HIDDEN EPIDEMIC
Talking POINTS
with BOB HOLLAND
What’s happening in Victoria has been a bit of a reality check for many people and the implications are being felt and talked about everywhere. One thing is obvious, Coronavirus is far from behind us yet. Most people are aware of the dramas that media companies are currently going through. On that, here’s a bit of trivia that would be music to the ears of businesses who advertise on Prime Television. In a recent ratings survey, 27 of the 30 most popular TV programs were on the 7 Network. That’s an amazing statistic!
How many locals are still suffering breathing difficulties from the persistent smoke during last year’s fire seasons?
A reader pulled me up last week to say how much they liked Newswatch, especially the way I am giving our Councillors a bit of stick. I make no bones about this, I stand by anything I’ve said, and I have no intention of letting up. Watching how our Councillors handle themselves in Council meetings and hearing the way they debate or talk about issues in the main, frustrates me no end. We need them to show a lot more businesslike savvy, forward thinking and entrepreneurial flair in their various contributions. There’s a lot of wonderful activity happening in Orange at the present time, but unless I’m badly mistaken, little or none of it can be credited to our Councillors from having any real vision or ideas. Councillors often get their names pinned to media releases and show up at happenings, but that’s more about protocol than them having anything significant to do with what’s occurring or what the issue is.

The fact that she has never been asthmatic or suffered respiratory conditions before makes her sure that the unprecedented smoke haze that blanketed Australia’s east coast for weeks on end is the cause.

To be fair however, I’d be more than happy to be challenged or corrected if anything I’ve said above is not a fair or reasonable assessment of the present situation. I’d particularly be pleased to hear from any of our Councillors who feel my comments require correction on any front, or if they feel they can take genuine credit for something significant that’s happened or is currently happening in Orange.
