Ten days into the 16 Days Campaign, women worldwide have organized and held hundreds of events, ranging from rallies to workshops to media programs to drafting petitions. The Center is heartened by the efforts of women and men who are tirelessly engaged in multiple ways to end violence against women and girls.

Featured Campaign Activities Public Awareness Campaign on Violence by State Agents, Legal Resource Center-KJHAM, Indonesia Legal Resource Center-KJHAM is facilitating multiple actions to raise public awareness on violence perpetuated against women by the authorities. Film screenings, workshops, and talk shows will be held, with a report on women’s human rights violations in Central Java being published in December. Learn more at the Center's website.

CWGL Hosts Java & Justice Coffeehouse: Expressions Against Gender Violence On Monday, December 5th, the Center for Women’s Global Leadership co-hosted “Java & Justice Coffeehouse: Expressions Against Gender Violence” at Rutgers University. The event, cosponsored by the Human Rights House, a living-learning community of Douglass Residential College at Rutgers, was attended by over 250 staff, faculty, and students. The evening featured special guest Christine Ahn, Senior Policy Analyst at the Global Fund for Women. Ahn hosted her Fashion Resistance to Militarism show, which aims to raise awareness about the pervasiveness of militarism in society through fashion trends. Models included Douglass students, CWGL staff, and even the Dean of Douglass College, Jacquelyn Litt.

Erradicar la Violencia contra las Mujeres/Eradicate Violence against Women, Instituto Sinaloense de las Mujeres, Mexico The Institute is hosting workshops, conferences, rallies, forums, and women's meetings; signing agreements, facilitating care to battered women in rural areas through mobile units, and calling for the establishment of the state system for equality between men women Sinaloa. Check out the full program of events. 16 Days Blog, Nobel Women's Initiative, Online Nobel Women’s Initiative is spotlighting women activists who are working tirelessly to end rape and gender violence around the world. The night continued with a variety of student performances including a cappella, poetry, rap, dance, and spoken word. The Coffeehouse, which has become an annual event of the Human Rights House, was established to be part of the 16 Days Campaign. The event aims to raise awareness about, and advocate for, an end to gender-based violence. Additionally, the evening aims to raise money for a local New Jersey domestic violence organization, Manavi. Check out CWGL’s Flickr page to view photos of the event.
