Today marks the first issue that Bathurst City Life has changed to new owner Dave Rankine.

Many readers will be familiar with Dave as the writer and photographer for the paper for the past 12 months, and this week he has stepped up to take over the Bathurst arm of the Regional Life Group’s newspapers from original owner Bob Holland.

Dave is pictured taking over the reigns last week officially from Bob at a meeting at the Regional Life Group headquarters in Orange.

Hi friends Between you and me – what a week it has been.

As you might have judged by the front cover of this week’s edition – I have now taken over the management and ownership of Bathurst City Life officially.

I am sure it is going to be a challenging couple of weeks as we get established here in Bathurst, iron out a few kinks in the way we do things and get a few staff on board to share the work load.

But here it is – our first edition and I hope you enjoy it.

To the casual observer nothing much about the paper will be changing in the coming weeks.

It will still have the same look and feel as it always had – with just a few subtle differences.

Like every job, “The Shoosher” and I hope to put our own stamp on things, while retaining the positive, upbeat, colourful and vibrant feel Bathurst City Life has tried to bring you each week for the past two years.

Thanks to all of our readers who have stuck by us and continued to pick up the paper each week from one of the 35-plus news stands across the city.

Thank you also to our growing list of advertisers who have reacted positively to the news Bathurst City Life is in the hands of Bathurst owners.

You will notice a number of half and full page ads in

this week’s edition.

I’d like to take this opportunity to offer past, current or potential advertisers the chance to try Bathurst City Life out for themselves.

FUEL PRICE STILL A HUGE ISSUE It has become one of the most hotly debated issues in Bathurst in recent weeks - the price disparity of fuel between regional and metropolitan fuel prices.

DAVE RANKINE IN A recent report from the NRMA, it was revealed regional drivers are now paying an average 17.6 cents per litre more for their fuel than city drivers, prompting stronger monitoring by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

In the last six months, Australia’s five largest cities have enjoyed a decrease in the average fuel price of around 38 cents per litre.

Last week, the average price for unleaded fuel in Sydney was 107.8 cents per litre while drivers in Bathurst paid a hefty 137.9 cents per litre in comparison, according to data released by NRMA. Fuel dropped below $1 per litre in

Sydney for the first time in six years earlier this month.

ACCC chairman Rod Sims today told Bathurst City Life the trend did not seem to have extended in a number of regional areas.

“Motorists in our larger capital cities have therefore seen the benefit of lower international prices but consumers in an number of regional locations have not,” he said.

“While lags are expected as older stocks can take longer to run down in regional locations, we would expect the falls to be passed on reasonably quickly.”

price drivers in regional markets in an effort to find anti-competitive activity.

Mr Sims said at least four “micro” reports would be produced each year looking at the cost of fuel in regional ports, transport and storage costs, as well as wholesale distribution and retail costs to explain prices.

Quarterly “macro” reports will cover international drivers of petrol prices and petrol price cycles.

“Fuel producers can either respond or face a consumer backlash of even a government response if the market is not behaving as a competitive market should,” Mr Sims said.

“This action is important as each extra cent per litre on petrol costs Australian consumers close to $200 million per year.”

CBD road work underway DAVE RANKINE Council commenced road works last week at the intersection of William and Russell Streets, with the removal of the central medians on three of the approach legs.

A one-stop destination for Bathurst bicentenary information for locals and visitors was opened last week in the Bathurst CBD. DAVE RANKINE THE B200 pop-up shop will be open during 2015 allowing people to discover what’s on during the celebrations, buy a souvenir or talk to the team about their own bicentenary initiatives.

Located in the Scots Centre, the shop was officially opened by Bathurst Mayor Gary Rush on Thursday.

“The Bathurst200 Shop is now open and we encourage people to drop by and check out the retail and information outlet for the Bathurst Bicentenary celebrations.

“This is another exciting addition to the Bathurst200 promotion, and is a welcome addition to the overall campaign to provide a bicentenary for the community to remember,” he told Bathurst City Life.

“This is a busy year for our city and the Bathurst200 store provides a great face-to-face opportunity for the community to get a greater understanding of the many wonderful activities involved in celebrating the wonderful milestone.”

Bathurst Mayor Gary Rush was joined by councillors Monica Morse and Graeme Hangar at the official opening of the B200 store in the Scots Centre.

As per Council’s Management Plan, the intersection is being resurfaced with asphaltic concrete, work which will require the closure of the intersection for the profiling of the surface and the laying of the asphalt.

