ETERNAL PROMISE LOCAL SOLVES 99-YEAR WAR GRAVES MYSTERY
“We will remember them... Lest we forget” we all intone on Anzac Day… well Sharon Jameson hasn’t forgotten! Tenacious local family historian recently solved a 99-year mystery helping find the nearest living relatives of an until-now unknown Digger from World War I buried here in 1921. Touching ceremony at Orange Cemetery recently saw a dedication for Private William Wrangham with his great, great niece Libby Raynolds laying a wreath for the occasion.

Talking POINTS
with DAVID DIXON From the variety of material one sees outside of local homes, clearly a lot of people are taking advantage of the Bulky & Scrap Metal Cleanup this month — so much so that some waste has been put out weeks before Council has asked. For those in Council Week A — Recycling area bulky waste is to go-out this Sunday, February 14 for collection between February 15–26, but many residents have had stuff out for almost two-weeks! It’s still a few weeks away before the JobKeeper payments cease, but businesses who have been relying-on these payments are starting to get nervous about what will happen when the support payments stop. There’s no doubt that the impact will be significant for some business owners. Recent survey by business group Sensis, found that 90 per cent of businesses, even those who are no longer using it, say it will impact their business in a negative fashion. The next few weeks, as they say, is where the rubber really hits the road on our near 12-month business lockdown! Controversial columnist Jeanine Bird certainly got the keyboards tapping following Newswatch Publisher Bob Holland’s offer for comments on her weekly column, Birds-Eye View. More than a dozen letters were received for publication with about the same number coming-in anonymously. Not to pour more fuel on this particular fire, but we’re planning on having an in-depth interview with Jeanine in a coming-edition, don’t miss it!
