My decision to hang up the uniform came with ease as the military decided I could retire early due to health challenges, but that date wouldn’t come until March 10, 2016. Now, I had time to prepare, because it was only October 2015. I wasn’t worried as I’d worked for the Department of Defense before serving on active duty; really, how much could have changed? I was slapped in the face with reality. This two-time college graduate had submitted 50+ applications. I was highly qualified for many to be overqualified for a lot. I received one telephonic interview and another that wouldn’t seek further employment opportunities with me because they couldn’t agree to the salary terms I was requesting…. I was in shock – what am I going to do now? I’d worked in the healthcare industry for over twenty years; I wasn’t looking to start over let alone go back to school – that was out of the question; I’d just paid my student loan debt off. While traveling back to San Antonio, TX, 56 miles from home all the lights and engine cut completely off at 80mph in the fast lane. HOW TO MAKE EDIBLE STARBURST SLIME: Ingredients 1 Bag of Starburst Candies Powdered Sugar Cornstarch (I believe it’s called corn flour in the UK) Instructions: Gather materials. You will want a couple of small glass bowls and a pot of water to cook on the stove. Divide the Starburst candies by color and unwrap. Place each color into a small glass bowl. Mix ¼ c. powdered sugar with ¼ c. cornstarch. Boil a pot of water and place the glass bowl into the pot to melt the Starburst candies. (Making it like a double boiler). Stir regularly to prevent burning. Once melted, remove from heat.

Turn onto a surface dusted with the cornstarch and powdered sugar mixture. Wait about five minutes until cooled. It can burn you at this point, so REALLY be careful! Knead the melted candy with the powdered sugar mixture. Be sure to pull it and stretch it as you knead to let a lot of air into it. This will help it to be less sticky and more stretchy.

Now it is time to play! Make sure to wash their hands first if they want to eat their Starburst slime. My kids wanted to immediately mix all of the colors and see how it looked.

Unfortunately, we aren’t always patient enough to follow a full tutorial (ah, life with kids!) but the ability to create a beautiful item from a messy process is what we love about this project! Ours are really more of a 'squeeze' pot than a pour pot -- we didn't really pour the paint as you can see in the photos.

Craft Supplies for Rainbow Painted Pots: Here's what you need for each pot along with affiliate links to some of the items we used for the project: a clean Terra Cotta Pot (clay pots) - use any size but know that the larger the pot, the more paint you'll need Note: be sure you have a pot with a rought exterior and not one that has been coated with a waterproof finish -- the paint won't stick unless it's a a variety of acrylic paints (at a minimum, we would recommend 4 colors - you can see our choices below) Wax Paper newspaper to cover your work area a somewhat patient kid a smock! a must when painting with kids :) First, choose what paint colors you'd like to use. We chose Acrylics Brights (Neon) Paints and used five different colors. They actually changed the colors in this set so the deeper blue is now a violet -- we used a deeper royal blue paint color in addition to the aqua on our pots. We decided to apply the darker colors first and then cover those with the lighter colors. I'm sure you can do it either way (lighter colors first would work too).
