Visitors also have the opportunity to win their favorite Miniature Masterpiece by purchasing raffle tickets in person or online—priced at five dollars each and thirty dollars for seven / 75 dollars for 21. Raffle ticket sales will close on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 5 p.m. Winners will be notified on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

The freedom to creatively express inner thoughts and dreams is an appealing factor in the act of pursuing art. Old Town Artisan Studios in La Quinta perfectly encapsulates that message and encourages community involvement with its various programming they organize throughout the year.

This season, Old Town Artisan Studios is looking for participants for the Miniature Masterpiece art show and fundraiser. This event celebrates local, regional, and statewide artists who generously donate original artwork in support of Old Town Artisan Studios. This year, Miniature Masterpiece is presented in the Leland

Gallery at Old Town Artisan Studios from November 17 to December 17, 2022.

A variety of paintings, photographs, prints, sculptures, and mixed media works will be on display and up for raffle. The public is invited to the opening reception on November 17th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

“Creating art is therapy, self-discovery, and offers so much to a person’s overall well-being. Practicing art is very important in helping process our emotions and expressing our ideas. Art is not solely about making something appealing… it is transformative to the artist and can even inspire those that view it,” stated Business

Another artist call is for the 2023 Eggstravaganza, where hundreds of ceramic eggs are transformed into works of art and then auctioned off to raise funds for the Outreach Program of Old Town Artisan Studios. The collection features artists from the local community, as well as artists from across the nation. The show is presented both online and in person, in the Leland Gallery on the Old Town Artisan Studios campus.

Hundreds of talented artists partner with the studio to help spread art enrichment throughout the Coachella Valley. One hundred percent of the proceeds are used to fund the extensive outreach art programs. By participating in the auction,

public donations go directly to serving afterschool programs, special needs classes, activities for people with disabilities, and more. Within the last two years, Old Town Artisan Studios has been able to provide over 50,000 art experiences to the local community.

“Bids can be made towards any of the eggs and the event allows us to display a special collection made by some of our students in the outreach program. It is quite inspiring to have so many artists come together to help benefit our outreach arts program. People find it enlightening to know that when they participate in our fundraiser, they are helping to give back to the community. Many artists and visitors alike are quite excited to participate and see the works each year!” shared Hansen.

The Healing & Hope for the Homeless in

The Morongo Band of Mission Indians gave away a record 15,000 free turkeys this week to nonprofit groups, churches and charities from across the Coachella Valley and Southern California as part of the Tribe’s 36th Annual Thanksgiving Outreach Program.

The turkeys donated this year will provide nearly 300,000 holiday meals to families, seniors and veterans in need. Since the program began, Morongo has given away more than 175,000 turkeys, which in turn have provided an estimated 3.5 million holiday meals.

“Morongo launched our Thanksgiving Outreach program more than three decades ago to help those struggling to put food on the table,” said Morongo Tribal Chairman Charles Martin. “The last couple of years have presented unprecedented challenges for so many, and we are humbled to be in the position to help those in need.”

Tribal members and volunteers gathered at the Morongo Community Center from Nov. 14 - 16 to distribute Thanksgiving turkeys to 116 nonprofit organizations, such as food pantries, churches, homeless shelters, schools and veteran groups from

across Southern California.

Groups receiving turkeys hailed from Banning, Beaumont, Riverside, San Bernardino, Moreno Valley, Temecula, Desert Hot Springs, Indio, Redlands, Los Angeles, and other communities. The groups will use the turkeys to provide hot holiday meals to those in need or will distribute the birds in holiday meal gift baskets with additional side dishes to help feed thousands of people who otherwise would not have been able to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner this year.

“The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is busier than ever this year, and with the

economy the way it is, we’ve had to double the amount of those we are providing food boxes to,” said Darla Burkett, executive director of the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission. “We are so very grateful to the Morongo Band of Missions for their generous support in allowing us to feed hundreds of people in need this holiday season.”

Other non-profit groups who received turkeys included the Los Angeles Rescue Mission in Los Angeles, Victory Outreach in Banning, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Food Pantry in Desert Hot Springs and Carol’s Kitchen in Beaumont among others. (more)

Angeles received 300 turkeys to help feed the homeless this holiday.

“During this very difficult and uncertain time, Morongo’s commitment to helping those who are less fortunate is always consistent,” said Karen Collins, Volunteer Coordinator of the Healing & Hope for the Homeless. “We are so thankful for the 300 turkeys that Morongo has gifted to Healing & Hope for the Homeless for those in need of a warm and delicious holiday meal.”

Pastor Victor Archuleta of Victory Outreach Church in Banning said the 300 turkeys provided by Morongo will help struggling families enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner together.

“Morongo’s Thanksgiving Outreach Program has been the gift that keeps on giving to the families in need across the San Gorgonio Pass,” Archuleta said. “The blessing of a warm meal from Morongo provides a light of hope to many who are struggling.”

For nearly 40 decades, thousands of veterans and military families have benefitted from the tribe’s Thanksgiving Outreach program with turkeys donated to local chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and other military support groups.

“Morongo’s generosity never ceases to surprise our military families, especially during the holiday season,” said Todd Sieja, President and CEO of the Western Eagle Foundation in Temecula. “Year after year, they help provide delicious thanksgiving meals for our veterans to enjoy and share with their loved ones.”

To receive turkeys, participating groups submitted applications to the Tribe and were notified over the summer that they had been selected. For organizations interested in receiving turkeys next Thanksgiving, applications for next year are due in Spring 2023.

THE

If you were a Rock & Roll fan in the mid ‘80s, the pickings were slim. Punk had mostly remained underground, New Wave existed on the margins, Hair Metal was in its ascendence and the charts were littered with toothless Pop hits from Lionel Richie, Miami Sound Machine, Heart and Eddie Murphy (!). For every “Sledgehammer” from Peter Gabriel, “Manic Monday” from The Bangles, or “Kiss” from Prince, it felt like there were a million vapid songs from the likes of Nu Shooz, Starship, Boston and Sly Fox clogging the airwaves via Top 40 radio and MTV. That’s why the emergence of The Smithereens felt like such a breath of fresh air.

Jersey Boys Jim Babjak (guitars) Dennis Diken (drums, percussion) and Mike Mesaros (bass, vocals) had been pals all through school, graduating from Cateret High School in 1975. A few years later, they connected with Scotch Plains native Pat DiNizio (lead vocals, guitar) when he placed an ad in The Aquarian Weekly, looking to start a band with like-minded musicians who drew inspiration from Buddy Holly, Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello and The Clash.

The four-piece made their bones playing countless bars and clubs on the East Coast and Self-released their first EP, Girls About Town via their own label, D-Tone Records. Three years they were back in the studio recording a second Extended Play, Beauty And Sadness, which began receiving airplay on College radio.

By 1985, they sent a demo to Enigma Records, an indie label that focused on Punk, Alternative, Heavy Metal and Techno. The gambit paid off and they recorded their first long-player, with production from Don Dixon (R.E.M., Dumptruck, Tommy Keene). Especially For You arrived in 1986. A watershed album, it distilled all their influences into a heady elixir that managed the neat trick of sounding fresh, yet familiar. A couple of singles, “Blood And Roses” and “Behind The Wall Of Sleep,” garnered airplay on MTV and more adventurous radio stations and began climbing the charts. The album reached #51 on the Billboard Hot 100.

