with DAVID DIXON Proposal to move-out east Orange public housing tenants from their 1950s-style family homes which are to be replaced with high-density multi-level town-houses, has got many of these tenants reaching for their pitchforks and burning torches. A campaign opposing the development, including a letter-writing campaign and letterbox drops, shows the extent of feeling in the community about this proposal from on high. The level of community anger suggests that this issue is not going away quietly. See next week’s Newswatch for our special report on the controversy.

Love your live music and missed the thrill of a gig during COVID-19? Live concerts return to Orange this month with the first in a series of free performances in Robertson Park. “It’s a huge relief for everybody; music makes you feel good and we definitely need that this year,” former Flying

Petries Mitre 10 suffered a power outage and had to close early on the Saturday during the recent Home Improvement Spectacular. Unfortunately, at least one outof-town visitor was heading there and was disappointed to find them closed.

We’re going bigger and bolder from next week!

Success of Orange’s brightest new paper, Newswatch, means that we’re going bigger and bolder from next issue. With our circulation and readership up, we’re increasing to 24-pages each week of insightful; informative, positive news — with a touch of humour — for the Orange community. New sections will include bright, topical stories from

Mountain-biking on the Mount. Proponents say that it has little environmental impact and will provide an invaluable revenue-stream for environmental regeneration.

Another business owner, after being encouraged to put-up signs to attract the attention of the extra visitors we have coming to town at present, now claims “the horse has bolted! The surge is now a trickle after the borders opened.” I’m sure it was good while it lasted for many businesses, now it’s a case of digging-deep to keep the shoppers coming by other means.