To reduce traffic problems, this work is proposed to be undertaken on the nights of 27 and 28 January (between 7pm and 3am), weather permitting, with the intersection open during daylight hours.

Variable message boards have been erected on the approach to the intersection to highlight the work and radio advertisements will also proceed.

The medians have been removed as the previous construction resulted in an interface between the median and the road pavement that allowed water infiltration into the pavement which subsequently resulted in failures adjacent to the medians.

The asphalt will be laid on the intersection and the new medians will be placed on top of the new surface and dowelled into the asphalt to eliminate the failure points and provide lateral stability and connection.

Repair work will also be undertaken to failed sections on the lead up to the night closures.

PARKING ISSUES Dear Editor,

New SES Commissioner proud of local staff DAVE RANKINE BATHURST PLAYED host to the newly installed commissioner of the State Emergency Services (SES) last week, as Adam Dent visited the Bathurst headquarters whilst en route to Dubbo.

Having been in the role for only two weeks, Mr Dent told Bathurst City Life he was excited by the prospect of getting out into rural communities and meeting the hard-working staff and volunteers.

“The one thing I am quickly discovering

about the SES is just how passionate and hard-working its people are,” Mr Dent said.

“I feel extremely fortunate to work in such a positive environment and I am sure that I can continue to guide the wonderful work of the more than 10,000 volunteers and staff across the state.”

Having come from the Red Cross, an organisation Mr Dent described as having a very similar passion to serve the community, he said he had felt ‘right at home’ in his first fortnight in the role.

at getting out of bed at all hours of the night, in all kinds of weather, to help all manner of people who are suffering all kinds of hardship,” he noted.

“It is hard not to be inspired as the incoming commissioner by that level of dedication.”

Bathurst was the first regional visit for the SES head and he told a packed room he was excited about the challenges that lay ahead for both himself and the organisation.

I wonder if B. Wallace (BCL Jan 7) has ever parked nose in and then tried to back out, blindly, into heavy oncoming traffic, often with the view obscured even further when a four wheel drive or similar is parked to his/her left? Not a pleasant experience.

Maybe instead leave the status quo, and encourage drivers to get some practice in reverse parking.

It’s not hard if you are competent enough to hold a license!

Bathurst Regional Council have not helped the matter where they have painted lines on the roads (e.g. George St), by leaving only the barest minimum distance between lines.

Note to Council!! Cars have become wider in the last 100 or so years, so leave enough space between vehicles to let the driver get out without having to open his door against the side of the next vehicle.

Library has a heart

Bathurst Library will be the recipient of a comfortable new bean bag for kids to enjoy after a school holiday activity with a difference last week.

The community heart cushion saw organisers and participants bring along much-loved garments to create the one-of-a-kind heart shaped bean bag.

Pictured at the session making the heart were Isobel Rix, Claire Halpin, Fiona Howle, Bella Morris, Maddy Howle, Brady Rodham and Jess Rodham.

Australia Day in Bathurst this year will be a mix of formalities and plenty of fun activities to appeal to the young and the young at heart.

At the centre of the day will be Bathurst regional Council’s Australia Day celebrations Kicking off at 8am is the traditional Australia Day breakfast in Eglinton.

Held at the Eglinton War Memorial there is a free barbeque, car displays,games, music and family fun.

The mayor will officially start the day with a flag raising ceremony.

Soon after, at 10am, celebrations switch to Machattie Park where Australia Day will be celebrated with the ambassador’s address, citizenship ceremonies, stalls, displays and a BBQ lunch for the community.

Following these official events a host of other local venues will be conducting celebrations of their own.

Thumbs up to the suggestion of a switch to front-in parking. I have lived in three countries and four states and Bathurst is the only place with this trouble-filled reversing.

Thumbs down to the ute driver who swerved to the wrong side of the road to squash a fox cub.

Sickening. So dangerous for the two cars forced to swerve off the road to avoid him.

Thumbs down to one writer who dobbed themselves into Thumbs. They were close to causing an accident because they did not see a very small scooter-type motorbike on their right, as they were following a large ute. “I was in the middle of the intersection and it whizzed behind me, before I knew the bike was there,” wrote the author.

Thumbs down to the club at a hardware sausage sizzle who had signs with profanity on them in a very public place. It is bad enough that words like s%#t have crept into modern vernacular, but it is poor to have a six-foot high banner with the word s%#tbox plastered across it.