After touring extensively, the band returned to the studio with Don Dixon to create their second full-length effort, Green Thoughts. They had also taken the leap from tiny Enigma Records to industry giant, Capitol Records, (original home of the Fab Four). Recorded and mixed in an astonishing 16 days, it deftly sidestepping the dreaded sophomore slump, by doubling down on the winning formula established on Especially. The record spun off three hit singles and hit #60 on the charts.

More excellent albums followed: 11 arrived in 1989, Blow Up in 1991 and A Date With The Smithereens in 1994. The band took a five-year hiatus and closed out the 20th century with God Save The Smithereens. For the next decade or so, they concentrated on honoring their influences, recording albums dedicated to The Beatles and The Who along with live sets and even a Christmas album.

In 2015, Pat suffered a couple of serious falls that resulted in some nerve damage. He continued to experience health issues and, sadly, passed away in 2017. A year after his death, The Smithereens chose to soldier on, touring with simpatico guest vocalists like Singer-Songwriter Marshall Crenshaw and Gin Blossoms frontman, Robin Wilson. Recently, the band dusted off some tapes that were originally recorded while they

SMITHEREENS

“THE LOST ALBUM” (SUNSET BLVD. RECORDS)

This album is front-to-back perfect, but three songs really stand out. First up is the swaggering “Monkey Man” which is anchored by fuzz-crusted guitars, sinewy bass lines and a piledriving beat. Somewhat cryptic lyrics walk the straight and narrow; “I try to roll with the punches, I try to ease up the fall, but when the monkey man calls me I ain’t worth nothin’ at all.” Until the specter of addiction creates a destructive distraction. Jim rips a scorching, Stonesy solo that belies impotent confessions like “I want to lead a good life, I want to live my life free, but when the monkey’s around, I’m my worst enemy.” If The Beatles and The Monkees had ever collaborated, it might sound something like “Face The World With Pride.” Stacked, syncopated harmonies crest atop ringing, stinging guitars, rubbery bass lines and a hiccupping beat. Lyrics offer up some not-so altruistic advice to a beautiful girl; “It’s such a heartless game, and such a wicked shame, that you’re believin’ all the same old lies/And you just can’t pretend that things are different when his passion’s not the same as your desire…Face the world with pride.” The rollicking arrangement makes room for a Rockabilly-inflected guitar solo that simply crackles with authority.

were between record deals in the early ‘90s. The result is aptly entitled The Lost Album. The record crackles to life with “Out Of This World.” Slashing power chords scratch and scuffle, colliding with growling bass lines, a tambourine shake and a bludgeoning beat. The lyrics address a local femme fatale, itemizing both her vices and her virtues; “It seems there’s always someone waiting there for you, you think you’re moving but you’re stuck in reverse, you know that no one’s ever gonna ignore you, you keep saying things just couldn’t get worse/She’s got two chips on her shoulder, she’s never happy until she’s in a fight, last time I was with her I told her, I just want to get loaded tonight.” The verbal disdain is leavened by sugary guitar riffs that weave between the verses.

Although The Smithereens sound usually remained within the Fab Four/Buddy Holly confines of the Power Pop paradigm, they skillfully add new textures and colors to their sonic palette on three tracks. Take “Pretty Little Lies,” which opens with this philosophical nugget; “Life is not a long and quiet river, sometimes things don’t work out like you planned, there is always bad news to deliver, there are things we just don’t understand.” Courtly guitars wrap around thrumming bass, tinkling, glockenspiel-y percussion and a thunking beat. Pat’s sing-song delivery and the genteel melody nearly camouflage the bitterness and betrayal contained in verses that catalogue the detritus of a failed relationship; “One used toothbrush, pencils and a notepad, things you left here made me think of you, now I see them and it makes me so sad, got to go, there’s better things to do.”

“A World Apart” is a canny crosspollination of Country and Rock fueled by see-sawing guitars, descending bass lines and a kick drum beat. Of course, thinkin’ and drinkin’ are the main ingredients of many a classic Country weeper, and the first verse sets the scene; “I been drinkin’ every night since you’ve been gone, and I still run to you

each time I hear the ringin’ of the phone, they say you always hurt the one you really love, and I fit the part, now I can’t stand to live another day a world apart.” Guitar notes chime and ring on the break, echoing the crisp economy of Beatle George Harrison and Buck Owens’ Buckaroo, Don Rich.

Much like Tom Petty’s “Into The Great Wide Open,” “Stop Bringing Me Down” mines those moments when small-town expectations collide with big city disappointment. Sludge-y guitars tangle with primordial bass lines and a cavernous, big beat. A chance encounter at the corner bar stirs resentment on both sides; “See that guy at the bar, moved to L.A. and learned how to play guitar, he’s a big rock star.” But envy is supplanted by a cold dose of reality; “Had a band, had management, had a record deal but it came and went, it’s too late/Met a girl from Beverly Hills, I did all her drugs and she paid all my bills, it was great.” Monster guitar riffs ooze menace as they shadow each verbal thrust and parry.

The action slows for a couple of cuts, “Love Runs Wild” and “Don’t Look Down.” The former is cocooned in shivery acoustic licks, quicksilver bass and an even-keeled beat. Pat’s tentative croon is matched by hushed harmonies. Lyrics parse the vagaries of romance; “Love may come to those who wait, if you try enough, tears will fall and hearts will break, I guess that makes it tough.” A skittery, sitar-iffic guitar solo washes over the break, magnifying starry-eyed tsuris

On the latter, jingle-jangle guitars partner with boomerang bass and a rat-a-tat beat. Despite the doom and gloom, lyrics manage to slyly name-check an old Fortunes hit single; “Here comes that rainy day feeling again, it follows me around like a friend.” Honeyed harmonies envelope self-help mantras like “Why are the rain clouds inside my head, try walkin’ in the sunshine instead,” Vroom-y guitars on the break nearly succeeds in elevating the Eeyore vibe before the song stutters to a halt.

Finally, tongues are firmly in-cheek for the faintly Right-said-Fredded “I’m Sexy.” Slithery, sidewinder guitars collide with scuzzified bass lines, flowery Hammond B3 and a chunky backbeat. Instead of suffering from being too sexy for his shirt, so sexy it hurts, our hero experiences the sting of rejection and takes his tormentor to task ; “Listen to me please and I will give you some advice, I’ll say it very carefully, I won’t repeat it twice, the way you treated me was mean and never justified, someday you’ll be old and then you’ll have to pay the price because I’m sexy…” Prickly guitar chords cluster on the break splintering and spiraling counter and clockwise, leading into an irresistible shout-it-out chorus. As the song winds down, jaggy guitar riffs spontaneously combust on the outro.

