“Regionality is worth preserving, worth having, and worth promoting,” Lesley said.

The dinner would also have an important environmental purpose, she emphasised.

Lesley says that promoting events like this in the Colour City helps local producers, highlights our amazing food and wine, while promoting efforts to reduce our carbon footprint.

“Food miles are one factor used when testing the environmental impact of food, such as the carbon footprint of the food.

“On a day-by-day basis, this is where we live, where we call home,” Lesley concluded.

How it happened was, we had to get some cages for our own dogs and we started looking after neighbours’ dogs and family members’ dogs, and it all just went on from there,” she said.

They have since built a steady and highlyregarded business with the COVID-19 lockdowns of the past 18 months the first real fly in the ointment.

“At the moment, we’ve got four dogs in for a 20-dog capacity but, before COVID, we’d often have a lot of dogs in at any one time,” Judy added.

Visiting pets are well looked after at ShangriLa, and even have their own personal heaters at night!

“At daytime, we take them out to a big yard where they have their own runs and kennels, and then they come inside their own kennels at night with individual heaters to keep them nice and warm,” Judy said.

Customer loyalty is one of Judy’s greatest sources of satisfaction with clients coming back year in, year out.

“We have so many people who always return... regulars who come back all of

the time.

“A lot of people even give us a call and tell us when their dog has passed away, which is a lovely thought,” Judy added.

Max and Judy have seen what began as a sideline to their cattle business grow and thrive over the years, while still keeping that personal touch that is the keystone to their success.

“It’s family run, we don’t employ staff. We personally make sure that all the dogs are okay and look after them ourselves,” Judy concluded proudly.