Thumbs down to the foul mouth driver who abused a pedestrian crossing an intersection slowly. Not all who cross slowly are lazy. This lady had a painful spinal injury. Shame on you!

Welcome rain for Bathurst Officially 32 millitetres of rain filled the rain gauge in Bathurst over the weekend, providing some muchneeded summer relief for local farmers and gardeners alike.

However, reports of falls closer to 60mm in some parts of the region have brought a welcome smile to the faces of many farmers who have seen pastures beginning to “go-off ” in a drying season in the early New Year.

The showers across the weekend brought to 38mm, the total rainfall to fall in January at the Bureau of Meteorology’s site at Bathurst Airport.

Showers are expected again today and tomorrow to further boost the rainfall this month.

Technology a beacon for local SES staff

Injured workers have great support

Deputy Regional Controller, Central West Region, Mark Darling, is pictured with an iPad equipped with the new Beacon software. The software is allowing volunteers realtime access to resources and information to assist in emergency management situations.

When local State Emergency Services staff are called out to emergencies in the community, they are now backed up by technology to help them in their work.

DAVE RANKINE “BEACON” IS an operating management system which has been in use by the SES in Bathurst for the past three months and has had a significant impact on the day-to-day lives of volunteers.

Deputy Regional Controller, Mark Darling, explained the new software records every call made by the public and allows volunteers to monitor, manage and allocate resources quickly and effectively to assist with their

work.

“We have already logged several thousand jobs in that short time period and the reaction by volunteers has been overwhelmingly positive,” Mark explained.

“It is designed to be used anywhere and is web-based, allowing for greater access by staff in the field.

“In fact, Bathurst is currently trialing an iPad version of the software which allowing real time management of job situations and resources,” he added.

The Beacon software was designed specifically for the SES and was the result of thousands of hours of consultation with volunteers statewide.

“It was designed with feedback from volunteers, for volunteers and is another example of how technology can have a positive influence on emergency situations experienced in our community,” Mark concluded.

Parenting traumatised children J

oin our reflective parenting program and learn how to provide a caring, supportive growing experience for traumatised children.

This program is for parents/carers of children 0-17 years who have experienced domestic/ family violence, abuse, neglect, who are at risk of significant harm (ROSH), or are in ‘out of home care’.

Bringing Up Great Kids was published in 2012 by the Australian Childhood Foundation.

Other parenting programs traditionally focus on ‘behaviour management’ skills whereas this program focuses on parenting skills, such as warmth, sensitivity and parental reflection.

This approach is strongly supported by the latest neurobiology research.

As a parent or carer of a traumatised child this course will help you to better understand your child’s experience of the world, how to enhance the connection, warmth and sensitivity between you and your child. You’ll learn: • how trauma affects the developing brain • the messages that are hidden in behaviour

• how mindfulness and reflection can support positive communication • how to understand your child’s experience of the world • how to communicate effectively with traumatised children The course will give you the chance to reflect on how you were parented and how you operate as a parent.

Previous participants have benefited from the course as follows: • “An understanding of what’s happening to | my child and how to deal with that.”

• “I have met people that are in similar situations, felt appreciated and felt respected.”

• “Understanding brain response/feeling not the only one with traumatised children.”

• “Calming myself. Understanding them and me.”

The Injured Workers Support Network (IWSN) Western Region returns in 2015 for local residents affected by workplace injuries.

The first meeting for 2015 on this Friday at 11am, at the Bathurst City Community Club in William Street.

Injured Workers Support Network Coordinator, Rowan Kernebone, told Bathurst City Life he was pleased that Bathurst’s oldest peer-support group was resuming.

“Ms Swan from McIntosh McPhillamy & Co, a workers compensation specialist, has kindly agreed to kick us off with at talk about the Workers Compensation system,” Rowan noted.

“Injured or ill workers and their families do it tough,” he stressed.

“The workers compensation system is a maze of conflicting agendas and ideologies. Injured workers are often caught like mice in the middle of this. “ Rowan said not only are victims and their families trying their hardest to overcome their injury, but they have to continue to support their families, fight with insurance companies for their weekly pay and medical expenses and then try to get back to work before the boss fires them.”

“The IWSN network meetings give injured workers a safe place to vent, to lean on each other, learn from each other and work together for a better outcome, both personally and in changing the system that’s stacked up against the injured worker,” he concluded.

The Injured Workers Support Network‘s Bathurst network group meets every forth Friday of the month at the Bathurst City Community Club.