Other interesting tracks include the lovelorn “Dear Abby” and “Everyday World” which echoes ‘60s touchstones like The Byrds, The Kinks and The Zombies. The record closes with “All Through The Night,” a feathery lullaby fueled by acoustic chime, angular bass, ethereal keys, distorto electric riff-age and clanky tambourine. Lyrics attempt to banish the monster under the bed; “Don’t you know things will be alright, I will be there with you all through the night, little darling, don’t you be afraid of the night, don’t you cry, it’s okay to turn out the light, little baby, nothing’s going to harm you tonight, close your eyes, daddy’s home, now everything’s right.” It’s a tender and heartfelt end to a great record.

Recorded during a tenuous time in the band’s history, just as they severed ties with Capitol Records, but before they’d secured a deal with RCA, the songs they wrote and recorded are sanguine and self-assured. The Lost Album, is sorta presented as an odds and sods collection, but these songs still display their keen sense of songcraft. Their music never sounds old-fashioned, dated or obsolete. There’s a beauty and sadness to The Smithereens’ sound that remains timeless.

YOUNG SPIELBERG

Not everyone is a Spielberg fan. Yes, he’s the most successful film director on the planet, but does his financial success translate to best director, or best storyteller? Is he a better filmmaker than Quentin Tarantino, William Wyler, David Lean, Billy Wilder , Frank Capra and/or Ridley Scott -- among others?

THE FABELMANS

I suppose Spielberg’s track record makes it easy for him to get the backing to make a movie about himself and his early obsession

with movies – watching them and making them.

This film is a love letter to the movies in much the same way as Tarantino’s “ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD,” but with less bloodshed.

We all relate to movies. They are the common pool from which we all drink. And in conversation later share our personal experiences and connect with our tribe or community. Theaters are where we can face our fears in a safe place (before the pandemic anyway) and indulge our wildest fantasies and bond in laughter and screams with our fellow humans. It’s where we discover and embrace our shared humanity.

Spielberg has created pop culture cinema from his childhood fascination about flying saucers and dinosaurs and we have rewarded him for his technological and artistic (?) prowess. His childhood dreams and fears are

not his alone.

“THE FABELMANS” is a coming of age story of someone who has impacted the planet’s population with his “art.”

The best parts of Spielberg’s latest film are the moments when we witness events in his young life that will eventually be an element

of the hit movies we love.

But more than that, this cinematic memoire is a loving tribute to his parents, especially his supportive mom, wonderfully played by Michelle Williams.

It’s a long, often self-indulgent film, with a dazzling ending that is almost worth the price of admission.

Now showing. Check local listings. And see it on a bigger screen than the one in your home theater. If you are in the mood for a good looking sentimental film that burnishes the often self proclaimed myths of Spielberg’s early years, (Surprisingly, there’s no mention of his diagnosed autism which might be a factor in his success as a highly visual artisan. An immediate newscast of the wine purchases in this 2022 holiday season will show that rosés are selling at a record pace! You’d think after a prolonged summer here in the desert, where rosés were selling at a record pace, the prettyin-pink movement would have subsided and the big winter seasonal reds would start to take over. Well—it hasn’t happened yet!

Not that we need to explain such a pink phenomenon, but there are more rosés on the market than ever before. Every winery in town and on the earth is producing a rosé! Geez—even the first wine that my son Paolo and I made in our “wine kitchen” was a rosé; a Muscat rosé, to be certain, made from the grapes given to us by the Galleano Winery in Mira Loma.

Another reason we do not have to figure out, is that rosés—still wine, bubbly or otherwise, go wonderfully with holiday fare. From cranberry sauce to game birds, from escargot to oyster stuffing, from Festa dei sette pesci to Tripe a la Caen, rosés are here to stay throughout the holidays! Cheers!

Now comes….one of the most favorite rosés on the market shelf: a bottle and label that is universally recognized as de rigueur on the seasonal dining table. (Hyperbole you may say? Well try saying de rigueur!) Anyway—let’s get back to the Rosé of the day: Of course it is the famous Whispering Angel Rosé made by Provençal winery Château d’Esclans.

Okay—at around $23 or so for the bottle, when it comes to the opinion of rosés, most enthusiasts either love it/like it—or find the luxury brand to be overrated or a bit pompous because it’s cool to be seen with that bottle in hand. Fun stuff, no matter what.

Three years ago we reviewed the 2018 Whispering Angel and wrote: “comes across very fresh and on the mineral side of fruity, along with citrus notes, some tangerine, jasmine, cherry and a hint of watermelon. And there’s a kick of mouthwatering salinity on the finish. It’s certainly deliciously dry to the end.” We’ve become fans of the wine and don’t believe it to be a status thing—but you do look cool with that bottle in hand.

As to the new 2021 Whispering Angel release, we wish to be a bit more thorough, i.e., wordy, since there are so many rosés out here and you vino voters are so savvy when it comes to your pink quaff. For starters, the winery notes state, “Aroma—A beautifully pale pink, which is pleasing to the eye and draws one in. Palate—Fresh red berry fruit characteristics with floral notes. Ripe and fleshy feel on the palate. Finish—Great concentration….smooth and round finish. No astringent aftertaste.”

We’ll get to our personal review & comments in a bit, but let’s get you pink punkers caught up on the qualities of the wine: the grapes are grown from the most precious grown in and around the region of La Motte en Provence. Most of the grapes utilized are Grenache, Cinsault, and what the French know as Rolle; the Italians know

this grape as Vermentino—isn’t knowledge powerful?

We can get really wordy—or, rather really nerdy and talk about how the Château d’Esclans’ Harvest takes place each September from sunrise to noon to avoid the heat of the day. During the Harvest, grapes, at their ripest, are selected, picked and carefully placed in small (10 kilo) crates, the size of which is chosen in order to avoid too many grapes at the top crushing grapes at the bottom of the crates.

Then, Once the grapes arrive to the cellars, they are sorted manually and then go through optical eye sorting, which is programmed to detect whether grapes correspond to the established criteria. Grapes which do not are rejected. As the individual juices from corresponding Barrels and Vats are selected and placed into half bottles, the technical team will taste through these unique juices and they will start to form opinions for which wines they should be used to make the new vintage.

Next is overseeing the blending for Chateau d’Esclans wines by the Technical Director and Cellar Master who will collectively form a final determination that will be made relative to that information provided by the technical team. While there is little variation vintage to vintage, the cepage or percent/ types of different grape varieties that will make up the ultimate blend will differ with each new vintage however the taste profile remains the same.

Okay—time to give the highlights from our CV Weekly tasting panel’s comments: On the aromas, there are melon, strawberry, cherries and pear notes along with lavender, cloves and minerality. Similar notes meld into the palate along with watermelon and red fruits. It’s medium-bodied, fresh acidity but creamy as well. It’s an elegant, perfumed quaff.

So, we all like it and we will indeed see the bottle on our Thanksgiving table. Cheers! To you and yours!

PET PL ACE A MIRACLE TRANSFORMATION FOR CLYDE

Todd brought him meals which the fearful fellow would not eat until Todd left the room.

Trainer Jim Turcott consulted with Todd by telephone with training strategies. Jim advised Todd it could take up to 4 weeks for Ryder to recover, but Jim was optimistic, and Todd was ready for the challenge. He advised Todd to pick up Ryder and carry him through the home. Wrapped carefully in a towel Ryder was quiet and passive as he surveyed the rooms. He improved to the point where he would lay on the bed and watch television with Todd. He moved closer to Todd, and eventually cuddled. With skill, love, and patience the process took 3 weeks. Todd describes it, “He changed, it was like a light switch turning on.”

