Lest we forget

MAX MccARTHY And oTHeRs The moving resonance of bagpipes and the rhythm marching feet will fill Summer Street tomorrow, as people turn out to pay their respects at the ANZAC Day march. The Orange ANZAC March has always been a momentous and emotional occasion, with young and old alike marching to pay their respects to the people who served, and are still serving our beautiful country. Lily Vardanega will be proudly wearing her Great Grandfather Max McCarthy’s medals when she marches with her friends from Orange Anglican Grammar School tomorrow. Max McCarthy was the founder of one of Orange’s best-known pharmacies, McCarthy’s Pharmacy, and served in WWII on the Hospital Ship the ‘Manunda.’ This will be the first time Lily will march, and she is really excited about it. “I can’t wait to wear the medals and march with my friends,” she smiled.