Google visits Bathurst today DAVE RANKINE Bathurst will host the first stop for global giant Google today as it conducts a free workshop for local business owners.

More than 150 local business owners have signed up to the event at BMEC. Changes to Google Search that will soon influence every business and the workshop will explain what local business owners must do to be successful online.

It will also discuss Google’s web tools and best practice and how businesses can structure their website, content and social media, to maximise engagement online.

With one of the greatest monopolies in the technological age, Google control 98 per cent of all searches made online, so this presentation is a chance to hear exactly what works and what doesn’t, straight from Google.

It is being held between 9-11am this morning at BMEC.

Facebook bullying proved It is official — you can be charged if you are found to bully a work colleague on their Facebook page.

DAVE RANKINE IT WAS only a matter of time until Facebook bullying became an offense and last week the Fair Work Commission has handed down a landmark ruling on workplace bullying, indicating that social media posts can constitute ‘bullying at work’.

The ruling formed part of preliminary hearings in a landmark case against the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA), initiated by three DP World employees who complained of ‘aggressive and intimidating behaviour’ carried out by union delegates at Melbourne’s West Swanson dock.

The MUA sought to have nine of the complaints struck out, arguing the alleged conduct did not occur ‘at work’.

The union submitted that a person could not be bullied ‘at work’ if the conduct was between parties who were not work colleagues; or occurred outside the workplace when the applicant was not performing work activities; or was not related to the work being undertaken, such as in the context of union membership.

The Full Bench of the Fair Work Commission thought otherwise.

“It seems to us that the concept of being ‘at work’ encompasses both the performance of work at any time or location and when the worker is engaged in some other activity which is authorised or permitted by their employer, or in the case of a contractor their principal such as being on a meal break or accessing social media while performing

work,” the commission argued.

One of the complaints made by the workers was in relation to derogatory posts made by union delegates to social media platform Facebook.

The MUA submitted that a complainant would have to be at work when the posts were made in order for the conduct to constitute ‘bullying at work’.

“The use of social media to engage in bullying behaviour creates particular challenges. There is little doubt using social

media to repeatedly behave unreasonably towards a worker constitutes bullying behaviour,” it added.

“The relevant behaviour is not limited to the point in time when the comments are first posted on Facebook. The behaviour continues for as long as the comments remain on Facebook.

“It follows the worker need not be ‘at work’ at the time the comments are posted, it would suffice if they accessed the comments later while ‘at work’.”

WORTH A LOOK! B200 SHOP NOW OPEN FOR BUSINESS The Bathurst Bicentenary (B200) shop has been open less than a week and business is reported to be steady and interest in activities strong.

Officially opened last Thursday by Bathurst Regional Council, the shop has been established as the face to the community for all bicentenary activities. It is located in the Scots Centre on Georg Street.

There is a large selection of B200 merchandise available including hats, stubby coolers and even baby outfits, while information about the growing list of events is also on hand from the friendly Council staff.

The shop is currently open between 10am and 4m Monday to Friday.

Local arts attract grant funding Women of Oberon will benefit from an Arts Grant to provide Welder training through local sculptor Harrie Fasher.

DAVE RANKINE THE GRANT was part of $19,405 in small projects funding to the NSW Central West region through the Country Arts Support Program (CASP).

Across the Central West there was a huge demand for the annual small grants program in the 2015 round, with the largest ever total ask - 27 different community organisations requesting $67,062 in funds.

Almost half of these proposals came from first time applicants to CASP. Nine applications from the Central West region were successful in the 2015 round, with projects spread across the

region.

Applicants could apply for up to $3000 with any not-for-profit group eligible.

As well as Oberon and Lithgow, projects in Parkes, Trundle, Grenfell, Tottenham and Cowra.

“These nine projects offer exciting opportunities to communities, arts makers and audiences in the region.

They also provide employment opportunities to local artists and arts workers,” Arts OutWest Executive Officer Tracey Callinan told Bathurst City Life.

“Bringing these nine funded projects to life will be 70 local volunteers contributing more than 1300 volunteer hours.

“The projects will also make use of around $8500 of in-kind goods and services from local councils, businesses and community groups,” she added.

It’s estimated that for the $19,405 CASP investment in the region this year an additional $36,000 of in-kind support will be attached to these projects as donated goods, services or volunteer hours.

Arts NSW’s Country Arts Support Program is a devolved funding program administered by Regional Arts NSW and local regional arts organisations on behalf of the NSW Government.