Some adopters would have retuned Ryder to Loving All Animals, relieved to be rid of the “nuisance”. The traumatized animal would have regressed further back at the shelter. Love and perseverance won out over fear. Todd was patient, and working from home made it easier to handle the situation. Todd says, “If Ryder hears something he doesn’t like such as a loud boom, I tell him ‘it’s ok buddy’ and he is fine. I finally heard him bark one day when a friend came over.”

This is a story about a miracle second chance, a story of redemption, a story about love and patience. Like humans, dogs who have been traumatized can heal over time, but for one small rescue dog it was a longer journey to overcome the past.

Kirk Geiger with Animal Rescue Center of California received information about a large number of dogs living in squalid conditions outside an Indio home. Some of them, including a group of young puppies, stayed underneath the home seeking shade from the scorching desert sun. Kirk’s team included Lisa Fein Blodgett, local animal advocate, who agreed to foster the puppies

and the several small adult pups. It was no surprise the dogs had received no prior veterinary care and were kept like trash in the messy yard.

Loving All Animals was contacted by Geiger to take a pair of Terrier/Chihuahuas. Bonnie and Clyde were transferred to LAA’s small dog shelter in Coachella where they occupied the same yard and kennel space overnight. Bonnie was shy but approachable. Clyde assumed a guarding posture and barked furiously at people who approached him, retreating anxiously even when offered treats. He was no candidate when potential adopters visited, though he happily greeted Lisa when she visited him at the shelter.

Sometimes someone shows up in your life and everything changes. Todd Brune came to the shelter one day and then returned to make a commitment on his second visit. This happy adoption photo shows Todd actually holding the dog he now calls Ryder. It seemed like a happy ending for both, as Todd missed his pup who recently passed away. However, it took awhile for the happy ending to unfold. Unfortunately, a large Cicada bug flew out of a back yard tree in Ryder’s new home shortly after his arrival hitting him in the head. The incident triggered something. The pup retreated underneath an end table in the living room refusing to come out, even to relieve himself. The dog was silent and still.

We will never know Ryder’s history. Thank you to the team who gave him a bright future…..Kirk Geiger, Lisa Fein Blodgett, Jim Turcott, Todd Brune, and the staff & volunteers at Loving All Animals.

Spiraling klieg lights and a line wrapped the corner from the Plaza Theatre heralded the return of a Palm Springs tradition last weekend, one remindful of the fabled Police Show, Desert Circus and the Bob Hope Classic Jam Session.

Rock the Plaza, a benefit for the restoration of the historic theater, featured famous local musicians calling on talented friends to perform for the benefit of their neighbors.

But, instead of it being Hope or Frank Sinatra calling on Dean Martin or Bing Crosby, this was Spike Edney, music director for Queen, and Brian Ray, guitarist for Paul McCartney, recruiting their Palm Springs neighbors, including Paul Rodgers, lead singer of Bad Company and Free, and Matt Sorum, a drummer for Guns N’ Roses and The Cult.

They secured Josh Homme, leader of Queens of the Stone Age who was born in Palm Springs’ Desert Regional Medical Center. They featured Alice Cooper, who regularly plays celebrity golf tournaments in the Coachella Valley and has his own syndicated slot on KWXY Music Radio.

Along with Orianthi, the shredding guitarist who also got a star turn with Ray and Edney’s Palm Springs All Stars band, the local celebrity musicians raised more than $200,000 from ticket sales and sponsorships for the restoration.

After proceeds are counted from a silent auction and costs for the tech crew and catering are paid, the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Foundation should be just $3.7 million shy of reaching its seemingly impossible dream of raising $16 million to restore the Plaza to its original 1936 luster and have an endowment to maintain it.

“I think it’s safe to say we’ll be north of $300,000 when it’s all said and done,” said foundation board president J.R. Roberts. “We may do better than that.”

The foundation will continue to present events at the Plaza until construction starts, which Roberts optimistically says could

ROCK THE PLAZA BENEFIT EVENT

Rock the Plaza. The evening’s second song, by Orianthi, was Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe” with vintage video of the ’60s and ’70s duo in the background. It harkened back to when Sonny Bono opened the first Palm Springs International Film Festival at the Plaza in 1990 with a 10-minute laugh-filled introduction.

Orianthi also sang Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made For Walking” as video of that part-time Rancho Mirage resident looped in the background.

Homme, wearing a black shirt and coat with a red handkerchief in his lapel, introduced himself by saying, “Hello everybody, I’m the mayor of Palm Springs.” Then he launched into David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” which he recently performed at a memorial tribute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Homme said backstage he brought his “whole family” to the show. He seemed happy to return to the theater where he watched “Dirty Harry” as a kid.

theater included in a mix of community fare.

“We’re not committing to anything right now,” said Roberts. “But I want to hear from all of them. The more I do, the more I learn.”

To facilitate that, Roberts said he’s created a subcommittee “to research management and operation plans.”

Edney and his wife, Kyle Verwers, executive producer of Rock the Plaza, hope to promote more Plaza shows with elite desert musicians.

“That was Paul (Rodgers’) first gig since before COVID,” said Edney. “He seemed to be having a great time, so I’m hoping next time I pick up the phone and ask him, he’ll say yes again. There are other people who passed on this. Their arrangements didn’t work. I’m hoping if there’s enough of an excited buzz, I can go back to (Palm Springs-based actor) Gary Oldman. I really want to get actors who sing to perform. There are so many of them who play in their own bands -- Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Southerland. I would like to see an actor-music night where the Palm Springs All-Stars brings this kind of thing because nobody does that.”

Creating a buzz about the Plaza and its past Palm Springs legends was a mission of

“Yeah, I was traumatized,” he joked, “but look at me now.”

He only sang one original song, “I Sat By the Ocean” from the 2013 Queens of the Stone Age LP, “…Like Clockwork.” He and Orianthi also performed the Frank and Nancy Sinatra duet, “Something Stupid.” He even sang the station ID for the former oldies station, KDES.

Alice Cooper sang his hits and had the crowd singing along to his anthem, “School’s Out.” The audience stood and sang to Rodgers’ hits, ending with the Free classic, “All Right Now.”

“The creation of the vibe was basically the idea,” said Edney. “Back before COVID, when we started talking about doing this, half the problem was the theater had been forgotten because it had been dark for so long, and you start thinking about it with nostalgia, a backin-the-day thing.

“That’s only part of the story, though, isn’t it? The theater is eternal if you want it to be. So, it was more of a case of saying, ‘Let’s get people to recognize that the theater is there.’

“The theater is going to be there. It’s going to be used for all sorts of things. That’s the real message.”

A STABLE GENIUS

Most lay the historically poor underperformance by the GOP in the mid-terms at the feet of former President Donald Trump. Despite a $100 million war chest that Trump had raised that cannot be spent on his own campaign, he contributed very little to the election efforts of Republican candidates. In contrast, Mitch McConnell pumped more than $200 million into the midterms to help get Republicans elected. When you add to that the 2020 election denying fringe candidates that Trump helped in the primaries and you can see why most in the GOP blame the poor performance on Trump.

