Strawberry mixture: 3 cups fresh strawberries, sliced 1/3 cup sugar Whipped cream: 1/2 cup whipping cream 2 tablespoons sugar 1/4 teaspoon vanilla Heat oven to 375 F. Separate biscuits. Dip tops and sides of biscuits in melted butter. Dip biscuits, covering tops and sides, in sugar. Place sugar-side up on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 1317 minutes, or until golden brown.
To make whipped cream: In small bowl, beat whipping cream and sugar until soft peaks form. Add vanilla and beat into mixture. On plate, split biscuits and put dollop of whipped cream mixture on bottom half of biscuit. Add strawberry mixture. Replace biscuit top and dollop with whipping cream.

Workplace Tips and Strategies for New Parents (Family Features) While having or adopting a child can be a rewarding and exciting time for new parents, many working moms and dads will tell you navigating the complex maze of employee benefits can be confusing. Between shortterm disability insurance, Family Medical Leave, vacation, paid time off and state and municipal paid leave laws, the process can be anxiety-inducing. To help alleviate stress, employee benefits company Unum recently conducted research among new parents who had a child or adopted in the previous five years. The findings pointed to a need for more communication between the new parents and their workplace human resources and management teams, both before and after leave. Communicate early and develop a leave plan Nearly half (49%) of new moms and more than a third (36%) of new dads surveyed did not meet with their manager or human resources department to discuss their leave benefits. Of those who did, 40% spent 30 minutes or less doing so. “Most employers offer standard benefits for new parents including disability insurance (for birth moms) and Family Medical Leave, and we’re finding more companies are adding additional perks like company-paid leave, flexible schedules and college savings accounts,” said Angel Bennett, a director in the Leave Management Center at Unum. “It’s important for expectant parents to meet with their managers and human resources to inform them, discuss available benefits and develop their leave plans well before the baby’s arrival.” Nearly half (47%) of new birth moms said breastfeeding is one of their biggest challenges upon returning to the workplace. Mothers who plan on breastfeeding should discuss their options with human resources. Some companies offer lactation rooms, milk storage options and breast milk shipping services.
Things to discuss and consider after the baby arrives Perhaps unsurprisingly, 48% of new parents are more tired, 35% are more stressed and 30% are more stressed about finances. However, some employers offer benefits that can help. According to the Unum research, 60% of new mothers and 40% of new fathers struggled with depression or anxiety following the birth or adoption of their children. Many companies offer an employee assistance program, which can include a fixed number of counseling sessions or tele-behavioral health options, to help with life challenges. Personal finance expert Laura Adams also suggests an open dialogue with your employer about financial protection benefits to help reduce anxiety during this potentially challenging time. “Ensure your income is protected by reviewing your long-term disability insurance policy and that your family is taken care of with a life insurance policy,” Adams said. “Also be sure to add the new child to your health care policy and, if available, consider signing up or increasing the amount you put into a flexible spending account.” To help new parents navigate these processes, “Bringing Up Baby: A Guide to Workplace Parental Leave Resources” contains basic tips, timing and conversation starters to engage with managers and human resources representatives. Why did you start looking for a home business?
A. I began looking for a way to work from home after the birth of our oldest in 1994. I dabbled in various direct sales companies but never found anything I could get passionate about. During this time I also ran a daycare out of our home. My main goal was to be home with our daughters. In 2000 I found a company that offered a way for me to improve my health and get my family healthy. I signed up strictly for the savings on the products. I had absolutely ZERO intentions of building a business. Very quickly I started getting results and sharing and then it happened… the business found me! I was with that company for 16 years, and had worked my way to being the #2 income earner. I had an incredible team below me and together we were almost 10,000 distributors strong, with sales over $10 Million just since 2011! I’m a happily married wife and mom of four kids. Two of whom are in college or college bound and 2 still in school. I have been a homemaker and business woman off and on for 30 years as my husband and I grew our family. Over the years I have been with 3 direct sales companies. The first one was a terrible experience, but yet, it was a learning experience. My second direct sales company was amazing and I was with this company for 10 years. We moved and I didn’t want to start over building my business in a new town where I knew no one so I gave up being a consultant. I joined the company without ever seeing the product! When my starter kit arrived I was so excited. Everything I needed from one company, in one catalog! I loved the quality of the products. It was difficult for me to launch my business in a community where I knew very few people. But, I kept pushing forward offering parties. I finally had a few ladies who offered to hostess parties and that’s all it took. My business began to grow! I attended my first convention never having met any other consultants except for on social media! What an experience. Just like our parties, convention was no different. I came home energized and ready to grow my business and promote up the ladder. I set goals. However, life took a turn for my family and I found myself unable to make my business a priority. I didn’t want to give being a consultant. I loved the company and the products way too much. I was away from home
for about 6 months month’s helping to take care of an ill family member. I did what I could using social media, friends and family contacts to keep my business active enough to keep my status. When I was able to return home, I signed up for my second convention and was so eager to attend and see my new found friends and family. It was at this convention that I set a goal and came home determined to meet this goal of advancement. I went beyond my comfort zone and reached out beyond my local community. My sales have soared, my business has grown. I have advance and built a team and could be happier or more proud of myself. But more than building a business I have built a tribe of friends and new found family. I may work at home building my business but every day I am communicating with friends, making new friends. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that signing up to be a consultant in direct sales would take me out of my comfort zone to figure out who I am and to make friends. And now, just 17 days until I leave for my third convention, I am beyond excited to walk a stage, be promoted, receive awards and see all of my business sisters from across the states. A direct sales company doesn’t have to provide a product that one can use to get repeat customers and be consumable to build a business. It can be a service. It can offer a lifetime of memories. It can offer an experience that a consumable product can not offer. At every party we laugh, sometimes we cry
as customers share stories but we always make memories. And we party together several times a year, sometimes monthly to have a bond with friends, to create an experience and make memories together.