Applications for the 2016 round of CASP will close in October 2015.

Farewelling a valued friend

Pool law changes to impact homeowners

Members of the Bathurst District Prostate Cancer Support Group are today saying farewell to one of the group’s founding members, Dr. Tom Leckie, who died last Saturday.

Changes to pool laws are set to impact local home-owners who might be considering selling or leasing a property that has a pool.

The group’s committee and membership extended their sincere sympathy to Tom’s family and friends, when told of the news during the weekend.

Committee member, Tony Sutton, told Bathurst City Life that Tom was a valued member of the group and a true gentleman.

His memorial service will take place today at St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church on the

• From the April 29 this year, all properties being sold or leased with a swimming pool need a valid certificate of compliance, or a relevant occupation certificate.

• This includes any property with a swimming pool or spa pool that is on the market for sale or lease at April 29, 2015.

• After this date, a property with a pool cannot be advertised for sale or lease if it does not have a valid certificate of compliance or a

relevant occupancy certificate.

• To obtain a certificate of compliance owners will need to contact either their local council or an independent accredited certifier who is registered with the Building Professionals Board.

• Independent accredited certifiers can be found on the Building Professionals Board website.

• Anecdotal evidence suggests that around 95 per cent of pools fail at the first inspection.

• Councils advise that it can take up to 90 days before they can issue a certificate of compliance, mainly due to the unavailability of qualified contractors to make any needed repairs or remediation work.

• To avoid any unnecessary delays in selling or leasing a property, homeowners need to be proactive and give themselves plenty of time.

For further information homeowners are encouraged to contact Bathurst Regional Council, a solicitor, conveyancer or real estate agent.

TIMEFORA LAUGH TAKE A MINUTE Farmer Jones got out of his car and while heading for his friend's door, noticed a pig with a wooden leg. His curiosity roused, he ask, "Fred, how'd that pig get him a wooden leg?"

"So that's when he hurt his leg, huh, Fred?" "No, Michael. He was a might winded, though. When my tractor hit a rock and rolled down the hill into the pond I was knocked clean out. When I came to, that pig had dove into the pond and dragged me out 'fore I drownded. Sure did save my life."

"And that was when he hurt his leg?" "Oh no, he was fine. Cleaned him up, too."

"OK, Fred. So just tell me. How did he get the wooden leg?"

"Well", the farmer tells him, "A pig like that, you don't want to eat all at once."

WHO AM I?

I was born on February 14, 1956, in Toronto, Canada, the son of English parents, who migrated to North America after WWII. We relocated to England and then when I was 10 we moved to Australia.

Educated at Mosman Primary School and Pittwater High, I went on to acting institute NIDA in 1974.

My career break came in 1981 when I was cast as Jim Craig in The Man From Snowy River.

Two years later I starred as the lead in the film Phar Lap: Heart of a Nation, and then 1986’s Windrider with Nicole Kidman.

I landed the role of a young Frank Sinatra in a mini-series produced by the singer’s daughter which steered my career to musical roles.

I am married to Mandy Carnie; we have three children.

What breed of dog are you?

I am a greyhound. I used to race but was really slow. I was actually rescued by my owners and I am now just a house pet for my family here in O’Connell. Life is pretty good.

Yeah my parents went to a website where unwanted greyhounds are located. I was right here in Bathurst and my first owner wanted me to go to a good home because I wasn’t suited to racing. Now I am just suited to sleeping, digging, chasing birds and the occasional cat that mistakenly comes into the house yard.

DAVE RANKINE RICK WAS a guest at the club’s first meeting of the year last Tuesday and was on hand to receive the donation towards his charity bike ride “A Little Adventure” which kicks off on March 1 this year in Adelaide and will end in Bathurst two weeks later.

Rick is riding the 1900 kilometres to raise money for Crohns and Colitis Research and the Westmead Children’s Hospital and told Bathurst City Life he has been “blown

away” by the level of local support he has received.

“The Historic Car Club is a regular contributor to local charities and gave away over $12,000 last year,” Rick explained.

“To receive such a generous donation from them, when I simply went along to explain what the ride was all about, was beyond my expectations and I cannot thank them enough for their generosity.

Last week saw local kids create their own puppet show during the Bathurst Library’s school holiday program.

Hosted by Fiona Howle and outreach manager, Natalie Conn, it was all smiles as the youngsters got creative with ideas for stories, before making their puppets and acting in the final show.