As Trump senses his loss of influence on voters and the Republican Party, Fox News and other once supportive news outlets, he was quick to remind people that he is smarter than us with this post on Truth Social:

“Remember, I am a Stable Genius.”

Given the wanna-be emperor’s proclamation, let’s go down memory lane and revisit some of his other Bizarro-world statements.

“I’m intelligent. Some people would say I’m very, very, very intelligent.”

In a 2009 GQ issue, Trump said, “My wife says I’m the biggest star in the world. She might just be saying this because she’s intelligent.”

Thinking back throughout history, I do not remember Albert Einstein reminding us about how smart he was smart decade after decade. I think Einstein proved his intelligence through his actions. Or maybe not. Einstein only had theories, he never built anything. Probably a loser.

Here is Trump’s analysis of climate change:

“The concept of global warming was

created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”

I think what this Stable Genius is trying to say is that the majority of global warming occurs because of industrial activity in “Chgina” where they do not have the same environmental restrictions as us.

Despite laws to the contrary, Trump believes that he can declassify a document by simply thinking about declassifying a document and never documenting these thoughts. At the same time, he must have also waved a hand that allowed the taking of some of our country’s most secret information as something that he could keep for his own purposes. On taking the documents illegally:

“It doesn’t have to be a process. It can be

a process but it doesn’t have to be.”

Most people are hoping that we have sane options to President Biden or Trump in the 2024 Presidential race. On the Republican side, it looks like Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has the mass appeal, youth and lack of baggage to make him a safe and sane option. Sensing a loss of his grip on the Republican Party, Trump said this:

“Governor Ron DeSantimonius. An average REPUBLICAN Governor with great Public Relations.”

That harsh statement was said just prior to election day. It is as though, this Stable Genius wanted to reduce DeSantis’ margin of victory. Just before the mid-terms, Trump said this:

“I will tell you things about him that won’t

be very flattering,” said Trump to Rupert Murdoch’s The Wall Street Journal. “I think if he runs he could hurt himself very badly.”

The core problem with Trump is that he is a selfish narcissist who cannot behave in a civil manner and does not care about anyone other than himself.

Let’s take a brief look at some inappropriate personal attacks on people:

On Samuel L Jackson: “Cheats” at golf and is “not athletic.” “Does too many TV commercials – boring.”

On Don Lemon’s interview of LeBron James: “He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do.”

On the magician Penn Jillette: “Worst show in La Vegas…hokey garbage.”

The leader of the United States and the free wheel needs to behave better than this. As a country, we must do better than Donald Trump. It is time for all of us to cancel this self-serving probable crook who has no respect for democracy. We can and must do much better.

For a Greater Palm Springs Accident to have value, a lawyer looks at several factors. You may not realize it, but who is at fault is only one factor. A lawyer does not want a case where the client has told the police s/ he was not hurt or that no police were called. An experienced Palm Desert Accident Attorney looks at whether there was a DELAY in seeing a doctor? Which chiropractor or MD? Was it the family MD or a new doctor.

Most clients don’t realize a family doctor has records of ALL the past complaints. This could be a slip and fall in the shower, or an injury playing tennis. In addition, it could include your advising your doctor of a substance abuse problem, an affair, or a sexually transmitted disease that you don’t want others to know about.

Does your doctor know how to write a proper Med/Legal report? I personally lectured for many years to an Annual Convention of Orthopedic doctors on “How to write a medical/legal report”. Preparation of a report for a legal matter is not taught in Med School.

Furthermore, did the doctor recommend physical therapy or advise the client to go home and soak in a hot bath and take aspirin? How many doctor’s visits were there and over what period of time. Is the medical bill mostly diagnostic with x-rays/MRI’s/CT’s? How long was the treatment?

A major factor is whether the victim talked to the insurance company, or had prior accident claims? If so, how long ago were those accidents?

For the first time in over 28 years in the CV, I have received calls from potential clients who are notably upset when I will not accept their accident case. I explain that any accident case places the Burden of Proof on the injured plaintiff to prove Liability (that someone else is at fault) and Damages (that they were injured). In addition, it is more expensive than ever in 2022, during the Age of Covid, for a Palm Desert Accident Attorney to litigate a Personal Injury case.

A CV Accident Lawyer should advise a potential client upfront, that when the case settles, some of those costs get

passed on to them. I do not want a client that will be unhappy in the end because most of the money went to costs for investigation and expert, and not to the client.

During the Covid restrictions for the past few years, it is hard to find doctors in their office to examine and treat the injured client. If you can see a doctor, how difficult is it to go to the pharmacy to get prescriptions filled? Who wants to wait in line with people that are picking up drugs because they are sick?

Unless you are rear ended, the defendant often lies and claims you were at fault……..or partly at fault. They will argue they had the right of way…… especially if there was no witness or police report. It becomes “liar’s poker”, and a lawyer must evaluate how likely it is that the jury will believe the plaintiff. During Covid, and the climate of defunding the police, good luck in getting a police report prepared.

California has Comparative Negligence and thus if the defendant can show the plaintiff was partly at fault, that degree of

fault is deducted from the settlement. For instance, if the Plaintiff client was 50 % at fault, s/he would lose 50% of the value of their case.

YOU DIDN’T TAKE MY ACCIDENT CASE! WHY? DALEGRIBOWONTHELAW LEGAL REPRESENTATION OF THE INJURED & CRIMINALLY ACCUSED

The Coachella Valley is constantly being redesigned, rebuilt, and remodeled. Whether in the form of house flippers, investors from out-ofstate capitalizing on an ever-evolving valley that’s boom never seems to occur downtime (despite global pandemics), or the typical three bedroom-two-point-five-bathroom home, whose inhabitants will work overtime, remortgage, or take out a loan to Keep Up With The Joneses’. The undeniable reality is that the construction trade in the Coachella Valley is here to stay. Because of this, and supported by the advent of YouTube, many these days want to keep up, and will cut every corner possible to save money, and “DIY” [Do It Yourself].

Each of us have creative thoughts, and that is what makes us not only human but “genius”. That’s right, I said it. Genius.

The true definition of genius, in my opinion, is to have creative thought and to be original. Well, guess what. There is only one of you in this life, and there will never be another one of you in this life. That makes you assuredly unique and original if you ask me. So, never let anyone tell you that you aren’t a genius. However, and sadly, as we age and are influenced by society, and/or situations, sometimes the world manipulates us into the belief that our genius isn’t real, and that if we follow along blindly with the status quo that

we will eventually enjoy a safe and pleasant life. Reality, as the more mature of us have discovered, couldn’t be farther from that belief. Reality dictates that “originality” is the only truth that reveals true success – and not success analyzed by monetary value. Success monitored by original fulfillment.

You may be asking yourself why the need for this philosophical tangent? Simply put, philosophy is important in any creative endeavor – as with those who are about to or are involved with the highly creative journey experienced with any form of construction, remodeling, or rebuilding project.

