, where some of the participants showed signs of addiction to cannabis with high amounts of THC. Yet, the genetic architecture of each participant was not clear. However, genome identification is being studied to see who is at risk for cannabis addiction. However, 70 percent of participants showed a positive reaction to cannabis when treating an ailment.

blood vessels and acts as a neurotransmitter.

Endorphins-hormones secreted within the brain and nervous system. These are peptides which activate the body’s opiate receptors.

Oxytocin-is a peptide hormone and neuropeptide usually produced in the hypothalamus and is released by the posterior pituitary. It plays a role in social bonding.

What does this mean for the human gene pool? What this means is that our bodies are made up in ways that can be addictive or not addictive. The study of identical twins, adoptees, siblings, and fraternal twins associates that less than half of someone’s high risk of addiction to drugs, alcohol, and food is dependent on her or his genes. Scientists and research suggest that the biological makeup is key to someone having

and creating an addictive behavior.

A study of identical twins with the same genetic blueprint, showed over time with nature and nurture; when these twins were exposed to choices- their genes created a memory database within the cells structures. These cellular memories are the mark of epigenetics, which means that new created habits can be copied by our human gene pool and passed down to future generations. Therefore, it’s important for humanity to create healthy habits and healthy behaviors with all medicines, foods, and alcohol. This includes cannabis, coffee, tea, CBD, and kombucha as well. Please note, especially for chronic illness sufferers always confide with you doctor. Also, I know at some deep level of consciousness we are all doing the best we can with what we have been taught and what our genes are predisposed too…

What is key here is the choice we make for treating our body when we are sick. The key here is when your body is diseased with illness it is not at ease. Therefore, your body is telling you to take care of itself. When given choices for any type of healing regiment one needs to take in consideration if they have a family gene pool with the disposition of addiction and make a responsible choice as how you and your doctors will target treatment.

Research: Is there a gene linked to Cannabis Addiction?

It has been documented in a nationwide discrete cannabis trial among chronic sufferers; that 2,300 cases among 49,000 controls; that less than 30 percent of the trial participants showed that there was some problematic use with cannabis medicine;

Further, genetic research indicates that the cerebellum of the brain is involved in many of the cannabis disorders. Yet, because of cannabis studies, and the study of epigenetics; scientist soon will be able to pinpoint the genome marker of one’s body; to custom fit a potential best medicine option for that patient.

Key Points to Remember:

Genes are functional messengers of DNA that create the genome.

Genes have the information that command the body’s cellular movements.

Genes, known as mutations, cause diseases in patients.

Gene sequencing finds a connection between a known gene and a disorder of genes.

Your health is determined by your genes and your environment. (Nature & Nurture)

Epigenetics is the study of how humans inherited genes and changes in the regulation of gene activity expressions.

Researchers are studying genes to create targeted medications for everyone.

Scientist and research have come a long way in identifying many of the body’s hormones, genes, and how epigenetics plays a key roll in how our cellular memory bank evolves. Because of many cannabis trials and studies, science is beginning to identify genomes in the body that will teach us what could be a best option when treating any ailment. The human body has existed for thousands of years and now science is learning how to fine tune many of the key components to genes and its God particle.

Remember when using any cannabis medicine please consult with your health care provider.

Note: Awareness and Mindfulness is key to many of the body’s needs.