Fiona said it was a fun morning and everyone was in the spirit with their handmade puppets.

As a bonus, the kids also got to take their puppets and some props home to put the show on for their family.

Bathurst Cycling Club held its individual time trial competition on Sunday at Perthville with a good turn-out of racers taking to the start line.

The individual time-trial is a battle against the clock, with drafting strictly forbidden and each rider taking to the course on their own for the 22-kilometre journey.

OK, so I have to admit I love watching a tough sporting stoush as much as the next bloke.

But at what stage do our cricketers stop looking like brave combatants and start looking like over-paid bogans or worse simply just bogans.

The Armchair Fanatic watched the one-day clash between Australia and India on Sunday night and could not help but notice little Davey Warner in the thick of the action again in a confrontation with Indian players.

It seems like whenever there is a blue â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Little Davey isnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t too far away.

Perhaps it is his Western Sydney upbringing or the fact is not the tallest fella in the Australian team, but there is no doubting trouble follows Little Davey whether he is batting or in the field.

In one of his classier outbursts to centurion Rohit Sharma, Little Davey has been quick to defend his â&#x20AC;&#x153;speak Englishâ&#x20AC;? demand in a slanging match with the Indian batsman, admitting he was mistaken over the incident that sparked it.

Tempers flared in the one-day international at the MCG with Warner confronting Sharma about a cheeky overthrow and seeming to demand that he â&#x20AC;&#x153;speak Englishâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;â&#x20AC;&#x2122;. â&#x20AC;&#x153;When I went over to say something to him, he sort of said something in their language and I said â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;speak Englishâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; because, if youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re going to say something, understand that theoretically I cannot speak Hindi,â&#x20AC;?

Warner told The Armchair Fanatic on Monday. â&#x20AC;&#x153;I did the polite thing and asked him to speak English, he did and I canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t repeat what he said.â&#x20AC;?

With the International Cricket Council reportedly keen to crack down on sledging and confrontational behaviour during next monthâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the mid-pitch clash cost Warner 50 per cent of his match fee.

Throughout the test series, it always seemed to be either Little Davey or Virat Kohli who were prepared to go at it mid-pitch in a push and shove-a-thon or verbal jousting that would have made Dennis Lillee and Javed Miandad blush.

When the Armchair fanatic caught up with Little Davey on Monday, he did admit he was wrong, but said he would not seek out Sharma to apologise: â&#x20AC;&#x153;I approached Sharma and I shouldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have,â&#x20AC;? he said sheepishly.

But here is the killer for me. He went on to explain that if people got on the wrong side of him, he was not going to back down. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re always there to play hard, aggressive cricket, but you know what comes with that â&#x20AC;&#x201D; sometimes you are going to get fined.

Little Davey â&#x20AC;&#x201C; what also comes with that is you looking like a spoilt bogan. And as an avid sports watcher â&#x20AC;&#x201C; there is nothing I can stand more than a spoilt sports star who thinks he can have it his own way all the time.

Which brings me to soccer.

My young fella loves soccer and we have been watching a few of the Asian Cup games this past week or so.

Whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s with these middle-eastern teams like Kuwait and Qatar?

If you watched them long enough, you might get the impression they have been shot by snipers in the crowd and the slightest touch of an opposition player.

I love the skill that comes with soccer, but if there is one thing I canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t come at, it is all of this diving, and excessive carrying on every time someone is the recipient of even the mildest of fouls.

Seriously, I saw some little Qatary fella roll on the group nine time before being taken off in a stretcher, only to return to the field a minute later and run like the wind.

Clean up your act soccer â&#x20AC;&#x201C; you are fast becoming the Davey Warner of the footballing codes.

From the NSW Government website Smoking is banned in spectator areas at public sports grounds and other recreational areas in NSW. However, smoking is only banned when an organised sporting event is being held.

Major sporting facilities are included under the definition of a public sports ground and are required to comply with the law. Other outdoor sporting facilities, such as Local Council playing fields, are also covered by the law.

The Eight Hour Day Movement in Bathurst goes back to when the Temperance Hall was hired to conduct the first small meeting of interested local labourers on 17th July, 1874, with Mr. W. Wilcox in the chair.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the matter of forming a movement in Bathurst to further their cause after being encouraged by groups from Sydney.

Several speakers had their say before deciding to form a committee who were charged with drawing up guidelines and rules that could then be put before a larger proposed meeting to form a movement in the town and hold annual processions.