DIY became a burgeoning notion during the nineteen seventies, perhaps spawned by Bob Vila, the TV host who taught viewers all the tools of the construction trade and how to apply them. Subsequently, Bob was parodied in Disney’s 1990 hit TV series, Home Improvement. Remember, social media / television and movies, are always a reflection of the times and what is popular in society during said times. Therefore, it’s safe to say that DIY has become further popular with the advent of YouTube where we find many a Bob Vila teaching us how to save money, do it ourselves, but not always obtaining the results we would hope for

Now, I know what some of you may say –“We learned to do DIY projects by watching YouTube and have saved hundreds or

thousands of dollars”. Did you, and will you work stand up to the sands of time?

Let’s first calculate the hours you spent searching, watching, re-watching, pausing, practicing, purchasing equipment, returning wrong equipment for right equipment, trips back and forth appliance stores, accidents, trips to emergency rooms, etc. When you add up all these elements and compare them to the cost and guarantee a licensed professional would charge to remove your DIY headaches, arguments, and not-so-sure work, you may have been better off not “cutting corners”, stayed in your lane of genius, and leave the construction work to the pros.

Often men like to try to do everything. This is not a bad thing, it’s honorable. But honorability and pride don’t always get the job done right. Be content with being the genius that came up with the idea, but let the professionals handle its rendering.

The takeaway from all this is [stay in your lane] and be patient – it’s worth it! A common DIY dream project may be to relish in the invigoration of a well-manicured garden landscape. You want to create and build your fantasy-come-true yard, but don’t have a hint of where to begin. Do not attempt to place yourself in the big-bad-outdoors alone, especially, at the initial construction of doing the laborious tasks, such as laying

down irrigation water lines, building walls, or fences, or pouring cement patios. Design, design, design away and allow your genius to shine - but allow a professional to use their genius to help you create. Keep in mind, “Rome was not built in a day” – it took many days. Nor was Rome designed and built exclusively by just one genius. It took many geniuses to create such magnificence. The same is applicable to any form of construction work, whether they be indoors, outdoors, from scratch, or remodeling. And if you do happen to be in the market for a construction project then we suggest you look no further than a Better Business Bureau accredited company with over thirty years’ experience serving our gorgeous Coachella Valley.

Last week we shared tips about Thanksgiving safety (https://lnkd. in/g6UmqzYH). This week lets look at another dangerous day, the day after Thanksgiving!

Enjoy the music while you read: https:// lnkd.in/gypfmztw. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving when holiday gift buying

WHEN BLACK FRIDAY COMES, KEEP SAFETY IN THE FOREFRONT OF YOUR MIND!

begins. Sales offering big discounts lure customers into stores, often beginning in the early hours of the morning.

Why is it called Black Friday? Many retailers report some of their highest profits on Black Friday. The black portion of the

name, “Black Friday” relates to businesses recording their losses in red ink and gains in black. This tradition lives on in modern accounting software, hence the name.

“Unfortunately, Black Friday is a day when shoppers may become victims of crimes and injuries,” reminds Fire Chief Sam DiGiovanna. Unfortunately, crime is on the rise. California’s violent crime rate increased by 6.0% in 2020 to 2021.

We should all be alert and aware of people and the surroundings around us, and our vehicles.

Situational awareness means (but not limited to):

Park in a location that is closest to the store or mall if shopping when it is dark. Park near light.

Be careful of other motorists as they may be distracted by a variety of things.

Purses should be worn in a way that it is close to the body and difficult to snatch. If carrying a wallet, it should be kept in the front pocket or the inside pocket of a coat

or jacket.

Carrying too many bags may also prove dangerous in many ways.

If possible, leave children at home during Black Friday. The crowds of people can easily overwhelm a child who may get hurt or become lost. If you must bring a child, it is important to hold onto small children to avoid separation.

Identify and know where fire and emergency exits are in stores, malls and dining establishments.

If you’re sick, do us all a favor and stay home! Bring hand sanitizers to help combat germs.

Put away that cell phone so you are completely aware of your surroundings, be cognizant and courteous of others.

“Most importantly, be patient and be kind,” reminds Chief DiGiovanna.

Now that’s a bargain!

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 17 ©

ARIES (March 21-April 19): Virginia Woolf wrote a passage that I suspect will apply to you in the coming weeks. She said, “There is no denying the wild horse in us. To gallop intemperately; fall on the sand tired out; to feel the earth spin; to have — positively — a rush of friendship for stones and grasses — there is no getting over the fact that this desire seizes us.” Here’s my question for you, Aries: How will you harness your wild horse energy? I’m hoping that the self-possessed human in you will take command of the horse and direct it to serve you and yours with constructive actions. It’s fine to indulge in some intemperate galloping, too. But I’ll be rooting for a lot of temperate and disciplined galloping.

emotional range. As an antidote, I proactively seek experiences that rouse my wonder and sublimity and holiness. In the next two weeks, Libra, I invite you to cultivate a focus like mine. It’s high time for a phase of minimal anger and loathing—and maximum reverence and awe.

In theory, weight loss should be easy: Eat healthy, exercise, and reap the rewards. Easy peasy, right?

But losing weight isn’t always that simple. Sometimes you can feel like you’re doing all the right things — and you might lose some weight at first, but then you might reach the weight-loss plateau.

While everyone is different and the results can vary we would like to discuss some of the possible reasons why you might be facing difficulties losing unwanted weight. Some of the reasons could include the following.

You are Not Eating the Good Nutrition

If you’re working out but not losing weight, the first place you should be looking is the kitchen. Some people focus all their energy on burning off calories that they don’t take the time to consider what they’re putting in as fuel. A good rule of thumb is to stick to all-natural, whole foods.

You are Eating Too Much

Eat whenever you are hungry and eat slowly enough so you can stop just before you get full. And don’t be afraid to give yourself “healthy” cheats. The moment you start depriving yourself is when you start to feel like you’re missing out on something, and you want to binge. We always recommend our clients to follow an 80/20 eating approach where you eat 80% of the time clean & healthy and 20% you are enjoying eating out in your favorite restaurant or eating a dessert.

Muscle is denser than fat. While one pound of fat weighs the same as one pound of muscle, muscle occupies about 18 percent less space. In addition, muscle burns calories while fat stores them. So, if your weight isn’t decreasing but your clothes are starting to fit more loosely, you may be building muscle.

One pound of fat equals 3,500 calories. Under normal circumstances, it takes 3,500 surplus calories to make a pound of fat. In turn, that’s how many deficit calories you have to burn to get rid of a pound of fat. To lose 10 pounds, you would need a deficit of 35,000 calories.

Your workouts aren’t intense enough

Any amount of aerobic exercise — like walking, jogging, or bicycling — will get your heart rate up and burn some calories. But in order to burn enough calories to actually help you lose weight, you might need to move more than you think. This is

where hiring a trainer or a coach can be so beneficial. Remember it’s not about how long you exercise, it’s about how effective and efficient your workouts are. The goal is to strengthen your weak muscles and to stretch your tights muscles and joints to create a balanced and healthy body.

You are not doing resistance training

Lifting weights itself doesn’t burn a ton of calories. A 150-pound person will burn 214 calories from half an hour of strength training, compared to around 350 calories for the same amount of running.

