GARAGE SALE TIPS • Check with your local government to see if there

are any restrictions regarding garage sales and promotional signage in your area. • Start accumulating items you want to sell and put them in a special place. If you don't have to retrieve them before the sale it’s safe to assume you don’t need them. • Advertise online using Craigslist, twitter, on your Facebook page, gsalr.com, or nextdoor.com. • Put up flyers on the bulletin boards in your area (grocery stores, community center, etc.). • Take time to make clear, concise signs that can be easily read from far away. Double check your signs by driving past them to make sure they are visible from the road. • Add balloons, pinwheels, or streamers to your signs to catch attention. • Invite your neighbors to join your garage sale, the more things you have to sell, the more people will stop by! • Decide what to do if it rains on the day of your sale. • Keep small bills on hand to easily make change for your customers paying cash. • Have grocery bags available for sold items. • Wash and press clothes, make sure all items are clean and functional. • Make sure adequate parking is available to handle several cars parked near your home at one time. • Display more interesting items nearer to the curb to draw in customers. • Make sure each item has a clearly marked price. • Offer a “free” box. This can be put on the sidewalk to attract customers. • Display like items together. Have areas for each category of things you plan to sell. • Have an extension cord and batteries available to show items work.
