MAKE SHOW GREAT AGAIN!

Colour City should have one of the great agricultural shows in NSW with a recent half-million dollar grant a step in the right direction, supporters say. “That would be good, wouldn’t it?” Society President, Peter Naylor said of plans to make our local fair fantastic again. Plans to return this annual event — cancelled this year due to COVID-19 — to its glory days begins with the $511,087 State Government grant for upgrading the largely-empty Naylor

Pavilion with new toilets and cafeteria facilities, Mr Naylor said. Money is also likely to be applied to remove the culvert and open water-course that, in stormy weather, literally divides the Show in two for sometimes hours at a time. The work should only be the start of a long road back for Orange Show, Orange Mayor and inveterate Show-goer, Councillor Reg Kidd said enthusiastically. “When I was a kid, the Show was such a big part of your life. On Friday, you would get a new pair of shoes for the occasion and everyone would go to the Show,” he reminisced. “Why shouldn’t it be as big as Bathurst? It used to be the biggest day of the year.”

with DAVID DIXON Well the US Presidential election was far-closer than I predicted with the result still up in the air though Democrat Joe Biden recently claimed victory. Incredibly, each State (and there are 50 of them), run their own vote with no centralised and independent electoral commission over-seeing the whole process. Hence the claims of cheating and likely court challenges. The whole lot will probably all end-up in the Supreme Court. An unbelievably-shambolic way for the world’s greatest democracy to decide their leader! Green bins are very much in the spotlight at the present time with some not being emptied because of weight issues. There’s a limit on what weight they can pickup with insurance issues coming into it. The simple solution is for people to know what they can and can’t do and work within that. The current system covers all contingencies adequately. For some reason, however, the waste company has a limit of around 95kg that they can pick-up, but Council has a 75kg or thereabouts limit on their website. This begs the question, why? Also, by what process are they weighed? Presumably, there is a sensor in the hydraulic arm that lifts the bins that sets-off an alarm if over-weight. Second opening of the new DPI building in Prince St stood-out in a couple of ways from the “cold” opening a couple of two months ago. COVID-19 security was way stricter, attendees were corralled into a line before being interviewed about their current health (cough, cough) with all their details taken before entering the forecourt event. No-one was allowed to enter the building after the event, either. Also, local member, Phil Donato and Agriculture Minister, Adam Marshall, were both in attendance, in conspicuous contrast to the first event.