But building up more muscle mass does. A pound of lean muscle tissue burns slightly more calories than fat tissue. And over time, that can help nudge the scale downward. Plus there are so many benefits of having enough muscle in your body. We described all the benefits of having enough muscles in one of our previous articles.

You are ignoring your liquid calories

Just about all drinks other than water, plain seltzer, black coffee, or unsweetened tea, contain calories. And in some cases, the count can be significant. So please look closer at what you drink!

Not Consuming Enough Protein

Protein is an important nutrient when it comes to losing weight. Consuming protein for 25-30% of your daily calories has the potential to boost your metabolism by 80100 calories per day. Digging into a high protein breakfast has been shown in studies to impact hunger for the rest of the day and cause fewer cravings. Protein also helps prevent weight regain and helps to prevent a metabolic slowdown.

If you’re serious about getting on track with your weight loss make sure you have these areas dialed in to save yourself from weight loss failure.

Honestly, if your goal is to just improve your overall health and fitness but more importantly lose excess body fat, learn how to lose stubborn belly fat, build lean muscle, fit better into your clothes and just feel generally better overall and feel more confident about yourself, it’s really all about just trying to move as much as possible throughout the day.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): “The failure of love might account for most of the suffering in the world,” writes poet Marie Howe. I agree with that statement. Many of us have had painful episodes revolving around people who no longer love us and people whose lack of love for us makes us feel hurt. That’s the bad news, Taurus. The good news is that you now have more power than usual to heal the failures of love you have endured in the past. You also have an expanded capacity to heal others who have suffered from the failures of love. I hope you will be generous in your ministrations!

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Many Geminis tell me they are often partly awake as they sleep. In their dreams, they might work overtime trying to solve waking-life problems. Or they may lie in bed in the dark contemplating intricate ideas that fascinate them, or perhaps ruminating on the plot developments unfolding in a book they’ve been reading or a TV show they’ve been bingeing. If you are prone to such behavior, I will ask you to minimize it for a while. In my view, you need to relax your mind extra deeply and allow it to play luxuriously with non-utilitarian fantasies and dreams. You have a sacred duty to yourself to explore mysterious and stirring feelings that bypass rational thought.

CANCER (June 21-July 22): Here are my two key messages for you. 1. Remember where you hide important stuff. 2. Remember that you have indeed hidden some important stuff. Got that? Please note that I am not questioning your urge to lock away a secret or two. I am not criticizing you for wanting to store a treasure that you are not yet ready to use or reveal. It’s completely understandable if you want to keep a part of your inner world off-limits to certain people for the time being. But as you engage in any or all of these actions, make sure you don’t lose touch with your valuables. And don’t forget why you are stashing them.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): I know I don’t have to give you lessons in expressing your sensuality. Nor do you need prods and encouragement to do so. As a Leo, you most likely have abundant talent in the epicurean arts. But as you prepare to glide into the lush and lusty heart of the Sensuality Season, it can’t hurt to offer you a pep talk from your fellow Leo bon vivant, James Baldwin. He said: “To be sensual is to respect and rejoice in the force of life, of life itself, and to be present in all that one does, from the effort of loving to the breaking of bread.”

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Many Virgos are on a lifelong quest to cultivate a knack described by Sigmund Freud: “In the small matters, trust the mind. In the large ones, the heart.” And I suspect you are now at a pivotal point in your efforts to master that wisdom. Important decisions are looming in regards to both small and large matters. I believe you will do the right things as long as you empower your mind to do what it does best and your heart to do what it does best.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Social media like Facebook and Twitter feed on our outrage. Their algorithms are designed to stir up our disgust and indignation. I confess that I get semi-caught in their trap. I am sometimes seduced by the temptation to feel lots of umbrage and wrath, even though those feelings comprise a small minority of my total

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Scorpio author Sylvia Plath had a disturbing, melodramatic relationship with romance. In one of her short stories, for example, she has a woman character say, “His love is the twenty-story leap, the rope at the throat, the knife at the heart.” I urge you to avoid contact with people who think and feel like that—as glamorous as they might seem. In my view, your romantic destiny in the coming months can and should be uplifting, exciting in healthy ways, and conducive to your well-being. There’s no need to link yourself with shadowy renegades when there will be plenty of radiant helpers available.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): I like Sagittarian healer and author Caroline Myss because she’s both spiritual and practical, compassionate and fierce. Here’s a passage from her work that I think will be helpful for you in the coming weeks: “Get bored with your past. It’s over! Forgive yourself for what you think you did or didn’t do, and focus on what you will do, starting now.” To ensure you make the most of her counsel, I’ll add a further insight from author Augusten Burroughs: “You cannot be a prisoner of your past against your will—because you can only live in the past inside your mind.”

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): How would you respond if you learned that the $55 t-shirt you’re wearing was made by a Haitian kid who earned 10 cents for her work? Would you stop wearing the shirt? Donate it to a thrift store? Send money to the United Nations agency UNICEF, which works to protect Haitian child laborers? I recommend the latter option. I also suggest you use this as a prompt to engage in leisurely meditations on what you might do to reduce the world’s suffering. It’s an excellent time to stretch your imagination to understand how your personal life is interwoven with the lives of countless others, many of whom you don’t even know. And I hope you will think about how to offer extra healings and blessings not just to your allies, but also to strangers. What’s in it for you? Would this bring any selfish benefits your way? You may be amazed at how it leads you to interesting connections that expand your world.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Aquarian philosopher Alfred North Whitehead wrote, “The silly question is the first intimation of some totally new development.” He also said, “Every really new idea looks crazy at first.” With these thoughts in mind, Aquarius, I will tell you that you are now in the Season of the Silly Question. I invite you to enjoy dreaming up such queries. And as you indulge in that fertile pleasure, include another: Celebrate the Season of Crazy Ideas.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): We all love to follow stories: the stories we live, the stories that unfold for people we know, and the stories told in movies, TV shows, and books. A disproportionately high percentage of the entertainment industry’s stories are sad or tormented or horrendously painful. They influence us to think such stories are the norm. They tend to darken our view of life. While I would never try to coax you to avoid all those stories, Pisces, I will encourage you to question whether maybe it’s wise to limit how many you absorb. The coming weeks will be an excellent time to explore this possibility. Be willing to say, “These sad, tormented, painful stories are not ones I want to invite into my imagination.” Try this experiment: For the next three weeks, seek out mostly uplifting tales.

WHY AM I NOT LOSING WEIGHT WHEN I EXERCISE?

THE CANNABIS SILENT ELECTION EFFECTS

The election pundits are talking about the “Dobbs effect.” The silent response by young voters, to the Supreme Court decision on abortion, turned the red tsunami into a red mirage. I am suggesting there will be a silent cannabis effect in the 2024 election. Polls conducted by Fox News of voters and non-voters showed some interesting dynamics. Let me point to some progress in the 2022 elections paving the path to reform.

Maryland - Voters opted to pass their ballot measure, with 65.5% of voters in favor. Adults in Maryland will be allowed to possess up to 1.5 ounces or two plants.

