Millthorpe Markets are back on, and they’re partying like it’s 2019 The sun also rises, with Millthorpe’s famous markets back on this Sunday, April 3 after two frustrating years of lockdown.

Returning with an eclectic variety of crafts, clothes, food, rides, and fun — the one nod to the pandemic is that the traditional Millthorpe student bucket collection gold coin entry is “out”, and pre-sold tickets are “in”.

Over than that, it’s “back to the glory days of 2019” for this grand old Millthorpe Public School fundraiser that draws upwards of 10,000 visitors to the twice-yearly spectacular.

“We missed out on four consecutive markets — April 2020, December 2020, April 2021, and December 2021 — it was quite difficult, but our

priority was to keep the community safe,” stall coordinator Marisa Malherbe explained.

“We’re expecting 8–12,000 people, there’s buses from Parkes, Sydney, one of the stalls is from Dalby in Queensland, Victoria, the ACT, and from all across NSW,” she enthused.

The event is back this year covering the six acres of the historical village’s football ground on the left of Park Street (as you arrive from Orange) with new developments at the adjacent school seeing it shut off for the event.

“We’ll be having a total of 300 stalls though ranging from candles and jewellery, adult and children’s fashions, welded metal furniture, garden arches, and plants,” she added.

A variety of food and drink stalls are also onhand for hungry and thirsty browsers, buyers, shoppers, and stall-holders.

“We’ve got Small Acres Cider, gourmet foods from Vietnamese, Chinese, and Indian caterers, and the school will be putting on a barbecue stand,” Marisa said.

Rather than the traditional gold-coin donation entry fee that has existed for the last decade-and-a-half of the event, attendees are being asked to take the high-tech approach that has become the norm over the past two years at a number of similar events.