Missouri - Missouri approved a constitutional amendment with 53.1% of voters in favor of the measure. Amendment 3 “remove(s) state prohibitions on purchasing, possessing, consuming, using, delivering, manufacturing, and selling.” It also releases all incarcerated individuals, paroled individuals, and individuals on probation for any nonviolent marijuana-related crimes. Criminal records and civil records for nonviolent marijuana-related offenses will also be expunged.

Pennsylvania - A poll released in September found that two in three Pennsylvania voters say they support marijuana legalization. With a Democrat Governor and Assembly 2023 looks to be a good year for approving adult use cannabis.

South Dakota - In South Dakota, a red state, voters rejected an adult-use legalization measure with roughly 53 percent opposed and 47 percent in support. That’s not the

sentiment poll respondents expressed, however, with the survey showing support at 57 percent and opposition at 43 percent.

North Dakota - The vote and poll results for North Dakota, another red state, where legalization was rejected on the ballot, are more consistent. The current ongoing ballot count shows it lost 55 percent to 45 percent, and the survey has 59 percent of respondents opposed to the reform, versus 41 percent who supported it.

Arkansas - Arkansas, a medical marijuana state, has a poll with 55 percent of voters saying they support ending prohibition and 45 percent opposing the reform. Yet in 2022 they rejected Issue 4, which would have legalized recreational cannabis for adult use. There are many ads that will become more prevalent in the 2024 elections cycle.

Texas - Texas, a red state, continues to reject even medical cannabis. However, voters in the cities of Denton, Killeen, San Marcos, Elgin, and Harker Heights decided ‘yes’ to cannabis measures. Specifically, the ordinances limit local law enforcement from making arrests or issuing citations for most marijuana-related violations. It also prohibits police in most circumstances from considering the odor of cannabis as probable cause of a crime. This will have a positive impact on the almost half a million people living in these cities. Look out 2024.

Schedule VI - In October 2022, President Biden indicated an interest in marijuana reform. Schedule VI is designed to be a part of the solution. Gibson McKay is a pre-eminent political strategist, campaign authority, and

government relations specialist. McKay helped defend the Arizona cannabis industry from predatory & punitive legislation since 2017. He is working with some of his clients to develop a framework for Schedule VI that protects medical cannabis patients, adult consumers, & existing cannabis businesses.

Per schedule6.org, “Schedule VI solves a litany of problems for over three million American medical cannabis patients who cannot utilize Health Savings & Flexible Spending Accounts for their medicine. Rescheduling to state control allows veterans access to a diverse set of cannabis products to mitigate the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Registered patients who use medical cannabis shall not be subjected to additional federal taxes while maintaining their Second Amendment rights.”

Thirteen states are left with no medical or

recreational cannabis use: Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

I believe if the Republican candidates in 2024 fail to talk about cannabis reform in Congress or their respective states, there may be a silent green tsunami of millennials.

CANNABISCORNER

The CBD difference in Nature's Cure Products; is when the company uses the best ingredients for its CBD products, which are grown in the United States, organic farming is conducted with the practices, and the hemp product is cultivated with naturally developed genetic strains of industrial hemp. The organic hemp is grown in full compliance under section 7606 of 2014 federal farm bill. So, what is so great about this product?

The first time I tried this product (1500 mg tincture of pure CBD 0% THC) I could feel the beginning of a migraine headache; and taking a full tincture dose my body went into a calm- and I had a window of an opportunity to nurse my headache before it developed into a full-blown debilitating migraine. How wonderful to be able to stop my major migraine. Yet, please dear readers always consult with any of your health care providers before trying any CBD or Cannabis product and or any type of medicine.

I believe that the science is key to the pure quality product that Nature's Cure provide for their customer. The testing is an in-house practice and it’s verified by a third-party lab, using HPLC testing methods with certificate of analysis and quality potency results. What this means is that the product is tested over and over and tried to see how it effects a user. The results equal a high-quality CBD product, which has generated a high loyalty base of customers- that have told me how much better they feel from their ailments and that they use the product for their pets’ discomforts too!

Nature's Cure CBD Eases the Discomforts of: Pain, Cancer, Epilepsy, Glaucoma, Anxiety, Insomnia, Spasticity, PTSD.

Dosages of Products: Many clients when starting a CBD medicine begin with 25 to 50 milligrams of a daily dose. When beginning any

CBD product, it is recommended to start with smaller doses and adjust to what your body may need. Further, with salves or topical treatments it is best to take a warm shower or bath and apply topical treatments where the pain or inflammation exists one to three times a day.

Tinctures: 500, 1,000, 1,500, 3,000 & 5,000 milligrams per ounce. This is for people and pets.

Soft Gels: 10, 25 & 25 milligrams with curcumin. 30 soft gels per bottle.

Salves & Gummies: Nature’s Cure Salve 1400 milligrams (Top Seller) Client preferred

Nature’s Cure Gummy Drops: 10 milligrams

These regiments are perfect for daily use when treating discomforts.

The key of the Phyto cannabinoid medicine plant is that it can help with the reduction of inflammation. When CBD binds to the CB2 sensory receptors of inflamed immune cells, it will activate a protein called the caspase, which is an anti-inflammatory healing within the body’s immune cells. The anti-inflammatory protein binds to the inflamed cells and it activates a signal that induces the beginning of apoptosis.

Apoptosis is an action of programmed cell demise or death that transpires in multicellular entities or organisms. The biology and chemical events lead to characteristic cell changes and helps reduce inflammation in many diseases such as cancer, which helps bad cells shrink. In the 1980s my father was diagnosed with colon cancer and went through so many chemo therapies, and is a survivor thank God, yet cannabis and CBD wasn’t readily legal or available and now with so much of the health benefits for cancer patients my family had wished that CBD and other cannabis products were available to help with the apoptosis healing. That is why we use and believe in the CBD medicine. Yet, the key here is apoptosis can eliminate infected and

inflamed cells, which CBD may be able to aid with its protein agents that reduce inflammation. However, everyone is different in the healing process, and one can only hope that you will choose the best options of medicines.

We humans lose about 40 to 70 billion cells each day due to apoptosis and within children under the age of fourteen they can lose up to 30 billion cells per day. These differences and changes in the body consists of nuclear fragmentation, and chromatin condensation, which are complex science definition of a morphological hallmarks of the terminal stages of apoptosis. Apoptosis is a highly regulated and controlled process that confers advantages during an organism’s life cycle. This is what we want for unhealthy cells is for them to die off and in most cases, they can shrink reducing the inflammation and morphing a patient into a healthier state, which opens a window of healing opportunity for the complex immune system.

The importance of this miraculous phenomenon is that science can use this knowledge to teach people a better awareness

when treating a discomfort. Phyto-Cannabinoids are a pure natural medicine that can help humans and animals heal with anti-inflammatory ailments. Further, like I had stated in my last article due to so much research within the cannabis medicine plant; science will soon be able to pinpoint what treatments will work for individuals. Individual medical treatment plans are the target today for healing and treating many diseases. However, science today can not dismiss the fact that humans and animals have an ancestral connection to pure based plant medicines.

Apoptosis Review:

When injured cells die, cell contents are bundled into some clusters inside a membrane for the immune systems garbage disposal unit.

Eliminates potentially cancerous and virusinfected cells.
